Rebelde Way 2×077: Nothing of Value Was Lost

Previously on Rebelde Way: Sonia and Papa C were having fun makeout times when Mia showed up, distressed over Manuel’s inability to get it up. Papa C went and hid, because way to be honest with your daughter, and now Sonia’s doing her best to keep Mia from looking around her apartment and noticing that her dad is here. But also she has to keep Papa C from overhearing that Mia might be sexually active! Hijinks!

Papa C tries to follow them out to the hall, but Hilda manages to intercept him and drag him off by the collar. Hijinks! (x2)

Over at the rugby field, Etchamendi is berating the Elite Way kids for coming over and making a scandal of themselves. They protest that this is the only way anyone will listen to them, but Etchamendi and some other school board guy say that the decision is made. Rocco comes through with his camera, and says he has proof of the Uruguayans playing dirty. The administrators agree to watch it. Oh my God, is this subplot finally coming to an end?

Mia frets to Sonia that Manuel’s only been trying to get into her pants forever, but now that she’s actually ready, he can’t do it. She thinks something is wrong, and Sonia’s like, “Don’t be silly! Nothing is wrong!” Sonia, something is definitely wrong. Like, Manuel cheated on Mia wrong. Anyway, she reassures Mia that he was probably just too nervous to get it up. She gives some semi-good advice about how sex isn’t a goal to chase, and it’ll happen when they’re both ready. I mean, it would be really good advice if the issue wasn’t that Manuel is a cheating cheater whose guilt is suppressing his boners.

Papa C manages to escape Hilda and rocks up to interrupt them. Mia’s like, “Okay, but what are you doing here?” and Papa C BSes that he came by to give Sonia the rugby forms for Dunoff or whatever they were on about with that. Mia gushes that this is so great; he can give them to her now and she can bring them to Dunoff! Except Papa C doesn’t have them, but that’s fine, because Marizza circumvented the whole bureaucracy thing and is down at the rugby field, protesting. Mia tells Sonia this, and Sonia wails that she has to intervene. They run off, and Papa C’s like, “What the fuck?”

Sol is trying to call Leo. Fernanada’s like, “So…you really like him, huh?” and Sol’s like, “No. Keep up.” Heh. She snaps that she just wants to show Mia and Feli that nobody steals a boy from her. LEO IS NOT THIS MUCH OF A PRIZE, YOU GUYS.

Dunoff asks Pilar where Tomás is. She blusters that she doesn’t know, and Fernanda pops up to chirp that Tomás is off protesting at the rugby field. Pilar tries to signal to Fernanda not to tell, but Fernanda’s all ready to throw them both under the bus. Dunoff yells at Pilar for lying to him, and then says that everyone involved will receive much punishment.

The adults wander off to watch Rocco’s evidence, leaving the kids alone on the field. Sure, that seems like it would end well. They immediately start fighting, until Marizza intervenes and proposes that they play for great justice — they won’t have any playbooks or evil coaches, and then they’ll see who the real rugby champion is. Why does everyone in this school suddenly care about rugby? I’m so confused.

Papa B calls Javier and Javier’s mom to Elite Way, so he can ask Javier exactly what happened the other night. Javier’s like, “Ooh, I was not expecting my lie to take me this far.” He says that it was his fault, because he wandered off and got lost when Pablo was getting ready to go out. Papa B’s like, “OMG, you’re so honest, what a saint.” Javier’s mom pipes up that the only thing she didn’t like was that he brought that Marizza girl home. Papa B agrees that he doesn’t like Marizza — tragically, neither of them say it’s because she’s ~rebelde~ — and tells Javier that she used to be Pablo’s girlfriend.

We cut back to the rugby field, where “Sk8er Boi” is playing. That’s how you know this game is real, guys! Elite Way is doing pretty well, until one of the guys knocks Marcos over. He’s pretty badly injured, and the guys carry him off the field and leave him in the care of Marizza and Lujan. Lujan subs in for him. Hell yeah!!! Kick their asses, Lujan! She scores the winning goal — because I guess Elite Way needed only one to win — and all the guys start cheering for her and carrying her around. Aw!

