Opening monologue: Why are we so afraid of love? We can’t live without it, but it still makes us scared.
Mia and Manuel have followed Blas to some shady part of town. He’s told Mia that he has family matters to take care of, but when they follow him to a building, they see nothing of the sort! Instead, he’s playing pool with a bunch of other guys, while jaunty ragtime music plays in the background. Really? I’m never gonna get to hear any of that sweet early 2000s reggaeton, am I. Mia’s all like, “Only criminals listen to Scott Joplin!” and clings to Manuel in fright. They watch in horror as Blas challenges some guy to an arm wrestling match. Never go to the bad side of town, you guys! You might witness some devastating arm wrestling! Maybe even a thumb war!
Meanwhile, Pablo and Marizza have been dragged off at gunpoint to meet with Papa B. I misspoke in the last post, when I said it was just Pablo. It looked like just him, but no, it’s them both. Anyway, Papa B watches them from a desk, looking v. Don Corleone. Marizza, for some reason, is surprised by Papa B being a lowkey mafioso. Papa B yells at Pablo for destroying Simon’s car. Marizza says they’ll fix it, but Papa B says he’s already done so: he’s agreed that Pablo will give Simon his car in exchange. Pablo knows it’s useless to argue, but Marizza snaps to Papa B that he has no shame. They storm out, and Papa B’s like, “Whatever.” He smells some flowers, which I guess is supposed to make him seem wicked cultured or something, but is mostly just so random that I started laughing.
Speaking of Simon! He’s back at school, talking quince plans with Sonia, while Feli salivates over him. Simon wants to get the lay of the land, and Sonia sends Feli off to accompany him.
Sandra confronts Luna over her wanting to be Jewish. Luna says she wants to do it to be closer to Nico, and so that his family will lay off her. That’s not a very good reason to convert to a religion. Sandra wants her to think it over some more, but Luna blows her off.
Back at Blas’s shady pool hall, Manuel decides to start poking around for information about Blas. He quickly learns, however, that most of Blas’s peers don’t appreciate the company of teenagers as much as Blas does. He and Mia pretend to be reporters and ask some guy about Blas, but the guy snaps that nobody gives names around here. The only thing he knows is that Blas’s dad’s name is Pedro. They only get this information after like, five minutes of embarrassing dicking around. Manuel doesn’t know how to pay someone to get information? He’s the worst bad boy ever. Even Jordan Catalano could do better than this.
Marizza and Pablo return to school, commiserating over their crappy parents. They’re so cute together. And it’s only going to end up badly. Anyway, Lujan rocks up so Pablo splits, telling Marizza that they’ll go to the club together. Omg, is Erreway going to lip-sync a song in this episode? Lujan tells Marizza that she got the phone number of the orphanage director, a lady named Laura Flores. Marizza calls her pretending to be Lujan, but the second she says Lujan’s name, Laura hangs up on her. SUSPICIOUS.
Mia and Manuel also head back to school, and in the span of five minutes, Mia’s decided that Blas hanging out on the bad side of town doesn’t mean anything. Sigh. She’s not a little weirded out that he lied to her about where he was going? Anyway, she runs into Blas, and he wants to know where she went with Manuel. She lies that they went to the club to prepare, but Blas is all pissy about how he can see the dishonesty in her eyes. Mia calls him out on his lies, and tells him she knows he and Manuel were fighting about Lujan. Blas says they weren’t fighting about Lujan, they fighting over Mia — Manuel was insulting Mia, so Blas defended her honor. Mia’s ego is all appeased, and she believes him. Oh, Mia.
In the bathroom, Marizza tells Lujan not to give up on finding her tutor. They’ll figure out a way to find her, on the Internet, or something. There’s a contrived bit where Marizza gets some makeup on her jeans, and sends Lujan out to get her another pair of pants. This is just an excuse for Lujan to run into Marcos in the hall, and overhear him asking his aunt if she knows where his mom is. Lujan remembers Marizza’s words about finding someone.
