Rebelde Way 1×070: Let’s Run Away From Our Problems

I love how now that the show’s getting interesting, the episodes are suddenly becoming shorter. This episode and the past few were only like 40 minutes.

Opening monologue: We can’t close our eyes to betrayal; we have to learn to be strong and stand alone when someone betrays us. Mostly pertinent to Marizza and Mia’s storylines.

We pick up where we left off. Marizza’s just found out that in the literally two weeks since she’s been gone, Pablo’s hooked up with someone else. She’s naturally pretty pissed, but Pablo is all defensive of Paula and wants to fight for her right to stay in the sad trailer. Marizza pulls Pablo over the side and hisses that the trailer was THEIR secret, and how could he break their promise like this? Aw. She’s rightly hurt, and Pablo’s being a total dick about this. Eventually, Pablo recalls that no one’s ever actually won a fight with Marizza, and he hauls Paula out of there. Lujan and Luna are like, “All right, time to stay up late and party hard!” but Marizza shoos them back to the school so she can be alone and cry. Aww, Marizza! I’m legitimately sad for her 🙁 Not cool, Pablo, NOT COOL AT ALL.

Speaking of crying girls, Mia’s still in the depths of despair over Mama C. She wails that Papa C’s been lying to her, and she’s been a fool this whole time. Guido tells her that she’s not an idiot, and he’s pretty genuinely comforting. What do I do in this weird world where Guido’s not a total penishead? Mia thanks him for helping her, and then she kisses him. No, Mia! Kissing boys just because they help you on your detective adventures never leads anywhere good. Just look at Nancy Drew and Frank Hardy.

Being that Marizza kicked them out of the sad trailer, Pablo puts Paula up in Facundo’s room. Where is Facundo? I don’t know. Probably out buying up all the leather pants before we collectively came to our senses and put them out of style. Paula asks what’s up with Marizza, and Pablo’s like, “Whatever, my ex-girlfriend is crazy, man,” and says that they always fight because they hate each other. Paula’s like, “Really, it looked more like you’ve been having sexual tension since episode 20 and just broke up to me.” Pablo’s like, “…that is very specific. Also no, we hate each other FOR REAL.” They hate each other so much that Marizza’s crying in the sad trailer while flashbacking over all the times they made out. Man, Pablo is doing her so wrong. Also, if I were Facundo, I’d burn my sheets after Pablo and Paula spent the night there.

The next day. Wacky scene of Manuel and Marcos trying to wake up Nico, and Nico talking about Luna in his sleep. It’s kind of cute, especially since we don’t get to see Marcos joke around much. Nico’s all defensive over his lady love, and is like, “Manuel doesn’t have any room to talk, he’s seeing Fernanda on the side!” Manuel denies it, and says he’s hanging out with Fernanda because of a “thing with Mia.” “What now?” Nico asks. Hee. He’s totally onto Manuel.

Pablo’s room. Pablo’s all like, “How dare Marizza not like my new girlfriend! I must get revenge on her for kicking Paula out!” Guido’s like, “Dude, you’re being kind of a dick about this whole thing.” Then Tomás is all like, “Hello, can we talk about me? Mansilla’s going to kill me if I don’t come clean to Lulu.” Guido says that Tomás should suck it up and tell her the truth, and then run away really fast before she gets mad. I can’t believe I’m living in a world where Guido is the voice of reason. Then Pablo ruins it and is like, “Nah man, you should tell her the truth and then make out with her, it totally worked for me and Paula.” They’re all like, “Excellent plan!”, not taking into account that Lulu’s not nearly as full of self-loathing as Paula. Tomás remembers that Mia said Fernanda was voted best kisser, and decides to go practice on her.

…my God, I think Guido is actually the most likable member of this trio right now. What is happening?

Sonia gets a call from Papa Spirito that Marizza’s headed back to Argentina, and she starts panicking that she has to call Interpol and the FBI. Then Marizza pops up in the doorway and they all have a heartwarming reunion. Kind of. They understandably don’t really want Pepa in there.

rebelde44001

“Nobody wants your incompetent ass in our group hug, Pepa!”