Rocco shows up and he’s like, “What happened?” Heh. They tell him that they won the game, and he tells them that the adults watched the video and the evil rugby coach is in trouble. Everyone’s pleased that they’ve gotten justice and restored honor to rugby or some shit. Still, nothing is settled yet, and Marizza frets that Martavio won’t be able to get them back into the tournament.

Fernanda tells Sol that she heard Dunoff refer to Tomás as Pilar’s boyfriend, ergo, Pilar and Tomás are dating. Sol chooses to be in denial about this, and calls Fernanda a liar.

Javier sneaks into Marizza’s room to sniff her underwear like a total creep. He steals her diary and is about to make his escape when Lola starts banging on the door. Augustina rocks up and tells Lola that nobody’s there, as all of the fourth years have gone to the rugby field. Lola points out that someone has to be there in order for the door to be locked. God, the safety standards at this school are so damn lax. Augustina drags her off, and Javier runs off to the bathroom to read Marizza’s diary. He finds an entry from season 1 about how she thinks she’s falling in love with Pablo, and he’s all, “UGH, how dare she like anyone else literally years before she met me!” Get over it, Javier. 2002 was a different time.

Martavio tells the kids that they’re back in the tournament, and everyone comes back to school chanting about how awesome he is. Love yourselves, guys. Dunoff and Blas come up and start yelling at them for making a scene at the rugby field and tarnishing the good name of the school. I think their refusal to fire a sex offender and also their complete lack of a curriculum is what’s tarnishing their name, but whatever. Shouldn’t Blas be happy about this? Isn’t rugby like his one non-evil hobby? Anyway, Martavio takes the fall for the whole thing.

Sol asks Tomás if it’s true that he’s dating Pilar. Since they agreed to keep it a secret, Tomás denies it, which makes Sol suspicious.

Papa B still wants to yell at Pablo for leaving Javier hanging at school, even though Javier already BSed an excuse. Pablo insists that he invited Javier along, but Papa B doesn’t believe him.

Lujan is suddenly all popular because she won the game for Elite Way, but she can’t enjoy it because she’s worried about Marcos. Damn, Lujan, don’t let a guy ruin your day like this! She makes Laura go check on him, because every time she’s expressed concern about him herself, he’s blown up at her. Lujan, maybe this is a hint to get better taste in men.

Lola comes by, and Marizza apologizes to her for insulting her and calling her life garbage or whatever she said to her the last time they talked. Lola accepts, but doesn’t mention to Marizza that someone was in her room.

Javier comes into the cafeteria and starts playing sick about how he came to visit with his mom, but he lost her, and oh, how his head hurts and how ill he feels. He’s been in this show for like three episodes and he’s already annoying the hell out of me. Pablo comes in and starts yelling at Javier for throwing him under the bus, and Marizza leaps to Javier’s defense. Javier’s all smug that he managed to get Marizza to stick up for him. UGH, HE’S THE WORST.

Mia and Manuel catch up on everything that’s been happening. Mia tells him that Papa C and Sonia have signed…something…to support the rugby team (WHO CARES), and also, her dad is acting hella weird. She asks Manuel to talk to him, and Manuel’s like, “I don’t really want to talk to your dad about his personal life, but okay.” Then they bring up his whole penile mishap, and Manuel says he feels bad for making Mia feel insecure. You know what really makes girls feel insecure, Manuel? Cheating on them. Anyway, Mia says she talked with Sonia and everything’s fine, and Manuel’s like, “Oh, good…wait, you told SONIA that I can’t get it up?” Heh.

Martavio is arguing with Blas and Dunoff about the rugby team, and Dunoff snaps that they’re enforcing Etchamendi’s ban on the rugby team — which Martavio should know about, since he and Etchamendi are such good friends and all. Then Etchamendi himself walks in, and Martavio immediately runs away. Hee. He runs into Marizza, and says that their mission to get Elite Way back into the tournament is over. Marizza’s like, “We were literally just celebrating our success at the beginning of this episode, what happened?” Martavio sits her down and tells her that he kind of told a little white lite to get the job here. Marizza’s like, “Wow, you couldn’t have worked literally anywhere else?” Not if he wanted to stalk you, Marizza!

