Opening monologue: Once again, we skip the monologue in favor of something more interesting. After 50 episodes, we finally find out who the third year watcher is! Amazingly, this is the fastest any of the plots have ever been wrapped up!
Marcos is all shocked: “YOU’RE the third year watcher?!” I too am kind of shocked, because it’s Guido!
WHOA MAN.
I mean, not that shocked, because he is smarter than Tomás, if only by an iota. But still surprised that Guido has any hobbies besides like, masturbating and lying to people. Anyway, Marcos flips the fuck out, and Guido’s like, “Well, now that I’ve revealed myself, we’re both in danger, so maybe run first and freak out later?” Marcos is like, “How dare you! I thought we were friends!” Since when, Marcos? Anyway, Guido finally manages to convince him to run, and they escape through some random passageway that’s just appeared in the last few episodes.
Back at the club, Luz is stroking Manuel’s ego and/or boner when Mia rolls up. She tries to tell Manuel that they need to talk, but Manuel’s like, “Pfft, whatever you have to say can’t be as important as me getting some.” I bet it could be. Mia is all snippy with Luz and accidentally-on-purpose spills some juice on her top (“I would never do that to something so polyester!…but if you want, I’ll return you the three pesos* you paid for it.”)
* I think she says “three”…or maybe “thirteen”? Either way, that’s pretty harsh, considering they both amount to less than a US dollar.
Mia tries to tell Manuel that Luz is going to get her kicked out of the band (and she’s going to blame Manuel if she does). Manuel is all passive-aggressive and pissy, but later, when they’re alone, he asks Luz not to tell Papa C about Mia. Luz agrees to do it for him, and they make out. Mia is all sad in the background.
Meanwhile, Mama Provenza tells Luna that Nico and Tatiana have broken up for real. “It’s a disgrace to the family!” I dunno what kind of reaction she was expecting Nico’s other girlfriend to have, ’cause Luna’s like, “For real? Sweet.” Heh. But Mama Provenza is smarter than she lets on, because she bitters that Nico dating Tatiana was the only reason Mauricio gave Papa Provenza a job, which is the only thing preventing his heart attacks, which is the only thing preventing their family from falling into a spiral of shame and poverty and Nico dying of hunger, oh the humanity. If Luna really loves Nico, how could she let this happen?! Luna’s martyr powers are activated. Well played, Mama Provenza.
Marcos and Guido hide out in the laundry room. Are they going to make out? Just asking. Marcos wants to know why Guido is in the Society, and he bitters about how Guido is just like the rest of them. Did he…not already think that? And then Guido tries to hug him. WHAT IS HAPPENING? Anyway, Guido spills the whole story: the Society chose him because they knew he was desperate to belong, because he’s hella poor and ashamed of his family and all that stuff we already knew about him. I gotta say, this actually makes sense? I mean, I’d argue there are other kids who are ashamed of being poor (Vico, to some extent), but only Guido is desperate and weak-willed enough to go around jumping his classmates. Marcos is all pissed and storms out. Guido asks him not to tell anyone, but we’ll see how that goes over.
Lujan and her not-tutor come back from dinner. She tries to tell him once more about how Blas is a predator and just a general all-around douche, but her not-tutor BSes that Lujan has to be nice to him so she won’t get kicked out of Elite Way. Lujan threatens to run away and go live on the streets, and her not-tutor is like, “Don’t be silly, then you wouldn’t be on this show anymore.”
Five minutes after their fight, Marcos agrees to see Guido again, I’m guessing due to their long history of friendship and trust that’s just been established in the past five minutes. Guido says they (and Manuel) have to run away until the Society “calms down.” Marcos, correctly, is like, “Dude, their whole lives are dedicated to purifying a high school. THEY ARE NEVER GOING TO CALM DOWN.” Nevertheless, they don’t have a better plan, so Marcos leaves to go pack. The second he opens the door, the Society busts in and jumps the two of them. They probably should’ve seen that coming.
Mia comes back to school, and Vico and Feli are all twitterpated over the band’s success. You’d think Feli would be a little bitter, seeing how she only gave the band up because of Vico’s douchey brother. Vico and Feli are also both hanging around in sundresses, for some reason.
They tell her that Papa C was trying to call her, and he sounded pissed. He yells at her for going out, and then yells some more when she tries to rag on Luz for not giving Papa C both her messages. He snaps that Mia’s coming to Casa Colucci tomorrow so he can tell her something very important. Then he hangs up and goes back to making out with Mercedes. Mia’s all offended and wails that she has to get rid of Luz and Mercedes. But how?!
