Rebelde Way 2×053: She Wears Short Skirts, I Wear T-Shirts

Previously on Rebelde Way: Lujan continues to prove that she has gone completely soft in the year and half that she’s been away from the ~bad side of town. Case in point: two guys who look like they’ve just run away from the Chiquititas set come up and threaten her, and Lujan gets scared of them. Lujan! They look and dress exactly like everyone you go to school with, just with slightly more dirt on their faces!

Lujan blusters at them that she’s looking for Fake Luciano, not that she knows his name. She’s like, “He has dark hair?” and they’re like, “Yeah, that narrows it down.” They tell him that he’s left (the street? Town? I don’t know), and Lujan’s like, “Great, bye,” but they decide she’s coming with them.

Meanwhile, Blas is looking for her. He bangs into Marizza’s room with Laura, but they manage to blow him off with an excuse about Lujan being in the bathroom. Marizza’s all hype to fuck with Pablo — she has a camera, for nefarious purposes — but Laura tells her that they have a problem.

Papa C sits with Sonia and Hilda, and tells her that Martavio wants rights to Marizza. Sonia’s like, “Alright, fleeing to another country it is!” and Papa C’s like, “Or we could…try something else first?”  Then Marizza calls and asks Sonia to come to Elite Way, and Papa C insists on accompanying her. He tells her to slow down on the whole running away thing, but Sonia gets her things in order anyway.

Vico’s dad asks her to come by every day, as he’s has a new job and he can’t take care of the house alone. Vico is put off by this, but her dad says that he won’t be drinking and gambling so much now that he’s working. Poor Vico gets her hopes up and agrees to help out, as long as her dad is working and not drinking or hitting her. Oh, Vico 🙁

Francisco, Manuel, and Mia come back from the opera. Francisco gushes over Sabrina, which makes Mia all salty. Well, saltier — she’s been pissed off all night, and Manuel’s dumb ass is like, “Herp derp, what could’ve possibly upset you?” Mia calls him out for rejecting her gift, and for wearing jeans to the frickin’ opera, and Manuel’s all like, “Ugh, you’re so shallow. Unlike Sabrina! She’s so not shallow, omg, what an angel.” Mia doesn’t like that at all; I can’t say I blame her.

Blas decides to berate Laura for Lujan and now Marizza’s disappearances. I would say it’s unfair of him to yell at her for friends’ actions, but that kind of thing went down all the time at my grammar school. Of course, I went to a small and deeply corrupt Catholic school, so maybe that’s not the kind of comparison this show wants to be drawing. Laura blurts out that Marizza left with her mom, and Blas is like, “And who said she could leave?” and Laura’s like, “Her…mom?” and Blas is like, “Stop saying words. Punishment for everyone!”

The evil street kids drag Lujan off and tell her that she’s essentially their slave now. Lujan finally gets it together and starts hitting them, but there’s two of them against her. She’s screwed until Fake Luciano shows up. Oh look, it turns out he conveniently didn’t skip town after all. Also, apparently he goes by the name “Monkey” on ~the streets~, but that’s a dumbass name so I’m going to keep calling him Fake Luciano. He guesses that she came for her ID, and tells her to come with him to get it. The music ominouses weirdly in the background.

Mia whines to Vico and Feli about Manuel not dressing up for the opera. Vico loses all the points in the world by saying that Mia should be grateful Manuel’s even still with her — any other guy would have dumped her by now. Vico, Manuel not pushing his girlfriend into sex is basic decency, especially considering he spends the rest of his time mocking her interests and gushing about other girls to her.

Marizza’s called Sonia to help her look for Lujan. In the car, Sonia starts to broach the topic of Martavio, but then Marizza sees Lujan and jumps out. In whatever time they were walking together, Lujan’s gotten her ID back, and she and Fake Luciano are friends now. What was with that ominous brass then, show? Anyway, they get back to school, and Marizza asks Sonia what she was going to say. So Sonia returns to the point and tells Marizza about Martavio. Ha! Just kidding! Sonia punks out and says it was nothing. She suggests that, since Marizza hates Elite Way so much, Sonia should pull her out and they should go on the run together. I mean, travel. Marizza points out that she hasn’t really hated it at Elite Way since like, season one. She has friends, she’s dating Diego, and she thinks Elite Way is where she belongs. Sonia’s like, “Oh, okay then.”

Francisco whines to Manuel that he doesn’t think he made a good impression on Sabrina in his tux — she doesn’t care about looks! Her dad gave her money to spend on an outfit, and she donated it to the children at the hospital! She’s so selfless and noble! Manuel’s penis is very interested.

