Rebelde Way 2×032: Are We Not Men

Pablo, Guido, and Tomás have found some girls who don’t love themselves, and are about to maybe get to third tonight, but then Guido fucks it up by shrieking his head off. All the girls are like, “Okay, this is your problem” and bail on them. Hee. The camera zooms in on a pair of glasses left on the table, which at first I thought one of the girls left behind, but now I’m thinking are meant to be Marizza’s? Is this the thing they didn’t bother showing two episodes ago?

Guido, meanwhile, is having a mental breakdown, because he…couldn’t get it up. Why does this show keep trying to make me care about Guido’s penis?

Back at school, Vico congratulates Mia on getting back together with Manuel. Whatever, Vico, they’re gonna break up again in…hmm, let’s give it ten episodes. And I guess making out healed Manuel, too, because he’s conveniently not ill anymore, and Martavio’s gotten his punishment changed from suspension to writing a paper. Everything’s coming up Manuel!

Hilda is still missing. Damn, guys, I think that this point you can file a missing persons report. Dunoff, of course, is like, “Eh, maybe she’ll turn up.” Then Gloria tells him that a student’s mother is here to see him, and Dunoff groans, “Oh, no.” HEE! He knows what’s up. Of course it’s Sonia. Dunoff has tell her that she kind of can’t work here, seeing as she has no teaching experience or credentials whatsoever. Sonia finds this unfair, and I must admit she has a point. I mean, they didn’t even run a background check on Blas. I am less willing to admit that she has a point, though, when she starts flipping out and threatening Dunoff that SOON HE’LL SEE WHAT SHE’S REALLY CAPABLE OF!, because she thinks she deserves a job just because she wants it. Dunoff’s like, “Um, um, it’s my wife’s fault! She doesn’t want you working here because she’s jealous of your boobs!” or whatever. Naturally, that just leads to Sonia running off to confront Mama D, and Dunoff panics and asks Gloria to intervene. Sure, put all three women who want Dunoff’s body in a room together, that will end well. Also, be amazed that Dunoff has three women who are into him. Love yourselves, ladies!

Gloria goes to try and intercept them, but it turns out that Sonia and Mama D are getting on like a house on fire, and they shoo her away when she tries to break them up. So wacky!

Laura does Diego’s homework for him, and Marizza gives it to him, telling him that it’s in exchange for his services. Does she mean when he was helping with PILAS? Why do they think I remember anything about Diego?

Pablo, Guido, and Tomás come back to school, with Guido still crying and dragging his feet over his, er, penile incident. He blames Rocco for making him doubt his masculinity, and they almost rumble, but then they don’t.

Vico tells Mia about Feli’s appearance in the fashion show, and Mia goes off to talk to her. Mia’s not mad at all, and adds that she thinks Alex and Feli are good together. Feli’s all happy, and they hug. I’m starting to think it’s kind of Feli’s fault for constantly falling prey to Sol’s shit-stirring. I mean, Sol’s not wrong about Mia being self-centered, but most of her plans hinge on Feli keeping secrets because she’s afraid to tell Mia the truth — and then eventually it comes out, and every time Mia doesn’t get mad. Keep up, Feli! Mia says they should double-date, because she’s back together with Manuel, and Feli shrieks in excitement. Sol, Pilar, and Fernanda are spying on them, and they’re not happy at all. And Ana’s spying on them, which Fernanda notices. She tries to get up in Ana’s face, but Ana’s dead inside from working at this school, and she blows Fernanda’s threats off.

Lujan’s trying to track down Marcos’s mom, because his dad won’t let him see her. Marizza suggests that maybe Lujan should stop devoting so much time to Marcos’s problems, and live her own life as well. Lujan’s like, “But he’s dicking me around emotionally, so I have to work harder to keep his love. That’s how it works, right?” Oh, Lujan.