Meanwhile, Simon walks into the bathroom while Marizza’s in there in her underwear, trying to clean her jeans. He takes a bunch of pictures of her before she notices him. And this, folks, is why separate bathrooms are a thing. Pablo swoops in to save his lady love, and then Sonia and Feli run in too. Simon denies that he was taking pictures of Marizza, and Sonia abandons the point alarmingly quickly. She chirps that this is clearly all a misunderstanding, and she and Marizza sweep out. She’s gonna regret that when Simon puts the pictures of Marizza up on the internet, Cruel Intentions-style. Anyway, Pablo tells Simon to get out, and Simon laughs at him: he can’t kick Simon out, he’s Elite Way’s new photographer! Everything’s coming up Simon!
Sonia asks Marizza if she and Pablo are really dating, and Marizza BSes that she hates him, as usual. Mia comes in and Sonia tells her that she’s found a photographer for the party. Marizza snaps that she doesn’t want Simon to take the photos, but then Feli comes in with some of the shots he took, and Mia squeals that she loves them.
Tomás tells Pablo that his cousin is coming to the club with them tonight, and she’s bringing some friends along. “You did break up with Marizza, right?” Pablo BSes that he tried, but she looked like she was going to cry, so he didn’t. He and Tomás cackle over him almost bringing her to tears. What prizes they are. Pablo changes the subject to Simon: “Remember him?” “With the weird sunglasses?” Tomás asks. Hee. Pablo wants Tomás to get close to Simon, for revenge purposes. They go to find him in the cafeteria, where he’s taking photos of-slash-perving on Mia and Feli. When he leaves, Feli sighs that she’s crazy about him, and Mia squeals that he must like her too: after all, he took a million photos of her! Because he’s a photographer, Mia. She’s just setting Feli up for disappointment, man.
Lujan catches up to Marcos, and asks him if he can find an address for her based on the telephone number. He’s not happy about it, but he takes Laura’s number and agrees to search for her.
Vico and Guido come back to school, after their hot date of DDR and Pac-Man. They make out but Guido’s dad interrupts them. He tells Guido that his mom has agreed to apply for his reentry back into school. Guido has to write an apology letter, and then he can come back. That was easy. Guido’s all happy, but his dad snips to thank his mom. If his dad had his way, Guido would never finish high school! Guido’s like, “Okay…then I’d be mooching off you for like the rest of my life, but okay…”
Manuel rocks up to Mia and tells her that they should continue their investigation tomorrow. She snaps that she won’t keep helping him, since he lied to her about fighting with Blas. Manuel’s like, “Why would I fight with Blas over you?” Heh. She asks why they would be fighting over Lujan, and he can’t tell her. He simply says she has to decide who she believes, and Mia’s like, “Fine, I choose Blas.” She blathers on about how he’s her boyfriend, and she knows he’s a good person deep down. Given the nature of their relationship, I’d say those two things directly cancel each other out. Manuel snap at her that their relationship is going to end badly. Hey, if it ends with Blas going to jail, I wouldn’t call that bad at all.
Sonia goes to Dunoff to get him to approve bringing Simon in as the school photographer. He doesn’t really want to, but then Sonia pushes her boobs in his face and he agrees.
Nico convinces Luna to come to the club with him, so that Tatiana can see them together and stop stalking him. Luna worries that his mom will also see them, and frets that she wants Nico’s family to like her. Nico assures her that his mom won’t be there, and that everything will work out fine, even if his family are a bunch of dicks. Meanwhile, Sandra goes over to Nico’s house to yell at his parents for making Luna want to convert. She thinks Luna’s too young to be making such a decision, but Mama Provenza stops listening, because she’s all excited to have caught Luna and Nico’s lie. Uh…I thought she had already figured out that they were lying about Luna being Jewish? On account of Luna not knowing how to prepare gefilte fish? Whatever.
Marcos comes up to Lujan, and is suddenly bizarrely nice to her. He tells her that he found the information she was looking for, and is all bashful about it. Aw, they’re so cute together.
He finds her later on and asks if the address helped any, but she says she didn’t check it out. She’s hanging onto the bars of the stairwell, by the way, and totally giving away how flimsy the prop is. She admits that she’s afraid of seeing the orphanage director, and Marcos offers to go with her. So cute!!!
