Previously on Rebelde Way: Mia found out that Papa C and Sonia were dating, again, some more. Oh, and Lola went to go visit her bio mom’s house. Let’s pick up right after she gets back! No need to show us that scene or anything!
So Lola went looking for her bio mom but didn’t find her, to the surprise of no one. Laura assumes that Lola’s going to keep looking, and Marizza’s like, “Good! The truth will set you free, because truth is always right!” Lujan very clumsily tries to make this about Javier all like, “Are you sure? Because like, maybe Javier lied to you for the greater good, because he loved you too much, and it was wrong of you to want the truth from him.” Lujan, if you insist on defending Javier, at least segue better. Marizza wants to know why Lujan is on Team Javier all of a sudden, which I also want to know. Marizza storms out while Lujan yells that Javier lied because he HAD to, because if you really love someone, you’ll do anything for them. The lessons this show teaches about relationships are so very codependent.
Meanwhile, Mia has finally gotten it through her skull that Papa C and Sonia are dating for real. She laments to Feli about it, Feli rightly is like, “Isn’t this a good thing? Since he’s dating Sonia, someone you like, and not some rando?” Mia’s like, “Stop saying words.” Then, in yet another clumsy segue, Vico bursts in and tells them that Martavio’s calling a meeting about Rocco’s attack. Mia and Feli are like, “Didn’t Rocco want you to keep that a secret?” and Vico’s like, “Stop saying words.”
Papa B goes to see Consuelo in Pablo’s apartment and it’s super weird. She’s all weird and deferent to him while Papa B goes on about how in HIS DAY he had to pull himself up by his BOOTSTRAPS and his dad would have never set him up with his own apartment like Pablo has. Consuelo chirps that she thinks Pablo is sweet, and Papa B gives her a gross speech about how she should be careful, because Bustamantes are actually alpha males and they’re very seductive, if she gets what he means. Consuelo, take this to HR!!! Sadly, she doesn’t. Consuelo tells Papa B that Pablo’s been sneaky with her before — about his age, and about other things, like Erreway! Like how he doesn’t play with the band anymore, but he followed them on tour because he’s in love with Marizza! Papa B’s like, “EXCUSE?”
Guido stops Diego on the way to the classroom and threatens to break his face if he goes out with Augustina again. Diego’s like, “Whatever” because Guido couldn’t punch a fly in the face, honestly.
Over in the classroom, Martavio’s like, “So, we’ve all heard through the telenovela grapevine what happened to Rocco, yes?” “I really don’t care,” Sol snipes. A thought: Sol in 20 years =
Anyway. Martavio says they all have to work together to find out who did it, and inspirational music plays as all the kids are like, “You have my sword! And my bow! And my axe!” They mention that they have to do something since Dunoff won’t, and Pilar’s all, “My father won’t stand up for great justice?” Pilar, have you met your dad? She goes off to confront him, but Michi shoos her out. Michi, I love you, but your love for Dunoff is testing me.
Meanwhile, back in the classroom, Manuel wants to get his violence on with the guys who beat up Rocco because I guess that’s his entire personality now. Martavio’s like, “Violence is never the answer!” because I guess he’s never met his own daughter, either. Then the bell rings and everyone stops giving a shit about Rocco to go on break. Diego goes to have lunch with Augustina and encourages her to break up with Guido. I want to believe that there’s a guy that isn’t using Augustina for her dad’s money, but I’m sure Diego is. Guido sees them together and gets all mad. Cry more, Guido.
Mia and Feli try to get Vico to call Rocco and tell him what’s going on, but she’s too nervous to do it. Then Sonia shows up and Mia is snippy with her. Marizza witnesses this and gets in the middle of it, and Mia and Sonia quickly BSes that they were talking about Sonia helping Papa C with real estate. Marizza’s like, “Since when did you guys hang?” Then she decides that she doesn’t care and drags Mia off to talk to her. Sonia is emo.
Lola stakes out her mom’s house and sits around talking to the photo of her. Not weird at all! Eventually a woman comes home, but it’s not Lola’s mom, just some rando. Lola is sad and is about to give up, but the woman stops her and admits that she knows Meri. Meri rented the house to her before she left, and Lola wants to know where she went.
Marizza confronts Mia over calling Sonia a liar, but they’re interrupted before Mia has to explain. Vico tells them that she called Rocco and told him that they miiiight have to tell Martavio about his attack, because they’re kind of already investigating it, by which she means that pretty much the entire school basically knows. Rocco didn’t like that at all. “Well, we’re going to help him whether he wants it or not,” Marizza says, to the surprise of no one. She tells Vico that she needs to tell Rocco the whole truth, e.g. that God and everybody knows what happened to him already.
Blas shoos them all to class. Sol tells him that she’s prepared a surprise for him in literature class today, and she hopes he’ll be there to see it. Blas kind of shoots her down but not really because he still wants to get in her pants.
