Rebelde Way 1×084: You’re Breaking Up the Band, Yoko

Opening monologue: When we choose our paths, sometimes we have to leave things behind.

We open where we left off: Marizza noticing that Paula’s showed up to band practice, and immediately macking it with Pablo to piss her off. Marizza really drags it out, while Nico, Manuel, and Mia are just like, “…awkward.”

Paula comes storming in, and Pablo sputters that it’s not what she thinks. Marizza’s like, “Sorry, I got carried away by music and love!” Mia, Manuel, and Nico all hustle out of there (and presumably Marizza too, after gloating a little), and Paula demands that Pablo explain himself. He protests that he doesn’t want to make out with Marizza anymore, but Paula’s all paranoid that it’s going to keep happening if he stays in the band, and she wants him to quit. “The band is my life!” Pablo wails. “Pfft, don’t exaggerate,” Paula says. I mean, he’s a teenager, Paula. You knew what you were getting yourself into. Anyway, if he doesn’t do it, she’s going to break up with him. Just do it, Paula. Even you can do better than a 15-year-old.

Back in her room, Marizza’s all smug over messing with Paula and Pablo. Lujan merely remarks that while she was off rehearsing-slash-destroying relationships, Sonia was blowing up her phone with messages. Marizza’s like, “Ugh, who cares.” I think you will, Marizza, when the inevitable dramatic scene where the show tries to make us care about Nacho comes around! Lujan, for some reason, is advocating responsibility and wants Marizza to call Sonia back. Who is this person, and what has she done with Lujan?

Nacho and Lito, the bad side of town, poverty, abusive sibling relationships, etc. Nacho tells Lito that the police are looking for him, and Lito decides that they have to leave Buenos Aires now. Nacho wants to write Pepa a letter, and Lito’s like, “Are you fucking new? Emotions are for SQUARES.”

Nico and Luna meet up in the cupboard under the stairs, but Luna’s all sad over moving away. Weirdly, Nico doesn’t get it the first time, and Luna has to specify that she’s moving away forever. Like he thought she was just moving houses for the weekend? Whatever, Nico. Anyway, he immediately starts crying that he won’t know what to do without her. Luna tries to explain that it’s on account of her mysteriously ill and disabled sister, and Nico’s just like, “Well, what about me?” What the fuck? It’s not all about you, Nico! He tells Luna to put herself first, and says they should spend the weekend together. Luna’s like, “Ugh, you don’t understand! NOBODY UNDERSTANDS ME!” and storms out of the cupboard.

“BUT WHAT ABOUT ME?”

Marcos rants to Manuel about his girl troubles, in particular Marizza. I thought he and Marizza made up? Whatever. Maybe even Marcos isn’t that much of a pushover. Manuel’s like, “I feel you, women are all the same.” Marcos snarls that they’re not all the same: one of them is much worse than the others, and that one is Lujan! Aw, poor Lujan. Why you gotta be so mean, Marcos 🙁 Anyway, Manuel says he’s done dating: from now on, he’s just going to focus on his plan. I think he’s just saying that because he’s basically been through the whole school at this point, and there’s no one left for him to date anyway. Marcos is like, “What plan?” and Manuel’s like, “Uh…my plan to become a monk.” Heh. Then Marcos pulls back his covers and sees a note from the Society on his bed. They want to kidnap him tomorrow for more Society shenanigans.

The next day, Sonia comes to see Marizza, and she’s like, “Why didn’t you answer your phone! This is legitimately important!” As expected, Marizza’s all snippy, but she changes her tone right quick when she finds out it’s about Nacho. Speaking of whom! He calls Marizza’s phone to say goodbye, and tells her that he’s leaving with some friends. Marizza and Sonia try to get him to tell them where he’s going, but he just cries that he loves them and Pepa, and he’ll be happier on the streets with people like him. He hangs up, and Marizza and Sonia freak out. Lujan’s like, “What’s wrong with the streets? I grew up on the streets and I turned out just fine! I’m not overly violent and uncomfortable with emotions at all!” Hee. Oh, Lujan.

At the station, Nacho jumps on a train with his brother. I wish this were the end of them, but I bet it’s not.

In the cafeteria, all the girls are still falling over themselves trying to ingratiate themselves to Feli. Sonia comes in and Feli’s like, “Hi Sonia, we’re just talking about your dance group!” Sonia’s like, “What dance group?” and for half a second it looks like Feli’s in trouble again, but then she talks Sonia into helping anyway. That was pointless.