In class, Pablo gives Marizza her glasses that he found in his apartment, and she’s pissy about it, for some reason. Then Dunoff comes in and he’s about to tell the kids that Hilda’s disappeared and her body’s probably floating in that janky lake Pilar went to for vacation, except Hilda walks in right at that very moment. Apparently the reason she went missing for two days was to get a makeover — she’s ditched the mourning clothes, and is wearing a skirt that shows her calves. The humanity! And she’s wearing heels! Carmen is clutching her pearls somewhere, I’m sure. Dunoff’s like, “Hilda, I don’t know how to say this, but what the fuck happened to you,” and Hilda’s like, “Eh, chill out, you only live once.” All the kids are shocked and amused by Hilda’s transformation, probably because this new chill Hilda will let them get away with even more shit than before.

As if that’s not enough, all sorts of drama proceeds to go down in the classroom. First, Marizza and Lujan start calling all the hospitals in Argentina trying to find Marcos’s mom. Hilda catches them and makes Marizza come up to the front with Pablo and explain the significance of the “First Revolution.” (“Well, what made it special was that it was…revolutionary,” Pablo derps.) Then Tomás has a brainwave and realizes that Marizza is the owner of the glasses in Pablo’s apartment. When did he even see those? Why doesn’t this show have any middle ground between “obviously telegraphing every single event” and “dropping shit on the audience with no warning”? Guido gasps that Pablo and Marizza are back together. Diego looks perturbed by this. Whatever, Diego.

Gloria gives Martavio some flowers. Then she goes around bumping into him and pretending to hurt her ankle so he’ll hold her and shit. He cottons on that something’s up with her, and she complains to him about Dunoff involving her in his messy love life. Martavio offers to help keep Sonia and Mama D apart.

Back in class, Marizza and Pablo fumble their way to the end of the presentation. Hilda gives them a 2: “One point for each of you.” Hee. Class ends, and everyone files out, and Tomás and Guido take the opportunity to talk VERY LOUDLY about how MARIZZA AND PABLO ARE SECRETLY BACK TOGETHER AND SPENDING TIME TOGETHER AT HIS SEX DUNGEON. Diego intervenes to defend Marizza’s honor, for some reason. Does he like Marizza? Is that where we’re going with this? See above, re: this show just dropping shit on me without explanation.

Martavio manages to BS Mama D away from Sonia, which has the added bonus of leaving him alone to hit on Sonia some more. He starts asking her invasive questions about her relationship with Marizza, and she distracts him by saying that, as an art teacher, he should be qualified to draw a poster for her. Martavio sketches out something that vaguely looks like a human and he’s like, “It’s abstract!” Sonia susses out that he can’t draw, and wonders what he’s doing teaching art. I mean, that would make me suspicious if any of the other teachers at Elite Way were qualified for their jobs, but they’re not, so Martavio’s not really suspicious in that regard.

Lujan finds Marcos’s mom. Wow, that was easy. I didn’t know mental hospitals just gave out information on their patients like that.

Diego tries to stage an intervention for Marizza, re: Pablo. He’s like, “Don’t go down that path again, girl.” Marizza’s all weirded out by his concern, and Diego decides to fess up about what he did to her during the election. I don’t know why he’s suddenly deciding to do this. Is he supposed to feel guilty? I feel like that’s at odds with the little we know about his character; on the other hand, I guess he changes personality as the plot demands, like Belen. Anyway, Diego feels super bad, but Marizza is pissed at him.

Sol thanks Sonia for getting her an interview with the model agent, so I guess that worked out for her. Whatever.

Francisco’s trying to teach Marcos how to play basketball. It’s a futile effort, Francisco! Despite the eyebrow ring and lack of sweater vests this season, Marcos will always be a nerd. Francisco gets all distracted by Laura, and Marcos is like, “Dude, that’s never happening, just get over her.” Francisco cries that he only wants Laura, because what he feels for her is ~real~ or some shit. He wants what Marcos has with Lujan! Marcos is like, “You really don’t.” He admits that he’s not sure if he still wants to be with Lujan, because, like all fuckboys, he got a makeover and now he’s wondering if he should try to upgrade his girlfriend. Francisco tells Marcos that if he’s having doubts and doesn’t talk to Lujan, then that’s fucked up. Lujan runs up and Marcos is all ready to break up with her, but then she tells him that she’s found his mom. Oh, yikes. Marcos is like, “OMG, you are the best girlfriend ever and I would never want to break up with you!” For fuck’s sake, Marcos.