Guido is mad at Tomás by proxy, since Pilar is the one who set Augustina up with Diego. Pablo and Tomás remind him that he’s free to go after Andrea now, and Guido’s like, “Oh, right.” Wasn’t Andrea trying to ditch him for Francisco? Whatever, I don’t care.
In literature class, Carmen reads everyone’s grades out loud to shame them to the class. I had a teacher who did this in grade school and I might have actively done worse in the class after that just to spite her. (Although that wasn’t beneficial for me either, admittedly.) Marcos gets an A and all the kids high-five him like they didn’t bully him through half of season 1 for caring about school. In the midst of all this, Guido lapses into a dream sequence about…I don’t even know what this is about.
Basically, some Enya lite music is playing, and then it suddenly segues into “Crazy in Love” while Guido Phantom-of-the-Operas it up with a bunch of girls, and then they do a dance for him wearing masks, and then Guido chases a girl around but when he finally unmasks her, it turns out to be Rocco. I don’t even…what? Anyway, Guido has a meltdown in class and it’s weird.
Pablo gets a text from Consuelo that everything is going to their plan: she fed Papa B the story about him and Marizza dating, just like they agreed to in that scene we didn’t get to see.
Meanwhile, Carmen announces that they’re going to start presenting their biography projects, which was never brought up before until now. Blas shows up and Sol is all twitterpated, so she volunteers to go first. She’s like, “I’ve written my report on our yard teacher!” and all the kids rightfully mock her for being a suck-up. Sol proceeds to read aloud about how Blas’s dad was a famous scientist and the Heredias have contributed so much to the development of humanity. Blas stomps out in a huff. After class, Carmen stops him and compliments him on having such an impressive father, which makes Blas all salty because he has daddy issues out the wazoo. When Sol comes up to him, Blas twists her arm and snaps at her never to bring up his father again.
Roccos’ dad tries to hang out with him and it’s awkward. He asks what happened to Rocco’s face, and Rocco BSes some story about getting in a fight at the club. Rocco’s dad doesn’t believe him, but he drops it for the time being. He adds, however, that he knows that Dani came to visit, and he Does Not Approve of gay people in their house.
Sonia tries to make up with Mia, but Mia snaps at her that she still doesn’t want Sonia dating Papa C. Sonia’s like, “But why!” and Mia tells her that they’ll never be happy together, because Papa C is still in love with Mia’s mom. Sonia’s like, “Okay, but like…she ran off with another guy and died. We established that last season.” Mia’s like, “Stop saying words.” Sonia presses Mia to admit what’s really bothering her, and Mia snipes that she doesn’t want her dad dating a skanky burlesque dancer. Sigh. Sometimes, Mia, you make it hard to defend you.
Lujan finds Javier and encourages him to keep fighting for Marizza. First Mia, now Lujan. Why are my two faves being like this?
Sol cries to Fernanda about how Blas hated her essay and threatened her. Fernanda’s like, “So…are you going to finally stop chasing after him?” and Sol’s like, “What? No. Don’t be ridiculous.” She begs Fernanda to help her with yet another vaguely-defined scheme to win Blas back. Fernanda agrees because she knows that if she doesn’t, she’ll end up with 1 line every 10 episodes like Belen. For some reason, half this scene is filmed with Fernanda in the bathroom stall. Like, why didn’t they just shoot the whole thing with her sitting with Sol?
Manuel tells the boys that Rocco can’t come to school to ID his attackers. Tomás immediately starts wailing that they’ll have to give up and this was all for naught. Hee. Chill out, Tomás. Where’s Pilar when you need her? Just then, Augustina drags Diego up and he tells them that he was approached by some shady guy who was asking about Rocco the other day. Manuel’s like, “How very dare you have a vague conversation with him!” because I guess he is a rageaholic now. Diego says the guy was super suspicious, but he doesn’t want to ID him and get involved with this. Diego, it’s not a police lineup. Manuel wants to punch Diego into submission, but Martavio points out that they can’t force Diego to do anything he doesn’t want to. Manuel’s like, “Of course you can pressure people into doing things they don’t want to do. That’s like my whole M.O.”
Pablo approaches Marizza and tells her that they have to make Papa B believe that they’re dating, for the greater good of the band, obviously. Marizza’s like, “Aw hell no, we already did that and it ended TERRIBLY.” She tells him that she promised herself she wouldn’t get mixed up with him anymore, so apart from school and the band, they’re not friends. She walks off and Pablo is all emo. Aw 🙁
Papa B brings Ines to Pablo’s apartment for a date. Not weird at all! He tries to mack it with her but Ines tells him that she wants to break up. She’s like, “You’re really overbearing and kind of weirdly obsessed with everything Pablo does.” Papa B’s like, “Well, DUH, he’s only RUINING MY LIFE by BETRAYING ME with his ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC and REBELDIA, but like, it’s totally fine, I’m over it, whatever.” He insists that everything is totally fine and won’t let Ines get a word in edgewise, and then he’s like, “So we’re not breaking up!” and they make out. Again, in the apartment where his son hooks up with all those random extras who don’t love themselves. Not weird at all (x2).