Papa B and Ines sit Pablo and Javier down, and try to work out exactly what happened the other night. Pablo denies ditching Javier, and says that Javier told him that he was going home. Javier lies his face off about how he totally never said he was going home, and Pablo DID ditch him, so there. Pablo starts wailing that Javier is lying, and Papa B says that only a liar would be freaking out so much, ergo, Javier is the one telling the truth. Ines is like, “Why can’t we just get along and love each other, guys?” She tries to make them hug it out, and Pablo’s like, “No.” Heh. Javier says that he ought to stick around, and then he and Pablo could get to know each other and become best friends. The parents think that that’s a great idea. No, Ines! He just wants to sniff Marizza’s underwear some more!

Back in the main hall, Martavio fesses up to Marizza that he lied about being friends with Etchamendi. Marizza’s about to come up with a whacky scheme to get him out of this, but then Dunoff and Etchamendi walk in and say that they’ve found out that Etchamendi doesn’t know Martavio. Marizza comes up with a story that Martavio actually meant some OTHER Etchamendi, and Martavio’s like, “Yeah, another Etchamendi! That’s totally what I meant!” Dunoff and Etchamendi aren’t entirely believing them, but then Sonia shows up and jumps in. Etchamendi’s like, “Not a tuition-paying parent!” and backs off. Still, they’re suspicious, and they suggest that Martavio might invite his friend Etchamendi to come give a talk about art to the students. Marizza and Martavio look uncertain, like Sonia doesn’t know a million and one actors who need a gig.

Meanwhile, Marcos has gotten his bare leg out in front of God and everybody, and Laura is dabbing medication on it. Can’t they do that in his room or something? Imagine the foot smell 🙁 Laura is gushing over how Lujan scored that goal, and Marcos is like, “Yeah, she’s really something.” Laura says that Lujan and Marizza are like sisters to her, which prompts Marcos to bring up Lola. He suggests that Laura leave her alone, and maybe distance will make Lola realize that she loves her. Laura says that the last thing Lola needs is for more people to ignore her, and Marcos is like, “Why, do you guys have bad parents?” Marcos, everyone in this school has bad parents. Keep up. Laura hems and haws because she can’t tell them that Lola’s adopted and her whole life is a lie.

Then Francisco rocks up and he gets really salty and jealous that Laura is fixing up Marcos’s knee. Francisco, were you not at the game? Did you not see Marcos get tackled? Whatever. Francisco tries to kiss Laura, but Marcos makes him back off. THANK YOU, MARCOS. He’s a cheating douche, but at least he draws the line at sexual assault? The bar for the boys on this show is so low.

Mia tells Vico and Feli that her dad has a girlfriend, and it’s making her super emo. I am confused about this whole plot. Is she admitting to herself that Sonia and Papa C were making out or not? Whatever. Feli changes the subject to the raffle money, and asks if Mia took it. Vico’s like, “LOOK AT THAT, I GOTTA RUN.”

In the cafeteria, Marizza’s telling her problems to Pilar and Tomás, of all people. Pablo’s also there, which makes sense, and so is Belen, because I guess she needs something to do. Marizza says that they have to find another Etchamendi, and Tomás is like, “Why would Martavio lie about this in the first place?” Marizza’s like, “Not important! Asking questions could lead to me figuring out my parentage before they can drag it out for another million episodes!” Pilar offers to, uh…be sneaky and gossipy, which will help them somehow. Everyone’s like, “Great idea, Pilar! We definitely don’t hate you like we did last season!” Then Javier rocks in, and Marizza chirpily introduces him as Pablo’s brother. Javier suggests that they make up a fake article about Fake Etchamendi’s art skillz, to make him seem legit. He would know all about faking shit. Everyone is enthused about Javier’s lying skills, except for Pablo.

Marizza goes back to her room, and Lujan asks if she was messing in her closet, because several of the clothes aren’t where they were. Marizza notices that her underwear is on the chair, instead of on the floor (BECAUSE JAVIER PICKED THEM UP TO SNIFF THEM). She comes to the conclusion that Lola was messing around in here. Damn, sucks to be Lola. Everyone blames her for everything. Lola denies it, obviously, and snaps that she knocked and the door was locked. Marizza is suspicious.

Papa C’s just settled in to a nice night of drinking liquor and listening to Santana (hee!) when the doorbell rings. It’s Manuel, and he butters Papa C up about how young and happy he’s been looking. He’s in love, isn’t he? Papa C’s like, “Say WHAT?” Even the music cuts off abruptly (even though it was playing from the CD player, come on, guys). Papa C admits to it, but won’t say who it is.