The teachers’ lounge. Econ teacher muses that Hilda seems unhappy, and asks Renata’s opinion. “I’m a math teacher, not the school psychologist,” Renata deadpans. HEE! God, I love her. Mansilla’s like, “So are we gonna talk about you stealing all my classes?” Renata’s like, “It’s not my fault this shitty school only dedicates 10% of the day to learning.” Just kidding, she doesn’t say anything, because she gets a call from Etchamendi. I note that she calls him by last name, despite whatever their implied relationship is. She snarks that she’s liking Elite Way, even if some people don’t think her subject is as important as theirs. Burn, Mansilla. After she hangs up, she sweeps out and tells Mansilla to take his scheduling problem up with Gloria. Econ teacher is like, “Omg, she’s petty and hates Mansilla, just like me.”

Pablo rants to Tomás and Guido about Marizza. He’s like, “This is the last time she goes crazy on me!” Tomás and Guido are like, “Yeah, good luck with that.” Pablo tells them that he’s going to leave the band for Paula. Jesus, Pablo, don’t do that to yourself. Or to Paula, for that matter. Then the bell rings, and Blas pops up behind them all, “You’re taking more than half a second to get to class! Get moving!”

In class, Mia is all sad, presumably over Manuel stealing her song. Blas is like, “Woo, I love vulnerable underage girls!” He pretends that she’s in trouble and hauls her off to the office. Marizza is also missing, and Lujan says she’s not feeling well. Pablo doesn’t believe this, and leaves class under the pretext of using the bathroom. Hilda doesn’t mind all the missing students, though, because she’s all twitterpated over Hilaro. So twitterpated, in fact, that she’s canceling the test: she trusts these kids to use their consciences to study on their own. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT WORKED. Also, I feel like if this taught Hilda anything, it should have been that these kids will use their consciences to do anything but study. Anyway, Luna notes that Hilda still doesn’t look too happy. Probably on account of Hilario still being married and whatnot.

Marizza yells at Sonia to leave because she wants to be all emo over Nacho by herself. She curls up in bed and cries, and a montage of all Nacho and Marizza’s good times plays. Blah blah “Perder un amigo” blah. Who cares. Holy shit, this is a long montage. Maybe Nacho really is leaving.

Blas takes Mia to the teachers’ lounge on the pretext of her being in trouble, but in fact he just noticed that she was sad and wanted to help her. I’m suspicious, and Mia should be too, but instead she cries all over him that she’s in love with the wrong boy. Blas actually gives somewhat good advice: he tells her that it takes time and effort, but she’ll get over him, and she has to be strong so he doesn’t see that he’s destroyed her. Mia’s like, “Omg, Blas, you’re so wise.” No, Mia! Don’t trust him, just take his not-terrible advice and run!

rebelde63501

DAMMIT, MIA.

Pablo finds Marizza in her room, and instead of noticing that she’s been bawling her eyes out or anything suitably dramatic, he just snaps at her that he’s leaving the band and she’s like, “Good, I hope you leave the school so I never have to see your stupid face again!” and he’s like, “I would, because then I wouldn’t have to see YOUR stupid face!” I can see why Paula would want to date someone as mature at this!

Mansilla’s in the cafeteria when a bunch of the boys come in all, “Math is hard!” Mansilla’s like, “Aha, Renata is bad at her job, I must save the students and make her indebted to me!”

Sandra brings Luna to the office, where Mama Luna has come with Flor. Sandra and Luna are all like, “Omg, this is so nice! Mama Luna, you’re so wonderful!” and then Mama Luna says that she brought Flor so that Luna could tell her to her face that she’s abandoning her. For some reason, Sandra’s all shocked that Mama Luna would do this. Sandra and Mama Luna leave them alone, and Luna tells Flor that she’s coming with her. Flor’s like, “No, I don’t want you to come with me.” Luna’s like, “Omg, you can talk! Marizza was right!” I hate to say it, but on this show, Marizza is always right. She could say the sky is green and it would be true. Anyway, Flor says she doesn’t want Luna to leave because the drama at Elite Way is too good and if Luna leaves, Flor won’t get to know what’s going on. I’M SERIOUS, THAT’S HER REASONING. I mean…I’d be a hypocrite if I judged her for that! Anyway, Luna promises to stay and she won’t tell Mama Luna that Flor can talk.