Sol’s modeling career has given Sonia the idea to host her own model workshop at the school, which will allow her to lure more girls into performative femininity and spy on Martavio at the same time. A win-win! Sonia wants Marizza to go, too. That really sounds like the exact opposite of something Marizza would be interested in, and of course Sonia makes it all about her and living vicariously through Marizza because something something Sonia wants a job at Elite Way and have I mentioned that I sort of stop listening when Sonia talks? Yeah. Anyway, Marizza’s not thrilled with the idea of her mom working at the school, but strikes a deal that she won’t fight the model workshop, as long as Sonia behaves herself. Sure, that’ll happen.

Hilda shows off her new look to Gloria. “And this is just the beginning of leaving my troubles behind,” she says. “Oh, it…doesn’t end here?” Gloria asks. HEE!

Guido sees Rocco talking to some guys in the lounge, and gets all paranoid that he’s telling God and everybody about Guido’s genital mishap. Pablo tells him that Rocco has better things to talk about than Guido’s dick, but then one of the guys says, “IMPOTENCE?” and Guido storms over all, “What are you guys talking about? YES, I can’t get it up, so there!” And one of the other guys mumbles that they were talking about something else that I can’t make out because this kid can’t enunciate for shit, and they’re like, “So…you’re impotent?” Guido’s like, “…stop saying words.”

Marizza runs up to Pablo and gushes that they should start doing practical workshops as part of their new student government. Pablo laughs off the idea, which I mean…it’s hilariously vague, but it’s not quite deserving of Pablo saying, “What are you smoking?” Marizza’s all salty that Pablo doesn’t want to listen to her, because she wants to work with him on the presidency. Laura asks why Marizza trusts Pablo so much, and Marizza says that she’s seen the real Pablo, and she knows that deep down he’s a good guy. Oh, Marizza. That’s what all dickmatized girls say.

Tomás is like, “So you and Marizza, huh?” Pablo tries to explain that nothing happened, but I mean, it’s Tomás, so he doesn’t quite grasp what Pablo’s saying.

Martavio’s BSed to Sonia that he totally can draw and he totally is a legit art teacher, he just…uh…can’t draw with anyone watching! So now he has until tomorrow to come up with a decent poster and pretend that he’s actually qualified to be a teacher in any way. Mia and Manuel come in to thank him for enabling their unhealthy relationship. Martavio advises them that they can’t just get back together; relationships take work. Mia and Manuel are like, “Work? What’s that?” but then they’re like, “Whatever,” and go on being all lovey-dovey. Then Martavio ropes Manuel into doing his drawing for him. Hee.

Dunoff tries to suss out whether or not Mama D knows that he pinned the blame for Sonia’s not-hiring on her, and also about their heinous torrid affair 20 years ago, and Sonia rocks up behind them all, “I only told your wife the truth!” Dunoff panics, but Sonia just derps on about how she and Mama D had a good laugh over how shit Dunoff is with computers or whatever. Dunoff thanks her for not blowing his cover, and they have a nice talk about how much Dunoff loves Mama D (he does?), and how Sonia will find someone one day. It looks like they’ve finally put their sexual tension to rest, which is good because the idea of Dunoff having sexual tension with anyone makes me want to vom.

Bianca is still trying to work up the courage to hit on Rocco. Lola marches her over to where Rocco’s angrily scratching a piece of paper (feel the angst!), and announces that BIANCA TOTALLY HAD A SEXY DREAM ABOUT HIM LAST NIGHT. Rocco’s like, “The fuck!” and Bianca is also like, “The fuck!” Bianca is understandably insanely embarrassed and runs away. Meanwhile, Lola sneaks into Rocco’s room and steals his camera. She and Bianca sit down to watch the video of the fashion show, and…all the footage is of Vico. Lola’s like, “Maybe he likes her platonically!”, but Bianca resigns herself to the fact that Rocco doesn’t like her. Aw! Man, I gotta say, I’m invested in both Rocco/Bianca and Rocco/Vico. Can the show be about them instead?

