Rebelde Way 2×141: Woman Up

Previously on Rebelde Way: The whole school thinks Mia and Francisco are banging, which naturally does not go over well with Manuel and his creepy sense of ownership over his ex-girlfriend. He snipes at Francisco that he can’t trust him anymore and he and Mia can fuck wherever they want because they’re dead to Manuel! Literally who cares. Why would any of them want to be friends with Manuel? He’s a fucking eighteen year old repeating his junior year of high school.

Francisco goes to class and apologizes for being late. Miranda just hmmphs that he’s tardy, and then makes everyone stand when he calls their name for roll. Ooh, another power-tripping teacher! Just what this school needed! Fernanda tries to hit him up about life in Spain and brags about being related to nobility, but Miranda just snipes that he doesn’t answer personal questions. Then he gets to Pablo and asks, “Are you the mayor’s son?” “We also don’t answer personal questions,” Marizza snarks. HEE!

Papa C and Sonia are hanging out at the school, as you do. Sonia’s gushing about how brave it is of Mia to pretend to be banging Francisco to help Feli out. Papa C’s like, “There really has to be a better way for her to help her friend, but okay.” Then he gets a call from his assistant telling him that Papa B’s people didn’t find anything shady in Papa C’s business dealings — but now they want to dig into the house Papa C’s family owns in Italy. Papa C’s like, “Yikes!” and tells Sonia that his Italian family is a little sleeps with the fishes, if she gets his drift, because nowhere is safe from the “Italians are mafiosos” stereotype. God bless.

The kids draw an activity at random to decide how they’re going to rematch for the prize money, and naturally they draw soccer. This is so stupid. Why is anyone even entertaining this idea just to appease Guido’s boner? The girls should just take the money and run. Lujan’s like, “Whatever, we got this!” and Pilar’s like, “Half the girls have just left the room, but okay.” Vico runs back to report this to Mia and Feli, who are predictably unenthusiastic. I don’t know why Vico is so thrilled, either. Maybe Lujan is rubbing off on her.

Laura emos to Lujan and Marizza that she just can’t believe Lola’s mom doesn’t want anything to do with her. Marizza’s like, “Why don’t we call Lola’s mom and make her believe that Lola’s deathly sick? I bet that would make her visit!” Making someone believe that their long-lost child is dying is hilarious! Oh, Marizza, you card.

Miranda asks Michi for Pablo’s file, presumably because he’s thirsty for Papa B’s political connections. Michi hands it over because I love her but she’s only like, 5% better at taking care of these kids than everyone else here. Then she gets a call from the math teacher, saying that he’s ill and can’t come in. And by “ill” they mean, “This school hasn’t actually had a math teacher since that one guy Sol tried to hook up with and they didn’t want to hire a new actor to play one”, right? Anyway, Michi relays this info to Dunoff, who whines that fourth year is supposed to have math right now. Welp, there’s nothing to do but let them have a free period! Really? Nothing? They can’t have study hall?

Feli frets to Mia and Vico about her upcoming vacation with her family and Maxi. Mia and Vico reassure her that there’s no way it can happen anytime soon; it would just be crazy for Feli’s mom to pull her out of school in the middle of the year! Yes, that would be crazy, and yet everyone’s parents do it all the damn time. Also, Mia is remarkably chill about this, considering she of all people should know what a bad idea it is to hang out on an island with your douchey boyfriend.

The kids go to class and Michi announces to them that they have free period since the math teacher’s not there. And by “not there” she means “nonexistent.” All the kids are like, “Hell yeah, free time!” and start making out right on the desks. Because that’s really a thing you want to do in front of the yard teacher. Anyway, Michi tells Pablo that Miranda wants to see him, and Pablo’s like, “Why? I said sorry to him!” Marizza’s like, “This is why you should never apologize!” and Javier’s like, “Ahahahaha what a beta.” Then he gives Marizza his literature notes and sneers at Pablo.

Michi summons Feli to the office for the sole purpose of yelling at her about Lalo. She’s like, “How could you do this to him when you’re leaving on vacation with Maxi in two days!” Feli’s like, “Say what?”

Papa C and Sonia are still hanging around the school because neither of them have jobs anymore. Then again, did we really need any more scenes of Sonia being overdramatic and yelling at her bosses when they wouldn’t let her stop rehearsal to run off every time she felt like it? Anyway, they find Mia, and she thanks Sonia for not flipping out over the whole mattress thing. Sonia’s like, “I too know what it’s like to be young, reckless, and a slave to your hormones!” Is she referring to how Marizza came into being? Mia and Sonia awkwardly patch things up, although they don’t quite talk it all out. Papa C and Sonia swan off, and Vico sighs that she wishes her dad could meet a nice lady like that. Don’t do that woman any favors, Vico.

