Previously on Rebelde Way: Erreway has sold out the Gran Rex yet again, and everyone is losing their minds like they haven’t been to eighty million Erreway concerts at this point. And Papa B has figured out that Pablo is in the band, again for the millionth time!
Papa B walks in and catches Pablo in the dressing room, but two seconds after that cliffhanger, Marizza comes in and saves Pablo. They run out and lock Papa B in the dressing room, and that’s the end of that whole drama. Papa B should’ve known that no power on earth can stop an Erreway concert — not corrupt government officials, not inefficient school security, not even Erreway never releasing an album or promoting themselves at all.
Not everyone is at the Erreway concert, of course: Sol and Fernanda are out on her date with Blas. The plan was for Fernanda to leave so Sol and Blas could mack it in peace, but Fernanda’s wailing that she doesn’t want to walk back alone at night. Hee. Sol did not think this through.
Back at school, Maxi frets to Feli that his constitution is too delicate to handle being surrounded by so many plebes. Feli snipes that right now she’s actually quite sick of him and turns to storm off. Maxi’s like, “Well, can I come see you later?” and Feli’s like, “No, you’re tacky and I hate you.” It kind of sounds like Maxi has anxiety, so it’s weird that Feli chooses his one legitimate issue as the hill to die on, but whatever. Why doesn’t she just go to the concert by herself?
Lola and Laura aren’t at the Erreway concert either, because Lola is too emo to go. She wibbles to Laura that now that she knows she’s adopted, teen pop music just doesn’t do it for her anymore. This is the beginning of Lola’s mall goth phase, I can feel it. Then a girl comes in who looks and dresses just like Sol, but apparently isn’t her, because she doesn’t know who Laura is. She says there’s a phone call for her and hands the phone off. Is this just some rando they’ve hired to be the secretary for five minutes until she’s fired like everyone else who’s held a job here? Anyway, it’s Lujan on the phone. Laura’s like, “Everyone who actually cares about your situation is at the Erreway concert, but I guess I can listen to you.”
Vico tells Feli that she followed Rocco, but she lost him at some point and doesn’t know what happened. She thinks he might’ve jumped into a backyard or something to break into a house. Feli unexpectedly comes to Rocco’s defense: she’s like, “Sure, he’s weird, and he paints his nails and listens to emo music, but he’s not a thief.” I don’t really know how those things relate, but okay. They hear a strange noise and Vico’s like, “Cool, I’m just gonna go to sleep and leave you in here by yourself.” Thanks, Vico.
Feli investigates the sound and finds Lalo sleeping behind the cafeteria counter. He’s like, “I can’t do that commute anymore, it was killing me softly.” She does him a favor and shows him the cupboard under the stairs where kids to go to hide/make out. Apparently Feli’s been using it for a while now. Didn’t Lalo catch her in here a while ago? Whatever. Anyway, he invites Feli to hang out with him and tell him about her hopes and dreams. Feli’s a little confused by this shift in his personality, considering he was trying to strangle her like two hours ago. Feli doesn’t want to admit to him that she wants to be a model, so she asks about Lalo’s dreams. He tells her that he goes to night school because he wants to be more than a cafeteria boy, and Feli feels shallow in comparison. Yeah! Have him physically assault her and then make her feel like a bad person afterwards! I hate this.
Erreway finishes singing “Tiempo” and they get lowered onto the stage on a platform. No word on where they got the budget for these effects, the stage designer, or when they rehearsed any of this. After the show, they gush over how amazing the audience was, even though this is like the eightieth time they’ve played to a sold-out, enraptured audience who worships their every move. It has to lose its novelty sometime. They’re about to run out for an encore, but then Sabrina’s like, “Yeah, so the police are outside, what’s up with that?”
They go back to the dressing room, and Papa B tells them that he called the police on his cell phone to report being trapped in a dressing room. Way to not think of that at all, Pablo and Marizza. That said, it took the police an entire two hours to get to him? People must be getting murdered left and right in the Rebelde Way universe. Anyway, Papa B tells the police that Pablo is the only one responsible for locking him up, and the police haul Pablo away. Because…locking someone in a dressing room for a couple of hours is a chargable offense? I don’t know.
Back at school, Feli and Lalo have been chatting about their dreams, I guess, and Feli moves to go to sleep. Lalo lets her go but not really, because he dramatically kisses her on the cheek and then Feli turns to make out with him. LOVE YOURSELF, FELI.
Marizza, Sonia, Martavio, and Javier all go back to Sonia’s house together. Everyone’s gushing over how awesome the show was, but Marizza’s like, “Pablo was just arrested by his dad, can we focus?” It’s bad when Marizza is the one with her priorities in order. Except not really, because Martavio and Javier move to leave, and Marizza’s all upset that Martavio’s not staying over with Sonia. Marizza, please focus.
