Rebelde Way 2×140: Moments of Truth

Previously on Rebelde Way: Pablo and Marizza’s relationship is in danger of falling apart after like two weeks because Marizza couldn’t be fucked to help Pablo with their joint homework, and then Pablo couldn’t be fucked to steal notes from anyone but Javier. Let’s see how this blows up, shall we?

Before that, though, let’s also get into Blas’s creepy sense of ownership over Mia even though they broke up over a hundred episodes ago. He tells them that he’s reporting them to Dunoff and they’re like, “But we weren’t doing anything?” and he’s like, “Don’t ruin this for me with facts!” Michi comes across them and tries to intervene by saying that Dunoff is in a very important meeting, but Blas blows her off.

During a break in the dance contest, Marizza drags Pablo off to confront him about stealing Javier’s work. Pablo apologizes to Javier all snarkily and then makes out with Marizza in front of him. He swans off and Javier gets all “I told you so” to Marizza. She stomps off.

We cut to Dunoff at his important meeting, which was apparently code for “golfing”. I mean, Dunoff has a promising future as the president of the United States. Michi finds him and she’s like, “What happened to your meeting?” and he’s like, “Eh, I don’t feel like going.” Michi tells him that fourth year is having more issues, and he’s like, “Well, now I really don’t want to do my job.”

Blas tells Sol that he caught Francisco hanging with Mia by the cupboard under the stairs — isn’t Francisco Sol’s new boyfriend? What’s that about? It’s all ominous and shit but never comes up again in this episode so who cares

Lalo and Feli get sappy all over each other until a bunch of boys yell at Lalo to bring them a tray of Bubbaloo. They’re…making a waiter…bring them a tray of bubblegum? Can’t you buy that shit out of vending machines? Anyway, Feli watches her boyfriend swan off with a tray full of individually wrapped gum all twitterpated. Their conversation isn’t really worth repeating, they just blah on about how much they like each other (but not enough to actually confront any of their families or peers about their relationship).

Marizza tells Pablo that she talked to Javier — he offered her his notes, but she turned them down. “We walked out of Miranda’s class together, and we have to face whatever comes together,” she says. Were you guys facing it together when you ditched him to do the research alone, Marizza? I swear. Pablo apologizes and says that he just had so much trouble doing it alone; he didn’t want to fail. “But you failed anyway,” Marizza says. Then she goes on to berate him for lying. What the fuck! Maybe none of this would have happened if Marizza hadn’t whined so much that he offered to do the assignment alone? Which she took him up on? Am I taking crazy pills? Anyway, Pablo begs her forgiveness and they hug.

Michi convinces Dunoff to come do his job by telling him that Mia and Francisco have been caught banging in the cupboard under the stairs. As they wait for him in the teachers’ lounge, Francisco’s having a meltdown that he’s going to get kicked out, as he’s on scholarship. Mia offers to take the fall, but Francisco gets all self-righteous and gallant that he could never ask her to be punished for him. Dunoff comes in and yells at them that having sex in the school is worthy of a GREAT PUNISHMENT. Mia and Francisco immediately deny it, although I bet Francisco’s thrilled that another person thinks he’s banging Mia. Dunoff says that it’s their word against Blas’s. And Blas is a convicted felon living under an assumed name, so I don’t know what that’s supposed to mean.

Pilar wins the dance contest, but the kids are all promptly busted by Dunoff. Pilar covers and says that the kids were raising funds to buy a welcome present for the new teacher, and Guido’s like, “Yes, and it’s from all of us!” He grabs the box of money away and as soon as Dunoff walks away, Laura’s like, “What are you doing with the bet money?” Dunoff cottons on that they were having a contest and confiscates the money.

Nice going, Laura.

Sol rolls up to Fernanda, Pilar, and Belen and tells them that she has some thrilling gossip to share. “But it can’t leave the four of us,” she says. “Well, it’s not going to leave here or your mouth, because none of us are interested,” Fernanda snipes. The three girls swan off and Sol yells after them that when Mia Colucci gets expelled, they’ll be sorry that they didn’t hear it from her first. Pilar and co. are shook but continue to ignore her. Pilar runs off to get the prize money back from Dunoff, and Fernanda and Belen scheme to find out what’s happening without asking Sol.

Dunoff and Blas confront Francisco and Mia about their supposed sexytimes. They both deny it — Mia in particular is all, “Ew, I would never, with Francisco!” and Francisco’s like, “Wow, you don’t have to say it like that.” Blas is like, “Fine, if you weren’t having sex, what were you doing in there with a mattress?”

