Rebelde Way 2×131: Talking Never Works

Previously on Rebelde Way: Marizza’s been expelled from Elite Way after all! After trying to keep it a secret for about half a second, Pablo finds out anyway. Oh, and suddenly everyone wants Feli.

We pick up with Guido force-kissing Feli, while Maxi looks on in horror. “That can’t be Feli! But it is! It is Feli!” he wails to no one in particular. My God, Maxi, don’t just stand there monologuing to yourself. He storms over and Feli shoves Guido off her like, “How dare! My boyfriend is right here!” Maxi’s like, “OMG, really?” and Feli’s like, “Sure, why not.” Does she like him or not? I can never tell.

Meanwhile, Pablo’s found out from Consuelo that Marizza’s been expelled. He yells at Michi to tell him the truth, and Michi’s like, “Uhhh” but then Dunoff walks in. Michi shuffles Pablo out.

Marcos gets his promised call from Lujan, and he’s all twitterpated to hear from her. He’s like, “I’m so glad you’re doing well and everything is fine! Golly, what should we talk about? How’s the weather?” Marcos, she has been KIDNAPPED, can you FOCUS. Lujan apparently insists that she’s doing fine and doesn’t need help, to which Marcos says, “Of course I love…I mean, believe you.” Subtle! Laura is all pissy to have heard this. WHY, THOUGH. When did she and Marcos get back together? Whatever, I don’t care.

Michi drags Guido into the teachers’ lounge to yell at him for thinking he’s too good to date a fat girl. She actually gives a pretty decent speech about not being such a shallow, objectifying douchebag, and Guido is properly shamed. He apologizes to Feli . It’s actually very nice but A) I know the lessons on this show never stick anyway and B) I actually don’t give a shit about Guido at all, so his redemption means nothing to me.

Back at Marizza’s house, Sonia’s all, “OMG, I can’t believe you didn’t want to talk to Javier! He must be so sad that you sent him away!” Marizza’s like, “I was just expelled form school, can you prioritize.” Sonia’s like, “Ah yes, I can tell you’re not really in love with him because you don’t want to see him right now.” Sonia, please focus.

Then Martavio comes in with a bunch of newspapers and he’s like, “Somewhere in one of these eighty newspapers is proof that Papa B is corrupt!” Sonia and Marizza are like, “Going through all of those is way too much work.” Marizza, are you rebelde or not? I guess being ~rebelde~ doesn’t involve any legwork. Marizza would never make it in All the President’s Men. Sonia kind of understandably doesn’t want to get any deeper into this mess with Papa B, but Martavio’s like, “Stop saying words.” Sonia sighs and agrees to help. Marizza is all excited that they’re working together. They’ll definitely fall in love! That’s how group projects work in fiction!

At school, Marcos gushes to Laura that his talk with Lujan was GREAT and she’s going to meet her mom and then she’s going to call him and tell him everything! He’ll be waiting by the phone like a teenage girl in an ’80s movie. Laura accuses him of being in love with Lujan, and Marcos huffs that she’s just picking a fight with him now. Laura’s like, “Okay, let’s fight, then at least we’ll be talking about something!” Burn! Also, yeah, this is admittedly the most interesting the two of them have ever been. Laura asks if Marcos would get back together with Lujan, given the chance. Marcos is like, “Well THAT is…how very dare…IDK MAYBE!” and storms off.

Feli announces to Mia that she has a boyfriend. Mia’s like, “Aw, that’s great, you and Lalo are so cute together!” Feli tells her that she’s actually Maxi’s girlfriend, and Mia says, “Oh. That’s also…cute.” HEE. Feli insists that she’s in love with Maxi for real and Mia’s like, “Whatever.”

Meanwhile, Javier and Pablo have teamed up to stalk Marizza. Surely there is a better use of their time. Pablo lies and tells Javier that Marizza is on vacation after all, and so they’re just going to suspend the Erreway show at the Gran Rex until she gets back. You know how huge venues let their schedules be dictated by teenage bands. Then he’s like, “Oooh, Javier, you should fly down to Pinamar* to be with her!” Hee. Then Papa B rocks in and he — coincidentally? — tells Pablo that the two of them should go to Pinamar this weekend. Javier’s like, “Take me with you!” Pablo enthuses about this idea.