Luca turns in his second draft of fashion designs to Papa C, and Papa C shoots him down again. Luca’s like, “I can’t follow your directions! I am a creative soul, you must give me room to fly!” Papa C’s like, “This is a business, fool.”

rebelde87001

I will say, this Luca/Sonia/Papa C drama is giving us some good expressions on Papa C’s part.

Tomás frets that Fernanda must be plotting against him for breaking up with her. Just then, she rocks up and drags Guido off, and Tomás is like, “It must be for her revenge!”

Sonia tells Mia that she’d love to teach the dance group, but she’s super busy right now, so Mia will have to go to the gym and get the music ready and all that stuff. Mia’s like, “Anything for you, Sonia!” and scampers off. When she gets there, though, Manuel is there! Then Sonia turns down the lights and locks them in. Hee. She shoves a note under the door that’s like, “I ship you guys so hard! Stop fighting and get back together again!”

rebelde94201

They look like they might be considering it, but then Papa C rocks in and says he’s here to see Manuel. Probably going to ask this 17-year-old to save his illustrious fashion business. Mia gets all snippy and flounces out, and Papa C’s like, “Are you guys fighting again?”

Feli announces to the girls that they’ve all made it into her dance group. “Even me?” Vico asks. Heh, Vico knows what she did. Nevertheless, they’re all happy and nobody’s fighting anymore. Vico kind of apologizes to Feli, and they’re mildly cute together. Then Augusto shows up, and Vico sticks up for her (“Can’t you see she’s busy?”) but Feli’s all dickmatized and lets Augusto drag her off.

Nico tells Mia that Pablo’s left the band, and Mia’s like, “Ugh, of course it’s Marizza’s fault for making out with him in front of his girlfriend.” Nico’s like, “My God, that’s it! She must have made him leave because of Marizza!” Hee! I love how that somehow never occurred to Nico. Nevertheless, I love him and Mia hanging out. They’re the closest thing this school has to Nancy Drew and a Hardy Boy.

rebelde03201

Solving crime and making shitty early 2000s pop music before dinnertime.

Marizza swings by and they’re like, “Dude, you fucked up the band!” Marizza’s like, “What, is this my fault now?” “Yes,” Nico and Mia both say. Heh. Marizza snaps that she’ll make Pablo come back and stomps off.

Mansilla comes into the teachers’ lounge looking for Hilda, and the econ teacher snarks that he doesn’t know where she is, and he doesn’t have time to play detective. Back off, econ teacher! Nico and Mia work hard to solve crime! Then Renata comes storming in and asks, “Can you explain what this is?” “Uh, it’s the teachers’ lounge. Are you okay?” Mansilla asks. Oh, Mansilla. Renata hands him a memo from the students, saying they can’t do their homework because she’s such a shit teacher. And Mansilla’s signed it! Oh, Mansilla. She’s like, “Why are you encouraging these kids and their shitty behavior?” and Mansilla’s like, “Because I enable them in all things they do, and also I hate you.” He flounces out, and Renata bitters that she can’t stand him. Econ teacher takes off his glasses and beams: “Welcome to the club.” HEE!

rebelde05901

We have like three minutes left, and just as many scenes still to get through. Sonia comes back to tell Pepa that Nacho’s skipped town, but Pepa won’t let her get a word in. I’m sure they won’t show the conversation and just cut to Pepa’s reaction next episode. Let’s move on.

The Society brings Marcos to the basement, and tell him that he didn’t fulfill his last task (to find the person messing with the Society), and he says that he has: it’s Lujan Linares! Why you gotta be like this, Marcos.

Marizza finds Pablo in the sad trailer, being emo with his guitar. She snaps that she wants to know if it’s his fault that he’s “leaving Erreway.” Wait, have they already started calling the band Erreway? When did that happen? I wanted to see them decide on that! Like, were they like, “Well, it’s already the name of our show, so why not?” Pablo’s all like, “I can’t lose Paula, I love her, blah blah blah.” Marizza suggests that Pablo just tell Paula he’s leaving the band, but he won’t actually do it, and Pablo’s like, “Our love is pure, we have no secrets from each other!” Marizza’s like, “Au contraire, she is keeping some major secrets from you.” Dun dun dun!
