Why do I always end up making posts on Election Day, Christmas, New Year’s, the State of the Union, etc? I did not realize Tuesday was so damn busy. Anyway.
Previously on Rebelde Way: Rocco is about to become a victim of a hate crime. He’s extremely blase about this — he bolts out of there and stops to taunt the homophobic guys a couple of times because I guess he doesn’t really care that they were ready to beat him to death.
Back at school, Javier looked like he might finally tell Marizza the truth about the hole in his brain when Ines rocked up and interrupted them. Javier is relieved that he can string along Marizza’s sympathy and bad judgment for like another 10 episodes. Ines tells them that Javier’s father is demanding that Javier and Ines spend a couple of days with him, and he can do this because of custody reasons. Not sure why Ines has to go along, but whatever. Marizza volunteers to take Ines’s place, which — again, not sure what kind of custody agreement this is that requires one other random person to tag along on Javier and his dad’s bonding time without any regard for who that other person is.
Sabrina and Manuel go over Erreway’s touring profits. Manuel’s all pleased to be making money off the efforts of his more talented bandmates and thanks Sabrina for wrangling all of this for them. He’s all like, “I know you did this all for me deep down, because you’re in love with me!” and they make out. This is treated like a big deal even though…they already have? I don’t know anymore.
Meanwhile, Pablo’s all mad that Guido’s abandoned their bros-before-h*es philosophy to make out with Andrea. I’m mad that Andrea says that this is her first free weekend in a long time, and she wants to spend it with Guido. Jesus Christ, Andrea, there are so many better things you could be doing. Pablo’s eventually like, “Okay, I can’t watch this anymore, at LEAST go fuck somewhere I don’t have to watch.” He gives Guido the keys to his apartment and hustles him and Andrea out.
Mia, Feli, and Vico park themselves on the stairs of the main hall, watching all the couples in their school and being emo that they don’t have boyfriends themselves. Vico is emo over Rocco; Feli is emo over Francisco, and Mia is emo over…Lucas? For real? We haven’t heard about him in like twenty episodes. Whatever. Mia and Feli needle Vico for being in love with a gay dude, then they switch to talking about Feli’s upcoming party. Feli has to lose 10 kilos — about 20 pounds — before the party, and Vico’s like, “There’s no way you can do that so quickly.” Feli gets all defensive, then Michi sails in and ropes Feli into going shopping with her. Mia and Vico are like, “Sucks to be you” and run off.
Rocco comes back to school and Vico catches up to him. She asks if Dani liked his new song, and Rocco’s all, “How very dare you ask me this! You know what you did!” and Vico’s like, “Not really,” and Rocco’s like, “I know you sent those guys to do that thing!” and Vico’s like, “…seriously, I don’t know what this is about.”
Javier finds Lujan and she’s like, “So have you told Marizza the truth or not?” Javier’s like, “Not, but I’m going to do it! Eventually!” He tells her about him and Marizza’s little camping trip with his dad, and assures Lujan that he’ll tell Marizza the truth then. I bet he won’t.
Sonia shows up to school to pick up Mia, so they can go house-hunting together with Papa C. A girl runs by and Sonia thinks she sees Marizza, but it’s just some rando. She gets all emo, and then Marizza actually does show up. She’s all sarcastic and salty with Sonia, and snipes that she hopes Sonia’s not stalking her now. I mean, you live with your dad who stalked you under a false identity for like three months, so let’s not get all judgmental here, Marizza. Sonia hits back that she’s actually here to hang out with Mia. Marizza doesn’t like that at all, but she snips that she’s spending the weekend with Javier anyway, SO THERE. Martavio picks that moment to try and parent her, and tells her that she most certainly is not going off with Javier. Marizza’s like, “Are you afraid that I’m going to sleep with him, because I could just do that there!” Ew, please don’t put that thought out there into the universe. Martavio forbids it, again, some more. Marizza’s all, “Nobody understands me!” and storms off.