Pablo comes back to his room, and sees a strange watch lying on his bed. Tomás recognizes it as Marcos’s (I told you they were secret BFFs). Tomás didn’t go to the club, by the way, because his grandma and his mom got sick. Fair enough. Pablo notices Guido’s half-packed bag, and begins to suspect that something weird is going on.
(Fun fact gleaned from this scene: Guido is apparently a Boca Juniors fan, as one of their posters hangs above his bed.)
Over in Marizza’s room, Luna is fretting over what to do about Nico. Both Lujan and Marizza are like, “Don’t listen to his crazy mom and don’t break up with him, duh.” “But his mom laid out a bizarre and not at all subtle scenario that blames me for him dying! I can’t be with him,” Luna wails. Marizza and Lujan give up, and Marizza notes that Sonia and Pepa have both tried to call her, plus Damian. “Who’s Damian?” Lujan and Luna want to know. I know, it’s been two episodes and I’ve already forgotten him too.
Manuel tells Nico that he’s gotta be honest with his parents and Nico’s like, “No, I’m definitely gonna lie to them.” Sucks to be Nico, because he gets shown up by the main plotline when Pablo and Tomás come in. Pablo drops off Marcos’s watch and asks what Marcos was doing in his room. Manuel derps that Marcos has been out sick all day. Pablo, Tomás, and Nico all exchange looks, but then Manuel’s like, “Whatever, I’ll call him tomorrow.” Dammit, Manuel! They could be solving crime, but you are bringing them down.
Luz wanders around Papa C’s office and voiceovers evilly that she has to figure out a way to tell Papa C that Mia’s in the band, without Manuel finding out it was her. Oh, Luz, you’re so predictably and generically evil. She writes a note, because, after all, nobody will ever be able to tell her handwriting apart from anyone else’s.
The next day. Renata rocks in to the teachers’ lounge to needle Mansilla. I feel like we haven’t seen either of them in a while. Hi, guys! Renata tells Mansilla again that she wants the kids to go to the Math Olympics, and Mansilla snips that they have to study for other classes. Renata suggests that they replace gym class (soccer for the boys and dance class for the girls) with a study hall for them to work on their math, and notes that she already spoke with Etchamendi. Mansilla jumps on that: “Was it an intimate meeting?” Ooooh. Renata snaps that her private life is none of this business, and Mansilla’s like, “Whatever, I’m just sayin’, it sounds pretty sad if the two of you talk about school when you’re together.” Dang, Mansilla. He flounces on out, which is unlucky for him because then Gloria pops in and says some woman is here to see him, and she is pissed. Renata meets with her, and the woman snaps that Mansilla stood her up last night. Oh! I totally forgot that Guido, Pablo, and Tomás made that date with her on AIM!
Manuel calls Marcos’s house and is shocked, shocked to find out that Marcos isn’t there. Nico and Tomás run up, all aflutter because they can’t find Guido, either. “Something weird is going on!” Nico says. Ha! I didn’t even see that before I made my Buffy joke. Pablo runs up with Guido’s Society robe, and they realize Guido must be the third year water. “No puede ser!” Pablo says. Pablo! Every time someone on this show says that, whatever they think can’t be suddenly MANAGES TO BE. Have you learned nothing?
Guido regains consciousness in some basement that doesn’t look like the usual basement. Well, a school as big as Elite Way has got to have more than one basement, right? Even if they only have about one-fourth of a library. It has a desk and some fancy lamps and chairs; it might be an attic or abandoned classroom. It looks more like a fancy school than any other room they’ve shown so far, actually.
True love.
Anyway, Marcos is breathing raspily and won’t wake up. Guido eventually pulls the covering off the vent and tells Marcos he’ll be back, and then crawls his way to freedom, John McClane-style. God, I can’t wait to watch Die Hard this Christmas. Anyway, he struggles to breathe and keeps coughing, but carries on. I can’t believe Rebelde Way, of all things, has the most realistic depiction of crawling through air vents in fiction.
Mia catches up to Blas, who acts all pissy with her. He snaps that he doesn’t want to hear her explanation, because he’s not a child like her classmates. And yet, here he is trying to fuck around with her. Blas is the worst.