Pablo and Guido are trying to find someone to hook Ana up with, so she’ll stop using Marizza as a go-between. I mean, at least that’s what I’m guessing. “We have to find someone like me,” Guido says. Aaaand that plan’s already doomed. From his bunk bed, Rocco listens to them plot.

The next day, Feli launches into a speech about why Mia shouldn’t join the cheerleading squad. Okay, but the thing is, Mia didn’t even sound that interested when Feli brought it up, so this is all rather moot. Anyway, Feli lies that Manuel told her he didn’t want Mia joining. Whatever, fuck Manuel! Do what you want, Mia! For some reason, Mia thinks it’s really cute that Manuel is telling her what to do. “If he doesn’t want me to be a cheerleader, then I won’t do it!” she chirps. Oh, Mia. Love yourself.

Guido’s hired some guy named Mateo to seduce Sol, so she’ll break up with Tomás, and he can go back to being friends with Ana and getting her to do homework for him. This is needlessly complex. Just do your own homework, Pablo! Oh, who am I kidding? There’s one hitch, though, which is that Mateo’s not pimping himself out for free. Guido’s like, “I dunno, Pablo, you’re the mayor’s kid, you get it.” Pablo’s like, “What part of ‘cut off’ did you miss?” Speaking of! Papa B shows up, and Pablo’s like, “Uh, what’s that? Gotta go, bye!” and runs away. Papa B goes to talk to Carmen instead. Despite Pablo’s sudden improvement in literature, Papa B wonders if it’s right to give him all this extra work. After all, if Pablo ends up hating him, then he’ll be all rebelde and Papa B won’t have anyone to abuse. Logic!

Dunoff calls Marizza and Lujan to the office, as Blas reported them missing last night. Marizza, however, was taking photos when Blas barged into her room, and presents photos of him manhandling Laura as proof that Blas is overstepping his boundaries. Dunoff, to his credit, does not say, “Boundaries? At Elite Way? Never heard of ’em.” Instead, he lets the girls go and lectures Blas about he’s really gotta stop being so inappropriate with the female students. Then he calls Etchamendi.

Mia and Vico witness Sol gushing her thanks to Feli, re: keeping Mia off the cheerleading squad. They confront Feli, but she blows them off, and they consider that it has to do with them for half a second before being like, “Nahhh.”

Francisco looks through Marcos’s closet, trying to find Sabrina-suitable clothes, and Marcos loses his shit and threatens to beat him with the baseball bat. Dude, Marcos, chill out. You can buy a plaid button-up literally anywhere. Manuel comes in, and Francisco says they should go to the hospital to see Sabrina together. Manuel’s boner is like, “For sure!”

Sonia catches Papa C stalking her while she’s out jogging. He confesses that he wanted to make sure she’s safe from Martavio, and Sonia finds this cute for about 5 seconds. Then they start fighting again over what she’s going to do. Sigh.

I do like Papa C’s transition to wearing dad sweaters this season.

Vico goes to ask Dunoff if she can have the afternoon off to help her dad. While she’s in there, Etchamendi calls, and Vico eavesdrops on their conversation about Blas.

Speaking of Blas, he comes up to harass and manhandle Marizza for taking the pictures of him. What? Didn’t he just have a disciplinary meeting about this ten minutes ago? It’s like he doesn’t even listen. He grabs Marizza and gets all threateny about how she shouldn’t mess with him. Whatever, at this point he’s been punched by like half the class. Including Marcos! Anyway, Diego catches him and defends Marizza’s honor — he tells Blas that his grandpa is a judge on the Supreme Court, and he’ll make sure Blas never works again. Marizza’s all twitterpated, and Diego’s like, “LOL my grandpa’s not really a judge, I just made that up to scare him.” Marizza’s like, “OMG, flagrantly lying about everything to everyone? That’s even more of a turn-on!”

Papa B tells Pablo that he’s been a little hard on him — he gives back his phone, and implies that mayyyybe he won’t flip out on Pablo next time he catches him singing catchy pop music, and hey, does he need some money? Pablo snaps that NO, he doesn’t need money, DAD, except…you totally do, Pablo. Whatever. Papa B gets suspicious, and tells one of his henchmen to tap Pablo’s phone to figure out where Pablo’s getting money from. No! Don’t lead the mafia to Guido’s adorable parents, Pablo!

Vico catches up to Lujan and she’s like, “Remember that time in season one when we teamed up to investigate Blas? Are you ready to pick up that plotline again?” Lujan’s all in, and Vico tells her that she overheard Dunoff talking to Etchamendi: Dunoff wants to kick Blas out of the school, but Blas is connected to a very powerful company, something called “Harex Industries.” They find the company in the phone book, and start working on a plan to infiltrate it.

