Rebelde Way 1×117: Am I a Fucking Bet?

Oh my God, I have been waiting to use this title ever since Marizza started going out with Pablo. MY TIME HAS FINALLY COME! \O/

Anyway, opening monologue: Breaking up is hard to do, but we have to remember that love will come back into our lives eventually.

Previously on Rebelde Way, Tomás finally broke down and told Marizza the truth about Pablo’s amnesia. I like how Tomás’s weak will and inability to keep secrets is a consistent character trait with him.

Meanwhile, Marcos brings Lujan home from wherever her hotel was. You’d think, considering that she had to fly to get there, he wasn’t able to just hitchhike there and bring her back in the span of a few hours. Anyway, she’s all sad over her tutor flaking out on her again, and Laura offering her no answers. Marcos is like, “That’s rough. Wanna make out to forget about our disappointing parental figures?” They’re interrupted by Blas, who is all pleased that he can bust Marcos for leaving without permission now.

Marizza goes to see Sonia, crying over Pablo. Aw, Marizza! Don’t cry over him! I would say you can do better, but sadly, there is no “better” on this show. It’s pretty much all horizontal mobility here. Anyway, she begs Sonia to pull her out of school. Sonia’s like, “Being sad over a boy is totally a good reason to skip school!”

Pablo goes looking for Marizza, and Luna says she saw her earlier, talking to Tomás. Pablo: “Talking? To Tomás?” HEE. I love how he knows that can only be a bad thing. He drags Tomás off and demands to know what he said. Tomás chirps that he told Marizza about the bet, so now she hates Pablo again and he’s off the hook! “No need to thank me,” he says. HEE! ILU Tomás.

rebelde05501

Manuel jumps Mia and asks if she’s spoken to Blas yet. She lies and tells him Blas didn’t have any money to lend her, so Manuel was wrong and he can just leave them alone now. Mia! Why are you doing this!

Sonia goes to the school and asks Dunoff to excuse Marizza’s absences, on account of illness. “What does she have?” Dunoff wants to know. “Heartache,” Sonia says. Wow, way to spill Marizza’s personal life to her principal. Dunoff gets all up in Sonia’s face and says he’s very familiar with heartache. Ew. Get outta here, Dunoff, with your hitting on your students’ parents. Pablo finds Sonia and asks her where Marizza is, and she snips that Marizza has a message for him. Then she slaps him across the face. I mean, it’s kind of funny, but Sonia is a grown-ass woman. I think this is child abuse.

Blas is on the phone, being shady about money. Manuel overhears him ask someone for a lot of money, and Blas says it’s for a quince party.

Luna and all the tertiary girls are sitting together, trying to call Marizza. Sonia comes into the cafeteria and they swarm her for information. I like how they’re trying to pretend Fernanda cares about Marizza at all. She tells them that Marizza’s gone on a trip, and all the other tertiary characters in the cafeteria (plus Tomás) are shocked.

Renata calls Gloria, looking for the results of the Math Olympics. Gloria’s like, “Nothing, nothing…a telegram for Mansilla…nope, nothing for you.” Renata’s like, “A telegram? Is he receiving a message from 1930?” Mansilla’s dark secret is that he’s actually a time traveler! No, just kidding, she’s actually like, “A telegram? I bet it has heaps of information about his secret past!” Renata does know telegrams charge you by the word, right? Anyway, she reads it, and it just says, “We received all the papers. We’re looking at the case.” Renata’s like, “This could only be criminal activity!”

Sonia tells Mia that she can’t help her plan the party anymore, as she has to take care of Marizza. Mia’s immediately and unwillingly concerned about Marizza: she doesn’t like Marizza, but you know, she’s supposed to consult her about the party, because it’s for the two of them, right? Aw! Mia cares! Sonia leaves, and then Manuel comes into Mia’s room uninvited, as he does. He confronts her about Blas, and snaps that she’s covering for him because she doesn’t want to see the truth, because she’s a coward. Then he storms out all dramatically. Then Blas comes in. Man, Mia cannot get a break from strange guys barging into her room. Blas creeps on her about how she’s going to have the best party ever, and Mia finally snaps that she wants to know where he’s getting the money. She cries that she saw him with her own two eyes, at the pool hall-slash-sock hop of evil, and she knows he bribed Baby to leave his apartment. Blas says he’ll tell her later, and Mia shrieks that she can’t trust him. She breaks up with him and kicks him out. Oh my God, finally. And yet, I bet it won’t last.

