Rebelde Way 2×062: Can’t Read the Air

Marcos catches Lujan perving on him in his room, and…weirdly does not get upset about that; instead they just start yelling at each other about how LUJAN’S NEW BOYFRIEND PUNCHED MARCOS and WELL HE KIND OF DESERVED IT and also WHAT THE HELL WAS LUJAN DOING AT THE CLINIC ANYWAY. Then Manuel walks in and of course his sex-obsessed ass is all, “Whoa, Lujan, what’re you doing here? Are you guys having sex? Are you about to have sex? What base are you at? Wait, Lujan, where are you going?”

The next day, Sol snaps at Mia that she’s pissed at her for her little spa prank. Mia’s like, “Yeah, that was kind of the idea.” Sol storms out, and Vico and Mia needle Feli about going after her. Feli says she and Sol aren’t friends anymore, and Vico and Mia are like, “What great news! Let’s celebrate!”, of course totally oblivious to Feli’s misery. Oh, you guys. Mia finally picks up on Feli’s mood, and Feli proceeds to…cry over the fact that boys don’t like her. What? Mia almost convinces her that Being You Is Most Definitely Cool, but then Vico rocks up and chirps that she got asked out on a date for today — just her, Leo hasn’t called Feli. Aaand Feli’s self-esteem takes another hit.

Sonia gushes to Hilda that she and Papa C made out and watched the sunrise and they’re totes in love now and it’s amazing. Hilda’s like, “OMG, I’ve read fanfics like that!” Sonia promptly starts freaking out that she can’t keep seeing Papa C, as Marizza will never accept the relationship. So she sets about trying to avoid him, which is difficult, as he’s shown up to have breakfast together. For fuck’s sake, Sonia, date the man! Has Marizza ever brought you croissants?

Meanwhile, Francisco’s bathing in like Axe, because he’s going to see Sabrina. Manuel’s like, “Say WHAT?” because he’s overly invested in Sabrina’s dating activities. Platonically, of course.

Pablo, Guido, and Tomás go to work at the butcher shop, only to find that it’s closed. Guido and Tomás note that the order is from the mayor, and they’re like, “Pablo, just call your dad.” Pablo’s like, “My dad? Hell no.” Guido points out that he thought Pablo was all about defending Guido’s mom now, but Pablo’s like, “Uh, I don’t even love my own mom enough to defend her against my dad, sorry.”

Papa B’s at some cafe having breakfast and reading the news. His side piece is all, “You never talk to me :(” and he’s like, “Yeah, that’s kind of how I roll.” Then Pablo shows up, and despite blowing off Guido and Tomás, he confronts his dad anyway. He calls his dad out for being an abuser and challenges him to hit him in front of the whole cafe. Dang, Pablo! Papa B says that he doesn’t want Pablo working as a butcher — but he’ll lift the closure order if Pablo does something for him. Pablo’s like, “You want me to quit Erreway again, don’t you.”

Papa C goes to the school to look for Mia and Manuel. Sonia calls him and says she’s coming over to look for Marizza, so they can talk then. Papa C starts waxing on about how magical their date was, but Sonia hangs up on him. Way harsh, Sonia!

Pilar hops up to Sol all chipper, and Sol’s like, “HELLO, look at my FACE.” Wow, they really carried the whole skin-reaction plot from one episode to the next. I don’t know what it says about this show that I’m pleased by this slight attention to continuity. Pilar’s like, “Whatever, slap some concealer on it.” She’s in a good mood because her parents are letting her go out again, but Sol is upset because her parents are not quite so chill.

Marizza has to go do…something, and Lujan says she can’t go with her, because Blas punished her for being in the boys’ room. Marizza runs into Maria Jesus, who’s looking for Blas, and Marizza needles her that she doesn’t know where Blas is, but he’s probably stalking Lujan. “Why do you say that?” Maria Jesus says. Marizza’s like, “Uh, because he’s obsessed with her, and also he’s a pedophile, just so you know.” Then Blas rocks up, and doesn’t know anything about punishing Lujan. He and Maria Jesus waltz off together, and Marizza runs off to tattle to Lujan. She’s all, “Maria Jesus and Blas are dating!” Lujan says, “Wow, Maria Jesus has bad taste.” HEE! Marizza calls Lujan out for lying, and Lujan admits that she doesn’t want to see Fake Luciano. They almost made out, but Lujan’s like, “I can never love again!”

Francisco’s broke ass takes Sabrina out on a picnic in Elite Way’s courtyard. Francisco is hella thirsty and keeps fishing for compliments from her, not at all picking up on the fact that she’s not into him. The second she finds out that Manuel is at the school, she tells Francisco she’ll be right back and runs off. Francisco’s like, “No prob!” because he’s a dumbass. Sabrina finds Manuel and gets real handsy with him, and she’s like, “You didn’t come to see me at the hospital! My fragile feelings were so hurt!” and fucking Manuel throws Mia under the bus all, “My beautiful daffodil, I would have, but my girlfriend is sooooo jealous and paranoid.” Yeah, and she has a reason to be, Manuel. Sabrina’s like, “OMG, you’re having problems with Mia? Gosh, that was not my intention AT ALL.” Then Mia sees them talking together, and she tries to play it cool to show how okay she is with them hanging out. No, Mia! Do not be okay with it! Anyway, it turns out Erreway has a meeting with Sabrina’s dad tomorrow.