The rest of the boys go back to school, and everyone’s like, “Wow, bummer that Pablo’s not here to celebrate.” Marcos is like, “Well, I’m sure he won’t be arrested after your next show!” and Manuel gets all emo that Erreway’s never going to play another show again on account of Pablo getting busted.
I guess Augustina went to the show with Guido anyway because she don’t love herself. Guido tries to ask her to hang out with him afterwards, but Lola brings Augustina a present from Diego as soon as they come back to school. Augustina forgets all about Guido and runs off, and Lola snarks, “Ah, Augustina’s finally found a real man, hasn’t she?” HEE.
Martavio tells Javier that he’s going to drive Javier home and then wait outside, and Javier is going to find out what happened to Pablo and then report back. Javier’s like, “Did not agree to this, but okay.” Martavio snarks that he guesses Javier isn’t as brave as Marizza makes him out to be. You’re not wrong, Martavio.
Laura tells Marcos that Lujan’s called her to tell her that she’s going to meet her mom tomorrow. She also gave Laura her phone number, but Laura refuses to give it to Marcos. Marcos is like, “Not sure what the point of this conversation is then, but good to know.”
At Casa Bustamente, Javier is all like, “I can’t believe Pablo LIED to ALL OF US about being in a teen pop band! I am BETRAYED! You were definitely right to send him to jail! Which jail is he in, exactly?” Papa B tells him that he’s being held at the precinct, not exactly in the county jail. Javier suggests that they visit him tomorrow morning, but Papa B snipes that Pablo doesn’t deserve visitors. Javier tells all this to Martavio, and Martavio’s like, “We must help for great justice!” Javier’s like, “Omg, you’re as brave as Marizza!” and Martavio gets a tear in his eye and is all, “Nobody is as brave as Marizza!” Love how, even when talking about breaking Pablo out of jail, the conversation turns into praising Marizza somehow.
Sol and Blas are spending their date with some guy who’s going on about his business deals. Where did he even come from? Did Blas invite him? I don’t know. Blas tells the guy that he works in some sort of vague business, and the guy makes a weird comment about Blas never needing to work. Blas also adds that he lives in a hotel because he doesn’t spend much time in Buenos Aires. Sol is weirded out by these lies, although I mean, I’m assuming he’s trying to cover up that he’s a school employee perving on the students.
Javier comes back in after his talk with Martavio, and Papa B’s like, “How very dare you leave the house for five minutes!” or however long that took. Javier BSes that he went out to smoke, but Papa B is suspicious. Why doesn’t he just say that he took a walk? It can’t be that weird that he left the house for like ten minutes.
Martavio goes to see Pablo. Despite the commissioner supposedly being a friend of Papa B’s, and Papa B requesting that Pablo not have visitors, the precinct just lets Martavio waltz in anyway. So that was a whole lot of suspense over nothing.
Feli has a nightmare over dating Maxi and being dragged down into hell by Maxi and her mother. Subtle. I can’t see how dating Lalo wouldn’t also be a hellish existence of condescension and assault, though.
The next morning, Papa B tells Ines that Javier’s been smoking. Ines grounds Javier, even though he’s made plans with Marizza. I’m sure she’s real cut up about that.
Over at Marizza’s house, she keeps needling Sonia about Martavio sleeping over until Sonia tells her that she and Martavio are never ever getting back together. Sonia adds that she even offered to let Martavio sleep over, and he turned it down. Marizza’s like, “Stop saying words.” Then Martavio comes in and confirms what Sonia said. Marizza is mad salty at him and refuses when he asks her to visit Pablo with him. But then we cut to them visiting Pablo together anyway? I don’t know.
Before that, though, let’s have some more of Mia and Manuel. Because I’m sure you want to see that. They’re managing to be civil with each other until Sabrina shows up. Mia and Manuel tell her that they decided like, five minutes before the show that Erreway isn’t going to perform anymore. Pablo can’t perform because Papa B won’t let him, ergo, Erreway is no more. Sabrina’s like, “What the fuck?” and snaps that they’ll just replace him. Mia and Manuel are like, “Clearly you don’t understand that Erreway can only be made up of the protagonists of this show and some terrible misfortune is going to befall any lesser character that tries to replace Pablo.” Sabrina starts going off about how much money is riding on Erreway and I think we’re meant to think that she’s being shallow, but like…she’s not wrong. Sabrina appeals to Manuel to back her up, and Mia’s all appalled that Manuel and Sabrina have been discussing Erreway behind everyone’s backs.
Sol calls Blas, telling him that she wants to talk to him. She thinks about him lying to the other guy about what his job is and she’s all bothered. So…lying about their relationship to everyone at school is fine, but him lying to a random dude about his job is suspicious? Sol has strange standards. Fernanda comes up and wants to gush to Sol about her date and how fun it is that they both have older boyfriends. Fernanda can join Sol in therapy when they graduate, I guess. Sol tells Fernanda to fuck off with her positivity.