Step away from the underage girls, Blas.

In the cafeteria, Guido tries to win Vico back with presents. How she has not figured out that he’s her admirer, I don’t know. He literally hands the gift to her, and she flips out on the entire cafeteria, demanding that they leave her alone. What the hell, Vico? Did she give her brain to Mia? Do these kids have like, a set number of brain cells to share among themselves? Sandra’s like, “Vico, do you have some issues you wanna talk about?” Vico says she thinks someone is pranking her because obviously no one could really like her, on account of her reputation. Sandra’s like, “Well, in another few hours, the sun will rise!”

rebelde16601

Pablo texts Marizza, trying to get her to talk to them. “How was I supposed to know you really liked her?” Tomás derps. Pablo’s so desperate to find her that he calls in Papa B. I’m sure Marizza will really appreciate that.

Feli comes into Mia’s room and catches her being emo over Blas. She tries to show Mia the invitations for the quince, but Mia cries that she doesn’t want to have her quince anymore. She rants about Feli not going and Sonia ditching her, but leaves Blas out of it. Feli agrees to go and be the maid of honor, and that cheers Mia up.

Simon comes by Sonia’s dressing room to creep on Marizza, but Sonia says she can’t tell him where Marizza is. He’s like, “Well, I just wanted to tell her that she looked super hot in the photos.” Appropriate! After he leaves, Pepa’s all twitterpated that he likes Marizza. Please raise your standards, Pepa. Then Papa B swings by, and Sonia snipes at him that Pablo doesn’t deserve to know where Marizza is. Papa B’s like, “Whatever,” and gets into the car with one of his shady underlings. He’s all ready to stalk Sonia across town, but then he changes his mind. Pablo is nearly an adult, it’s time for him to do his own stalking!

Blas comes by and wants to talk to Mia. He’s like, “Now that you’ve come to your senses and dumped me, I must manipulate you into feeling bad for me.” He sob stories to her about his hard life ~on the streets~ (remember how Lujan’s tutor is also from the streets?), and how hanging out at the shady pool hall and listening to ragtime was the only way to make money. And now he just does it because it makes him look cool. Anyway, he dramatically begs her forgiveness, and starts leaning in to mack it with her. And then Papa C shows up! Punch him, Papa C! Sadly, he does not. Blas starts getting all territorial, and wants to talk to Papa C, even as Mia tries to shoo him out. Papa C’s like, “No, no, let’s hear what he has to say.” Blas confesses that he’s dating Mia. And yet Papa C still does not punch him! Get outta here, Papa C. Bring in Manuel and his fists of fury. Papa C’s like, “You’re an adult and she’s a teenager! You have no shame, sir!” He threatens to get Blas fired (DO IT! DO IT! CHUG!), but Mia’s all like, “If you kick my sex offender boyfriend out of school, I’ll hate you forever!”

Dammit, Mia. Why you gotta do me like this?

rebelde29601

Renata finds Mansilla sitting at Gloria’s computer, and she’s all suspicious about what he might be doing. He clearly lies and says that he’s writing a book, and they snark at each other about what he could possibly write a book about. Renata pretends to leave, and when Mansilla finally steps away from the desk, she sneaks back in and steals his floppy disk(!!!!). I mean, it can hold slightly more information than a telegram, so hopefully that helps her out.

rebelde37201

Papa C goes to talk to Manuel (Marcos and Nico awkwardly clear out of the room by saying they’re going to go play games on a website that is clearly paying them to say that). He’s all disappointed in Manuel for helping Mia hide her relationship with Blas, but then he’s like, “Anyway, let’s get down to the stalking. What do you know about him?” Manuel says he knows that “Blas Heredia” is not his real name. “So then what is his real name?” Papa C asks. “I don’t know,” Manuel says. Papa C: “What do you mean, you don’t know?” Manuel: “I mean I don’t know his real name.” Papa C: “You don’t know? What does that mean?” I Don’t Know is on third, you guys! Anyway, Manuel swears he’s going to find out who Blas really is. Well, we only have about twenty(!) more episodes in this season, so he better hurry up. Papa C’s like, “Well, if you’re on the case, I guess I don’t have to report this sex offender to the school or anything.” God dammit, Papa C.

rebelde39201

The next day. Blas is all chipper that their relationship is out in the open, while Mia is less thrilled. She points out that she still doesn’t know his real name and he’s like, “Well you see, I had to use a fake name so I can live less than 1000 feet from a school zone.” Just kidding. He blows off her concern, and tells her that he got the money for her party from a bet. Then Manuel comes in, and Blas goes over to swing his dick around. He tells Manuel to stay away from Mia, or he’ll regret it.

