Previously on Rebelde Way: Marizza found a clue hinting that Sonia and Mia didn’t exactly stop hanging out like Sonia promised. A bunch of characters who do not like each other banded together to help Tomás out with his drug problem. I guess they were also won over by his endearing dumbness and silly hair. Manuel tried to threaten Joaquin into turning himself in, but Joaquin knows better than to be scared by Manuel “Orange Pants” Aguirre and threw him under the bus instead. Then Nico got busted retrieving the drugs for Tomás. This detective thing isn’t really working out for him.
Opening monologue: I hate you, but I love you. ~*~I can’t stop thinking of you, it’s truuue~*~ Whoops, got carried away thinking of things that, like this show, were big in 2003.
Manuel has accompanied Mia and Feli on a shopping trip, so they’re all at the mall. Manuel’s giving Feli fashion advice, until a sales lady comes up and is like, “She’s too fat to shop here. You could try Sears.” Manuel’s all offended on Feli’s behalf, but she leaves the store without a fuss, and cheerfully tells Mia and Manuel that she’ll look elsewhere. The second they’re left alone, Mia starts flipping out on Manuel for bringing himself along on their shopping trip. See — and I don’t actually know if I remembered to recap this — Manuel, when he was pretending to bawl Mia out, ran into Mia for real and Blas was all like, “Manuel, do you have something to share with the class?”, and Manuel had to pretend that Papa C wanted him to tag along on Mia and Feli’s outing. Whew. This show is complex. Anyway, Mia convinces security to drag Manuel out of the mall. Oh, Mia.
Teachers’ lounge. Nico’s telling Mansilla all about how he threw himself on the pyre for Tomás and Mansilla’s like, “A+ martyr complex, that’s the kind of shit I like to see.”
Speaking of martyr complexes, let’s cut to the current reigning queen of them, and her friend who does not have one at all: Luna frets that Nico might have gotten in trouble for Tomás, while Marizza reams Pepa out on the phone and demands that she find out how Mia has pictures of Sonia. I’m not sure I would trust Pepa to pick up my laundry, much less do investigative work for me. Anyway, Luna squeals that she can’t stop thinking about Nico, even for just a second. We’re supposed to think that’s cute, I guess. She and Marizza wax on about the power of love and how it will totally overcome Nico’s family’s objections. I mean, their objections ARE going to be overcome, but it’s more through the power of teen telenovela writing than love. But that’s a minor quibble. Marizza says she’s never felt that way about anyone. Just then, Facundo calls to make sure they’re on for tomorrow, and Marizza gets all twitterpated. She and Luna do that stupid rip-off of Mia’s move, except after kissing their fingers, they wave their hands under their chins while going “EHHHH!!” It’s even stupider than it sounds.

Mansilla goes to Dunoff and tells him that he spends all day with Nico, Tomás, and Manuel; he feels sure that they’re not involved. Except…Tomás is involved, just obviously not the mastermind of this whole thing. Mansilla says he thinks the culprit is Joaquin, and once again, Dunoff tells him to back off so nobody will have to face actual consequences.
Music montage of Feli and Mia going around the mall, and every store shooting Feli down because she’s too fat. (“Skinny, skinny, skinny!” the soundtrack chirps away in the background.) Feli sighs in the food court that it’s her fault for being overweight, and Mia says that it’s the manufacturers’ fault for only making clothes for size zeros. “In the US, the latest fashions are for all sizes!” Mostly because we’re larger on average, but it’s a nice sentiment! Mia’s a good friend here. Still, it doesn’t occur to them to just like…go where Feli usually gets her clothes. They don’t gotta kill her self-esteem just for a white button-up.

