Rebelde Way 1×048: Toda La Onda

Previously on Rebelde Way: Joaquin’s drug trade finally got busted, which you’d think wouldn’t have taken so long given his penchant for passing out drugs in front of God and everybody, but whatever. Naturally, he immediately pinned the blame on poor dumb Tomás. Vico told Feli that Mia set her up with Augusto and now Feli is way pissed. And Luna and Nico got back together for like the fourth time after he agreed to stay at Elite Way, then his mom was like, “Actually, you gotta leave or I’ll disown you.” It was even less dramatic than it sounds.

Bizarrely, we get the credits for Catherine Fulop (Sonia) and Fernán Mirás (Mansilla), before going into Joaquin selling Tomás out, and then cutting back to the regular credits. That was weird. Also weird is the necklace Joaquin is wearing here. Was he always rocking that?

It’s so early 2000s I don’t know what to do with myself.

Opening monologue: Friendship has no price and we will be friends 4eva! This has like nothing to do with anything in this episode except maybe like five minutes near the end.

Mia’s room. Feli wakes up to Mia hanging an alarm clock over her head (hee) and demanding to know what prompted Feli’s freakout last episode. Feli’s like, “That would require talking to you, which I am NEVER DOING EVER AGAIN.” She storms off, and I gotta point out that she still has a picture Manuel up on the wall over her bed. Jesus, Feli. Anyway, Mia wails that doesn’t know what Feli’s deal is, and Vico’s like, “Marizza is totally trying to turn her against you and it’s totally working. Duh.” Oh, Vico.

Cafeteria. Sandra sits Luna down and asks what’s up with her and Nico. Luna tells Sandra that she lied to them about Nico; they wouldn’t let her deal with things in her own, non-violent way, and she couldn’t get through a conversation about him without someone offering to beat him up for her. Heh. Not untrue. Luna naives that she and Nico are in love for real, and he’s only still hanging with Tatiana for pure and noble reasons. Somehow, Sandra refrains from calling her a sweet summer child.

Mansilla arranges a parent-teacher conference with Tomás’s parents and Dunoff, and Gloria’s all appalled that he’s arranging Dunoff’s schedule without her permission. HA! Oh, Gloria.

Marizza catches Feli crying in the bathroom and drags her off to comfort her. Mia and Vico see Feli go into Marizza’s room, and Mia’s all appalled. “She practically kidnapped her!” she wails. Meanwhile, Feli protests that she doesn’t want to get all violent, but Marizza’s like, “That’s how we do around here, so you are going to take out your anger on these pillows, and you are going to LIKE IT.” Feli punches some pillows and starts crying to Marizza that Mia went behind her back and set her up with a guy again, even though they totally had an emotional talk about it like ten episodes ago. Marizza, surprisingly, is suspicious: she’s all like, “Hold up, do you even trust your source on this?” Feli’s like, “No, but I’m believing her anyway because of reasons.”

Manuel’s room. He’s berating Nico over punking out of school, because if Nico gives up then the bullies win, blah blah we’ve had this conversation a million times before blah. Nico wails that he has a responsibility to his family, and Manuel’s like, “Wrong! Your responsibility is to be on this telenovela!” and storms off all disgusted with him. The camera weirdly pans around to Marcos just sitting in the foreground.

Teachers’ lounge. Dunoff walks in to find Hilda helping Mansilla with his filing and is all pissy because she’s supposed to be suspended. Mansilla tells him that Hilda’s doing some secretary work for him. She’s basically his Gloria! Anyway, Dunoff snarls at Mansilla that he doesn’t want Tomás’s parents coming to visit; in fact he doesn’t want parents in the school at all! How is he planning to have parent-teacher conferences? Do they have those in Argentina? I know we stopped having them regularly after elementary school, unless there was a specific problem with the student (like, for example, dealing drugs). Whatever. Dunoff just wants to expel the kids involved and get it over with. Mansilla’s whole thing with due process is killing his vibe.

