Rebelde Way 2×104, 105, & 106: Round and Round in Circles

Hey friends, if you haven’t noticed it on the sidebar, I finally started using this blog’s Twitter account! I’ll be using it to link to posts, which might be helpful when I’m uploading early/late or when I post something unscheduled. I throw most of the things I want to say into my recaps, so I don’t expect to post much bonus content on Twitter, but who knows!

Previously on Rebelde Way: Mia and Sol are fighting over Blas (send help) and Papa B has just found out about Erreway. Again.

The next two episodes (104 and 105) are actually just Erreway’s concert in Israel, which is kind of cool but not what we’re here for. Nobody cheats on anyone, punches anyone, or sets anything on fire during the concert footage, which is all you really need to know. Back to Elite Way!

Mia, Feli, and Vico see smoke coming from under their door. They run in to find all of Mia’s clothes dumped in a trash can and set on fire. They quickly put it out, and Mia shrieks that this was clearly Sol’s doing. She storms up to Sol in the hallway and tries to rip her hair out, and all the kids are like, “Fight! Fight!” Blas comes up and drags them both off.

Over at the skate park, Javier’s showing his mad sk8er skillz off to all his friends. He wants to do a particularly difficult trick, and his Eyebrow Friend is all, “It’s too dangerous, you mustn’t!” I find it very unrelatable how no one on this show wants Javier to break his face. Javier’s all like, “Skating is the only thing that makes me feel alive since Marizza friendzoned me!” His friend tries to convince Javier to go out with some other girls who are into him. Who are these girls? Where are they? I don’t believe they’re real. Apparently one of them has been trying to hook up with Javier for a while now. Javier, instead of being thrilled that there are actual human girls whose standards are low enough to date him, snarls at Eyebrow Friend to tell the girl that Javier “doesn’t exist.” I just — that just doesn’t sound like a realistic excuse. Anyway, he storms off to go angrily skateboard, as you do. He pulls off his routine, and everyone gathers around to suck his dick and tell him how amazing he is.

So remember how Sabrina showed up and saw Manuel macking it with another girl? Yeah, she doesn’t care, so now Sabrina and Manuel are making out. Gross. She’s like, “I can’t believe you were putting your face really close to that other girl’s!” and Manuel’s like, “Yeah, but I wasn’t actually making out with her, so it’s not cheating,” and Sabrina’s like, “True,” and forgives him. Love yourself, Sabrina! As they make out, Manuel’s conscience makes a rare appearance and says, “Tell her the truth! Don’t deceive someone you love!” (AND YET!) Manuel’s like, “I should! Lying is wrong!” and Manuel’s conscience is like, “Then why are you doing it?” and Manuel’s like, “Because I’m a terrible person!” JK, not that last part. Although — am I imagining things or were they not explicitly dating up until now? Like they were weirdly flirty and spent a lot of time together, but this is the first time I’m recalling them kissing. Whatever, I don’t care that much.

Sabrina and Manuel gush over Erreway’s new concert, but then she gets a random text that’s like, “JK, Erreway’s actually in grave danger!” It turns out that ~someone~ has found out that Erreway are a bunch of minors, and they need parental permission to continue performing. Amazing how they’re a household name and sold out arenas all over Argentina, and no one even knew they were high school students.

In the main hall, Pablo is pissed that Tomás and Pilar are back together. Back off, Pablo! Their love is real! A giant box gets delivered to them, and Tomás is like, “Aw, Pilar got me a gift!” and Pablo’s like, “Uh, maybe a tragic girl has given ME a gift, let’s not be hasty.” They open it and it’s a boar’s head. Tomás: “Pablo, it’s for you.” HEE. No, it turns out to be from Guido, who’s back from his hunting trip. Nobody asked for this, but okay. Guido gushes that hanging out with Augustina’s rich dad and having everything handed to him was AMAZING, and he wants to get back together with Augustina now.

Blas sits Mia and Sol down and asks them why they’re fighting. Mia tells him that Sol set a bunch of her stuff on fire, and Sol tells him that Mia put pee in her perfume so Sol would spray herself with it. Blas is like, “That’s bad, but I think what you did to Mia is worse because I’m trying to get into her pants.” Okay, in fairness, he adds that starting a fire in Mia’s room could’ve burned down the entire school — but making Sol spray herself with pee (I think at one point they said it was Rocco’s pee, although they kept pronouncing it differently so I don’t know for sure) is really unsanitary. Also, I think purposely spraying someone with their classmate’s bodily fluids counts as a boundary violation. But whatever; Sol realizes that Blas is still hung up on Mia (ew) and storms off. Blas takes the opportunity to sidle up to Mia and sympathize with her about how hard her life is and how much he wants to be there for her. GROSS! He’s so nasty and predatory. Fernanda watches them suspiciously through the window.

