Rebelde Way 1×033: Since When Did These People Like Each Other?

Previously on Rebelde Way: Nobody had sex, but they sure did talk about it a lot.Luna told Nico that Joaquin is dating Marizza, and Nico told her that Joaquin is dating Mia, and it finally occurred to them that he’s dating both. Manuel started to put the mack on Vico, for some bizarre reason that I have yet to understand. Marcos confessed to Marizza that he was a murderer, right in the middle of gym class.

Opening monologue: Everyone wants to fit in, but fitting in isn’t always good for us.

We pick up where we left off, with Guido revealing to Mia that Joaquin is seeing another girl on the side. Of course, he fucks it right up by trying to hit on her in the same breath, and she’s like, “Aw, it’s cute that you’re jealous! But I don’t believe you, bye.” Well gosh, who could have seen that coming? Dammit, Guido, it might’ve worked if you were able to keep it in your pants for five seconds.

You will recall that Marcos told Marizza that he shot a man just to watch him die. Just kidding, but he did say that he’s a killer. Marizza rightly is like, “Dude, you can’t just drop that on me in the middle of gym class.” He cries to her that he killed his brother. We go into a flashback of Marcos, his brother (“Ignacio”), and some other guy riding horses together. Weirdly, Marcos of the past apparently didn’t need glasses. Marcos voiceovers how his brother wanted them to do some dumbass jumping shit, and Marcos didn’t tell him no. His brother whacked into a tree, fell off his horse, and died. It’s not supposed to be funny, but it kind of is:

So…basically it wasn’t Marcos’s fault at all; he was just being dramatic so we could end on a cliffhanger. Okay. Marizza tells him it was an accident, but Marcos cries that his mom has never forgiven him, and his dad travels a lot and ignores him. He asks Marizza not to tell anyone, and she agrees. Not unreasonable, but I bet Lujan won’t like that at all.

Pablo and Tomas head off to a club together, leaving Guido alone in the room. Joaquin comes in to grab some condoms, dressed only in his towel. I feel like this is excessive on his part. Like, it’s just Guido, Joaquin. Guido tries to find out who Joaquin’s sexing up tonight, but Joaquin is onto his Boy Detective ways, and won’t tell him.

Mia’s room. Vico asks what she’s going to do now that Papa C has officially forbidden her to go out with Joaquin. Mia’s like, “Lie to him, duh” and calls Papa C to tell him that she’s spending the weekend with Feli. Vico and Feli cackle, even though I thought Feli knows Joaquin is cheating on Mia and doesn’t want her hanging out with him? Whatever.

In the cafeteria, Vico rolls up and asks Manuel out over the weekend. They should go to the movies! Manuel is more amenable to this idea than Joaquin is. I continue to be confused by this entire relationship.

Marizza asks Joaquin if the other guy in Marcos’s flashback was Joaquin’s brother. Joaquin’s like, “This conversation is not about me and/or having sex with me, so not interested.” Marizza tells him that she cares about Marcos because he’s her friend. Joaquin is confused by this concept. Nevertheless, he tells Marizza that it wasn’t Marcos’s fault; according to the autopsy, Marcos’s brother (and Joaquin’s) was on hella drugs at the time, and his death was officially ruled as being from horseback riding under the influence. Marcos’s parents should know this; his dad was at the autopsy. HMMM.

Lounge. Marcos comes in and Pablo and Tomás start needling him, I guess just to be dicks. Marizza comes to Marcos’s defense and Tomás is like, “Yeah, they’re definitely banging.” Pablo fumes. Then Mama B shows up. Cliffhanger! Wait, really? What more dramatic news could she possibly deliver? She tells Pablo that Papa B is trying to hold off the divorce until his campaign is over, but Mama B doesn’t want to waste any more time with him. “For the first time, I’m proud of you,” Pablo tells her. What? Jesus Christ, Pablo, she carried you for nine months and pushed your douchey, drunken carcass out of her vagina. I hope this isn’t the first time you’ve been proud of her. Anyway, Mama B says that she wants Pablo to stay with Papa B, because Papa B is going to hella fuck her life up, and she wants Pablo to stay out of that. Pablo’s like, “He literally abuses me, where have you been?”