Fernanda overhears Marizza gushing to Laura about Diego. “Are you talking about Diego Urcola?” she asks. No, they’re talking about the other Diego in their class, who was forcibly renamed to Sebastian sometime in season 1. Keep up, Fernanda. Fernanda tells Marizza that the Urcola family is a long line of judges, lawyers, and other fancypants professional people. Marizza’s like, “So…he lied about lying? Am I into that or not?” Fernanda snarks that his family is too upper-class for Marizza, and Laura and Ana reluctantly admit that Fernanda has a point. Marizza confronts Diego, and he says that his grandpa was a judge, and now he’s retired. Oh. That was easy. Then Paloma calls, but Diego manages to BS Marizza’s suspicions away, and they make out. Then Pablo comes by and pretends to sneeze on them. HA!

Mia and Feli wonder where Manuel is; Mia stops a passing Marcos and asks. He tells her that Manuel was packing up clothes in their room and has left school by now. Then Fernanda rocks up and chirps that she’s brought sodas for herself and her boyfriend. Mia and Feli are like, “Say WHAT?” I gotta say, I love how Mia lowkey is one of the biggest Marcos/Lujan shippers in the school. She cares!

Marcos is also like, “Say what?”, actually. Nevertheless, he goes along with it, because he’s a spineless chump. After he leaves, Mia gushes that Manuel must be throwing away his clothes for her. He must want her to call her dad and buy a whole new wardrobe for him! It’s going to work out so well and Manuel won’t be mad at all!

Guido and Tomás are all, “Wait, so your dad straight-up offered you money and you said no?” and Pablo’s like, “I did it for the integrity of my music, man!” Guido’s like, “Fuck music, you’re fucking broke.” I hate when Guido makes me agree with him. Tomás sides with Pablo, because he’s loyal. And now, he has to go to the hair salon with Sol, for which Guido and Pablo roundly mock him. Hey, how do you think Tomás keeps his fluffy hairdo intact? Anyway, then Blas rocks up and says no one is going anywhere, as they have rugby practice. You know, I’m pretty sure that in real schools, practices are like, on a schedule.

Etchamendi comes to see Blas. He’s like, “Bro, I know we need you here, but you really gotta stop creeping on the underage girls.” He asks if Blas is single, and says: “It would do you good to have a girlfriend. One your own age.” HA! I love you, Etchamendi! (And what an appropriate scene, with Roy Moore losing the Senate race tonight.)

Sonia comes to see Martavio, and tells him to leave her and Marizza alone. Martavio gets all butthurt and snaps at her that Marizza deserves the truth, because she’s brave and honest, unlike CERTAIN PEOPLE, and Martavio deserves to know his daughter, because she’s HIS DAUGHTER!!! Chill the fuck out, Martavio. Sonia eventually agrees to tell Marizza the truth, but begs Martavio to wait until she’s an adult. She’s all, “Marizza’s already bugfuck crazy and hormonal now, at least wait until her frontal lobe is done developing.”

Mateo intercepts Sol on the way to the hair salon and starts hitting on her. He’s all like, “OMG, are you THE Sol Rivarola? Can I have your autograph?” He offers to give her a ride to the salon, and Sol’s dumb ass agrees to get into a car with some random stranger, just because he recognized her from a magazine. For fuck’s sake, Sol.

Papa C, God love him, agrees to stage a fight with Mia, re: Manuel’s clothes. Mia pretends not to care about fashion, while Papa C pretends to insist that Manuel dress nicer to work at his company. He’ll even buy Manuel a whole new wardrobe himself! He’s all, “I know you want Manuel to be his unfashionable self, because you’re so un-shallow, but he has to dress fashionably to work at a fashion house! Them’s the rules!” Hee. Papa C is a good dad. Manuel’s like, “Oh, well, that just makes perfect business sense! Of course I’ll dress nicer!” What, so Manuel likes the idea when it comes from a dude? He only thinks caring about appearances is shallow when Mia proposes it? Fuck off, Manuel.

Then Sabrina rocks up and hugs Manuel, chirping that it was so awesome of him to give all his clothes to the sick children. Like anyone would be grateful to receive those janky orange pants of his. I hope he burned those.

Martavio thinks over Sonia’s suggestion, to wait until Marizza’s an adult, and comes back to tell her his decision. “I’ve made a decision about telling Marizza the truth,” he says, and of course Marizza picks that moment to waltz in. “What truth?” she asks. UH-OH.