The Clue Crew meets up again, and notices Blas eyeing them suspiciously. They mumblegrumble about him, until Cata rocks up with a bag in hand. Guido’s like, “Woo, I bring all the girls to the yard!” and Cata says that it’s actually for Manuel. Heh. Manuel’s like, “It’s a TRAP set by the Society!!!” and sets the bag away from him like he thinks it’s going to explode. Marizza sniffs that it’s probably from some girl who’s crazy about him, and then grins: “I just had an idea about how to mess with Blas.” She won’t tell them in the group, but later when she and Lujan are alone, Marizza says that it’s obvious that Blas has a (gross, illegal) thing for Mia. So the plan is to use his (creepy, inappropriate) thing for Mia to manipulate him into trying to get with her, and when his (weird, disturbing) thing for her is discovered by the school, they’ll fire him! I like how now Marizza’s deciding to care about statutory rape laws.
Speaking of! Blas rolls into the teachers’ lounge, looking even more smug and creepy than usual. He’s all like “TGIF” and Mansilla’s like, “You have tomorrow off? Is that any different from the lack of work you do during the week?” Just kidding, not that last part. Mansilla tells him to have a good weekend and heads out, and Blas goes to grab his briefcase. When he opens it, Manuel’s mystery bag is inside, this time with a new tag telling Blas the gift is from his secret admirer. (The gift, by the way, is a white teddy bear, like we need to know any more about Blas’s fixation on underage girls.) Blas is like, “Omg, could it be another naive teenage girl for me to be inappropriate with?”
Nico tells Luna that he and Erreway have to go the club early and figure out where the hell Pablo is, since as we all know, THERE MUST ALWAYS BE FOUR. And then after that, he’s going to go see his dad, as Papa Provenza is ready to be released from the clinic. Luna tells him she’s going to go visit Flor, and Nico’s all like, “How can I be apart from you for the whole weekend? IT’S PRACTICALLY AN ETERNITY.” My God, Nico, your dad nearly died, you could be more excited about seeing him. Anyway, they’re so emo about being apart for two whole days, that Nico frickin’ gives her his mother’s Star of David necklace, and Luna gives him hers. I bet Mama Provenza won’t like that.
Dunoff meets with the Joaquin’s uncle-slash-shady foundation guy over a game of golf, which we all know is the preferred game of rich guys who always seem to have some kind of allergy to denim. I remember they held a golf tournament near my house once, and for like two weeks the neighborhood was suddenly infested with middle-aged guys wearing khaki pants. It was disturbing. Anyway, Dunoff tries to delicately bring up the possibility that Joaquin might be taking pills, you know, not strictly legal ones, if you get my drift. “DRUGS?” gasps Joaquin’s uncle, clutching his pearls. Hee. He’s all like no, no, impossible! Joaquin is a good kid, an athlete! You know those athletes never do drugs. Joaquin’s uncle is like, “Anyway, let’s talk about how to misuse the foundation funds for our own ill-gotten ends!”
Lounge. Mia’s holding court with Feli and the tertiary girls. Vico walks up and asks if she can help with Feli’s date outfit. Mia snarks that they don’t need any of her help, and Vico sadly walks off to Pilar. Heh. I like how Pilar is the dumping ground for characters who don’t have any other friends. They chat about her plans, and Pilar says she’s going out with “Joaco”, because I guess she and Joaquin are on a nickname basis now. She says that he has friend, and Vico could come out on a double date with them. Vico gets way too excited about this. At least pretend you have something better to do than hang out with Pilar, girl!
Then Manuel comes in and drags Mia off to yell at her. He’s all like, “Getting me kicked out of the mall was THE WORST thing anyone’s ever done to me! You’ll regret getting me quietly escorted off the premises!” He’s about to get all violent, then Cata comes up with another gift for him. Manuel tells her to throw it away, and storms off. Mia takes the CD and reads the note, which from a secret admirer who’s in love with him and his violent ways. Another girl in love with Manuel? Is he releasing some kind of pheromone? We still haven’t ruled out the beer-flavored nipples.

Sonia also gets a gift from some businessman. I try to care.
Marizza sits on her bed while a voiceover of Luna repeats her whole spiel about what being in love with Nico feels like. Across the hall, Mia gets a replay of Manuel bawling her out for daring to ditch him at the mall. For some reason, this puts her in a romantic mood, and little pictures of Manuel and Pablo pop up around their heads while they try to bat them away. Could it be that Marizza has felt love before, possibly for her angsty guitar-playing secretly alcoholic classmate with a mafioso dad? It totally could.

Dunoff comes back to school and tells Mansilla that everything with Joaquin has been sorted out. He’s like, “I spoke to his uncle, and he and his money told me that Joaquin’s never done drugs.” Mansilla’s like, “At least three kids have told us he’s selling drugs in this school,” and Dunoff’s like, “Shhh, principaling is hard.” Pilar comes in and asks Dunoff if her curfew can be extended, as she’s going out with Joaquin tonight. Her top’s actually pretty cute, bizarre scrunches at the waist and sleeves aside.

Manuel comes into the cafeteria, and some random girl watches him. She looks super familiar, and I cannot for the life of me place her. Cata tells him that’s his secret admirer, and Manuel gets all twitterpated. For some reason, he thinks the best way to check her out is to put his face really close to Cata’s neck. Manuel is such a weirdo. Anyway, he rolls up to the girl and she suggests they listen to the CD she gave him together. Manuel’s like, “What CD?…aw, crap.” He enlists Cata to go get it from Mia. This is mildly smart on his part; I think a few episodes ago he would’ve just barged into her room and fought her for it. Character growth!
Mia and Luna are doing Feli’s hair and makeup for her date. Luna shows them Nico’s necklace, and they’re all like, “Omg, you swapped necklaces, you’re practically engaged!” Heh. Cata comes in and tells Mia that Manuel needs his CD back, as his secret admirer is here and she wants to listen to it with him. Oh, Cata, you’re so naive. Mia’s all like, “Manuel’s secret admirer is a GIRL who wants to DATE HIM? This will not stand!” Didn’t she read the note? Did she think one of his friends was waxing on about his eyes? Come on, Mia. Feli’s like, “Oh, I bet it’s that super cute fifth year girl we’ve never mentioned before, Julieta.” Mia’s like, “As if!”, but this show wouldn’t have bothered to mention her otherwise, so it’s totally Julieta.