Manuel rocks up and wants to talk to Mia, so he yells at Vico to fuck off like the charmer that he is. Again, I don’t know why any of them put up with his antics. Manuel is all salty and passive-aggressive about how Mia wouldn’t fuck him but apparently she’ll give it up to Francisco. Well, maybe that’s because Francisco…haha jk Francisco is trash too, but admittedly, he’s never done anything to Mia specifically. Anyway, then Francisco himself rocks up and yells at Manuel to leave Mia alone, which is more chivalrous than anything Manuel’s ever done for her.

Since Lola’s mom has no interest in getting to know Lola of her own free will, Marizza decides to call her and lie to her, saying that Lola is dying. It’s for the greater good! Meanwhile, Laura tells Lola the truth, which is that her bio mom just doesn’t give a shit about ever meeting her. Lola’s like, “Well, this is doing nothing for my self-esteem.”

Francisco and Mia discuss Manuel’s whacked-out behavior. As ever, Mia has been Stockholm Syndrome’d into defending Manuel all like, “His poor, fucked-up brain can’t handle the stress of losing me! His life is so hard!” Jesus Christ, Mia. Francisco suggests that they just tell Manuel that they’re not really dating so that he’ll stop flipping his lid all the time. It’s super fucked up how everyone walks on eggshells around Manuel and works to appease him because they’re afraid of him going psycho on them. Mia asks Francisco to talk to Manuel for her, because she’s afraid of him, which is also super fucked up. Francisco agrees to do it because he like-likes her.

Mia tells Vico why Manuel was acting like such a jerkface. I don’t know why they have these conversations when it’s the same reason every time, blah blah brain damage blah blah breaking up with Mia blah. Vico’s like, “Idk why you keep letting Manuel walk all over you and ruin all your relationships but whatever.” It’s actually pretty realistic how Mia and Vico can clearly see how fucked up the other’s situation is but have no perspective when it comes to their own lives because they’re equally trapped in cycles of abuse. Anyway, Mia tells Vico that Francisco is going to go confront Manuel for her, and Vico’s like, “Have you ever noticed that Francisco does literally everything you ask him to? Do you think it’s because he like-likes you?” Mia’s like, “Stop saying words.”

Feli comes by and tells Mia and Vico that her mom is pulling her out of school in the middle of the year after all, and she’s going to pretend to be sick so she doesn’t have to tell Lalo the truth. Vico and Mia think she’s being a cowardly custard but they agree to help her anyway.

Marizza tries to talk to Pablo at his locker, but he passive-aggressively blows her off because he’s mad at her for accepting Javier’s notes. He rants about this to Tomás, and Tomás is like, “Man, this is how you drive her back into Javier’s arms.” He tells Pablo to chill out because he’s with Marizza and Javier isn’t.

Francisco tries to explain to Manuel that he’s not sleeping with Mia, but of course Manuel’s immature ass doesn’t want to hear it. Francisco’s like, “Hey, so I want to clear some things up,” and Manuel’s like, “Oh, you DO, do you? Do you want to CLEAR UP what Mia looks like IN BED and how many times you two MADE THE BEAST WITH TWO BACKS?” Francisco’s like, “…no, you weirdo.” Manuel starts losing his mind again and Francisco doesn’t tell him that he’s not sleeping with Mia after all. Then we linger on Manuel looking all sad like that’s supposed to make me feel bad for him. I don’t!

Vico and Rocco go into the cafeteria, and Vico asks Rocco to play along with the girls’ plan to make Lalo think Feli is sick. Rocco clutches his pearls all, “This goes against my ethics and values!” He thinks Feli should just woman up and tell Lalo what’s going on, just like he thinks Vico should woman up and — confront her dad? I don’t know. These situations are not similar, Rocco. Anyway, Vico talks all loudly about what a SHAME it is that Feli is SICK. Lalo overhears and is all, “Oh no” in the most deadpan voice ever because he can’t act. Rocco’s like, “Oh, I’m sure she’s not that sick, you know girls are always exaggerating and lying.” Vico kicks him under the table. Hee.