Guido keeps whining at Tomás over losing the prize money, and Tomás is like, “Why don’t you just call Jenny and tell her that you don’t have the money?” Guido’s like, “Fine!” because I guess he’s not afraid of the Argentinian Mafia or whoever Jenny’s pimp is. I mean, I’m not going to fight anyone who wants to set Guido up with a cement overcoat.

Feli, Lalo, and Vico wonder aloud why Francisco and Mia never came back from their mattress-moving mission. Fernanda waltzes into the cafeteria and needles Lalo about socializing with his betters instead of serving them. Feli gets all defensive, and Fernanda’s like, “Oooh, do you like the working class?” Vico BSes that Feli is studying law (what?) and is practicing her argumentative skills. Fernanda buys this even though Elite Way doesn’t even have their core classes, much less a law elective. Anyway, Fernanda then needles Feli and Vico that Mia’s in trouble.

Marizza frets to Lujan that maybe Lujan was right after all — Pablo is still a lying liar; he hasn’t changed; and maybe Javier is the one for her after all! OH MY GOD, MARIZZA, I WILL KILL YOU IN YOUR SLEEP. Their impending Javier circlejerk is cut off, though, when Marizza notices that Lujan is googling psychiatric clinics. Lujan tells her about Blas’s stay in a psych ward, and Marizza’s all, “I forbid you from looking any further into Blas’s shady past!” Lujan’s like, “I thought you agreed to stop meddling in my life?” and Marizza’s like, “Well, I’m going to meddle anyway!” as we all knew she would. Admittedly, Lujan’s reasoning for going to all this trouble is kind of dumb — she’s like, “I want to dig into Blas’s psyche and figure out why he’s such a power-tripping douchelord!” It’s because he’s a predator, Lujan, case closed.

Laura tells Lujan that Lola’s going crazy with excitement, thinking that her mom is going to call her. She asks Lujan for Mari’s number so that Lola can just call herself, and Lujan’s like, “Oh, well, when I said that Mari was interested in being a part of Lola’s life, I totally lied.”

Feli and Vico go to see Mia, but Michi blocks them from going into Dunoff’s office. I love Michi, but her dedication to helping Dunoff at every turn will never cease to confuse me. But then they sneak past her anyway and Feli starts bawling that she’s going to get in trouble for hiding Lalo in the school. Francisco’s like, “You’re not going to get in trouble, me and Mia are going to get in trouble for getting busted with a mattress.” Mia comes up with the brilliant idea that she and Francisco should fake-date — because that will…somehow make it less likely that they’ll get in trouble for sleeping together? I don’t know.

In class, Sol casually lets it slip in front of Manuel that Blas caught Francisco and Mia with a mattress, if she gets his drift. This launches Manuel into a whole dream sequence where he imagines Francisco and Mia making out and it’s super detailed and gross. I never wanted to see that much of Francisco’s tongue. Also, be weirder, Manuel.

Marizza gets called on to summarize the homework for the class, but of course she hasn’t done it. Javier offers to help her, but Carmen shuts him down and makes Marizza carry on alone. I fail to see how this is plot reflects well on Marizza. She ditched Pablo to do the homework alone, then got mad when he cracked under he stress and copied off Javier, and now Javier is falling all over himself to give her the answers. Like…why didn’t she just do her own homework? Anyway.

Sonia and Papa C go in for a meeting with Dunoff, Blas, Mia, and Francisco. I guess they couldn’t be fucked to get Francisco’s parents on speakerphone. Dunoff tries to kick Sonia out and Papa C’s all, “Actually, she’s my girlfriend, so she stays.” Dunoff is all hurt by this because you’ll recall that he’s still got a boner for Sonia after they had like one affair twenty years ago. Mia BSes to everyone that she and Francisco are dating, but they were just using the mattress to cuddle! Sonia’s like, “Oh, well, that sounds realistic!” Dunoff and Blas are like, “Two teenagers are never just cuddling in the cupboard under the stairs!” and I hate to admit that they are right. Papa C scowls at Sonia to leave so that the menfolk can talk alone. I mean, he kicks out Blas too, but still.

