Rebelde Way 1×034: A River in Egypt

Previously on Rebelde Way: Guido spent all of his time trying to figure out who Joaquin’s mysterious other girlfriend is, even though he found out it was Marizza like three episodes ago. Marizza almost had sex with Joaquin in the laundry room (the laundy room!) but was cockblocked by Nacho, who proved that he is occasionally good for something. Manuel and Vico went on a date. And the not-ethics teacher got fired! That job has a higher turnover rate than Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Opening monologue: It hurts to open your eyes, but it’s worth it to see the truth. Wait, haven’t we done this already?

Sonia is just walking off after her show, and checks with Pepa to make sure Marizza is still locked in Sonia’s dressing room. And speaking of people hanging around Sonia’s dressing room, Papa C is also here! Pepa squeals that he’s not that bad a guy at all — he’s polite and handsome, such a gentleman! And he wants to take Sonia out to eat! Sonia shuts that down and storms past him. Papa C is crushed. In fairness though, Pepa literally just proved why no one should trust her taste in men.

Marcos’s house. His mom is crying over one of his brother’s old toys or something, as one does on a Friday night. He hesitantly brings up their childhood, and his mom’s like, “Yeah, your brother was always way better than you at everything. What good times.” Awkward.

Sonia takes Marizza back to school, and they fight some more about whether or not Marizza really wants to sleep with Joaquin. Marizza insists that she totally does, Joaquin and his headband are hella sexy, and she’s fifteen years old and can do whatever the hell she wants! Sonia says she’s disappointed in Marizza, and Marizza snaps that she’s been disappointed by Sonia for 14 years. Yikes! Sonia storms off and Lujan comes up to tell Marizza about Joaquin’s cheating ways. I’m glad they wised up and realized Marizza was probably not going to believe Pablo. Nevertheless, he pops up right after Lujan tells Marizza the truth and is like, “Marizza! Did Lujan tell you that Joaquin is a cheating cheater and you should totally go out with me instead?” Not in so many words. Marizza is pissed and trips him down the stairs.

The next day — Saturday, I guess? — Guido is still trying to stalk Mia. Feli tells him that she’s gone out with Joaquin, and Guido runs off to stop them. Why doesn’t Guido tell Feli? He’s not nearly as smart as Pablo, but I guess we already knew that. Also, I mentioned it earlier, but I completely forgot that Guido already knew — or it was implied that he knew — that Joaquin was dating Marizza on the side! He overheard her agreeing to sex it up in the laundry room! I know Manuel gets amnesia in the second season, but has anyone thought to check Guido for that too? Marizza rolls in and threatens Feli to give up where Mia and Joaquin went. Feli says they went to the river, and Marizza runs off after them too.

Meanwhile, Pablo wakes up to Papa B hovering over his bed, ready to get his emotional manipulation on. He’s here to ask Pablo to help him manipulate Mama B into not divorcing him. Again. Pablo’s like, “Aw hell no”, but Papa B’s like, “But I’m bribing you this time!” Indeed, outside is a shiny new motorcycle. All the boys start drooling over it, although Pablo is not pleased that his dad is trying to buy him.

Nico meets up with Tatiana, and she brings him breakfast. See? She’s already doing unpaid labor for him, just like a real wife! She tells him that she wants to meet his friends, and starts babbling about how they can just pick up after three years because their love is real. They broke up when they were twelve! I’m never going to stop bringing that up! Nico tells her that he’s met other girls, and she gets all offended: “You met someone that interests you more than me?” Nico’s like, “YIKES” but then Tatiana’s dad comes up and saves him from actually having to confront her issues. They leave, and Tatiana digs through Nico’s backpack. She pulls out a book — I think his address book? Because he just carries that around? — and kisses it. “I’ll surprise you, my love!” she says. Yikes. She texts everyone in class, inviting them for a free night at “Nico’s club.” Back at school, Guido gets the text and he, Tomás, and Pablo are all shocked that Nico “Only Slightly Less Nerdy than Marcos” Provenza has a nightclub. But they decide to go because they’re all twitterpated at the idea of going to a club with Lulu. Why would a teacher be going to a student party? I mean, besides the fact that Lulu’s completely incompetent and has no boundaries, like all the teachers at this school.

Marizza gets a ride from some rando to the river — seriously, who the hell drove her here? — and sees Joaquin kissing Mia. Then we bizarrely cut to a few minutes of Joaquin wakeboarding, like anyone cares about that. When we cut back, Marizza has apparently already told Mia what’s going on, and Mia doesn’t believe her. She snipes that Marizza’s just jealous that Joaquin wants Mia instead of her. Mia! Why you gotta do me like this! Marizza tells her that everyone at school is laughing at her, which gets Mia’s attention. Oh, Mia. She huffs that she’ll believe it if Marizza proves it to her. It just occurred to me, shouldn’t Guido be here too? Maybe he forgot what he was doing and went back to the school.

Back at the club, Tatiana’s dad drops the bomb on Nico that Papa Provenza lost his job. That’s why they’re letting Nico work at — and eventually take over? — the club. And that’s why they’re marrying Nico off to Tatiana? Is it the 1900s and he’ll get her dowry? I don’t know.

Mama Aguilar wakes up and sees that Ignacio’s toys are gone. She has a meltdown, and Marcos tells her that he put them away for her own good. She shrieks at him that staring at his dead brother’s toys was the one joy she had in her life because he was the best son ever and she knew all of his secrets. Which is a convenient segue for Marcos to be like, “Yeah, but you didn’t know he was like on mad drugs.” Mama Aguilar flips out and starts yelling about how Marcos killed him and now he’s trying to ruin his memory because he’s jealous that Ignacio was better than him. Marcos cries.