Guido catches Joaquin and Pilar talking and being mildly flirty. Pilar must be the other girl!

Marizza drags Marcos into the chem room and tells him that he needs to stop beating himself up over his brother: “It wasn’t your fault, he was like super high!” This cavalier discussion of his brother’s death sends Marcos into another asthma attack. Is this a good time for a musical interlude? It totally is.

At least it’s not “Inmortal.”

Anyway, after we’ve listened to “Bonita de más” for the 500th time, the show cuts back to Nico and Luna. Before they leave for the weekend, Nico tells her to tell Marizza and Mia about Joaquin. Luna’s like, “But I need to them to validate me!” and Nico’s like, “No worries, I can do that instead!” They PDA a little until Dunoff shows up to cockblock Nico.

Back in the chem room, Marcos wails that his brother couldn’t possibly have been on drugs. Everyone loved him, and he was better than Marcos at everything! Marizza points out that all that pressure is probably what drove him into the arms of his drug dealer. Marcos still doesn’t understand why his mom blames him, then, and Marizza suggests that Marcos’s dad kept the truth from her. Marcos does not love the idea of confronting his mom about this, but Marizza browbeats him into it. Talking to his mom will cure his asthma! Or — and I’m just throwing this out here — Marcos could like, go to therapy. Just a thought.

Over at Sonia’s theater, Sonia frets to Pepa that Marizza’s going to do the deed with Joaquin. She must find a way to stop her! Nacho’s like, “Ooh, do you need someone to meddle and fuck shit up?” Pepa sensibly is like, “This kid is eight years old,” and Sonia’s like, “Is that supposed to be a problem?” Then some flowers come for Sonia, from Papa C. There’s a little note thanking her for being there for Mia. Sonia flips out that he’s playing a joke on her, and makes Pepa send the flowers back. O, the miscommunication.

Guido rocks up looking for Mia, and Feli chases him off. Guido ends up spilling to Pablo: the other girl is Pilar! Pablo is intrigued by this information and runs off to go wreak havoc. He finds Pilar and snarks about how she’s the one wearing the horns now, but Pilar just laughs at him: she and Joaquin are just fake-hanging out, they’re not dating. I mean, Guido basically just saw them laughing together, it’s his own dumbass fault for somehow thinking that was flirting. I guess for Guido that’s close enough, but whatever.

Nico’s parents take him to a restaurant to meet up with Tatiana and her family. They all squeal about how they have a surprise for him and how happy they are that he’s joining the family. They’ve always wanted Nico and Tatiana to get together, and now the bar will stay in the family after Tatiana’s dad retires, and they already think of Nico like a son! “What’s the surprise?” Nico derps.

Marizza runs up to drag Lujan over to the chem room to make up with Marcos. It occurs to me that despite acting like she’s too cool for school, Marizza is like the supreme meddler in everyone else’s business. Also, she needs Lujan to deal with Marcos’s emotional problems for a while, because she has a date to lose her virginity to Joaquin. Don’t do it, Marizza! There’s a sad music montage of her looking for something to wear. Joaquin texts her like, “Eyyy, let’s meet up in the laundry room.” Marizza is perturbed: does she really want to have sex in the laundry room? I mean, that’s where everyone else in this school does it, but I can’t fault her for having higher standards.

vlcsnap-2016-04-26-18h07m13s153

It’s pretty genuinely touching, I won’t lie.

She eventually makes up her mind to go, but then Nacho shows up with a black eye. He wails that Sonia hit him, and he’s afraid to go back without Marizza. Marizza’s like, “WHAT DO.”