Feli tries to make peace with Sol, and give her cream to help her skin. Sol is pissy, but takes the cream anyway. It clears her skin up, and she chirps to Pilar that she’s not going to be friends with Feli again, but she is going to use her for goods and services. Then she’s like, “Don’t tell anyone I said that.” “I’m like a tomb,” Pilar says. Sure, if tombs talked a lot and spilled all your secrets to everyone.

Papa C and Sonia run into each other at school. Manuel sees them in the cafeteria and he’s like, “Uh, you guys okay?” Papa C offers Sonia a seat at is table: “I was sitting there,” Manuel says, and Papa C shoves him away. HEE! Papa C gushes to Sonia that their night together was magical, and Sonia says it was magical for her, too — but no, they cannot be together! There are dreams that cannot be! And then she refuses to explain why, because if she were able to just spit out the phrase “My daughter’s not ready for me to date again”, then we wouldn’t have a plot. Papa C is hurt and pissed off. Sonia has a card to give him explaining her feelings, but she’s too embarrassed to do it in public, so she sneaks it into his jacket. She tells Hilda, “Surely he’ll find it!” And then Papa C goes home and absolutely does not find it. SIGH.

Over at the butcher shop, Guido’s parents bemoan their situation. Guido is eager to point out that Pablo ran away instead of helping them, but then Pablo comes back, with the dude from Papa B’s office in tow. He says Guido’s parents can reopen their butcher shop in a different, nicer neighborhood, courtesy of Papa B. I would read that contract twice before signing it, but whatever. Guido’s parents are all happy and gush over Pablo fixing their lives.

Marizza drags Lujan to see Fake Luciano. The second they meet up, she says, “Oh look, I gotta pee! Be right back!” Oh, Marizza. Fake Luciano’s like, “Ah yes, your teacher Martin told me Marizza was wacky.” Lujan’s like, “Uh…you mean Octavio,” and Fake Luciano’s like, “No, his name is Martin.” Lujan’s like, “No, it’s definitely Octavio, but whatever.” Heh. Lujan forks over Marcos’s clothes, and quickly babbles that she’s not looking for a boyfriend, so like, it was nice seeing Fake Luciano and all, but — “Whatever, it’s fine,” Fake Luciano says, and flounces off. Lujan is emo. Marizza comes back and is like, “OMG, you’re upset because you liiiiike him!” But anyway, enough about Lujan’s boy problems. Lujan changes the subject to Martavio and his weird changing name — “Martin” knew her name when he saw her at the sad children’s home, so he has to be the same guy as “Octavio.” What is the truth? They go to the home with Fake Luciano, and ask the lady there if “Martin” has a brother, and she says no. He’s not an art teacher, either; he’s an actor. The plot thickens!

Vico and Mia are getting ready to go out — Vico on her date, Mia out with her dad and Manuel. Feli is emo that she has nowhere to go, and gets pissy when Mia and Vico try to ask her along. Vico’s like, “What’s her damage?” and Mia insists that Feli is upset, so they should try to comfort her. Not that they do, of course.

Papa C finally confronts Sonia in person about her ditching him emotionally after their date. She admits that Marizza won’t like them dating, and Papa C’s like, “That’s just her being weirdly attached to Martavio, even though he’s a stalking lying liar.” Sonia’s like, “True,” and they make out.

Martavio comes back to school, saying someone called him here. Marizza pops up and is all, “‘Twas I!” She snaps at him that she KNOWS WHO HE IS. Then she gets weirded out, because Martavio is not freaked out at all. In fact, he’s quite pleased that she knows who he is. Marizza’s like, “Uh…okay…well, I really just meant that I know you’re not an art teacher named Octavio, so WHAT NOW.” Martavio gets real weird about it real quick, he starts flipping out on her for trying to threaten him and yells at her not to mess with him. Sure, I bet when she finds out you’re her dad, she’ll be thrilled to be related to your psycho mood-swinging ass. Anyway, Marizza snaps at him that they’re going to have a little chat about this tomorrow. “I’m curious, and I’m impatient.”

Mia and Manuel stroll through the park, and Mia actually looks quite cute and not particularly early-2000s tragic. Except for her boots, which should be burned. Oh, well, we can’t have everything.