On the other side of the school, Vico finds another CD from Rocco, with a mildly douchey note: “You said you don’t like my songs, but I know you do, so here’s another CD.” Maybe she doesn’t like your shitty teenage emo music, Rocco. Come on. Of course she does, but it’s a bit much of him to assume. The CD is just him singing “Será de Dios”, which makes me wonder if it’s a Rocco song or an Erreway song? Erreway exists in the show’s universe, it can’t be both! Oh, wait, the show addresses this literally in the next line — Mia runs in and hears his song, and is actually impressed by it. She asks if she can borrow the CD so she can play it for Erreway, as they’re looking for new songs. Vico gets all defensive at the idea that Erreway might steal Rocco’s intellectual property, and Mia’s like, “Oooh, you liiiiike him.”

Martavio presents Sonia with Manuel’s drawing all, “So you agree I’m a real art teacher now, right? Right?” and Sonia’s like, “Nah man.” He claims he studied at the Sorbonne, because sure, why not pick a place that’s easy to fact-check and blow up his lie? Andres rolls up and after Martavio scurries off, Sonia’s like, “He’s evil!” Andres tells her that she’s being hysterical, and Sonia’s like, “Oh, well, maybe I am.” Well, damn, Sonia, at least commit to your conspiracy theories! And then Fernanda, Belen, and Pilar run up to ask about the model workshop, and Sonia assures them that everyone’s invited and they all gush.

Diego tells Marizza that everyone thinks she and Pablo are sleeping together (who is everyone? Tomás?). Marizza is understandably pissed, and storms off to go kick Pablo’s ass. Lujan frets to Laura that Marizza loses all rationality when it comes to Pablo, and it’s not like she had a lot to begin with, so her revenge is going to be super messy and they’re all going to get dragged into it.

Feli is going out with Alex again, and she and Mia gush and shriek some more over their romantic adventures. Feli panics that she has nothing to wear, and runs off to go look through her wardrobe. Ana comes over to Mia and vagues at her that Mia should be careful with Feli, because some people in this school are trying to break up their friendship. Mia’s like, “Do you…want to like…elaborate on that?” and Ana’s like, “I’ve said too much!” and scurries off.

On the other side of the cafeteria, Tomás and Guido are yelling about HOW COULD PABLO NOT HAVE TOLD THEM HE HAD SEX WITH MARIZZA? I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS! Then Sol rocks up and asks to speak with Tomás. “I’M LEAVING!” Guido keeps yelling, for some reason. Sol asks Tomás to come with her to her model interview, and poor dumb Tomás says yes. Over in the corner, Ana gets all emo.

Marcos tells Francisco that he didn’t break up with Lujan. Francisco’s like, “What the hell, man, you only complain about her every other episode.” Marcos whines that he’s just confused about literally everything in his life, and he doesn’t know what he’s going to do about both Lujan and his mom. Francisco’s like, “That’s rough, buddy.”

Pilar and Fernanda try to get Feli to break up with Mia again, but she refuses. “When you’re ready to stop living Mia’s life and start living your own, come find us,” Pilar snaps, and they storm off. Blas is spying on this conversation, for some reason.

Marizza cries that she believed in Pablo, but he turned out to be a jerk. Martavio finds her and BSes that he’s concerned about her because he’s concerned about all his students. But especially the ones that he thinks might be his daughter! He tries to get her to talk, but she blows him off, so he starts needling her about how she must not really be that strong, if she’s not willing to spill all her problems to a random teacher. Marizza finally breaks down and cries that she hates Pablo (but she loves him) (but she hates him!) and Martavio hugs her. Sonia storms in and yells at him, “Let go of my daughter!” Yeah! Get some boundaries, Martavio!
