Rebelde Way 1×052: What Is This Feeling?

Previously on Rebelde Way: Pablo’s been disappearing for whole episodes at a time (he’s not in this episode either), so Marizza’s gone ahead and gotten herself another love interest, who might be wearing leather pants. Yikes. Speaking of love interests, Manuel started hooking up with some fifth year girl, who wasn’t put off by him ranting about Mia constantly, even though she should’ve been. Joaquin was like, “Dang, I really miss cheating on my girlfriend” and Vico was like, “Dang, I really miss being the other woman”, and they hooked up.

So I was all ready to be like, “Oh good, another 50 minute episode where nothing happens. I never get tired of watching these!” This episode, though, is actually…not that bad? I mean, it’s no episode 20 (the standard of plot progression I measure all episodes against), but there’s some development in the plot and the characters don’t just repeat the same conversations with each other over and over. Let’s go forth!

Another cold open, with Sonia’s dramatic phone call with Marizza’s dad. And now to cut to our upbeat theme song! Opening monologue: I don’t always know what I need, but it’s important for me to be with you. Or something.

Luna, Nico, Marizza, and Flor are all hanging out watching a horror movie together. Luna, Flor, and Nico are all scared, but Marizza just laughs and laughs. She WOULD think torture is hilarious. Luna’s mom (“Teresa”) pokes her head in and is all, “Luna? Having fun? HOW DARE!” Sandra runs up and gets in her face for encroaching on Luna’s privacy, which really just makes me wonder when on earth Sandra got there. Who’s gonna serve food to the kids who stay behind for the weekend? Does Cata just not ever get to go home? Anyway, Sandra tells Mama Luna that Luna’s growing up and has her own life away from home; she has friends, and possibly even “a boy who’s more than a friend.” Mama Luna’s like, “What could that possibly mean?” and Sandra like, has to spell out “LUNA HAS A BOYFRIEND” in big blinking letters for her.

Meanwhile, Mia’s in bed, all emo over Manuel and Julieta. Manuel shows up, although he at least knocks before barging in this time. He tells her that he wants to explain why he lied to her about Papa C wanting him to tag along to the mall (yikes, that’s a mouthful), but she’s just like, “Whatever…nothing matters to me anymore…not ever since we added yet another person to our obscenely large cast…” Manuel’s like, “Holy shit, are you sick or something?” Mia sniffles that EVERYTHING’S FINE, SHE’S PERFECTLY FINE, and she’s also sorry for taking his CD. Manuel’s like, “What the fuck is going on here.”

rebelde06801

I will say, I think one of the reasons this episode is so enjoyable is because Mia and Manuel get along somewhat. I mean, I like their arguing as much as anyone, and it’s given us some good lines, but it’s nice that their relationship is moving forward a little, and they’re actually pretty cute when they’re not fighting.

We roll into the dark office to see Mama Dunoff sitting at Gloria’s desk, reading something. The music creeps along all, “OOOOooOOH, what could she be doing in the school her husband runs?!?!” Dunoff finds her, and she brings up Joaquin to him. She thinks perhaps Joaquin is shady, since her piece on the side suggested it, and Dunoff’s like, “Impossible! His uncle is bribing me with hella money!” Mama Dunoff’s like, “Oh, well if there’s MONEY.” They hug over their mutual love of pesos, but Mama D still looks a little perturbed. That could just be because Dunoff is wearing jeans again, though.

The Vico/Joaquin/Pilar triangle walks into the not-library. From the looks of the lighting, and the previous scene in Dunoff’s office, I’m going to assume it’s evening by now. Pilar asks Joaquin if he’ll walk her back to her dorm, and he’s like, “Nah man.” Nevertheless, Pilar squeals to Vico how she never thought she and Joaquin would end up together, but she’s truly in love with his shady drug-dealing ways now. Vico’s like, “So you really like Joaquin? Can’t wait to wreck your relationship!” Not in so many words. Pilar goes back to her room, and Joaquin sneaks back in and makes out with Vico.

Augusto brings Feli back to their school, and she looks quite cute, if not a little bizarrely fancy for a work party. She’s got like, a sparkly dress with a wrap on. Anyway, Augusto tells her that he wants to see her again, and Feli swoons. It’s pretty cute on her end, actually. But stop creeping on high school girls, Augusto!

