Rebelde Way 2×095: Surely This is a HIPAA Violation

Upon hearing that there’s news of Pablo, Marizza runs into the classroom, but it turns out to be a hoax: Martavio’s called all the kids there to tell them that Papa B thinks that someone hit Pablo, and he needs their help in uncovering the truth. Javier starts looking real uncomfortable in the back. All the kids protest that Pablo totally fell, and Martavio’s like, “Look, I’ve been around you all long enough to know that you’re obsessed with protecting one another, and that’s real nice, but it’s obvious that you’re lying.” Heh. I hate Martavio but he’s not wrong.

Meanwhile, Dunoff’s watching along from his security camera and yelling at Martavio’s interrogating technique. It’s meant to be funny but it’s not really, or maybe I just hate people who yell at the TV. THEY CAN’T HEAR YOU! Outside, Gloria is eavesdropping and Michi catches her. Gloria covers by blustering that she’s worried for Dunoff and surely Michi knows something about Dunoff’s issues, since they’re such good friends. “First of all, we’re not friends,” Michi says. Hee. She asks what issues Gloria’s referring to, and Gloria gestures towards the door and says that Dunoff talks to himself. She makes Michi go in and interrupt his rambling, and Michi starts making Dunoff do breathing exercises or whatever to calm down. Gloria walks in on them in yet another semi-compromising position, and Michi’s all, “It’s for the greater good!” (The greater good!)

Martavio speechifies to the class that they’ve been corrupted by a culture of violence, and that’s probably why someone hit Pablo. He doesn’t think it’s their fault that they’re so violent — he just wants the culprit to come forward so he can help fix the corruption of their innocent mind. He moralizes to them for like five minutes about how they can TOTALLY make a difference if they would just be ~rebelde~ and it’s super boring and Martavio’s earnest face is the most punchable thing I’ve ever seen.

“I wish I could bake a cake full of rainbows and smiles, and everyone would eat it and be happy!”

Finally, Javier steps forward to put me out of my misery. Not words I ever thought I would say about him! Marizza grabs his sleeve and shakes her head at him, because she’s all about the truth except when it comes to Javier. Javier confesses that he lost his mind and hit Pablo in a moment of drama. Over in his office, Dunoff is all aflutter that he got the perpetrator’s name, and immediately picks up the phone to call Papa B.

In the cafeteria, Rocco tells Vico that he’s leaving for a bit. He leans in to kiss her goodbye — on the cheek — but Vico thinks he’s going for her mouth and lunges back, and it’s super awkward. He shuffles out, and Vico goes over to where the rest of the kids are sitting. They’re chatting about Martavio, and everyone’s waxing on about how awesome it was that he found out what happened to Pablo for great justice. Vico points out that Martavio was probably saving his own skin since he’s been fired about eight times by now. “He’s worse than Blas,” she snipes. Hey, Martavio might be a completely useless stalker rape apologist, but he’s not a pedophile, so…he’s stepping over that low bar, at least. Marizza takes offense at Vico insulting her dad, and even Feli picks up that she’s being way overdefensive. “Well, no one likes to hear anyone talking bad about their daddy,” Mia says, in a way that’s like, half-nice and half-condescending. Everyone’s like, “Say WHAT?” and Mia’s like, “You know…metaphorically…because Martavio is old enough to have kids our age, amirite?” Heh. Nice save.

Then Mia gets a call from Lucas, and wanders out to take it. Francisco, like the stalker sidekick he is, gets all interested in who Lucas might be. You don’t even go here, Francisco! He follows Mia out of the cafeteria and eavesdrops on her conversation. Mia notices him following her, and loudly makes a date with Lucas for tonight. Heh. Suffer, Francisco.

Tomás and Pilar go out in the hall together, and Sol drags them over to see her posterboard. She’s like, “Gosh, I don’t know what this means, but it looks like someone whose name starts with a T spent the night with someone whose name starts with an S.” “That could be anyone in our school,” Tomás derps. HEE! It’s like trying to herd cats. Pilar is much quicker on the uptake, and is like, “Are you trying to tell me that you slept with my boyfriend?” Tomás is like, “I would never!” and Pilar assures him that she trusts him, and they flounce off together. I love them together so much!!! My taste is so tragic!!!

Michi tries to cure Dunoff’s problem with talking to himself again. She tells him that she has just the medication to help him. She’ll bend him over the couch and force it down his throat if she has to! Aaaand that’s when Gloria walks in. Whatever. This isn’t even the weirdest thing that Gloria’s seen in Dunoff’s office.

Gloria tells Dunoff that Papa B has called him back about the Pablo investigation, and he is not pleased. Dunoff’s like, “But, but, I did what he asked and found out who hit Pablo!” He gets on the phone and tells Papa B as much, and Papa B’s like, “Okay, I didn’t want you to find out that JAVIER hit Pablo.” Dunoff’s like, “…I don’t get how that works.” Dunoff is not great at this whole corruption thing. The Argentinian mafia will never let him sit at their lunch table at this rate. Outside, Gloria and Michi are eavesdropping, and they notice that Dunoff’s gone silent. Michi’s all, “This is weird,” and Gloria’s like, “OH, so you’re WORRIED about him,” and Michi gets all up in her face like, “What are you trying to say?” Hee. Michi could definitely take Gloria, and I would watch that scene. They’re interrupted, though, by a guy asking where he can apply for enrollment. We don’t see the guy, but Gloria’s jaw drops, and she’s all, “What are YOU doing here?!”