Sabrina has apparently forgotten that she and Manuel already kissed and then he cheated on her with Side Bangs, because they’re all holding hands in the hallway while making plans to go out after rehearsal. “I’ll drive,” Sabrina says, and they have a hearty chuckle over how Manuel nearly killed Side Bangs in a car crash. Papa C shows up and tells Manuel that he’s going nowhere this weekend, as he’s grounded. Manuel starts stomping around and whining, and Papa C snaps, “You’re much less mature than I thought you were.” HA! I mean, his first mistake was assuming Manuel was mature at all, but I’ll take what I can get. Papa C goes to find Mia, and Sabrina seethes that she doesn’t know how Manuel can stand him. “What can I do? He’s my guardian; I need him to stay here,” Manuel says. MANUEL, YOU GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL ALREADY!! GO HOME!!
Papa C swings by Mia’s room to talk to her about going out with him and Sonia. Mia’s like, “Kinda weird that you two are hanging out when you normally hate each other.” Papa C’s all, “Ha ha, we don’t hate each other! We’re over all of that! We’re friends now! Platonic friends!” Nevertheless, Mia can’t go today, as she has rehearsal. Before she leaves, Papa C tells her that Manuel will be spending the weekend at their house. He’s like, “Don’t be too mad at him! He’s just a sad lost boy!” PAPA C, MANUEL IS A DAMN ADULT AND HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER!! I DON’T CARE IF HE SOMEHOW HASN’T COME OF AGE IN THE WHOLE YEAR HE’S BEEN HERE!!
Marizza rants to Javier that she hates her parents the mostest, because they just don’t understand, man! She wants to sneak out anyway, but then Pablo stops them and reminds Marizza that they have rehearsal. Marizza snipes that she’s going with Javier and no power on earth can stop her. Pablo stalks off and Javier pretends to be concerned but not really.
Vico confronts Rocco in his room about why he’s acting so weird around her. He’s all like, “Don’t play dumb about sending me into a trap with a bunch of homophobic guys who I’ve never seen before but who you must be friends with (even though I’ve been following you around for like half a year now so I probably would’ve seen them before)!” Vico insists that she didn’t do it and says that they should go report it to Dunoff. Rocco’s like, “How dare you tell me to report my problems to an authority figure (even though that’s what I’ve been haranguing you to do about your dad for the past half year also)!” Vico gives up and leaves, but not before asking how Rocco could even think that she’d do something like this. Rocco saltily tells her that he doesn’t believe in coincidences. You’re in a telenovela, Rocco. Coincidences are all your life is made of.
In the lounge, Mia confronts Manuel about her dad being his guardian and how Manuel keeps hanging around her family. Oh my God, are we just replaying all the drama from season 1 now? They have had this exact conversation before. Manuel snaps at her that he doesn’t want Papa C to be his guardian, but he has no other option. OH MY GOD, I AM LOSING ACTUAL YEARS OFF OF MY LIFE HERE. YOU HAVE A WHOLE-ASS LIFE (AND A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA) IN ANOTHER COUNTRY, MANUEL!!! Mia turns to leave, but she runs into Pablo. I just realized that Mia and Pablo are wearing matching sweaters, like the hilarious prepsters that they are. God bless. He tells them that Marizza’s run off with Javier, and Mia sighs that there’s no reason for her to stick around, then. She flounces off, and Manuel gets all bitter that he can’t stand her. What? Marizza’s the one who fucked up their rehearsal. Anyway, Manuel flings his pool cue down and storms off, leaving Pablo alone. Man, it sucks to be Pablo. At this point he’s like the only sane member of the band left.
Consuelo shows up and tells Pablo that they have work to do. God, I can’t believe Pablo is a 15-year-old with an office job. They go over to the not-library — so basically just across the room — to work, and Pablo spends the whole time whining about how boring this all is and how he doesn’t get it. Man, this episode has to got to contain the most realistic teenage behavior so far. Consuelo comforts him and Pablo has a flashback of Marizza coddling Javier that time she snuck into their room. Pablo’s like, “If Marizza’s busy stroking Javier’s ego, maybe I should just give up and let Consuelo stroke mine!” and he and Consuelo make out. They’re interrupted by a phone call from Papa B, who reminds Consuelo that she’s meant to be spying on Pablo and finding out stuff about Erreway. I don’t know why Consuelo has to do all this subterfuge. Surely she could just hit up some randos on the street, since apparently everyone knows where Erreway is playing all the time without them ever announcing tour dates beforehand. After they hang up, Pablo tries to make out with her some more, but Consuelo’s like, “So anyway, tell me everything that’s new with Erreway!” Pablo pouts that he’d rather make out, but promises to tell her more later. They keep macking it until Martavio comes up and interrupts them in a really weird accent. I guess he thinks he’s being funny. Pablo rightly is like, “The fuck is that voice?” Martavio drops it and asks where Marizza is, and Pablo says that she’s run off with Javier. Martavio’s like, “Are you saying she disobeyed me? Who could have seen this coming?”