In the office, Michi is doing her receptionist work while wearing a tiara. I LOVE HER. She gets fed up with the work pretty quickly and launches into a song-and-dance routine (I love her!). She’s struggling a bit with the job, but she’s not at all pleased when Dunoff and Hilda suggest that it might not be for her. Oh, and Hilda’s also upset that people think she’s going senile. Whatever.

Francisco puts on the Amarte duele soundtrack while everyone is hanging out in the lounge, and Feli is all twitterpated that he did it for ~her. Then Pablo runs in and tells Mia that they have to call an emergency band meeting, and he asks her to go find Marizza.

Marizza is busy in the main hall, where Javier’s Eyebrow Friend has come to visit. He’s all, “Javier is up to something that you should know about, and I just can’t keep it to myself anymore!” He’s not going to tell Marizza that Javier is a lying pervy liar. I know this show too well to get my hopes up. Instead, Eyebrow Friend wants Marizza to stop Javier from doing that dangerous skateboard move in the competition. Why is this show conspiring against my desire to see Javier get injured? Marizza insists that Javier shouldn’t be in the skating competition at all, since he’s got that hole in his brain.

Okay, since clearly we are not getting to the conclusion of this “hole in the brain” plot anytime soon, I should clarify that the actual phrase they use is “valvula de la cabeza” (literally “valve in the head”). I can’t really think of an easy or succinct translation of it — “valve” is rarely used to refer to body parts in English, with the exception of aortic valves — and I have no idea if they’re trying to refer to a real medical condition or not. “Hole in the head”/”hole in the brain” is the closest thing I can think of to what they’re trying to say. Just throwing that out there since apparently I’m going to have to keep talking about it for another million years.

Anyway, Eyebrow Friend looks thrown off by the mention of Javier’s brain condition, but of course he doesn’t blow Javier’s cover and is just like, “Oh, right, that thing.” Sigh. Marizza promises to take care of it and runs off. “…bye,” Eyebrow Friend says, waving awkwardly. Heh.

We cut to the band meeting, where Mia has not gone to find Marizza, so that Marizza can have her conversation with Eyebrow Friend. Sabrina is telling them that, since Erreway are minors, they needed permission to go on tour. Everyone had permission except Pablo, and ~somehow~ the issue has only come up now. Pablo either needs to get parental permission or the record company has to pay a huge fine. The only way to avoid doing either of those things is to take Erreway off the label entirely. “Okay, so let’s stop performing and wait until we graduate school to become famous,” no one says. Marizza finally comes into the meeting and starts needling Pablo for being a cowardly custard. Pablo snaps that he’ll get parental permission. Everyone’s like, “But your dad hates music and is psychotic”, to which Pablo reminds them that he does in fact have another parent. I mean, we haven’t heard from her in ages, I don’t blame them for forgetting.

Sol rants to Fernanda about how Blas took Mia’s side, and Fernanda’s like, “Because he’s a sex offender and he’s obsessed with her,  DUH.” A scare chord goes off, except it sounds like the beginning of “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day. Emo kids ARE terrifying. Sol swears vengeance, again, some more.

Lujan is being emo in the hallway and Blas comes up to harass her again, some more. Lujan’s like, “If you hate me so much, why don’t you just quit being my tutor? Then you can leave me alone and everyone wins.” Blas snipes at her that if he stops providing for her, she’ll end up on the streets again. Lujan’s like, “Well, I’d rather be on the streets than be dependent on you!” For some reason Blas doesn’t take her up on this, even though I thought he would love to get rid of her? I don’t know. Lujan shoves Blas and he falls on his ass, then she storms off. Well, it’s not a punch, but I’ll take it.

Pablo comes running into the office and asks Michi to fax the permission slip to his mom. Michi’s like, “No can do, I’m off the clock.” Hee. Pablo’s like, “Labor laws don’t matter! I need this faxed!” Michi sends it off, and we see it print out on a fax machine somewhere as Pablo voiceovers his plea to Mama B to remember that he exists and sign off on his permission form.

After that, night falls, and Pablo goes to his room and stares at the painting of Marizza, being all emo. Yeah, so now these guys just have a huge painting of Marizza in their room? And they just gotta live there with evidence of Javier’s thirstiness staring them down all day? It’s weird. Pablo fantasizes about Marizza coming into his room and professing her undying love for him — then she actually comes in. He’s all like, “OMG, we’re on the same wavelength, our love is so real!” Aaaand then Marizza makes a beeline for Javier. Yikes. She whispers to him that he doesn’t need to be a sk8er boi to impress her; she likes him for himself. Okay, but like…why don’t you tell him that when he’s awake?