Vico and Manuel come back to school, and Manuel remembers that he left his jacket at Vico’s house. Feli overhears this and cries.

Marizza rolls up to Joaquin and apologizes for standing him up. Joaquin’s finally given up on trying to get into her pants and tells her to get lost. Gasp! Marizza’s plan might not work! Just kidding, she flashes him like half an inch of her bra and he’s like “Nvm” and starts trying to maul her. Mia sees this and cries.

(“Look! Your boat’s on fire!” Marizza says, then runs away from his groping. HEE!)

Mama Provenza stops by to see Nico. He yells at her to tell him the truth about his dad, and she tells him that Papa Provenza screwed up at work (didn’t he work for Papa B?), and the stress gave him a heart attack. Wait, so was the Society not fucking with Nico when he got that call about his dad? Nico starts yelling at his mom for keeping the truth from him, but then Tatiana rocks up and Mama Provenza’s like, “Oh look! A distraction!” and starts nattering on about baking with her.

Mia and Marizza. Mia cries that she just wants to go to her dad’s apartment in New York and curl up with all of her beauty products. Hee. Marizza tells her to stop feeling sorry for herself so they can carry out their revenge. Oh, good. We’ve gone like three episodes without someone mentioning revenge, I was getting worried. Mia rolls up to Joaquin and is like, “That guy over there bet $500 that you won’t do some dangerous shit on the wakeboard.”

vlcsnap-2016-04-29-17h11m59s25

Joaquin’s like, “Well, if THAT GUY says so, of course I fucking will!” Even his friends are like, “That guy literally just showed up two seconds ago, who even is that,” but Joaquin’s all invested in proving his dick is bigger or whatever. He lets the guy drive the boat, and as they speed around the river, the dude takes off his sunglasses and reveals that it’s Marizza! You know, for a second I thought it might be Guido, but I guess he really did just forget that he was going to go bust Joaquin. Anyway, she drives like crazy and Joaquin wipes out. That’s the extent of their revenge? She embarrassed him in front of like three people.

Vico lies to Feli about going out with Manuel again. Feli calls her house and tells one of her brothers that a boy left his jacket in Vico’s room. Oh, Feli.

Papa Aguilar comes home, and Marcos cries that he’s going back to school because Mama Aguilar got all abusive on him. Papa Aguilar blames it on Marcos for badmouthing Ignacio in front of her. He tells him that of course Ignacio wasn’t on drugs; he was super popular so naturally people would make up rumors about him. He tells Marcos he’ll go with him back to school, and Marcos is appeased by one of his parents being vaguely affectionate. This is just sad, man.

Pablo emos around his room for a while, then starts punching things and jumping on the bed and air guitaring. Eventually, he sends Papa B’s motorcycle back.

Marizza cheerfully tells Mia that their revenge worked, and Joaquin totally got injured when he crashed into the riverbank. Mia asks if revenge really makes her feel better and Marizza’s like, “Not rly, but making Joaquin look like a fool was fun.” Mia concurs, and says she’ll drive Marizza back to school. They shake hands. Aw!

Tomás and Guido come back to find Pablo wiped out from all that righteous air-guitaring. They drag him off to the club, because “the girls” are waiting. What girls? Eh, probably Fernanda and Random Amanda, because they’re too insignificant to have plotlines besides hanging around Pablo.

Luna and Lujan fight about whether or not they should go to the club. Lujan thinks Luna should go and kick Nico’s ass for lying about Tatiana; Sandra doesn’t concur exactly but does want to go and spy on him. Heh. Eventually Luna says she’ll go just so that the two of them won’t, and Sandra tells her that she has to face the truth about Nico, whatever it is. Dun dun dun! Sandra also tries to convince Lujan to go and back Luna up, but Lujan is in trouble with her tutor for going to a club, as you’ll recall, and shuts that idea down.

Everyone leaves for the club. Feli hella unsubtly needles Manuel about going out without his jacket (what, does he only have one?), while I guess Lujan is coming after all, because she’s dragging Luna down the stairs. Mia and Marizza show up and are both too emo to go. Pablo cutely tells Mia not to be sad over Joaquin, and convinces her to come along with them.

vlcsnap-2016-04-29-17h12m49s18

Vico’s brother (“Agusto”) shows up and drags her off to yell at her for having a ~boy~ in the house. Mia & co. are all like, “Yeesh, what a dick,” but Feli’s like, “Chop chop, let’s get going before you guys can think about this situation any deeper!”

The club. It looks completely different from the club when Nico was there, not to mention Nico and Tatiana are nowhere in sight. I’m so confused. Even more confusing, Pablo tries to pay for everyone’s drinks and his card is declined because Papa B can’t handle rejection. I thought it was a free party for Nico’s friends? Whatever. They try to pool their money and come up with about $30 between all ten of them. Heh. “It could be worse,” Luna says. “It totally could,” Lujan agrees, because Nico and Tatiana have shown up. Together! Luna is sadface.

    – When I watched this episode, I remember thinking: “I wish the bully at my school was that generous”.

I think the next episodes also have some random happenings in which Nico and Manu suddenly get along with Pablo.

Anyway, I love episodes where one character joins forces with another character that’s not part of their group of friends (or room, I guess) or those episode where the whole class stands up for something! So I guess this episode was a first time for Mia and Marizza!

Haha ikr? Pablo’s not very good at being intimidating.

I love those episodes too! I like how all the kids are slowly getting closer to each other.