Having found a new way to justify his Mia-stalking obsession, Manuel sets off to find her and yell at her for being mean to Fernanda. Instead, he runs into Feli, who shows him a letter from Mia. She’s run away! And not in a Corrs way, either. Her letter is predictably dramatic, all about how the truth hurts and don’t bother looking for her because she’s never coming back ever. Manuel’s like, “No way, I am a professional stalker, I will find her for sure.” He asks Sandra to give him permission to leave the school and look for her, and Sandra’s like no way, but then Blas comes into the cafeteria and is a dick to everyone about getting to class on time, and Sandra’s like, “Nvm, you should totally leave just to fuck with him.” She tricks Gloria into signing the slip, since Dunoff is away, and Manuel runs off to go find that girl he totally doesn’t like at all, no one bit.

Tomás approaches Fernanda by asking her to give him some tips on his hair. Hee! I love how this is a normal way to open a conversation for these kids.

Classroom. Hilda’s gone on a random tangent about Napoleon Bonaparte’s love life, and how he had to divorce Josephine because she couldn’t give him sons. “Sometimes you have to renounce things you love for a more important goal,” she says. Feli snickers to Vico that something like that probably happened to Hilda. I only bring this up in case it’s important in 100 episoes. Anyway, Blas storms in and starts yelling at everyone that they need to find Mia Colucci, NOW, because school’s no fun if he can’t perv on her! He hauls Feli and Vico off to the principal’s office, and both of them deny knowledge. Blas believes Feli, but he gets up in Vico’s face about how she’s lying and he’s going to keep her in the office until she confesses, even if it takes the rest of the school year! Vico’s like, “Can I have two minutes to go to the bathroom?” “No!” Blas barks. You know, Blas’s impotent grabs for power would be funny if he weren’t so damn creepy.

Casa Colucci. Mercedes is on the phone with Papa C, comforting him as he flips out about Mia’s disappearance. She promises to stay at the house in case Mia goes there, and comforts him that of COURSE she’s just as worried about Mia as he is. (Insert evil laugh here, etc.) Wait, was this Mercedes’s plan? Did she like…know that Mia would run away if Mercedes told her the truth? It’s not clear. Anyway, Mercedes is like, “Gosh, I am sad over this,” and Peter eyes her suspiciously. Peter knows what’s up.

Back at the theater, Marizza tells Sonia and Pepa about her hunger strike, and they go out to eat. Sonia has to stay behind for a few minutes, though, for contrivance purposes, and also probably to put her boobs back in her shirt.

rebelde67201

It actually looks kind of painful, honestly.

Someone knocks at the door, and Sonia’s all, “YOU?!” It’s meant to be a cliffhanger, but it’s so obviously Mia. And it is. Mia asks if what Mercedes told her was true, and Sonia confirms. Mia cries that her whole life is a LIE, and she’s been a fool, etc. Sonia’s like, “No way, you’re not stupid. I know because you remind me of myself, and I’M not dumb.” Heh. Oh, Sonia. She tells Mia about how her parents lied to her too, and comforts her a little. They’re interrupted by Marizza knocking on the door, and Sonia panics and has to hide Mia, because she knows Marizza is incapable of handling Mia’s presence maturely, even when Mia’s in obvious emotional distress. God love her. Marizza comes storming in and fumes that she doesn’t want to go back to school, with that IDIOT Pablo and that OTHER IDIOT Mia. Mia gets offended and throws something at her from her hiding spot. Sonia hustles Marizza out, but Marizza is suspicious.

Everyone convenes in Dunoff’s office to discuss Mia’s disappearance. Blas pins the blame on Gloria for not noticing Mia didn’t have permission to leave, and Gloria’s like, “Hey, I know you don’t do any work around here, but I am STRESSED.” And then somehow it’s Sandra’s fault for giving her permission? I thought Sandra signed Manuel’s thing (and tricked Gloria into signing it too), not Mia’s. Whatever. Blas is all threateny, as that’s the only way he knows how to be, and Mansilla comes in and is like, “Oookay I’m gonna take this investigation away from Blas and his creepy face.”

Fernanda tells Tomás she has something to show him under the stairs, and she gets UP on him. Dang, Fernanda.

rebelde116001

He’s like, “Whoa, you CAN kiss. Alright, thanks Fernanda, bye!” He runs off to go find Lulu, and Fernanda’s like, “What?” Aw, poor Fernanda. It’s not you, Tomás is just not the sharpest crayon in the box.