In Luna’s room, Nico’s fallen asleep during the movie, so Marizza’s draped a pink boa around his neck and is putting stuff in his hair. Flor has a hearty chuckle over this, which I guess we’re supposed to think is cute. Marizza’s phone rings and Luna picks up, and Sonia’s all in hysterics. She refuses to tell Luna why she’s calling, though, and wails at her not to tell Marizza that she called. Luna’s like, “K.”

Back in Mia’s room, Feli unloads all the details of her date with Augusto. Apparently they danced, and this launches Mia into a whole dream sequence about dancing with Manuel. Luisana Lopilato looks really cute with wavy hair, by the by:

rebelde26901

Anyway, they dance amongst a bunch of couples, including what looks like Vico and Tomás, Douchebag Diego and Belen, and Fernanda and Some Rando. What did Vico and Tomás do to end up with all these tertiary characters? Anyway, fantasy!Manuel kisses her, and Mia gets all twitterpated. When she comes back to reality, Feli’s all, “And the food was amazing!” Oh, Feli. Mia asks what happened after Augusto kissed her, and Feli’s like, “He didn’t, are you listening?” and Mia’s like, “No, I’m fantasizing about making out with Manuel, keep up.” Just kidding. Feli tells Mia that Augusto kissed her on the cheek and Mia’s like, yikes.

Nico wakes up and realizes he overslept and missed his meeting with Tatiana. He runs back to the club, and Papa Tatiana is mad pissed at him. He’s like, “My daughter WAITED for you, and you played games with her heart!!!” Maybe everyone should stop relying on Nico to feel the same way about Tatiana that he did when he was TWELVE, I’m just saying. Anyway, Papa Tatiana’s like, “Look, if you’re not serious about my daughter, tell me now before this goes any further.” Nico’s like, “…this is awkward. Okay, yeah, I totally love her.” Dammit, Nico!

The next day. Flor wakes up and is magically not disabled enough to move her legs and throw stuff at Marizza to wake her up. To be fair, I would also overcome my physical limitations in order to throw stuff at Marizza. Marizza starts tickling her, and Flor shrieks with laughter. So she can make noise now, too? Remember when she was too sick to show any kind of emotion at all when Luna talked to her? Seriously, what exactly is wrong with Flor? Just kidding, I know the answer is telenovelaneosis. Anyway, Mama Luna barges in at the sound of Flor screaming, and is all what are you doing!! Marizza, leading expert on childhood illnesses, says that Flor needs to be able to play, and then she wouldn’t be so sick. She’s all like, “I’m a main character, you gotta listen to me.” Mama Luna does not like that at all.

rebelde33901

Sandra hauls Mama Luna out into the hallway to fight away from the children, and Flor curls sadly back up on her bed. Marizza’s like, “Oh, are you GIVING UP? Because your mom is PSYCHOTIC?” Her browbeating works, and Flor struggles out of bed and walks over to Marizza and Luna. Sandra and Mama Luna run back in and everyone’s like, “Omg Marizza, you’re a miracle worker, they should make a movie about you.”

Pepa, Sonia, and Nacho all hang out at some cafe. Because, you know, I was definitely thinking that the one thing these episodes needed was more Nacho. Pepa’s acting all shifty about Papa Spirito’s phone call, and Nacho’s like, “You gotta tell me what’s up, I’m almost a main character.” Don’t overestimate yourself, Nacho. Sonia and Pepa actually talk quite seriously about the situation for five minutes, which is a nice although somewhat random shift in character for them.

Lounge. Feli’s hanging out while Mia does some dance moves with Fernanda and Random Amanda. They’re really into it, I guess because they gotta use every minute they spend with a main character for maximum effect. Manuel shows up, wearing the orange pants again. Why you gotta do me like this, Manuel? Mia’s wearing an orange top, and he’s like, “Oh hey, we match!” Mia’s like, “Whatever” and hurries off. Manuel’s like, “Whoa, she’s not doing our sexually frustrated banter thing. Could this be character development?” Feli’s like, “Idk, gotta go, bye.” Manuel’s confused, but then Julieta shows up and he’s distracted by his boner. You know, I don’t think the show has actually said that Julieta is Julieta yet, unless we were meant to take Feli’s offhand “Oh yeah I think that girl is Julieta” as confirmation of her identity. Which, knowing this show, is entirely possible.