The next day, as they leave class, Marcos yells at Laura for spilling their private relationship business to Lujan. She did? When? I know Marcos blows up at Laura about this every few episodes, but I went back in my recaps to see if there was a specific recent event this might be about, and I have no idea. Let’s just chalk this up to Marcos being a douche, as usual.

Guido and Tomás try to get Pablo to go to the movies (probably to see Amarte duele for the millionth time) instead of hanging around school being a sadsack. Pablo doesn’t want to leave in case he misses a call from his mom. Guido and Tomás are like, “That’s stupid, your mom totally abandoned you and she’s never gonna call you back,” but not in those words exactly. Then Michi rocks up and tells Pablo he has a call, and Pablo bolts off to the office. It’s not from his mom, though: it’s from one his brothers, reaming him out for trying to contact Mama B. Why is his brother in England…? Oh my God, whatever. Pablo’s brother seem to exist in some kind of bizarro ether where they only materialize when it’s convenient to the plot. The brother tells Pablo to like, forget that he has a mom, and then hangs up on him. Martavio comes out of the office all, “My student in distress senses are tingling!” but Pablo just runs out on him.

Over in the lounge, Augustina is back to annoying Guido. Almost like he broke up for a reason that hanging out with her rich dad can’t fix! Guido whines that he’s hanging out with his friends, and Pilar’s like, “Not with Tomás, you’re not!”, as he’s promised to do something with her this afternoon. “Give him back one of his balls, please,” Guido says. He BSes that he has to hang out with his friends because Pablo needs emotional support, but then Pablo comes up and and he’s all, “I’m too emo to hang out!” Augustina drags Guido off to go shopping and Guido drags Francisco with them. Suffer, Francisco!

Meanwhile, Marizza is tearing all over the school, looking for Javier. Lujan’s like, “Your dedication to keeping him from injuring himself makes me think you do, in fact, have a crush on him.” Marizza bleats that she TOTALLY DOESN’T, even though falling for someone purely because they flatter her ego is a thing she does every time. Then Martavio comes up and tells Marizza that Pablo’s having a rough time and she needs to go perform emotional labor for him. Why don’t you go talk to one of your students, Martavio? Marizza says that she’s already busy stroking the ego of a different boy and runs off.

In the cafeteria, Rocco’s friend Dani is waiting for him. All the boys are sitting in a corner laughing and making gay jokes at him, which Dani is ignoring. Vico goes over to find out what he’s doing here, and Dani says that Rocco invited him to see Amarte duele together. Vico doesn’t like that at ALL and snidely remarks that when she told Rocco about the movie, she didn’t mean for him to go see it with Dani. Jesus, Vico, at least hide your contempt for him a little. Rocco comes in to meet Dani, and Vico invites herself along on their outing. Oh, Vico. It’s not at all admirable of her, but I do find it realistic that she’s insecure about her crush’s sexuality and is trying to prevent anything from happening between them (even that would be totally futile if Rocco actually was gay). It’s very teenager-ish behavior, and while I’m totally cringing, I’m…doing so with empathy, I guess.

Fernanda approaches Blas and tells him a sob story about how she has a friend who’s depressed that she can’t eat or get out of bed. O, how sad her life is! What a fragile, delicate flower she is! But oh well, if Blas can’t help, Fernanda will just go tell Martavio about it. Blas is like, “Hold up, is this an opportunity for me to perv on Mia?” Fernanda says that the depressed student is Sol.

Speaking of depressed students, Martavio goes to do his job instead of pushing it off onto Marizza. He meets Pablo out in the courtyard, where Pablo is being emo over his mom. They play basketball while Pablo rants to Martavio about how his dad hates music but needs someone to sign off to let him play in Erreway. Why nobody just forges his dad’s signature, I do not know. It’s not like that’s the least sketchy legal thing that will have happened on this show. Martavio’s all shocked that Papa B won’t let Pablo play in Erreway like, “But parents should support their children’s dreams!” Martavio, you’ve been a parent for like two months. Let’s not get up on a high horse here. Martavio tells Pablo to fight for his rights, and makes him a “deal”: if Martavio sinks a basket, then Pablo has to deal with things Martavio’s way instead of being a sadsack all the time. Martavio makes the basket, of course, and they walk off together while he speechifies about how to fix Pablo’s life.