Nico’s club. He pulls out Luna’s necklace and looks at it, and Tatiana rocks up and compliments him on it. See, I thought Luna was wearing a cross or something and it was going to lead to a dramatic confrontation, but I guess not. Papa Tatiana comes up and notes that Nico seems stressed and is like, “Oh, I bet I know what would totally make you un-stressed! I’ll let you and Tatiana go out on a date right after you visit your sick father! It will be totes romantic!”
Marizza catches Sonia visiting the school, and asks her why Mia has one of Sonia’s envelopes. Sonia tells Marizza that she’s helping Mia get dirt on Mercedes, and Marizza is all suspicious over why Sonia cares who Papa C dates. It’s nice how there’s something of a running thread in this episode with everyone getting worked up over who their designated love interest is dating, while simultaneously getting sidetracked by romantic false leads. It makes me think that the people who wrote this show occasionally took a break from throwing plots together at random and remembered their freshman year English lessons in literary devices. Anyway, Marizza tells Sonia that she’s going out with a friend of Pablo’s and Sonia’s like, “Oh right, occasionally I have to parent you,” and tells her that she can’t go out with someone Sonia doesn’t know. Marizza lies that Lujan and Luna are coming with them, and Sonia’s like, “Oh well that’s fine! Carry on!” Marizza hustles Sonia out of the school while “The Ketchup Song” kicks up in the background. Hee! The second Marizza’s out of sight, Sonia sneaks back into the school.
Cafeteria. Manuel and Julieta are still waiting for Mia to return the CD. “You know, I have plenty of good CDs in my room,” she smoothes at him. Giiiiirl. Manuel’s like, “Dang, I was not expecting to hook up in the middle of the afternoon at my high school, BUT ALRIGHT.” They run off just as Mia comes into the hallway with the CD. It’s well enough since she’s sidetracked by Sonia, who wants to know if Mia called Mercedes to bug her. Mia’s like, “Uh, no, that’s actually a little immature, even for me,” but Sonia’s like, “Peer pressure!” Mia says that she’s not worried, as Papa C is gone all week on a business trip. Sonia’s like, “Oh honey, wait until you grow up and hear that from men all the time.” Mia gives in and calls Mercedes’s number, and her secretary tells Mia that Mercedes is on a trip. She gives Mia another number, and Sonia’s like, “Do it, do it! Chug! Chug!” Mia calls the resort, and they confirm that Papa C and “the señora” are there. Mia and Sonia are all horrified. Lujan comes down to the main hall and sees them, and Sonia wants to know why she isn’t with Marizza. Lujan’s like, “Uh…gotta go.”
Pilar, Vico, Joaquin, and Joaquin’s friend are all out at some restaurant. Pilar leaves to go to the bathroom, and Joaquin makes up some BS excuse to get his friend to leave as well. He turns to Vico and is like, “Dude, it’s been ages since I’ve cheated with someone,” and Vico’s like, “I never get tired of being the other woman!”
Mansilla meets up with Mama D and is like, “Your daughter is dating a drug dealer jsyk.”
Marizza heads off to Facundo’s band practice and air guitars around the room while they play. I can’t make sense of this scene. I don’t know if we’re supposed to think they’re good, and if Marizza’s being cute, and if they’re annoyed by her or not…I don’t know. It’s weird. I guess, in order: not really (Marizza hesitates a little when Facundo asks if she liked it), yes (Facundo asks her out), probably not (otherwise he wouldn’t have asked her, I don’t think). Also, I must mention that it looks like Facundo is wearing leather pants here. Don’t go there, Marizza. She agrees to go out for a drink with him, but he wants to know if she and Pablo are going out first. Marizza says that they had history, but there’s nothing between them now. Facundo’s like, “Aw yis.”

Mia finally gets her butt to the cafeteria and hands the CD over to Cata. She tries to get all the details about Julieta out of Cata: what does she look like? What brand of clothes? What kind of perfume? What’s her name? “I don’t know, but her perfume smells like flowers,” Cata offers. “DO I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING AROUND HERE?” Mia wails. Heh. She runs around looking for Manuel, and finally hears him and Julieta talking in the cupboard under the stairs. Julieta is trying to badmouth Feli and Vico, but Manuel defends them. He’s totally willing to badmouth Mia though, and babbles on about how spoiled and immature she is while macking on Julieta. Julieta isn’t weirded out by this at all, for some reason. Mia lies on the stairs listening to this and cries. Wow, those are some thin stairs.
Back at Luna’s house, she tells Flor all about her boyfriend — “We’re in love, even though he’s going out with another girl!” she chirps. Flor gives her a look like, “Dude, I’m ten years old and have never left the house, and even I know this is bad.” Luna grumbles that she already knows; Marizza’s gone over this with her. Flor makes a face and Luna’s like, “What, you don’t like Marizza? Why not?” Maybe because the last time Flor met Marizza, she dragged Flor out of bed and tried to make her walk. Then Luna’s mom comes in and snips that Luna has a visitor. It’s Nico, and he plays with Flor and is generally cute for a while. Then Marizza shows up and is like, “Oh btw, I’m sleeping over tonight.” Flor glares at her. I feel that, Flor.
Sonia’s dressing room. Papa Spirito (remember him? Man, it’s been ages) calls and tells Sonia something. “You can’t do that to Marizza!” she wails.