Classroom. Pablo still isn’t here, although this time he’s apparently gone off to ask a friend to make some music for the band. Mia shows up and gets up in Marizza’s face a little about Feli, but Marizza blows her off to look at the stuff Lujan stole from Blas. The man himself comes in, and starts blowing up at the class that someone has stolen his VERY IMPORTANT BRIEFCASE, which I’m sure contains important work papers like “Students I’m Going to be a Dick To This Quarter” and “Underage Girls to Harass Before Midterms.” He says he’s going to pat them all down (weird!) and sends Manuel off to get Gloria for the girls (WEIRD!). Lujan saves them from being felt up by Blas and throws the stolen papers on the floor. Blas is like, “Aha! ‘Twas you!”, but Marcos steps up and takes the blame. Damn, he’ll throw himself on the pyre for anyone, not just Marizza.

Papa C comes back to his office all twitterpated over hanging with Mercedes. He’s like, “Man, what if I had married her instead of running off to my doomed relationship with Mia’s mom?” If I were Mercedes, I’d still be a little mad over that, but that woman don’t love herself. Anyway, he tells Peter he’s going to take Mercedes on another date that night. Then Mia calls and is all like, “Hi Dad! I just wanted to make sure you weren’t dating that lawyer lady, because I know nothing about your relationship with her!” and he’s like, “Ah ha ha, I would never date her, as I promised you!” They both fake laugh and then Mia asks Peter to come to the school to see her.

Cafeteria. Lujan’s all confused as to why Marcos would martyr himself for her, and Luna’s like, “That’s just like what he does, have you met him.” Lujan leaves and Nico rolls up. He tells Luna that he’s changed his mind and he totally has to leave Elite Way now. Luna actually rolls her eyes at this, God love her:

rebelde64201

“I’m the biggest doormat to ever doormat, and even I think this is BS.”

Nico assures Luna that even if he’s punking out in this issue, he is going to break up with Tatiana for realz this time. Luna tells him to go for the reverse: he has to tell his mom he’s staying at Elite Way, but he should keep it up with Tatiana so he doesn’t lay his ~rebeldía~ on his family all at once. She’s like, “It won’t bother me at all!” Jesus Christ, Luna.

In the teachers’ lounge, Blas is trying to interrogate Marcos as to why he stole the briefcase. Marcos is like, “Idk, I guess I’m just a klepto!” Blas is like, “Wrong, you’re a nerd, I know my high school archetypes.” Lujan, watching this through the door, is all twitterpated that Marcos is throwing himself under the autobús for her. Marcos gulps, and then his face transforms into Feli’s. Yikes. That was not a good transition.

rebelde66701

Feli’s hiding out behind one of the buildings, crying and eating her feelings. Aw. I’ve been there too, Feli. Marizza finds her and tells her she doesn’t have to hide out while she eats. This would be a good time for Feli to be like, “I wouldn’t feel bad about eating if you weren’t always calling me fat,” but she doesn’t. Instead, she’s all like, “Omg Marizza, you’re such a good friend” and starts telling her all her life problems. Marizza’s like, “Revenge will totally make you feel better, it always works for me!” and sends a nasty text to Augusto and signs Feli’s name.

Tomás’s dad shows up to the office all ready for his parent-teacher conference. Gloria and Dunoff are all horrified that Mansilla didn’t cancel it, but Mansilla happily hustles Papa Tomás off to talk to him. He tries to hint around the subject all, Tomás is having problems, do you think he’s being weird because I think he’s being weird, does he seem different, possibly HIGH, because like…he might be having some issues like that. Possibly. Papa Tomás is like, yo, I send my son to boarding school specifically to avoid raising him. Mansilla’s all shocked that Papa Tomás doesn’t want his educator wisdom, and in fact Dunoff has to save the situation and invite Papa Tomás to his office for some ego-stroking. Mansilla’s like, “I fucked up with a parent and Dunoff had to help? This is crazytown.” In Dunoff’s office, Papa Tomás tells him that he knows Dunoff’s part of the shady foundation, and he wants in on their shenanigans. Dunoff sweatdrops, but accepts.