Michi and Feli have a shopping montage together, and Michi talks Feli into trying on some dresses for her family event. Michi almost manages to get Feli to get over her insecurity and buy a dress that she likes, but Feli chickens out. She tries to go back to school but Michi drags her off to lunch instead. God bless.
In the cafeteria, Sol is still going on about Blas to Fernanda, who is quickly getting sick of her shit. HEE! Maybe Sol should talk to Belen. She has much less personality than Fernanda, so she might still put up with this. Lujan comes in and overhears them and decides to fuck with Sol some more. She says she’ll give up more info about Blas’s family in exchange for Sol’s goods and services. Sol offers her a makeover (hee) but Lujan rejects it. Finally Sol’s like, “Money! However much you want!” Jesus, Sol, don’t bankrupt yourself over BLAS, of all people.
Dunoff comes back to school and Pilar frets that he should be taking care of himself. Dunoff’s like, “Well, if I run myself into an early grave, I won’t have to pretend to care about this school anymore.” He guilts Pilar into hanging out with him — she tries to protest, saying she and Tomás have plans, and Dunoff zeroes in on Tomás all, “Oh, are you going to take my daughter away from her ailing father? Is that how it is?” “Pilar, stay with him,” Tomás bleats before running away. Heh. Poor dumb Tomás. Pilar makes up some excuse and ditches Dunoff, too. Hee. Rough life, Dunoff.
Marcos and Laura come across Lujan on the computer and invite her to eat with them. Lujan says she’s busy looking up some science dude she can pass off as Blas’s dad — not in so many words — and Marcos is like, “OMG, I’d love to help, glad you asked!” He plunks down next to her and starts chatting with her, while Laura watches uncomfortably. Oh, Laura. Deep down, you know how this is going to end.
Tomás goes to Pablo and suggests that they do something. Pablo’s like, “Oh, sure, NOW you want to hang out.” Heh. He’s not wrong. They decide to get together a poker game with all the guys — including Rocco, who they have to drag out of bed — and I guess they’re going to like…physically remove Guido from inside Andrea? I don’t know.
Vico rants to Mia about how Rocco thinks she sicced the homophobic guys on him, then she’s like, “But whatever, tell me about your life.” Mia tells Vico about how she’s going house-hunting with Papa C and Sonia, and it’s soooo embarrassing how Papa C is trying to make her think that he and Sonia are dating. She’s sure Sonia doesn’t know anything about it, and Papa C is just using her as a ploy to distract from his real girlfriend! It’s so sad to watch, but Mia will go along with it for the greater good! MIA, I AM LOSING ACTUAL YEARS OFF MY LIFE HERE. THIS IS THE KIND OF WILLFULLY GULLIBLE SHIT I EXPECT FROM MARIZZA, NOT FROM YOU.
Sabrina comes to school to pick everyone up for rehearsal — or maybe just Manuel, since she doesn’t give a fuck about the rest of the band — and Manuel tells her that there’s no rehearsal since Marizza’s fucked off to the countryside with Javier. Sabrina is rightly pissed that this band she’s putting all her time and money into is dicking around like this — although in fairness, it’s not like dicking around and putting zero effort in stopped them from becoming famous to begin with. Sabrina huffs that she’s just under a lot of stress right now, then she gives Manuel a check for the amount of money that he owes Papa C. I’m pretty sure that number accumulates with every second that Manuel spends leeching off of Papa C’s tuition and house, but whatever. Sabrina snaps that if he loves her, he’ll take her dad’s money; if not, then he should take Papa C’s. Wow, that’s awkward.