Marizza invites Damian (Damion? Whatever, I don’t care) to the school, and he insists that he has to see Sonia. Marizza’s like, “But who are you, and why do you want to see my mom anyway?” and he’s like, “Not important! I MUST SEE HER.” Marizza agrees to give him Sonia’s number if he comes back later, and wails that Lujan and Luna that Sonia must be cheating on Luca with this guy. Lujan and Luna armchair psychoanalyze her, and speechify about how nobody is perfect, and Marizza has to accept that her mom has flaws. But do they even know that Sonia’s cheating on Luca? Come on, guys. This is some Manuel levels of deduction. After Luna and Lujan head to class, Sandra comes over and asks Marizza what’s up with Luna, but Marizza says it’s not her story to tell. Sandra is perturbed.
Nico, Manuel, Pablo, and Tomás all go to tell Dunoff about Marcos and the Society, but Dunoff’s like, “You’re just making this up to get out class!” The kids are like, “Dude, we don’t need to make up stories about a secret society to get out of class. We usually just waltz out and no one cares.” Dunoff yells that Guido and Marcos are obviously just playing hooky (together? Why are they suddenly friends?), and they’ll all be in trouble once they come back.
The boys return to class and wonder if they should tell Mansilla what’s going on. Manuel’s like, “No, he’s of the Society!” “You think everyone’s in the Society,” Tomás deadpans. Hee. Not untrue. Renata comes in and all too happily shows Mansilla’s not-date in. She reams Mansilla out for standing her up, and he’s like, “Wha?” All the kids start cheering, and Mansilla quickly shuts them down and gives them work. Tomás pulls out his phone and texts Luna, while yet another Avril Lavigne song plays in the background. If you ever meet anyone who has never heard an Avril Lavigne song, you can just show them the past two episodes to catch them up on half of her first CD. He apologizes for standing her up and promises he’ll explain, and Luna is all twitterpated. Aw.
Guido manages to crawl his way out of the school vents and onto the roof. He’s like, “Whoa, this is pretty high up,” and decides the best way to get down is just to…fall off. Oh. Okay. I feel like I might’ve jinxed it when I said he was smarter than Tomás. (Yes, yes, he probably lost his balance from all the fumes, I know.)
Meanwhile, Sandra pulls Nico out of class to yell at him for upsetting Luna, and he quickly pins it on Tomás, for standing Luna up. Sandra’s like, “Woo, another one of Luna’s boyfriends to mess with!” After class, when Tomás comes running in looking for Guido, Sandra pretends she’s seen him and dicks Tomás around for a few minutes. Dammit, Sandra, I never thought I’d say this about Guido, but this is actually an emergency! Luna comes in and forgives Tomás for standing her up. He tells her he’s ditching class to look for Guido, and Luna says she’ll go with him. Tomás tells her that they think Guido is in the Society, and starts crying all over Luna. Aw! Poor dumb Tomás.
Back in class, Pablo, Nico, and Manuel are like, “It’s been real, Renata, but we gotta go, so…peace.” Heh. She’s not happy at all.
Blas is perving over the newspaper when he sees that Mia’s put in a bunch of cutesy post-its apologizing to him. He’s like, “I can’t resist this obvious reminder that she’s a dumb teenager!” and gets all smiley. Ugh, I hate him. He meets Mia after class and they make out in the hallway, in front of God and everybody. That includes Pilar, who smiles all smugly when she sees them. Whatever. I hope she blows their affair wide open and Blas gets arrested. I know, I hope for too much.
Tomás and Luna walk around campus. They don’t seem to be looking very hard, honestly, but lucky for them, they see Guido’s arm sticking out of the bushes where he fell. Tomás tries to wake him up, and Guido mumbles Marcos’s name. Aw! Sucks to be Tomás. Luna runs and gets Mansilla, and Guido manages to tell them that Marcos is somewhere in the school. “There were a lot of books,” he says. Mansilla’s like, “Uh, that definitely rules out him being in the school.” Just kidding. He says he knows where that is, which makes Manuel all suspicious. Mansilla snaps that they don’t have time, and he runs off to find Marcos.
Luca shows up to the school, and Marizza brings over Damian and says Sonia’s having an affair with him. Luca’s like, “What?” and Damian’s also like, “What?” Golly, do you think Marizza might’ve gotten this wrong? Just then, Sonia walks in and she’s like, “What are you guys talking about?”
Mansilla & co. break down the door and find Marcos still lying there. That’s lucky, I thought for sure the Society would’ve moved him. Manuel asks if Marcos is still alive, and the episode ends before Mansilla can answer. Suspense!