Mama D swings by to brag to Dunoff that all the third years did well on her test, so that’s proof that she’s a good teacher. I was almost happy for her, then I remembered that they all cheated. Aw, Mama D 🙁 She just wants a solution to the problem that has no name. Anyway, one of the school board guys (Dr. Robles, who has been mentioned before, but like a hundred episodes ago) calls Dunoff.

Sandra is mad at Nico again, and tells him that Luna is just converting to Judaism to make him and his parents happy. Nico needs to man up and confront his parents about accepting her. I mean…fair enough, but again with Sandra telling Luna to make her own decisions, and then swooping in to fix things for her. At the very least, she could talk to Luna about converting, and encourage Luna to confront Nico. Just kidding, that would make sense.

At some house somewhere, Marizza is being emo. Simon’s followed Sonia, and he sneaks up in the bushes and starts taking photos of her crying, like a total creeper. Marizza might be sad, but she still loves being violent, and she chases him around trying to get at his camera. Break it over his head, Marizza! What would Anne of Green Gables do?

rebelde49501

Meanwhile, over on some tree branch, Sonia’s totally oblivious to what’s going on. Papa C calls her, and she needles him for a bit, but gets serious when he tells her there’s a problem with Mia. The problem is that you didn’t report her inappropriate relationship with Blas to someone, Papa C! This is your own damn fault!

rebelde50301

Back at school, Tomás is trying to write a breakup letter to Pilar, and it’s not going well. I mean, his first mistake was thinking that he can string a full sentence together. Pablo’s too busy emoing over Marizza to care about Tomás’s love troubles. “Tell me what you think,” Tomás says. “‘Dear Pilar: I don’t want to date you. I don’t feel a single thing for you.’” Tactful! Then Papa B comes in, and tells Pablo to forget Marizza: he’s just been nominated as his party’s candidate for vice president (of…the country? I feel there’s a step between being a mayor and being second in line to the presidency), so he wants to trot Pablo out at his press meetings. So if Pablo could just get over his love troubles real quick, that would be great.

rebelde52601

Mia swings by to tell Manuel that she’s back to believing every word Blas says again, and Manuel’s like, “Whatever.” Then Feli comes in, leading some guy (“Chiche”; they only say his name like eighty times) who introduces himself as Sonia’s event planner. Mia’s all twitterpated.

Sandra gives Vico a letter from Guido; Vico reads it and is all twitterpated. Sandra sits down with her and is like, “Soooo…your secret admirer is really romantic, huh?” I can’t believe Sandra is playing wingman for Guido, of all people. And she thinks Nico is a problem? Jesus, Sandra. Anyway, she tells Vico that the letter is from Guido, and Vico’s like, “I am shocked!” But she still won’t take Guido back! Wow, that was actually a twist. And a good decision! I’m proud of you, Vico. Guido promises he won’t be ashamed of her anymore and Vico rightly says, “You’re ashamed of your own mother.” Burn! She says she’s not mad at him anymore, but she won’t take him back. Well, I’m glad someone in this episode loves themselves. Then Gloria comes in and tells Guido that Dunoff wants to see him.

rebelde63401

Nico apologizes to Luna for being selfish, and tells her that she doesn’t have to convert to Judaism on his account. He says he’ll talk to his family. “Really, this time,” he adds. Hee. I love how even he knows he’s been a flake before.

rebelde58401

Marizza yells at Sonia for telling Simon where they’re hiding, and Sonia’s like, “I didn’t tell anyone where we are!” An excellent time for Papa C to show up! Man, this place is not well-hidden at all. He wants to talk about Mia, and Sonia decides to mess with him by making him go horseback riding with her. It’s funny, I guess.

rebelde62201

Renata sneaks into the office again and looks at Mansilla’s floppy disk(!!!!!!) on Gloria’s computer. Seriously, she doesn’t have her own? It’s 2002, Renata! You should at least have dial-up! Anyway, she’s all shocked at whatever she finds on there.

Marizza finds Simon’s motorcycle and plans to make off with it and find him. Of course, she has no idea how to ride one and goes flying over a bump. I’m sure you’re all on tenterhooks wondering if she’ll live or die!