Marcos convinces Laura to get back together and they make out. It’s boring, like all things that they do.
Carmen tells Blas that the biology teacher heard about his famous scientist dad and was very impressed. He wants Blas’s dad to teach a class at Elite Way! Wait, WHAT bio teacher? They only have like three subjects at this school. Anyway, Blas mumbles that he’ll think about it and runs away. Martavio comes in and tells Carmen, Hilda, and Mama D about Rocco’s attack and that they have to get to the bottom of it. All the teachers are like, “We don’t get paid enough for this,” and Martavio’s like, “But it’s a teachable moment!” He thinks they should have an assembly of some kind to teach the kids about tolerance and homosexuality — and maybe they could invite their parents too! Because inviting the kids’ parents to talk about sex worked out so well the last time they tried it.
Meanwhile, Papa B and Ines are trying to convince Pablo and Javier come out and eat with them. They BS that they have work to do, which Marizza corroborates when she runs up and pretends that they have a study group that’s just gathered (she’s actually talking about the alumni meeting). Papa B takes the opportunity to ask Marizza how long she and Pablo have been dating. Javier clutches his pearls all, “You two are DATING?”, which only makes Papa B more suspicious. Marizza BSes that she doesn’t like talking about this kind of thing and runs off. It’s not a direct denial, so Papa B buys it.
Feli is puttering around all excited over gathering their suspects, and Michi observes that she’s quite invested in this whole thing. Maybe she’s not as homophobic as she thought? Feli’s like, “Gay people are still sinners, bye.” Michi remarks that the most homophobic people are usually questioning their own sexuality, which Feli does not like AT ALL. This does seem to be something that they’re trying to hint at with Guido, but he ends up straight, so whatever. Before Feli stomps off, Michi shoves a bag at her, which Feli assumes is her dress for the party that her mom’s sent over.
Fernanda tries to fish for information from Blas, and he snaps at her that he’s going to suspend Sol for putting on makeup in class. Fernanda’s like, “But that would be unjust!” and Blas is like, “Are you new?” He tells her to tell Sol not to mess with him. Yeah, she should live in fear of Blas, like, ineffectually trying to get her expelled and eventually failing, which is what happened every other time he tried to get rid of a student.
Vico is afraid that Rocco will be mad at her for telling everyone what happened to him. Mia browbeats her into doing it anyway, so Vico goes off to visit him (again) and tell him what’s going on. Then Feli comes in and Mia insists on getting a look at her dress. It turns out to be a red dress that Feli liked when she went shopping with Michi, and they’re like, “Did MICHI buy this?” They immediately dismiss the idea, as Michi probably doesn’t get paid enough to afford it. Mia cutely/sadly thinks that Feli’s mom must have bought it for her because she knew Feli would like it. Feli’s like, “Okay, I know you idealize the concept of motherhood because of your own issues, but my mom doesn’t know me like that.” Still, they find that more believable than Michi buying it, so they roll with it. Poor Feli calls her mom to confirm, and her mom’s like, “Me? Buy you a red dress so you could look FAT at the party? RIDICULOUS!” Nice going, Mia.
Sonia and Papa C talk about Mia’s little speech. Papa C doesn’t like what Mia said to Sonia at all, and he gets ready to go storming off to the school. He says it’s time Mia learned the whole truth about her mom. Oh snap!
The boys somehow drag Diego into looking into the alumni meeting and pointing out the guy who spoke with him. He’s like, “Great, I’m gonna go now, and you guys can snitch all you want once I’m gone.” Heh. Mia runs up and reports that, according to Rocco, three guys jumped him. The kids fret over what to do — they want to find out who the other two were, but they don’t know how. Everyone wants to get Martavio, but he’s off giving speeches in the teachers’ lounge. Manuel and his rage issues want to just storm in and attack — Guido is afraid of fighting a bunch of twenty-year-olds — Javier isn’t afraid, probably because he’s twenty years old himself. Mia tells Manuel that he’ll get himself killed, and Manuel’s like, “Aw, so you do care!” I support Manuel going in and getting his ass kicked, tbh.
Which is…pretty much what happens: the boys storm in and the alumni immediately start making fun of Manuel for being Mexican. It’s always so helpful when the bad guys are cartoonishly villainous and are both racist and homophobic! The boys start a rumble with them, and glass starts breaking and doors are slammed. This all seems a bit excessive. The girls finally get the door open, and in the like thirty seconds that passed, Manuel has managed to get his face broken. We’re supposed to feel bad for him, again, some more.