*I think they say that, anyway.

After Javier and Papa B leave, Pablo gushes to Tomas about what a genius he is and how he’s totally going to save Marizza. I mean, the vacation thing was well done, but dial back the ego there, Pablo.

In the cafeteria, Sol loudly gossips that there’s a HOT NEW COUPLE at Elite Way. There’s a new couple in this class every two days, I don’t know why this is news. Fernanda’s like, “Is it Pablo and Lujan?” What? Also, that would be hilarious and amazing. Anyway, Sol’s like, “No, keep up, it’s FRANCISCO AND MIA.” Across the cafeteria, Manuel’s ears perk up.

Back at Marizza’s house, Sonia and Martavio have gotten exactly nowhere by trawling through every single newspaper from the past week. Use Google, Martavio! Or Altavista, at least. But then Sonia remembers something conveniently damning about Papa B from three years ago and runs off to go find proof. Where is she going to get newspapers from three years ago from? I feel like they should at least be in a library with a microfiche.

Can you three go somewhere with an archive??

For some reason, Rocco and Vico go to her house. So she still has this house after all? Why didn’t they just have sex there? I don’t know. Well, to be fair, Vico speechifies about how she hates being this house because of all the memories of abuse. Rocco’s like, “Well, let’s make some new memories!” and then they throw some pillows on the floor for like five minutes. Vico’s like, “A few minutes of mild rebellious behavior has made me change my mind about this place completely!” Bro, what? They agree to redecorate the house so…Vico can live here again? I don’t know what the point of this is. (JK, it’s contrivance. But we’ll get there.)

Vico and Rocco make out and Rocco thanks her for helping him get over his own issues. You both need therapy so bad, I don’t know what to tell you. Vico very seriously asks Rocco if he knows who she is, and he’s like, “Duh, of course I do.” Vico’s like, “No, I mean REALLY really.” Rocco’s like, “What?” and Vico’s like, “Nevermind.” Okay, that was weird.

Martavio goes out to go…collect every newspaper from the last three years, I guess. He’s on his way to his tiny Jeep (God bless) when Pablo pops up and is like, “How’s it hanging, Martavio!” He wants to know wtf is going on, and of course Martavio caves.

All the kids product place — I mean, play — DDR some more. Manuel snipes at Mia over the game in lieu of being able to yell at her about anything else, and they argue some more, and it’s boring.

Sonia asks Marizza where she would want to go to school now, and Marizza’s all, “Stop saying words, everything’s going to be fixed and I’m going to back to EW!” Sonia’s like, “I mean, even if you do, it’s probably going to take a while, and you can’t miss this much school?” She assures Marizza that she knows Elite Way is different, because Marizza made “lifelong friends” there. Whatever. Like they’re not all going to forget each other within two months of graduation like everyone else. Doesn’t the Erreway movie, like, completely disregard the two years they spent at school?

Anyway, Sonia reassures Marizza some more that she’ll still have her Elite Way friends — “Like Javier, he’ll always be there.” Lol, Marizza better hope not.

Martavio and Pablo walk in, and Pablo’s like, “I know this expulsion was my dad’s doing!” Sonia clutches her pearls all, “OMG, do you think so?” What? Didn’t SHE think so like, five minutes ago? Anyway, Pablo says he’ll help them get dirt on Papa B.

Vico and Rocco set out for IKEA or wherever to redecorate her house, conveniently missing a phone call from Vico’s dad. Oh snap! He says things aren’t going well and if Vico doesn’t send hime more money, he’s going to come back to Buenos Aires and fuck things up. It’s almost like two teenagers paying off an abusive gambling addict was not, in fact, a long-term fix. However, through a series of coincidences, the tape gets messed up before Vico can hear it. Who could have seen this coming!

Sol tells Sabrina that she managed to get Manuel to overhear that Francisco and Mia are dating. Sabrina flips her shit in excitement, even though nothing about that actually indicates that Manuel wants to get back together with her.