Vico tries to ask Rocco what exactly he was up to last night, but he vagues her concerns away. Pilar rocks up after he leaves, and Vico worries to Pilar that he might have been with someone else. She’s like, “Do you think he’s the type to cheat?” and Pilar’s like, “Well, all men are cheaters deep down, so let’s start there.” Hee. I like how the boys on this show are slowly but surely driving all the girls to misandry.
Manuel tells Mia that he spoke with Sabrina and he backed Mia up, re: not replacing Pablo. He adds that they can’t perform anyway, at least not until he recovers from the operation. Mia is all twitterpated that Manuel’s going to have the surgery. They hug in the hallway and both Francisco and Sabrina see them.
Martavio and Marizza go to see Pablo and Pablo is big mad at her for no reason that I can think of. What’s his damage?
Marizza goes home and cries and yells to Sonia and Martavio that Pablo was acting like a big jerky jerk. For once, she’s totally in the right, and Martavio picks now to lecture her on not always getting what she wants. This is actually just a clunky segue into Martavio explaining, again, that he and Sonia are never ever getting back together — especially since Martavio is going to bail down to the south, where no one will ever see him again because Southern Argentina is in another dimension the way everyone on this show acts.
Fernanda tells Sol that she’s made a date with Blas’s friend — ah, he’s Blas’s cousin –and suggests that they double-date, if Sol can get a hold of Blas. Sol checks her flip phone and sees that Blas hasn’t called her back.
Mia finds Feli crying in their room over Lalo, again, some more. I have to point out that I don’t think Feli’s spent so much time crying in the fetal position as after she meets Lalo, which doesn’t bode well for their relationship. Feli cries to Mia that Lalo kissed her and made her Feel Things, and she can’t afford to feel things because she’s committed to dating Maxi until her parents force them to get married or whatever. Mia suggests that what Feli’s feeling is love — for Lalo? Don’t do Feli any favors, Mia — and she should fight for said love instead of going along with this whole Maxi business. Feli’s like, “I’m not the protagonist of this show; me and Lalo probably won’t work out as conveniently as you and Manuel did.” She’s all miserable that Lalo is introducing conflict in her life, and she’s relieved when Maxi shows up. There’s actually a pretty relatable story in here about letting yourself be miserable because choosing something risky that might make you happy is terrifying, but Maxi and Lalo are both the worst, so it’s hard to support Feli’s emotional journey here.
Martavio and Marizza cry all over each other while he explains that he has to leave the Greater Good. And by that he means that he’s basically unemployable in Buenos Aires, so he’s gotta bail. None of this would be happening if you had found a better way to meet your daughter than “stalk her in her high school for several months.” Anyway, he goes on about how he and Sonia love each other but not like that and he loves Marizza the mostest and they’ll still be a family even when he’s gone. It’s a nice speech, but like so many things on this show, it goes on for a solid forever and I don’t actually care about Martavio that much.
Papa B comes to see Pablo in prison. He tells Pablo to give up his dream of being in Erreway, because it’s over forever. Pablo’s like, “Au contraire!” and tells Papa B that he’s going to take him to juvenile court and press charges against him for abuse. F I N A L L Y. Papa B slaps Pablo and snipes that they’ll see how far he gets without Papa B, because he won’t help him anymore. That’s…not a threat? That’s what Pablo wants?
Sol tells Blas that Fernanda is on another date with his cousin and Blas flips his shit. He tells Sol that he doesn’t want his cousin to know anything about his life and Sol’s like, “So…why did you bring me on a date with him then, you dumbass?”
Pablo is released from prison, so…so much for Papa B’s threats of abandoning him, I guess. As he packs, Pablo thinks about the rest of Papa B’s speech that we didn’t get to see: Papa B told him him that he won’t pay for Pablo’s next year at Elite Way, so he’ll have to apply as a scholarship student. Whatever. Manuel did it; it can’t be that hard. Pablo’s like, “I can do anything with the power of friendship!” but Papa B told him that, without his rich dad to back him up, all his friends will abandon him.
Pablo leaves the station and he’s like, “No one’s waiting for me! I have been abandoned!” But he hasn’t, because Marizza is waiting for him! He’s all like, “Okay, you were not the person I wanted to see though.” Marizza tells him that she came to see him even though he was a jerk to her because she has to do something. And then they make out while “Dije adios” plays. Aw! I love these two idiots, I can’t help it. The fact that they’re making out somewhere that’s not their terrible boarding school adds to the romance of it all, too.
(All that said, it is disappointing that “Te soñé” is Mia and Manuel’s song because it is way better than “Dije adios” and “Dos segundos” combined. I said what I said.)