Papa C and Sonia come to school and gush to Michi about how they’re gonna buy a house together and it’s gonna be awesome, apart from the bit where their children still don’t know about their relationship. Mia walks in and she’s like, “Who has a house together?” Michi quickly covers for them, because she is too good for everyone on this show, and BSes that Papa C was looking for a second house (a vacation house? in the same city? It’s not clear) — in fact, since Sonia’s here, why don’t they all go look at houses together! Mia is thrilled, while Sonia and Papa C glare at Michi. After Mia runs off, Michi’s like, “Don’t look at me like that, I just saved your ass.” HEE.

Marizza confronts Javier at the skate park, except he immediately falls over and she immediately falls over herself comforting him. SIGH. Javier’s all like, “I don’t care about breaking my face now that you’ve friendzoned me!” Ah, way to make your emotional shortcomings her fault and also make her feel guilty for not wanting to fuck you. I hate him. Marizza strokes his ego some more and Javier promises not to enter the skate competition. “You also have to promise not to lie to me,” Marizza says. Okay, first of all: LMAO, Javier telling the truth, what a concept. Also, Marizza tries to extract that promise from people way too often given all the lying she herself does. Whatever.

Javier tells his friends that he’s going to stop skateboarding for good. Everyone’s like, “You’re giving up the only thing you’re good at for some girl who’s going to leave you for a main character anyway? Love yourself.” I hate to agree, but seriously. Javier bleats that Marizza’s not just some girl, she’s the love of his life. He’d do anything for her, except tell her the truth about his fake brain condition!

Sonia thinks she’s gotten out of the whole Mia thing scot-free, but as they’re hanging out in the main hall, Mia gets a text from Lucas. He’s like, “Yeah, your dad is totally still dating that mystery woman who you hate, and I also know her name.” Mia’s about to text Lucas back to ask who, but then Sonia faints dead away. Did she do that on purpose? Because that would be pretty impressive. Anyway, when she comes to, Papa C and Mia hustle her home, and the mystery girlfriend is forgotten.

Martavio goes into the office and asks to use Michi’s phone. She coos that it’s obvious that he’s making a private call, so she’s just gonna take this opportunity to use the bathroom now. “You’re a genius,” Martavio deadpans. “I know,” Michi says. I love her. Martavio pretends to be a divorce lawyer and calls Mama B, because I guess the school isn’t going to notice a long-distance call charge to England on their phone bill. Who am I kidding, of course they won’t. Mama B gets on the phone, and we cut away.

Pilar is helping Tomás study, which he is not at all into. They’re kind of tense with each other and I got very nervous that my OTP was about to break up again, tbh. But then they just start making out instead of studying, God bless. They’re joined by Feli, and then by Guido and Augustina. Guido and Augustina are arguing again about how much Guido hated shopping — especially the bit where Francisco took forever to pick out a gift. Feli’s all twitterpated: “A gift for who?” “I think it was for a girl,” Augustina says. Feli’s all twitterpated that Francisco bought a gift for her. Sounds fake, but okay.

Feli runs off and frets to Mia that she’s not sure that Francisco’s gift was for her — after all, he bought a CD and a poster, does that sound like it would be for her? Mia’s like, “Who else could it be for?” I don’t know, some other girl Francisco’s going to emotionally torture?

In Marizza’s room, she’s telling Lujan and Laura about Javier giving up his only hobby for her. Lujan’s like, “Yeah, that dude wants in your pants.” Marizza’s like, “Stop saying words.” She insists that she doesn’t feel that way about Javier, no matter how badly he wants her to. Good for her. Then Mia and Feli come in, and Mia tells Marizza about Sonia passing out earlier. She tells Marizza that Sonia was taken to the ER, and Marizza freaks out. Mia and Feli leave, and Feli’s like, “Dude, Sonia is perfectly fine, why did you do that?” Mia’s like, “I have my reasons, like for example, the plot demanded it.” They go back to their room and see Francisco leaving. Feli is all aflutter that he was in there leaving something for her — but it turns out to be for Mia. Yikes.

Manuel and Pablo hang around the office and discuss their predicament. Michi announces that a fax has come for Pablo — but it’s not from his mom, it’s a denunciation from a judge. Way harsh!

Manuel’s like, “People can legally tell you to back the fuck off? My stalker ass is in trouble.”

“Everyone had permission except Pablo” now this makes no sense – – I thought Mia’s dad was also pretty unwilling to let her go on tour?

And yay for your twitter account!

If I’m remembering right, Sonia intervened on Mia’s behalf with her dad. I mean, I don’t remember any of the adults signing anything (lol), but I think that’s what happened there. If anything, Pablo’s dad is the only one that actually went to the label about it.

Why no one even considered this before sending them on a cross country tour is another question. Sabrina’s dad is a terrible manager, lmao.