Marizza’s room. Lujan is waiting on a response from her tutor about Blas, and is like, “Dang, this is stressful. Gotta lift weights to distract myself.” Never change, Lujan.

rebelde43101

She finally gets a response and her tutor’s just like, “You should be all tough from growing up in the orphanage, you can handle Blas yourself. I know I’m supposed to be taking care of you, but doing my job is hard. Bye.” I, for one, am very glad this person is in charge of a disadvantaged orphan teenager!

Manuel calls Papa C about Mia’s weird behavior and is like, “Yo Franco, usually I have all this belligerent sexual tension with your daughter, but she’s being all emo now, what’s up with that?…Yeah, I’m stalking her as usual, I don’t know what could’ve caused it.” Heh. Over at their hotel-resort-thing, Papa C tells Mercedes that he has to leave their vacation early to check on Mia. Mercedes is like, “I cannot BELIEVE you have to like, take care of your child.” Then she covers and says she’d like to meet Mia, and Papa C’s like, “Whoops, maybe I shouldn’t have lied to her about dating you.”

Luna’s house. Luna’s all happy that Marizza’s verbal abuse has cured Flor of her mysterious illness, but Mama Luna shuts her down with some emotional manipulation. She’s like, “You can’t have a boyfriend and care for your sister at the same time! I bet he’ll break up with you anyway!” Encouraging!

Pilar comes by Mia’s room with a gift for Vico. She’s cutely awkward and tells Vico that she doesn’t want Vico to feel like she doesn’t have any friends, because she can count on Pilar. She hands Vico the present and ducks out all embarrassed. Aw!

rebelde57801

Vico’s like, “Whoa, could this be guilt I’m feeling?” She decides to stand up for her new friendship with Pilar and break it off with Joaquin. Uteruses before duderuses! Then Joaquin drops off an ugly-ass watch for her and she’s like, “Nevermind.”

Feli finds Mia in the lounge, where she’s writing a song. Feli reads the lyrics and tells Mia that it’s sad, but really good. The song in question, by the way, is “Pretty Boy.” I wouldn’t call Manuel pretty, but you do you, Mia.

Back at the club, Nico fucks with Tatiana’s feelings some more. He tells her that he fell asleep and totally forgot about their date, and Tatiana says she’ll forgive him as long as he spends all of today with her. Nico’s a total pushover and agrees to her terms, which makes me think she totally undershot. She probably could’ve gotten a marriage proposal out of him with enough pressure.

rebelde63101

Facundo texts Marizza that he wants to meet up with her right now, but Marizza elects to ignore him so she won’t seem desperate. I’ve always thought playing hard to get was kind of stupid, but given how everyone else in this episode is acting the fool for one iota of attention from their love interests, I can’t really blame her for going too hard in the other direction. Meanwhile, Nico calls Luna’s house to tell her that he won’t be coming back to see her, but Mama Luna picks up and is like, “Woo, time to fuck my daughter’s relationship up!”

Manuel catches up to Mia in the hallway and she’s like, “Hey, can I please get by here.” He’s like, “PLEASE?? WHY ARE YOU BEING LIKE THIS??” He asks if she wants to hang out with him and his friends (does he mean like…Marcos?), and Mia’s like, “No, but thanks for asking.” Manuel’s like, “THANKS? WHAT IS YOUR DEAL.” Once again, he’s all like, “I must get to the bottom of this!!!” for like five minutes, then Julieta rocks up and he’s like, “Nvm, let’s make out.” Mia sadly watches from behind a pillar.

Luna’s house. Marizza gets ready to go back to school, and asks if Luna wants to hitch a ride with her. Luna says no, as she’s sure Nico’s coming back to see her. After all, he hasn’t called or anything to cancel on her! Oh, Mama Luna, I see you. In the hallway, Sonia comes to see Marizza, and Sandra gushes over how wonderful she is. She’s all like, “You have such a wonderful daughter! If I had a daughter that wonderful, I wouldn’t be able to live without her! It sure would be a pity if someone took her away!” Sonia bursts into tears and says that Papa Spirito wants to take Marizza with him…for a whole month! In the background, the dramatic music stops, and Sandra’s like, “A month? That’s basically a vacation, what’s your deal?”