Mia is telling Manuel that she’s worried about Feli, who’s depressed over not having a boyfriend. Manuel’s like, “Uh-huh, whatever.” I swear to God, look at Mia being concerned for her friend and Manuel just blowing her off like a dick, even though Feli’s supposed to be his friend too. And we’re supposed to think Mia doesn’t deserve him. I hate everything. Manuel suggests that instead of trying to fix Feli’s life by finding a boy to validate her, Mia should bring her along to volunteer at the children’s home. Okay, that’s actually not bad advice, but I automatically hate it because it comes from Manuel. “You’re a genius!” Mia gushes. MIA, DON’T ENCOURAGE HIM. Manuel congratulates her on not ripping Sabrina’s head off, and says that she’s really becoming more mature. Mia says it’s all thanks to him. I threw up in my mouth a little.

Feli tries to hang out with Sol, and Sol yells at her. She’s not even pretending to be nice anymore. Then Leo shows up, and Sol tries to hit on him, but he says he’s here to see Feli. Sol’s like, “Say what?” She starts sucking up to him about how she didn’t mean to stand him up, and they ought to go out again, but Leo says he’s going out with Feli. Sol BSes that Feli went out and won’t be back until Monday morning — Leo, bless him, holds out a little longer than most other guys on this show, but in the end he caves and goes out with Sol. Aw, Feli, don’t feel bad. All men on this show are garbage.

Martavio shows up at Sonia’s house, and interrupts her and Papa C’s makeout session. Papa C hides, and Martavio starts crying all over Sonia that Marizza’s about to find them out and ruin his life and dude, whatever, you literally didn’t even need to get involved with this in the first place.

Mia asks Feli to help her collect money for the children’s home. Feli is hesitant but Mia flatters her into helping. Then Feli bursts into tears and cries that it felt like Mia and Vico didn’t care about her, and Mia comforts her, and oh my God we’ve seen this scene a million times before. Feli runs off, Mia digs in the pockets of Manuel’s jacket, which she’s wearing, and finds Sonia’s letter to Papa C. Ah, because remember how Manuel was sitting with Papa C before Sonia arrived? Yup, Sonia put her letter in his jacket instead. Oh snap!

Fernanda and Marcos head out to a party, and Marcos whines that he looks stupid. Your entire personality is what’s stupid, Marcos. He doesn’t want to go to the party dressed like this, and Fernanda’s like, “But you promised!” and Marcos just keeps going on that they always want to do what SHE wants to do, blah blah he’s the worst boyfriend ever blah. Fake Luciano shows up and asks after Lujan. He’s pretty clearly pissing off Marcos and it’s amazing. Then Marcos realizes that Fake Luciano is wearing his clothes, and he’s like, “What the fuck?” He tries to fight Fake Luciano, although Fernanda and Blas break it up before it can really get going. No, let them fight! Fake Luciano could snap Marcos like a twig!

Feli comes back to find Mia sitting catatonic. Ah, see, because Sonia didn’t bother to address her letter to Papa C, and she merely signed it “S”, so Mia thinks it’s a love letter to Manuel from Sabrina. Feli’s like, “‘S’ could be anyone! It could be Solange!” Wait, was Solange Knowles relevant in 2003? Mia makes Feli get Sabrina’s address (“Why me?” Feli wails), so she can beat her up. I mean, I’d rather see Manuel get his ass kicked, but Sabrina’s actively trying to steal Mia’s boyfriend, so close enough.

Lujan freaks out that she’ll get in trouble for stealing Marcos’s clothes. Fake Luciano’s like, “So tell them you didn’t do it,” and Lujan derps that she can’t just lie like that. Fake Lucian’s like, “Why the hell not?” For real. It’s high school, Lujan! Everyone lies! I knew girls who pretended to collapse from cramps in the hallway to get out of going to class! Fake Luciano lectures her that they’re from the streets, and they have to do what it takes to survive. He’s all, “Remember who you are, Simba!”

Manuel tells Marizza and Pablo that Sabrina’s dad wants to sign them, but of course, now Pablo can’t do it. He gave up the band to save the Lassens’ butcher shop. “What do you mean you can’t? WHAT DO YOU MEAN???” Marizza says, and Manuel has to hold her back. Hee. Pablo blows them off. Then Diego waltzes in, and his girlfriend Paloma follows him. She calls him “mi amor”, and Marizza’s like, “Excuse?”

Mia goes to see Sabrina, who’s pulling into her driveway. When Sabrina sees Mia, she just…leaves her car parked, half-in the street. What the hell?

Mia’s like, “Is it true you and Manuel kissed?” and Sabrina’s like, “Awkward, I wanted your boyfriend to cheat on you, but not like, you to find out about it.”

Wait,Fake Luciano wasn’t actually named Luciano? I never knew,I always called him “El Mono” (“The Monkey”). I like that they gave Lujan someone to like other than Marcos, but I don’t like Fake Luciano that much. Also,I feel bad for Francisco,he’s really slow about the whole Manuel/Sabrina thing, poor boy.

“Luciano” is the name that Marizza and Lujan invented for Lujan’s fake boyfriend, and then they found him on the street and asked him to pretend to be Luciano. I don’t think we’ve heard his real name. His ~street name~ is El Mono, but I thought that was a dumb name so I’m still calling him Fake Luciano 😛

Francisco is just not picking up on what’s going on, it is super tradge.