Marizza runs into Pablo’s friend (“Facundo”), who’s come to school to drop off a CD for Pablo. She’s immediately all up on him, and tells him that Pablo’s not back from his offscreen excuse yet, but she’d totally be happy to listen to his music. She drags him off to the sad trailer, and he plays the instrumental for “Sweet Baby” for her. How did this 15-year-old make a backing track already? And how did Erreway do those two performances without it? Whatever, I don’t care. Marizza strokes his ego and tells him she’d love to hear more of his jams, and he invites her out on Saturday.

rebelde263701

Pablo comes back to school and Guido’s like, “Dude, someone besides you is fucking with Tomás.” Pablo’s like, “How very dare!”, but says it has to wait, as he needs to get the CD from Facundo. Just then, Facundo rocks up and is like, “Oh hey, I already gave the CD to your friend. She’s like bangin by the way, we had toda la onda.” Pablo’s kind of like ooookay, but soldiers on and says they should hang out on Saturday. No can do, Facundo’s hooking up with Marizza on Saturday. “TODA. LA. ONDA,” he tells Pablo. Heh. Pablo is not pleased at all.

rebelde297001

He immediately runs off and tells Marizza she has to cancel with Facundo: does her and Pablo’s fake relationship not MEAN anything to her? Also, Facundo is his friend and that would be weird; plus he doesn’t want to go through the whole cheating girlfriend thing again. Marizza’s like FINE, but tells Lujan and Luna she’s not going to let Pablo dick her around.

Tomás runs up to Guido and is all, “Help me Guido, you’re my only hope!” Things must be dire indeed if Guido is anyone’s only hope. Tomás wails that Joaquin’s the one selling the drugs, but Tomás delivered them a couple of times for him. Oh, Tomás. Guido’s like “daaang you’re gonna be in hella trouble.” Helpful! Actually, he’s all ready to go beat up some drug dealers, but then Dunoff shows up and hauls Tomás off. Hilariously, Joaquin high-fives Dunoff as he passes.

Marizza yells at Mia for setting Feli up with Augusto, which Mia denies. Then Sonia shows up with newly dyed hair, and is like, “Marizza! I thought copying your hair color would help us bond!”

rebelde303301

Marizza’s not pleased, and Sonia sneaks off to gossip more about Mercedes with Mia. She gives her a background check or something that she ran on her (creepy!) and Mia squeals over possibly finding dirt on this woman.

Augusto comes to the school to see what’s up with Feli, and she snipes at him that she knows the truth and she’ll never go out with him ever. Augusto’s like, “No for real I actually like you” but Feli’s like, “And I never want to see you again!”

Science room. Lujan finds Marcos doing his homework or studying or whatever it is nerds do. She cutely tries to talk to him through the skeleton, then she tells him that she was the one who stole Blas’s stuff, not Marizza. Marcos is like, “Wow, would not have taken the blame if I’d known it was you.” Just kidding, but his face kind of implies it. Aw, poor Lujan. Papa Aguilar shows up and she scrams, and Marcos’s dad is all pissed that he had to come to school because of Marcos’s shenanigans. His drug addict brother never caused such problems! Marcos points out that it’s not like his mom cares, and Papa A says that he still does. Sadly, this makes Marcos happy, although from what we’ve seen Papa A’s caring mostly takes the form of emotionally dicking Marcos around.

Mia finds Feli eating her feelings in the cafeteria, and tells her that she didn’t set her and Augusto up. Marizza is a lying liar who’s trying to ruin their friendship! Feli’s like, “Well Vico was the one who told me that, but I’m still mad at you anyway.” Oh, Feli. Mia cutely tells her that even if Feli doesn’t believe her, it’s the truth and Feli shouldn’t miss out on a guy who really likes her. I mean, given that he’s creeping on high school girls, Feli probably dodged a bullet here anyway, but whatever. Mia tells Feli she deserves to be happy, and they hug. Aw!

Dunoff yells at Mansilla that he’ll handle the drug thing, but Mansilla makes one last ditch effort to talk to Tomás. It almost goes well, then Gloria swoops in to march Tomás off to the classroom, where Dunoff can humiliate him publicly. “This has never happened before!” Dunoff shrieks at the class. I guess like everyone, he’s just ignoring Marcos’s cokehead brother. Dunoff tells them that two students are going to be expelled for this. Tomás is obviously student one. Who could it be! In the back, Joaquin gulps. ~Cliffhanger~

Honestly, this episode was super boring, as were the past few. It looks like we’ve entered the “the same five plotlines get dragged out with no resolution” portion of the show again. Hopefully something actually happens next time? I won’t hold my breath though.