Mia asks Feli who the last person she saw in the room was, and Feli says it was Sol. They both gasp that Sol must have stolen the money. What? People waltz in and out of these rooms all the time; it could’ve been anybody. Meanwhile, Vico calls her dad asking him to pay her back, but he already blew all the money gambling, to the surprise of no one.

Sol comes into the room and brags to Feli that she has a date with Leo. That’s not an accomplishment, Sol. The guy barely has two brain cells to rub together. Mia says that Leo’s not even worth arguing over. Oh, Mia, how can you be so right about most guys and yet so tragically wrong about Manuel? Mia and Feli waltz out and lock the door behind them. I swear to God, I literally have never encountered a bedroom door that locks from the outside in my life.

For some reason, Guido wants to invite Javier to hang out. Pablo’s like, “Aw, hell no,” but then Tomás comes in and interrupts them. He tells them there’s something HILARIOUS outside, so Guido and Pablo go out to look. Out in the hall, there’s a cardboard cutout of like an Abercrombie model, with Guido’s face photoshopped on top. NOOO, I can’t believe I have to have this image in my head now 🙁

IF I HAD TO SEE THIS, SO DO YOU.

There’s a leather jacket draped over the cutout. Tomás of all people points out that this is yet another attempt by Augustina to buy Guido’s love, but Guido’s just like, “Whatever, it’s working.” Both Tomás and Pablo tell him to stop accepting the presents and to break up with her. Guido’s like, “I’m not with her for her money! I’m with her because she’s easy to control!” BECAUSE THAT’S SO MUCH BETTER. Guido sucks and I hate him. Then Pilar comes up and drags Tomás off, and Pablo’s like, “Do you think something’s up with those two?” Guido doesn’t care because he’s too busy being smug over getting bribes from his naive girlfriend.

Pilar and Tomás distract Gloria, and Pilar eavesdrops on Dunoff’s meeting with Etchamendi. Dunoff and Etchamendi are cackling over getting rid of Martavio, and they talk about how to best get some evidence that will give them a reason to fire him.

Lujan and Marizza wonder who could’ve been in their room, if not Lola. Lujan thinks that it was Blas, and Marizza’s like, “Why would he be touching my underwear, though? Unless he was also touching HIMSELF.” They’re both like, “Ew, impossible!” Is it, though? Is it really? They both check, but nothing is missing. Marizza dangles a key and says that the most important thing is still here. Is that the key to her diary? Marizza, do you notice that the diary itself is still missing, though? Whatever. Then Mia and Feli come in, and they tell Marizza that Sol stole the raffle money. They decide that they’ll have to get revenge.

Then Gloria comes in and says that some guy named Leo is here for Sol. Sol, obviously, is still locked up in Mia’s room. Mia says that Feli will take care of him, and she and Marizza hustle Feli off to get her revenge.

Javier just happens to walk by Marizza’s room, and he’s like, “OMG, am I in the girls’ dorms? I didn’t even realize!” Fucking Javier. Marizza asks him to help steal the money back from Sol. They send Javier in to tell Sol that Leo is waiting for her somewhere to surprise her, and he sent Javier to take her there. Javier’s all, “Leo didn’t tell me you were so pretty,” except he does it really pervily and dude, I absolutely would not go to a second location with him. Sol, on the other hand, is won over by compliments, as she always is.

Feli goes to talk to Leo, except she doesn’t chew him out like he deserves. Instead, she tells him about Sol’s lies, and Leo’s all, “But I don’t understand why you got mad at me, I had nothing to do with it :(” Maybe because you’re a spineless fuckboy who literally went back and forth between Feli and Sol within the span of like ten minutes? Ugggh. Sadly, Feli does not say this, and instead asks him to go on a walk with her and they can work out their misunderstandings.

Marizza asks Mia why she has the key to Pablo’s apartment. Did Mia ever mention having it? I don’t know. Maybe I wasn’t listening. I do that sometimes, with this show. Mia says that she went there with Manuel, BUT NEVER MIND THAT. They go into the cafeteria, and Martavio frets that Etchamendi and Dunoff want to record the presentation by “Other Etchamendi,” so now they gotta find someone who actually knows a lot about art. Marizza’s like, “So we’ll hire someone to research and spout off a few art facts, DUH.” Martavio’s all grateful and starts kissing her cheeks. “You’re acting like my mom,” Marizza grouses. Ow. That anvil hurt a little.