Guido tries to ask Augustina out again. She tells him that she has plans with Diego, because Guido literally cannot get it through his thick-ass skull that Augustina and Diego are dating. Then Diego rocks up and makes fun of Guido for trying to steal his girl. Hee. Diego hates everyone in his class equally and I can’t blame him for it. They swan off, and Guido gets the idea to sic Jenny’s pimp/mafia enforcer/whatever on him. He calls the guy and tells him where to find “Guido,” giving Diego’s description and the location of his and Augustina’s date instead. Guido is such a terrible person.

Feli’s faking-sick plan backfires because Lalo is all, “I must accompany you to the doctor, my fragile angel!” Rocco’s like, “Ah yes, how sweet, you two must go together!” All the shin kicks in the world can’t deter him, and Lalo and Feli go off together. Feli manages to keep the ruse up for a couple of blocks, then she breaks down and admits to Lalo that she’s not sick at all, she was pretending to have a deathly illness instead of putting on her big girl pants and telling Lalo the truth about her vacation. Or telling her family the truth about Lalo, either/or.

Marizza asks Pablo why he blew her off earlier, and he BSes that he’s just worried about the girls vs. boys soccer match or whatever. Marizza offers to come watch his practice, and Pablo’s like, “I’d rather you not.” Ouch! I can see that they’re going down the “Pablo ruins his own relationship by being insecure and passive-aggressive,” which is fair enough, but we’re just gonna ignore Marizza making him fix things with Miranda on his own, then getting mad when he didn’t fix it like she wanted, huh.

Marizza vents about Pablo to Lujan, and Lujan’s like, “Well, haven’t you noticed that Pablo chases things then gets bored once he has them?” He does? I’ve been watching this show for over 200 episodes (help) and I’d argue that Pablo’s issue is that he doesn’t think he’s good enough for whatever he wants — Marizza, the band. The second things get hard, he panics and ruins it himself so that no one else can ruin it for him (e.g. Marizza can’t choose Javier over him if she dumps Pablo for a different reason first; his dad can’t break up Erreway if Pablo quits the band first). He’s basically that guy tapping his head meme. It’s also a super common romantic misunderstanding trope. Watch more rom-coms, Lujan.

However, Lujan is more on point with the next thing she says, which is that Marizza is always trying to change the boys she dates, and it never works — just look at how trying to change Marcos worked out for Lujan. Heh. Marizza insists that she knows how she feels about Pablo and she can’t be wrong. So…she just didn’t take any of Lujan’s speech in, then.

The boys go to their football practice and tbh I can see the girls winning this solely because Manuel keeps focusing on tripping Francisco rather than actually playing. Also I got my hair cut this weekend and I’m having the horrifying realization that I look like Francisco now. Anyway, Pilar and Fernanda spy on the practice and get worried about their chances even though it’s obvious that the boys are collapsing under their own drama and egos? I don’t know.

Back inside the school, Mia and Vico yell at Rocco for fucking up their plan. Rocco’s like, “I just can’t stand in the way of Feli and Lalo’s true love! The truth will set them free!” Vico’s all, “Really? That’s your excuse?” but then she stops being mad and they start making out like five seconds later. These kids have the attention span of gnats.

Francisco comes limping in from practice and tells Mia to woman up and tell Manuel the truth her own damn self. Let’s see how long it takes her to actually do it, though!

Marizza cries to Sonia that she and Pablo are already having problems. Sonia advises her that she has to learn to compromise and talk things out with her partner. A relationship is nothing without trust and honesty! Wow, decent advice from adult on this show. I am shocked!

Meanwhile, the boys are still having practice — I guess just fuck Francisco, then? — but now Javier and Pablo are the ones wasting it with a pissing contest. The rest of the guys are like, “Hey, hey, let’s not forget the real enemy here — women!” What a bunch of incels. Then Marizza runs in and makes out with Pablo, which Javier doesn’t like at all. Pablo goes off with her, and the boys call the rest of practice off. Then the girls come in and take over the yard? Which I guess was the plan all along with Marizza distracting Pablo? Way to shoot Sonia’s whole speech in the foot, man.

Enforcer Guy finds Diego but Diego shows him his ID and the guy’s like, “Oh, guess you’re not Guido. My bad, bro.” Heh. I didn’t know it was so easy to get the mafia off your back! Diego offers to bring Enforcer Guy to Guido, but Augustina covers for him and says that Guido’s changed schools. Love yourself, Augustina. They leave, but Diego pretends that Enforcer Guy stole his wallet and runs back to him. He offers to bring Guido to him later, when Augustina’s not around. Enforcer Guy gives Diego his card, and Diego’s like, “…your name is Toro?” “It’s my stage name,” Toro says. HEE.