Augustina whines to Pilar that she’s saaad because she wants to hang out with Guido but she can’t find him. This is a good thing, Augustina! Be free! Pilar says that the boys are playing poker at Pablo’s apartment. Augustina’s like, “Oh goody, let’s surprise them!” and Pilar BSes that she’d love to drop in on the boys’ poker game, which surely won’t end tragically for anyone involved, but she has to stay here and take care of her dad. Just then, Mama D swoops in and tells Pilar that she is under no circumstances going to stay here and baby her father, and she should go off with Augustina. Augustina’s like, “Great, I’ll go powder my nose!” Mama D takes the opportunity to tell Pilar that Dunoff has nothing wrong with him other than nerves. Pilar acts really relieved even though…I thought she knew this? Whatever.
Consuelo goes to meet with Papa B. He’s not happy at all that she hasn’t managed to find out anything else about Erreway, and demands that she go out NOW, IMMEDIATELY and find out their schedule. Papa B, Erreway doesn’t even know their OWN schedule. Consuelo bleats that she has a birthday party. HA! I love that she thinks Papa B cares. He flings some money at her and yells at her to get better at spying.
Sonia and Papa C hang out and discuss Manuel. Sonia assures Papa C that Manuel will come around — “He’s a good boy,” she says. What show have you been watching, Sonia? Manuel is terrible. Papa C tries to blame Sabrina, like Manuel’s dick wasn’t the one that got her involved to begin with. Manuel shows up and gives Papa C Sabrina’s check. He says that his debt is paid and he doesn’t need Papa C anymore, except presumably to keep him enrolled at Elite Way and to live…give him a place to live. Papa C says as much and says that he’s still Manuel’s guardian, but Manuel blows him off and peaces out.
Meanwhile, the boys are playing poker at Pablo’s apartment. Not sure how they managed to physically separate Guido and Andrea, but whatever. I’m fine as long as I don’t have to watch Guido make out anymore. Someone knocks on the door, and Pablo assumes it’s Consuelo. He tells all the boys not to jump on her and start salivating like what happened the last time she showed up. Real talk, Consuelo’s pretty, but it’s not like any of these boys have never seen a conventionally attractive blonde girl before. They go to school with like ten of them. Anyway, it’s not Consuelo, it’s Pilar and Augustina. The boys pass off Andrea as Francisco’s girlfriend so as not to get Guido in trouble, and Andrea’s like, “Yeah…I’m just gonna leave now.” “That would be best,” Pilar snipes. Hee. The boys tell Francisco to walk her out, since he’s Andrea’s “boyfriend.” After they leave, Consuelo shows up, so everyone shuffles out and that entire scene was kind of pointless. You know how it’s generally a good idea to conserve action when you write; e.g. if Pilar, Augustina, and Consuelo were all going to show up, they might as well have done it together instead of having Pilar and Augustina show up, have a pointless conversation, have Andrea leave, THEN have Consuelo show up and everyone else leaves? This is the opposite of what this show does at all times.
Back at school, Lujan calls Marizza because they’ve been apart for like two whole hours now, the humanity. She asks if Javier and Marizza have had any deep talks while they’re alone together, and Marizza’s like, “No, why?” Lujan chirps that she was just checking. They hang up, and Sol comes up with Lujan’s money. She swaps it for a folder full of information about Blas, and Lujan runs off pretending to be Superman. Because she thinks screwing Sol over is…a superpower? I don’t know.
Marcos asks Laura if she wants to do anything this weekend, and Laura snipes that she’s going home, and maybe Marcos should stay here and help Lujan instead. Burn.
Sol goes to see Blas and hit on him some more and it’s super embarrassing. She invites him out to eat, and he shoots her down like a responsible adult for once. He goes out into the hall and runs into Lujan, and tries to shove some money at her to quit meddling in his life. He’s about to yell at her some more, but Marcos rocks up and says that he and Lujan were just on their way to the movies. Probably to go see Amarte duele for the millionth time. Blas watches them leave and seethes.
Over on some street somewhere, Francisco walks Andrea home and she kisses him. Who is this woman and why does she like high school boys so much?
Back at Pablo’s apartment, Consuelo not at all subtly tries to get information about Erreway out of him. Pablo blows her off and tries to make out with her, but Consuelo’s all nervous and admits that she’s upset because of a talk she had with Papa B. She spills the whole ugly spy story to him and admits that she told Papa B that Pablo was on tour with Erreway that one time. Pablo freaks out, and then Papa B starts knocking on the door. Whatever. He’s known that Pablo was on tour with Erreway for like ten episodes now.