Pablo finds Guido in the lounge, where Luna’s also reading. Pablo snaps that Pilar isn’t the other girl, and he totally embarrassed himself by accusing her. I’m so confused when all these kids got so concerned over what Pilar thinks. Anyway, Guido’s all set to browbeat Pilar into admitting it, but Luna runs over and tells them that Pilar was telling the truth. You will recall that she was all like, “It’s the secretest secret to ever secret! I’m only telling you because you’re my boyfriend!” to Nico, but the second Guido and Pablo ask, she’s like, “Oh yeah, it’s totally Marizza. That’s what’s up.” Guido and Pablo split up to search for clues: Guido will tell Mia, and Pablo will tell Marizza. Wow, it’s like they both picked the one who’s least likely to believe them! I mean, I don’t think either of them would believe Guido, but Mia might listen to Pablo.

Pablo finds Lujan in Marizza’s room, and tells her that he has to talk to Marizza about Joaquin. “Aw, are you jealous?” Lujan asks. Heh. Pablo snaps that Luna told him that Joaquin is also seeing Marizza. Lujan completely loses her shit:

vlcsnap-2016-04-26-18h07m44s228

It’s pretty genuinely funny, actually. Anyway, Lujan wails that it’s too late; Marizza’s already gone to the laundry room. And once you’ve gone into the laundry room, your fate is sealed! She’s all set to run off and find her, but for some reason Pablo says he’ll do it. I’m so sure Marizza would believe Pablo over Lujan. Pablo pounds on the door of the laundry room demanding to be let in. We see Joaquin inside, and oh my God, he’s put the headband back on:

vlcsnap-2016-04-26-18h07m59s117

Possibly the most compelling argument against sleeping with Joaquin.

Joaquin won’t open the door, so Pablo comes crashing through the laundry chute. Heh. He’s like, “Hold up, everyone in this room has their clothes on, and also Marizza is not here.” Joaquin admits she didn’t show up, and needles Pablo about his commitment to Marizza Motion. Pablo’s too relieved that his future girlfriend didn’t give it up to Joaquin and his headband to argue with him.

Nacho successfully lures Marizza to Sonia’s theater, where he reveals that his bruise was just makeup. Marizza tries to storm back to school, but Sonia and Pepa have already locked her in Sonia’s dressing room. Marizza flips out and starts tearing the dressing room apart. Even Nacho’s like, “Whoa, this is some immature shit.”

Feli sees Manuel and Vico leave together and cries in a corner. This is actually pretty rough on her, I think — I mean, Vico’s one of the reasons Feli had her breakdown in the first place, and now Manuel’s going out with her like less than ten episodes after he and Feli broke up? Way harsh.

Papa C and Peter return to his office, and Peter needles Papa C a little about how he should spend time with Mia over the weekend, instead of working. Papa C: “MIA CALLED?” Well, no, Mia didn’t. Actually, now that you mention it, nobody called! No one at all! Except the florist, to say that the bouquet was returned and Sonia said it was a massive presumption on Papa C’s part. “That woman is a problem,” Peter says. “No, Peter,” Papa C emos, “I was presumptuous.”

Mia comes back, and Guido tries to talk to her again. Feli chases him off: “She went out with her Daddy,” she says, in a pretty good impression of Mia. Feli’s quite funny in this scene, actually:

vlcsnap-2016-04-26-18h08m26s121

“Qué difícil es ser yo!”

Anyway, she tells Mia that Vico and Manuel went out, and Vico lied about it. Mia’s all appalled, and says that their leaving together must have just been a coincidence. Vico can do better than that! Except across town, Vico is totally not doing better than that. Manuel frets that he has no way of getting back to school: it’s late and the doors are locked, and he can’t call Nico because he’s off with his family. See, I can’t tell if Manuel is being genuine or if he’s just trying to get into Vico’s pants, because she immediately offers to take him back to her place. She tells him that she’s never felt like this about a guy before, and they make out. I still don’t understand how this is happening.