Marizza asks Pablo if it bothered him that she stuck her tongue down his throat in front of God and everybody. Pablo’s like, “Why the HELL would that bother me?” Marizza weirdly then segues into saying that they have to be honest with each other about their issues. Pablo finally tells her that he’s mad that she accepted Javier’s help and admits that he’s jealous. Marizza’s like, “Yes, good, this is honesty! We’re being SO MATURE right now!” Heh. Well, this admittedly is a more mature conversation than all of Manuel and Mia’s combined. Marizza apologizes and they decide to forget about it and focus on getting out of trouble with Miranda. Growth!

Then Papa B’s secretary calls Pablo and tells him that his dad is “better.” Pablo doesn’t know what she means but the secretary refuses to elaborate. Then Pablo like…kisses Marizza? Out of frustration? Then he pulls back and he’s like, “Do you think something happened?” I feel like those actions were out of order.

Feli cries to Lalo that she doesn’t want to go to Cancun with Maxi, but she doesn’t know how to get out of it. She doesn’t want Lalo to be mad and he’s all, “Of course I’m not mad!” even though he was going around grabbing her face and yelling at her earlier in their relationship. But whatever. Lalo’s like, “For real, you gotta tell your mom about us.” He promises to go with her to tell her family the truth, so they set off together. Naturally, her mom takes it badly: she’s all, “How very dare you bring this dirty waiter into our house! Don’t even let this plebe look me in the eye!” Feli gets mad and storms off. So…are they still going to Cancun?

Guido brags to everyone about how he got Diego beat up by Jenny’s pimp. He’s like, “I fixed my debt problem AND I’m gonna get Augustina back! Everything’s coming up Guido!” Then Augustina rocks up and she’s like, “That was actually a fucking dick move, and also, we are never ever getting back together.” She tells him that she’s tired of his BS and she would never leave Diego for him. HA! Destroy him, Augustina!

Meanwhile, Diego calls Toro and gives him a description of Guido: “Kind of dark, taller than me…kinda fat now too, nowadays.” Hee.

Fernanda dips out of the girls’ soccer team because she doesn’t want to break a nail or whatever, which we all knew she was going to do. The girls wonder where Marizza is because they need another person to practice with. This has got to be the third-least interesting subplot to ever grace this series. At least it was kind of funny when it was about DDR. Anyway, the girls practice, but you can tell they shot way less footage than they did with the boys’ practice, because they try to cover it up by stylistically rewinding the shots every five seconds. Then Laura gets frustrated because she’s shit at soccer and quits the team. I try to care.

Marizza gives Javier’s notes back and says that she can’t accept them. Javier is all hurt.

Mia tries to talk to Manuel and he’s a jerk, as usual. He mumblegrumbles that she should just forget about what he said to her earlier and asks her to “try and understand.” Understand what?? That he’s a big ol’ douchebag?? Also, he acted like a dick to her, so it’s really not at all his place to be saying “forget it.” UGH, HE’S THE WORST. Anyway, Mia tries to tell him that she never fucked Fran and never fucked Drake, but then Sabrina shows up! She tells them that she had to postpone the Erreway shows because everything is a mess — Pablo’s dad is onto them, Manuel’s brain is melting, blah blah blah. Manuel’s like, “Actually, the doctor said my brain problem is totally curable if I take some Tylenol!” and Sabrina’s like, “That’s great!” Why are they so excited? That doesn’t fix the problem with Papa B.

Anyway, Manuel and Sabrina start making out, and Mia is all sad. I mean, I think she dodged a bullet, but whatever.

Guido and Diego pretend to pee in front of the fake urinals in the bathroom. I don’t know why they keep up with this farce. I don’t know why they set so many scenes in the bathroom anyway. Guido asks Diego if he’s mad at him, you know, for siccing a whole mob enforcer on him, but Diego’s like, “Nah, I just took a sweet ride on a motorcycle so I’m in a forgiving mood.” He tells Guido that some rando guy is just giving people rides and if Guido hurries outside, he can still catch him. Guido falls for this for some reason and goes outside, where Toro promptly lays him the fuck out.

Pablo finally calls Ines to see what’s up with Papa B. Say it with me: “NO PUEDE SER!”

Lujan Googles/Altavistas for more information about Blas. She finds the website for the mental hospital where he supposedly stayed, and he catches her looking it up. He’s all, “Tell me what you know about my past!”