Guido, Luna, Lujan, Nico, and Feli (Clue Crew 3.0?) discuss Blas’s bizarro behavior, and how he’s basically holding Vico hostage. They’re all like, “But why male models?” until Lujan points out that Vico is a scholarship student and Feli isn’t. (You’d think Nico and Luna, who were part of Lujan’s protest, would remember that.) She runs off and I guess Vico got that bathroom break, because they meet up in the bathroom. Aw, I kind of miss hanging with my friends in the bathroom. That was our PLACE in middle school. We used to stand on the toilets and talk to each other over the tops of the stalls. It was a magical time. Anyway, Vico’s all upset and she snaps that she wants to kill Blas, and Lujan’s like, “Alright, violence! I can get behind that!” She tells Vico that they can take Blas down — Lujan already knows that Blas Heredia isn’t his real name. They shake on it.

rebelde127301

Mansilla calls Sonia, because he somehow knows that she’s up on Mia’s whereabouts. Marizza eavesdrops on their conversation and realizes Mia’s hiding out in the dressing room. “Marizza! You’re back! It’s so good to see you!” Mia chirps when Marizza discovers her. HEE!

rebelde132901

How can anyone NOT love her?

Typically, Mia and Marizza start fighting. Sonia runs in and tries to intervene, and explains to Marizza that Mia’s going through some legit problems. Marizza’s like, “The two people I love most have stabbed me in the back!” Man, I hope that second person isn’t Pablo. You’re better than that, Marizza! Marizza storms out, but Sonia tells Mia that she knows her daughter and everything will be fine. Mia sniffles that she wishes she had a mom who knew her as well as Sonia knows Marizza. Aw!

“Te soñé” plays as Manuel wanders all over town looking for Mia. He has absolutely no luck; on the other hand, Mansilla finds him in about five minutes.

rebelde134601

Maybe Mansilla has some kind of Distressed Teenager Radar.

Mansilla has to tell Manuel where Mia is. Man, Manuel’s stalking game is off today. He asks why Manuel wants to find her so bad, and Manuel waffles on about how ~THE STREETS~ are dangerous and anything could happen to her and she’s a distressed fragile flower, but it’s not like Manuel likes her or anything. “You’re very worried about someone you hate,” Mansilla observes. He says that even though it’s supposed to be a secret, he’ll tell Manuel where Mia is, because Manuel is the only one who can bring her back. I guess through the power of his beer-flavored nipples, or whatever he’s got that makes girls constantly bend to his will.

Random pervy shot of Lulu doing stretches in her chair. Tomás comes in and he’s all, “Lulu, ’twas I who sent you that letter!” Then he lays one on her and runs away. Everyone’s doing a lot of running away in this episode. Lulu, God bless her, has the grace to be grossed out by a student macking on her. Why is everything going wrong for her? Uh oh, Lulu’s in trouble, and you know what this means. There’s only one person in school who can fix everyone’s problems, and it’s Santiago Mansilla! DUN DUN DUN. When Mansilla comes back to the school (he immediately says “Don’t hit me”, heh), she tells him what’s up and invites him to lunch to work things out. Aw! And again, how do these two not hook up?

Marizza goes stomping angrily through the park, and runs into Facundo, who has somehow made his appearance worse by growing a goatee. Marizza goes off with him despite that, such is her distress. So not only did Pablo make Marizza cry, but he’s responsible for her going off with a goatee’d Facundo. This cannot stand.

Tomás is so embarrassed over Lulu’s rejection that he’s trying to hide out in the cupboard under the stairs. Pablo and Guido are trying to drag him out, when Fernanda rocks up and is like, “Tomás! Why did you run away from your girlfriend?” All three of them are like, “WHAT.” “Didn’t you tell them we’re dating?” Fernanda asks.

rebelde160401

My thoughts exactly, Guido.

Manuel finds Mia crying in Sonia’s dressing room. As usual he’s like, “You’re so hot when you’re emotionally fragile.” Mia hugs him and he tells her, “Insult me or hit me, just please don’t cry.” Aw, that’s kind of sweet, for Manuel. But despite his thing for crying girls, Mia kisses him first. She’s kind of just kissing every guy who’s nice to her in this episode, isn’t she?