In Luna’s room, Nacho runs in and sees Flor and he’s like, “Dang, you ugly.” Flor starts beating him up, and I’m not sure how to feel about it. I mean, I hate them both, so I don’t know who to root for here. Marizza’s like, “She’s violent just like me, I’m so proud!”

rebelde116801

On their way out, Nacho hints to Marizza that something’s up with Sonia, but won’t tell her what it is. When Marizza brings it up, Sonia snaps at her to get in the car.

Teachers’ lounge. Blas is staring at the teddy bear, wondering who could’ve given it to him. He’s all like, “Omg, a girl likes me!” It’d be funny if he weren’t such a creep. Mansilla comes in and notes that Blas hasn’t gone home for the weekend and Blas is like, “All the underage girls are here, yo.” Just kidding (barely).

Augusto and Feli go on another date. They skip through a park holding hands and shit, and at the end of the date, Augusto finally leans in to mack it with her. Feli’s almost into it, but then she has a hallucination that she’s actually with Manuel, and freaks out. Oh my God, is Feli still hung up on Manuel? Move on, girl!

Mama Dunoff approaches Pilar about Joaquin’s shadiness, but Pilar’s all like, “Joaquin changed my life! I loves him forever, and I definitely have never seen him deal drugs!” She tells Mama D that she and Dunoff were right, and Pilar and Joaquin really were meant2b. Pilar leaves and Dunoff comes in, and Mama D’s like, “Yeah…I’m pretty sure Joaquin’s a drug dealer.” Dunoff’s like, “Stop saying words.”

Lounge. Mia’s hanging out, casually exposing her midriff, as you do.

rebelde128201

I know this is the most comfortable way for me to read a magazine.

Guido rolls up and is like, “Yo, sexy can I,” and tries to boost Mia’s ego by telling her how hot she is, and how she brings all the boys to the yard with her weird stringy bangs. Seriously, Luisana Lopilato is cute and seems to have never gone through an awkward phase, but what was the DEAL with those bangs? Mia thanks him for being so nice, and chirps that she’s never really had a straight-up friend who’s a boy before. Guido might just be the first! Guido’s like, “Damn, I just wanted to get into her pants, not like actually deal with her as a person or anything.”

Lujan tells Marizza that she saw Blas get all twitterpated over the teddy bear, so they decide to escalate their pranking. Marizza sneaks into Mia’s room like the boundary-lacking weirdo she is and steals what…looks like some dice? I think it’s just weirdly-shaped perfume or something, but who knows. Anyway, they plant another note for Blas and he gets all dorkily excited. Again, it’d be cute if he wasn’t so pervy.

Nico never shows up to Luna’s house, and Mama Luna takes the opportunity to aggravate Luna’s martyr complex and guilt-trip her over choosing Nico and Elite Way over Flor. Luna cries.

Facundo comes to Elite Way and tells Marizza that he wanted to talk to her about leaving Erreway and joining his band. Just then, Manuel pops in and tells Marizza that they have practice, and Facundo’s like, “Are you with us or with them?” Well you’re not a main character, Facundo, so it’s not looking too good for you.

Papa C comes to see Mia and finds her in the lounge. He’s like, “I gotta talk to my daughter privately, can everyone clear out of this room?” Heh. He sits Mia down and starts to come clean about Mercedes. He tells Mia he wants her to meet someone and she’s like, “Aw hell no, tell me it’s not that lawyer.” Papa C’s like, “How do you know she’s a lawyer?” Oh, Mia.

Why did she creepily kiss her own hand sitting on the stairs?

this launches Mia into a whole dream sequence about dancing with Manuel.
The dresses weren`t so bad, but that dance. Sensuale.

Feli’s like, “Idk, gotta go, bye.” Manuel’s confused, but then Julieta shows up and he’s distracted by his boner.
The stare Feli gives them though, I missed crazy eyes.

I think it’s just weirdly-shaped perfume or something, but who knows.
My guess is it`s a hair tie.

I think she was just fantasizing about how romantic the night was, or whatever.

When will Feli get over Manuel? It’s been forever, girl, move on!