Then Blas comes in and announces that he is TIRED of the DISRESPECT and he’s quitting. All the kids cheer. As did I, until I realized that he’s just quitting being the rugby coach and not his job in general. For a hot second I really thought he was gonna have to go work somewhere that’s at least a thousand feet away from all parks, schools, and playgrounds.

Is Pilar in Tomás’s lap? Are they hiding their relationship or not?

Papa B calls Pablo looking for Javier, and Pablo’s like, “He’s fine, he’s with me! I mean, not physically, but like…somewhere around here.” He immediately says he has to find Javier, and invites Guido along. Pilar? Marizza and Mia are like, “Yikes.” But Pablo and Guido are intercepted by Lola and Augustina, who want to go out on a double date. Guido tries to blow Augustina off, but she’s invited her dad to meet him. Guido’s like, “Your dad? Your really rich dad whose money you’ve been using to buy me things? Yikes.”

Meanwhile, Javier takes Sol to Pablo’s apartment. For some reason, I thought she had already been in his apartment? Like, if she ever hooked up with Pablo or Tomás or if she ever went to a party or whatever. I mean, who hasn’t been in this apartment at this point? Freaking LOLA got invited over. But whatever, I guess she’s never been here, and she’s all twitterpated that Leo has a nice place. Javier’s like, “Oh, yeah, Leo’s not coming, I’m just supposed to hold you hostage until Mia and Marizza get here.” It’s pretty creepy. Like, they don’t even know who Javier is! He could be a serial killer!

Sol falls asleep, and Javier takes the opportunity to talk really obviously on his phone about how he has EVERYONE FOOLED because he’s such a good actor and they’re all idiots. I don’t even know what Javier’s endgame is here. Become popular at Elite Way? It’s not like that’s hard; fucking Guido is popular. Anyway, then Mia and Marizza show up, and Javier has to unlock the door from the inside because I guess doors in Argentina are just weird. Sol bolts awake and says that she was just pretending to be asleep. She tries to escape, but they catch her. Sol tells Marizza and Mia that she overheard Javier on the phone, and he’s a liar. And then Marizza and Mia don’t believe her because they don’t like her, and I’m forced to suffer through Javier for another million episodes.

Oh, whoops. The episode actually ended with Sol saying that Javier is liar, but whatever, you know that’s what’s gonna happen.

Guess Lujan is the only worthy student ever in the history of that school. Not Marcos or Laura or any nerd, it’s Lujan the only one getting stuff.

The Lord of the Rings posters on Mia/Vico/Feli’s dorm door get me every time. That’s so random, who likes TLOTR in there?

And… Why Marizza is still entertaining Javier? Like, I don’t get it. She doesn’t need to find out he’s sniffing her underwear to know he’s a creep, she’s got plenty of evidence. This whole plot doesn’t make sense to me but ok.

I love that Elite Way supposedly doesn’t have any sports teams, but somehow find a way to favor the jocks, like any mid-2000s high school worth its salt.

Right? Which one of them is secretly into LOTR fandom? I need answers. (Jokes aside, one or all of them probably just had a crush on Orlando Bloom).

Marizza is SO willfully gullible and it’s so dumb because like…everyone in their class thinks Javier is weird at best, she’s like the only person who actually likes him. On the other hand, I have known a lot of people like Marizza, so I gotta grudgingly admit that it’s not entirely unrealistic. Still. It’s tiring!

The sports (and anything else) part is so funny because in all Elite Way ads thrown around they have something like “Elite Way: Arts, SPORTS, economics, smtg smtg” (if deportes really means sports and has no other meaning). I know the budget was short, but that’s a scam school lol. And it’s not only with sports, there’s no really many academic opportunities in there. So no one gets anything and the jocks get the fame.

If we go by the way the camera focus on the door and Orlando’s position, that makes a lot of sense – but they still have taken the time to put all other not-as-attractive characters on there. So I think, yes, there’s a covert nerd in that room.
