Rebelde Way 1×042: Love Makes You Do the Wacky

Previously on Rebelde Way: Joaquin bought some more drugs in front of Pilar, and she is suspicious. Dunoff got involved in some shady deals at the school. And Feli punked out of the band, but it’s a good thing Mia’s standing right there.

We don’t start with the opening monologue! Instead, we pick up where we left off last episode, with Feli running off and everyone freaking out about what to do, before cutting to the credits. A cold open! Almost like this is a real TV show!

Opening monologue: “I don’t know what happens when you look at me. I’D DIE IF YOU LEFT ME.” Dude, chill out.

Mia runs off because she wants to haul ass back to school and find Feli, not to mention help out Vico. Manuel catches up to her and convinces her to come back, promising that Papa C won’t find out about it. Oh, but I bet he will. They go back to the club, where Sonia is stalling the crowd by making jokes about how hot she is. Everyone’s really into this, instead of being like, “Hella awkward.” The band — fuck it, I’m going to just start calling them Erreway even though they haven’t named themselves yet — does the same lip-synched version of “Sweet Baby.” At least they actually have two girls this time, and they actually manage to finish the song. The crowd goes crazy, and it cuts to Erreway having a drink and celebrating. Sonia squeals that she always knew Marizza was going to be a big star, and Tatiana’s father comes up and excitedly tells them that they’re gonna be famous. The club will be as famous as the one that launched the Beatles! Let’s not exaggerate, Papa Tatiana. Anyway, they congratulate themselves on a job well done and head back to school. So…did the club book them to just play one song, then?

Back at school, Vico’s douchey brother Augusto is back. Vico cries to him that the Society’s torn up all her clothes and she wants to go home, and he’s a total dick about it. He’s all, “Whatevs, I bet it was just a prank played by one of your little friends. Call me when you have a real problem.” What’s Vico’s family’s deal with her? Anyway, Vico shrieks that nobody understands her and runs up to her room. Then Feli comes in, all emo from leaving the band, and Augusto’s like, “Woo! A girl with low self-esteem to manipulate, my favorite kind!”

Meanwhile, Lujan’s playing pool and minding her own business when Blas rocks up. He needles her about her unfashionable clothes and her weird hobbies. A GIRL playing pool? Don’t their like, ovaries prevent them from understanding the rules? “I don’t like your style,” he tells her. What is he, the fashion police? Lujan’s like, “Dude, I don’t even know you.”

Some indeterminable amount of time later, Vico runs into Feli and Augusto in the hall. It’s implied they came back from having coffee somewhere or something? Anyway, Vico’s like, “Oooh, did you come back to actually help your sister out?” and he’s like, “No, I was hitting on your friend, bye.” Frickin’ Augusto. Vico gets all up in Feli’s face and snaps that if she wants to keep being Vico’s friend, she’ll back off Augusto. But like, were Vico and Feli ever friends in the first place?

Papa B calls Pablo at the club just to make sure he’s still gettin’ some, and Mama B’s like, “Dude, this is just weird.” Papa B goes on about how Marizza is rude and ~rebelde~, and Pablo probably can’t handle her. Heh. But he wants them to date because he thinks Marizza can teach Pablo how to not be such a punk ass all the time.

Mia finally gets back to the room, and sees Vico crying over all her ruined clothes. She’s all, “What do!!!” and Mia gently suggests that if she wants to get the Society off her back, she might have to break up with Manuel. I hope she does! I can’t get over how weird their relationship is!

Marizza’s room. She’s mad about Sonia, as usual. She needles Luna for bringing Sonia to the club in the first place all, “Why can’t you be more like Lujan, who is unfailingly loyal to me at all times?” Lujan doesn’t appreciate this praise, because she’s all pissed at Blas for dissing her style. Marizza’s like, “Ooh, you know what we haven’t had in a while? REVENGE!”

In Pablo’s room, he and Guido notice that Joaquin is twitching as he sleeps. What could be wrong with him? “Well, I did see him with Pilar,” Guido notes. Heh.

Mia finds Feli emoing on the stairs, and they talk it out. Mia says she just wanted to help Feli get over Manuel, and Feli tells Mia that she wants everyone to stop meddling in her life. Mia is kind of obnoxious about it (“Well, I was TRYING to help you!”), but they make up and decide that they’ll be in the band together, and Marizza can deal with it.

The next day. “Kama Sutra, Kama Sutra…” Guido muses as he looks through that one bookshelf in the school. HEE. Feli rocks up and burns the shit out of Guido all, “Yeah, it’s cool that you stood me up, I had coffee with this other guy and so I don’t rly want to date you anymore. Bye.” Guido runs off to Mia and is like, “Well, I’m free now, wanna hook up?” and Mia’s like, “Uh, the condition was that you take Feli out, so…no.” Pablo witnesses this and even he thinks it’s hilarious. Because it is. Denied, Guido!

Vico is still crying over her clothes, and Mia nicely offers to let Vico have some of hers. She’s genuinely sympathetic to Vico, and it’s quite sweet. God, I love Mia. Anyway, Vico cries that she doesn’t really want to go home; her entirely family hates her and Elite Way is her only hope to meet people and make connections to get her out of her neighborhood. Mia tells her that this crappy school can’t be her only hope; she has the power to change her own future by being ~rebelde! Besides, if she’s here to get a rich boyfriend, why’s she hanging around with Manuel? Could it be that even if he’s poor and gross and obnoxious and disgusting, she can’t help how she feels? Omg, that could totally be it! Vico squints at her and is like, “Are we talking about me or you?” Mia’s like, “…you. Obviously.” She leaves and Vico sadly walks around the room and kind of creepily starts picking up and touching all of Mia’s jewelry and perfumes.