Tomás tries to ingratiate himself to Simon — Simon, unlike most people on this show, can remember what’s happened in the previous episodes, and notes that Tomás and Pablo are friends. Tomás denies it, then Marizza rolls up and starts yelling at Simon. He doesn’t pay her any attention, just keeps taking shots of her until she gets into it and starts mugging for the camera. Heh. He has her number. I would’ve just broken the camera, though.
Pablo and Tomás plan to hook up with Tomás’s cousin and her friends at the club. Uh, I hope Tomás isn’t planning on getting with his own cousin. Although, knowing Tomás, I would not be surprised. After all, she’s only his first cousin. Anyway, Pablo is still putting off dumping Marizza, and Tomás snarks that she’s going to break up with him first if he’s not careful. Simon is crazy into her, as we all knew he would be.
Sonia tells Simon his pictures are boring, and tells him he needs a unique model to bring a different ~touch to his work. Simon leaps to do her bidding, and Sonia’s all pleased with him. Meanwhile, Mia convinces Feli to ask Simon to the club tonight, and they run around looking for him. Sonia squeals that Simon will totally pick Feli to be his model.
On the other end of school, Simon is totally not picking Feli to be his model. Instead, he’s creeping on Marizza, who’s hanging around on some bench, exposing her midriff, as you do. He’s such a perv.
Marizza leaves, and Feli and Mia come in. Mia shoves Feli at Simon and then runs off shrieking, “I’m leaving now, bye!” HEE! Feli invites Simon to the club to hear the band play, and he accepts when she tells him that Marizza’s in the band. Aw, Feli 🙁
Blas pops up in Mia’s room, like the creeper he is, and says he wants to go to the club with her tonight. Mia shoots him down, since everyone else in the band hates him. He gets all pissy about Manuel and how Mia can’t be left to his clutches, blah blah blah, until Mia caves. Aw, Mia 🙁 Sonia comes in and, God love her, expresses disapproval at Mia and Blas’s creepy relationship.
That night, everyone goes to the club. Tatiana’s all excited that Nico has to come see the band play, and then she can convince him to love her again. Love yourself, Tatiana. All the kids conga line their way in (seriously), with Blas bringing up the rear, hopefully wondering what he’s doing with his life. Nico and Luna make out, and Tatiana is not happy at all. Nico sees his parents are here, and freaks out.
Sonia comes along, which does not please Marizza at all. She confronts Manuel over his and Mia’s fake relationship, and she’s like, “I ship you guys so hard!” Simon rolls up to Marizza and asks if the band has a photographer; Marizza snaps that it’s not going to be him. Heh.
Marcos and Lujan have not gone to the club; instead, they’re wandering along some street. Marcos suggests they talk out their issues. Can this not wait until after Lujan discovers the secrets of her past or whatever? Just kidding, telenovela romance waits for no one! Lujan tells him about her sad past, and confesses that she’s afraid the orphanage director will tell her that her tutor and everyone around her is just taking care of her for the adoption money, and no one really loves her. He tells her that he feels the same way, on account of his shitty mom and all, and suggests that they make a pact not to leave each other behind. She accepts, and Marcos is like, “So…should we make out?” Lujan’s like, “Feelings are for the weak!” He tells her he doesn’t like Marizza anymore, and she admits she was just screwing around with Diego. Then they make out.
I LOVE THEM, OKAY.
Nico’s parents confront him and Luna about their throne of lies, and eventually Nico snaps that they love each other, and his parents can deal with it. His dad says that as long as Luna converts to Judaism, he’s okay with it. Nico’s mom flips out, but Nico’s dad is all happy for them and pulls them all in for a group hug. Tatiana sees this and is not pleased, again, some more. She storms off and tells her dad to ruin the band, so she doesn’t have to see Nico’s stupid face around the club anymore.
The band gets up and sings “Será porque te quiero.” Manuel dedicates the song to a certain someone, which makes Blas sulk in the audience. When they’re done with their set of one song, he storms up to Manuel and tells him to back off his girlfriend. “What do you mean by ‘my girlfriend’?” Papa C asks, popping up behind him. Man, everyone is at this club tonight.