Guido waits outside of Feli’s room to…apologize to her. Wait, what? Who is this person, and what has he done with Guido? He gives her a speech about how he knows he was a big ol’ jerk to her and he shouldn’t judge girls for being fat anymore. I’m actually downplaying it a bit; it’s a very nice sentiment and Guido notes that Michi is right to be upset by what a sexist judgmental jerk he’s been, even if Feli pretends not to care. He admits to being insecure with himself, and that’s why he’s such a pig. That’s nice and all but…it’s still Guido. I look forward to him forgetting this ever happened and going back to trying to pick girls up off the Internet in twenty episodes. Then, weirdly, he makes this all about Feli and Maxi, and says that he knows guys like Maxi, who think having a nice car and money makes them better than everyone — because Guido used to want to be like that himself. Used to? Guido, you were a terrible person up until like five minutes ago. Anyway, he tells Feli not to date Maxi.

Martavio and Pablo go to Pablo’s apartment to look at a box full of Papa B’s secrets. It’s convenient that they were suddenly able to find all this stuff when they needed to, even though Consuelo was whining about it two episodes ago! Naturally the box is locked, but Pablo’s like, “Cool, let’s break it.” Martavio and Consuelo start wibbling at him that he just can’t do this to his DAD, and Pablo’s like, “Have we met? He’s evil! He’s the official villain of this show, since we’re all still laboring under the delusion that Manuel isn’t a douchebag!” Consuelo frets that she’ll get in trouble if Pablo opens the box, so Pablo’s like, “Okay, you can leave” and hustles her out. Hee. Martavio tells Pablo it’ll be bad for his immortal soul if Pablo busts open Papa B’s secrets without talking to him. Martavio, Pablo’s dad beats him. He’s allowed to feel some kind of way about Papa B without you butting in on it.

Sabrina goes to see Manuel, and I notice her jeans for the first time. Ah, the early 2000s, when both men and women wore pants that were basically falling off at all times. Equality!

Sabrina tells Manuel that she asked around and God and everybody knows that Mia and Francisco are dating. She’s like, “So like, since you’re all sad and alone now, we should get back together, right?” Manuel says that he doesn’t want to get back together, and reassures that he’s okay by himself. I…I don’t think you’re the concern here, Manuel. Sabrina cries that all her machinations have come to nothing.

Mia confronts Francisco over his lying to her about his fight with Manuel. Francisco admits that they fought over Manuel’s weird-ass possessiveness of Mia. Then he turns around and says that he doesn’t want Mia hanging out with Manuel. Francisco, weren’t you just — whatever.

Pablo asks Papa B to get Marizza back into Elite Way. Papa B tries to wash his hands of it, but Pablo says that it’s his fault for publishing that story about Sonia. Papa B starts crazying that Sonia lacked RESPECT for him and his office, and he’s just protecting Pablo from Marizza’s rebelde influence!! Pablo says that he’s already broken up with Marizza, and he just wants Papa B to get her back into the school. Papa B grudgingly agrees to work on it.

Sabrina goes to see Blas. Oh, God, if I have to see another girl hook up with Blas — although at least Sabrina is of age. I’m assuming, anyway, given that she’s not in school and she’s the de facto manager of one of the biggest bands in Argentina. Then again, that was basically Nico’s role at the end of last season. Anyway, Sabrina tells Blas that Sol is having some trouble with the other girls, and he’s just so mature and thoughtful, she hopes he can help Sol work through it. Blas’s ego is flattered and he agrees. This is the most transparent ploy ever, but I guess Blas just really wants an excuse to hang out with an underage student again.

Mia sees Manuel clutching his head again and has the audacity to be concerned about it. Manuel flips his lid at her again, some more. I don’t know why she keeps bothering. Oh, jk, she also wants him to patch things up with Francisco, since she’s not dating him and so it’s stupid for Manuel to be mad. Manuel snipes that he doesn’t believe that she’s not dating Francisco, because she didn’t believe him when he asked for her forgiveness. What? Okay, one: just because he’s mad she didn’t forgive him doesn’t mean that she’s suddenly dating Francisco. That is not how facts work. Also, two: she didn’t get back together with Manuel because she couldn’t move past him cheating, not because she didn’t believe in the nebulous concept of his sincerity. Sometimes I think Patricia Maldonaldo just writes words and hopes that nobody is actually paying attention to how much sense they make in sequence.