Marizza, Luna, and Lujan hang around outside and see Blas pull up in a car that I guess is presumably fancy? They’re all suspicious as to how a glorified yard assistant has a car like that, but before they can discuss it, he rolls up to them and yells at them for daring to be outside, on school grounds, on a weekend. They can only be up to no good! He hustles them back inside and tells them that he wants an essay on why what they did was Bad and Wrong, or he’ll call their parents. (I’m just gonna spoil it now that I know he’s Lujan’s tutor. So like, is he going to call himself? It’s unclear.) Anyway, Mia rolls up and coos that she’d love to go outside and get some sun, and Blas is like, “Let me express my inappropriate interest in you by letting you go ahead!” GROSS. While she’s outside, some rando texts her and Mia tells him to meet her at the school. Why do all these kids completely lack stranger danger?

Vico breaks up with Manuel. She tells him that she has to get the Society off her back, and he’s like, “You know what would really be ~rebelde? Not breaking up with me.” Blah blah she can’t let them know they got to her, blah. Vico should really be dating Nico. I’d bet he’d understand punking out over the Society. Plus their names rhyme! Anyway, they break up.

Lujan tries to complain to Dunoff that Blas is a total dick, and he’s like, “Yeah, I don’t deal with school stuff on weekends. Or ever.” Then the phone rings and he’s like, “Woo! An excuse to get rid of a student!” and shoos Lujan out so he can talk. Whoever it is, Dunoff wants to know if he can go ahead with their ~plans. Ominous!

Feli find Manuel and they make up. She tells him too that she doesn’t want him meddling in her life, and Manuel’s like, “But meddling’s what I live for!” Just kidding. He tells her that he and Vico broke up and Feli is way too pleased about it. Manuel’s like, “…yeah.” Feli runs off to get some food, and Mia rolls up. She tells Manuel that she and Feli made up, and so she’s going to go out with the weirdo who texted her for a few hours. Manuel’s like, no can do, and he and Mia fight again, some more, about how he’s the supreme meddler in everyone else’s business. Mia storms off and Feli comes back with some Pepsi bottles. More product placement!

Marizza, Lujan, and Luna all head out to get their revenge on Blas, but he catches them. They BS that they need to get something from Sonia’s car, as she’s here to hover over Marizza all day again. Blas suspiciously only lets Marizza go, and she sneaks around the side of Sonia’s car to key the fuck out of Blas’s. HEE! Also, is that the Britney Spears cover of “I Love Rock and Roll” playing? Amazing. Back in Marizza’s room, Sonia is holding court with a bunch of the other girls. Marizza storms in and kicks them all out. Belen’s like, “Wow, your mom is way more fun than you.” Whatever, Belen, you’re like barely a character. Sonia cries to Marizza that she’s been hardcore stalking her because the doctor told her Marizza can’t be left alone on account of her panic attacks. Marizza finally gives up and is like, “Dude, I lied, that’s like what I do.” Sonia wails that Marizza doesn’t have to cover it up, because she’ll love Marizza no matter what. Marizza’s like, “OH MY GOD.”

Mia’s room. She squeals to Vico about how happy she is that Vico had the sense to dump Manuel, while Vico rolls her eyes:

Feli comes in with a book Augusto lent to her, and Vico gets all snippy over Feli dating her brother. I mean, to be fair, Augusto is kind of a dick, as we’ve seen. Anyway, Papa C shows up and Mia starts ranting about Manuel to him. As usual, it cuts away before we can see what exactly Mia tells him, because actually showing important conversations would deviate from this show’s M.O. of cutting away and then vaguely referencing them later. Whatever it was, it calls for a Colucci family meeting! Mia cries that Manuel dragged her to the nightclub, and Papa C is Very Disappointed in him. Manuel points out that Mia ran away from the fashion show in the first place, and Papa C is is Very Disappointed in her, too. Manuel escapes punishment yet again! Papa C tells Mia that she’s going to have to get used to him being around, because Manuel works for him now. Mia runs away dramatically.

(Also, Mia calls Manuel a “Chicano immigrant” in this scene, and has been calling him an Aztec monkey, illegal immigrant, etc, for most of this episode. I usually enjoy her digs against him, but they’re getting kind of racist?)

Pool table. Pablo brings Marizza a new song for the band, and she notices Sonia and Papa B have both shown up. She’s like, “Quick, kiss me like I’m your girlfriend!” God, I love how these two think the solution to everything is just to start making out. They tell their respective parents that they fought so much because they’re in love, and now they’re dating for real! Sonia and Papa B are all pleased. Just then, Blas rocks up to try and accuse Marizza of keying his car, but both Sonia and Papa B step in to defend her. Dang, Blas, you really wanna mess with the Argentinian mafia? “Or I could be wrong,” he sweatdrops. “You totally could,” Sonia chirps. Hee!

Pilar meets Joaquin in the hallway and asks how he’s feeling, since he was all twitchy and weird yesterday. He tells her that he feels much better and he’s done with the pills for good. Pilar is all pleased and gives him a hug, and Joaquin takes the opportunity to drop his bag of drugs in her backpack. Why Pilar is carrying her backpack around on the weekend, I do not know.

Papa C and Sonia both leave the school at the same time, and nearly crash their cars in the parking lot. I think this is kind of Sonia’s fault, though, for literally going the wrong way down the street?

Nico, Manuel, Marizza, and Pablo all meet up to talk about the band. Nico gives them their paycheck and they agree to split half amongst themselves, and half to pay for band expenses. Pablo takes the check to handle the money. Then Mia and Feli roll up and say that they’ll both be in the band, and Nico’s like, “Were you not paying attention to the entirety of the last episode? There are FOUR people in the band. FOUR.” They decide to take a vote — Pablo immediately votes for Mia, and Marizza for Feli. Manuel is the tiebreaker! Dun dun dun~