Michi drags Feli into the cafeteria and demands to know what’s up with her and Lalo. She’s like, “I can excuse Dunoff ignoring all the abuse of power going on at this school, but I draw the line at you two dating!” Just kidding; she’s actually mad because she thinks Lalo is staying late to wring unauthorized overtime out of her and she’s gonna have to call OSHA. She’s mostly thrilled to find out that Lalo and Feli are in a secret, semi-toxic relationship, but she frets that they won’t be able to handle everyone’s disapproval, because absolutely nobody asked for Lalo/Feli. Speaking of which! Feli’s mom walks in just then and demands to know what’s going on with her. Ooh, can’t wait for Feli to ignore the advice of everyone around her and disown Lalo to his face again.

Francisco and Mia leave Dunoff’s office, and Mia’s all, “Can you BELIEVE that they think we’re sleeping together? That is PREPOSTEROUS and I would NEVER!” Francisco’s like, “Wow, okay, you don’t have to say it like that.” Manuel rocks up to them all ready to break faces and demands to know if they’re dating for real. I was waiting for them to like, dramatically fret over whether or not to tell him the truth, but Mia just comes out and is like, “Yeah, and it’s none of your business.” Hee! Suffer, Manuel. Francisco’s like, “Why did you do that? Did you forget I gotta sleep in the same room as him?” Then he almost tells Mia that he likes her but then he doesn’t.

Feli’s mom pulls her aside and asks her why she’s gotta be so rebelde. She waxes on about how she just wants the best for Feli because she loves her, and Feli’s poor affection-starved ass falls for it. She promises to talk to her mom after class. Once she leaves, Maxi comes in, and Feli’s mom cackles to him that he and Feli will be getting back together any day now.

In class, Guido’s trying to convince the girls to fork over the dance contest money so he can pay for his escort service. He’s like, “Don’t be selfish! The noble thing to do would be to pay for my penis issues!” I don’t understand how these kids can go to school with Guido every day and not punch him. Truly, of every single thing that’s ever happened on this show — the sisters with fake diseases, the dream sequences, Erreway being famous — that is the most unrealistic. Guido runs off to try and weasel it out of Dunoff instead, but runs into some mafioso guy who’s like, “I don’t know who you are, but tell Guido Lassen that he owes Jenny money!” Guido somehow gets Marcos to pretend to be him, but instead of breaking Marcos’s skinny ass in half, the mafia guy just kind of threatens him then walks away.

Mia tells Papa C that nothing is going on between her and Francisco; they’re just helping out a friend. Whoa, it’s almost like telling the truth is easier than letting a bunch of lies and misunderstandings pile up and trying to wriggle out of them later! A lesson for all telenovela characters out there.

Pilar manages to get the money back from Dunoff. Guido immediately grabs for it and he’s like, “To be totally fair, we should all split it between Tomás and Pilar, and Tomás can give me his share!” Pilar doesn’t like that at all, so Guido says they should instead do another contest — maybe they can play something the boys are good at! Like football! What a sore loser. I hate him.

Pablo goes to see the new teacher — his name is Miranda, right? Not to be confused with like the other five teachers they’ve had named Miranda. He apologizes to him on his and Marizza’s behalf. When Marizza finds out, though, she’s all, “How dare, this isn’t very rebelde of you.” Pablo tells her that he has this under control. Oh, Pablo. I feel like apologizing to the teacher is actually a pretty mature move that’s more likely to help than not, but I also know that absolutely nothing on this show is ever under Pablo’s control.

Feli’s mom comes back with Maxi and tells Feli that their families just worked out a great business deal — and to celebrate, they’re going on a weeklong vacation to the Caribbean! Imagine being stuck on an island with Maxi. It’d be even worse than being trapped with Manuel in the Galapagos.

Michi has Francisco sign…something. An NDA to not talk about how shitty this school is at handling its problems? I don’t know. He signs it and he’s like, “And we’ll never speak of me sleeping with Mia again!” Joke’s on him, though, because Manuel storms in and he’s all, “Let’s talk about you sleeping with Mia!” As usual, he’s trying to get his threat on but it doesn’t work because Francisco is like, half a foot taller than him.

The credits beginning to scroll on the right really adds to the effect.

It is not cute, at all. Those doctors need another crack at Manuel’s brain because the images in there are TERRIFYING.

Remember when Manuel was that ~rebelde~ righteous Mexican kid who told Feli she shouldn’t sleep with boys if she’s being/feeling forced in season one? Ahh the good stuff. Except when he was being violent but shh. I still don’t get what they wanted to do with him this season.