Pablo eavesdrops on his dad’s conversation with Etchamendi and overhears them chatting about their upcoming vacation. After Papa B comes out from his office, Pablo’s like, “So…did you talk to him about reinstating Marizza at all?” and Papa B’s like, “Of course, that’s all we talked about! But no can do, sorry.” Pablo is suspicious.

Feli and Maxi go out and about. Feli has to use the bathroom and makes Maxi duck into a bar with her. He’s all offended by being amongst the plebes, and of course this also happens to be where Lalo works this second job. Buenos Aires sure is small in this show. Anyway, Feli doesn’t use the bathroom and then she and Maxi stick around to have a drink, so I don’t know what the point of that was. Maxi says that Mia and Vico aren’t happy that Feli’s dating him because they’re jealous — after all, Mia’s single and Vico’s dating that horrible emo boy. Feli’s like, “Yeah, I don’t think either of them want to date you.” Hee. Maxi overhears someone say Lalo’s name and he starts wailing that Lalo must be here to steal from them, and here they are without bodyguards or pepper spray! Feli’s like, “No, he literally just works here because he’s poor.” Maxi asks the bartender if Lalo does in fact work here, and the bartender…says no? And Lalo seems pleased about this when he finds out? I don’t know.

Manuel asks Michi to send his test results to his mom in Mexico. Mia overhears this and immediately wants to meddle, so she asks Michi to show her the results. Michi’s like, “Fuck HIPAA!” and forks them over. Mia gasps that Manuel’s results look perfectly fine — but then why did the doctor want to see him so bad? Maybe, just maybe, Manuel has zero medical conditions and is just an asshole.

Pablo emos to Martavio that talking to Papa B didn’t help anything. “Yeah, I fucked up, we probably should’ve just opened that box,” Martavio doesn’t say. Pablo wibbles on his shoulder. Then…somehow…he gets proof of Papa B evading taxes to Martavio? Because then Martavio brings it to Sonia and is like, “We have proof that Papa B is corrupt! He wants to act like a mafioso, then I’ll be more mafioso than him!” Not in that pullover, Martavio. Sonia freaks out that whistleblowing is just too involved for her.

I guess…Marizza…helped Pablo…somehow? Because they’re suddenly lying in Pablo’s apartment together, talking about how they’ll make Papa B think the apartment was trashed and the papers were stolen by thieves. I don’t know. Pablo also tells her that Papa B is planning to take him away to Pinamar, but he needs Marizza to avoid seeing Javier for a while, because it’s part of his master plan. Marizza agrees. She marvels that he’s doing all this for Martavio, and Pablo’s like, “I love him as if he were my own father!” Marizza’s like, “Why don’t you just like, divorce your own dad then?” and Pablo’s like, “Because he’s a powerful abuser who runs the city I live in and is also my only active parent?”

Maxi brings Feli back to school and she tries to get him to kiss her. They like, kind of touch their lips together and it’s weird, but no one wants to see Maxi making out, so I get the point. I’ll spare you a screencap because I’m nice.

Mia stares at a doll with a mustache and a sombrero, wondering about the mystery of Manuel’s test results. Is that doll…supposed to be Manuel? Feels kind of racist? Like does Mia just use this vaguely Mexican doll as a stand-in for her ex-boyfriend? I have so many questions. Anyway, she calls the doctor’s office to meddle some more.

Pablo and Marizza get ready to leave, and have a moment  — Marizza thanks him for helping get her back into school, and Pablo says he doesn’t want to lose her. Aw! It’s ruined, though, when Papa B storms in. They quickly try their BS burglary story, but Papa B immediately accuses them of stealing his papers. Oh my God, they’re about to get set up with a pair of cement boots.