Meanwhile, Javier’s getting all snippy with his mom — she wants to pull him out of Elite Way, since clearly his obsession with Marizza is reaching terrifying levels and he’s probably going to end up kidnapping her and holding her in a basement soon. Javier threatens to run away and never speak to her again, because she doesn’t UNDERSTAND him, GOSH. Ines caves and says he can stay, and Javier starts crying in her arms. Marizza walks by and is only mildly weirded out by this.

Normal teenage boy behavior!

In Mia’s room, Mia tells Vico and Feli about going on a date with Lucas. Vico is all for Mia getting over Manuel by getting under somebody else, while Feli clutches her pearls that Mia’s tarnishing her virtue or some shit — although she does make the point that all these older dudes really gotta stop hanging around high school girls. It’s weird. Vico gets weirdly defensive about the virtues of older men — I say “weirdly” because she’s basically been in a monogamous not-relationship with Rocco, one of her peers, for like fifty episodes now. Feli and Vico make a bet that Mia’s not going to actually go on her date with Lucas — not in the least because the kids are supposed to be grounded. I’ll spoil it for you now and say that Feli loses the bet, but I’m sure you knew that.

Guido announces to everyone that Pablo is fine, and everyone’s happy, particularly Marizza. Javier says he’s glad to hear it, and Guido’s like, “What do you care? You almost killed him!” Let’s not exaggerate, Guido. That said, he’s willing to fight Javier over it, which is more than can be said for the rest of the kids (Marizza actually takes Javier’s side, again, some more). Come on, you guys! Let Guido and Javier fight to the death, and then I can be rid of at least one of them!

Marcos comes over to Lujan and Laura’s table, and Laura thinks he’s there for her — but he actually wants to talk to Lujan. Ouch. He gives her the address of a library just for newspapers, where she can look up stuff about Blas and his possible father. Lujan thanks him, and Marcos is all blushy over her gratitude. Laura is weirded out by this. Lujan wants to go today, but Marcos reminds her that they’re all grounded.

Except they’re not! Because punishment on this show never lasts! Dunoff comes in and the kids ask after Pablo. Dunoff tells them that Papa B doesn’t want anyone seeing Pablo, so they’re not allowed to know where he is. I mean, this show only has one hospital set, so clearly the answer is “the only hospital in all of Buenos Aires that they ever go to.” Anyway, Dunoff adds that the whole thing was an accident and nobody is punished and if they could just forget the part where they all saw Javier hit Pablo, that would be great. The kids are weirded out for one minute, and then they forget it all in their excitement over not facing any real consequences for their actions. Again.

Mia, Vico, and Feli have missed this whole thing, because Mia is on the phone with Papa C. She’s trying to get permission to leave school so she can go out with Lucas, and Papa C’s all, “I forbid it! I don’t know him! He could be dangerous!” Whatever, Papa C. You’re perfectly fine encouraging Mia to hang out with her cheating attempted rapist ex-boyfriend, so fuck outta here. Feli is all smug that she’s going to win the bet — purely on a technicality, since Mia would totally go out with Lucas if she could — but then Pilar comes in and tells them that they’re not grounded anymore. Vico’s like, “Pay up.” Hee.

Manuel tells Marcos that he’s not going to take the job with Sabrina’s father, because he has a modicum of self-awareness and realizes that that would be weird. Marcos is like, “But dude, you need money,” and Manuel makes a big speech about how he doesn’t want to dependent on his ex-girlfriends’ dads; he wants to be independent. Nothing says “independent” like refusing to leave high school at the age of twenty. Luckily for Manuel, some rando rocks up and tells Manuel that his friend’s dad needs people to help out at their restaurant. This is unnecessary. Why can’t it be this rando’s dad? Nobody cares about him or his friend!

In the classroom, the boys plot together about how they’re going to avenge Pablo’s honor and expose Javier. I want to believe, but…this plot is being headed up by Guido and Tomás. It’s better that I just let my dreams die here. Pilar comes in and wants Tomás to come hang with her, and Guido loses his shit again, some more, that his friends don’t want to hang out and objectify random girls with him anymore. Tomás kind of says no to him, but he doesn’t do it fast enough or with enough conviction, and Pilar storms out. Poor dumb Tomás.

Pilar runs right into Lola, who’s looking for Guido. She says that she’s trying to get him to give back all the presents Augustina gave him. Pilar, in a newly man-hating mood, comes up with a plan.

Michi drags Marizza off to give her a lecture on why she should talk to Sonia again. She shows Marizza a picture of her and Sonia as maids a long time ago — theoretically; the picture has clearly just been taken the other day and the actresses look the damn same — and speechifies that Sonia used to work two jobs to give Marizza a better life. Marizza looks all shocked by this, like parents don’t do this all the time. I don’t know. “Your single mom worked two jobs before she was famous!!!” doesn’t seem like an earth-shattering revelation to me, but Marizza’s all blown away that Sonia wanted to provide for her. Michi mentions that Sonia had a much harder childhood than Marizza, and suggests that Marizza talk to her about it. Marizza is still snippy, and Michi reams her out for not giving a shit about everything Sonia sacrificed to raise her. Michi, Marizza doesn’t even have the self-awareness not to rant to her orphaned friend about how much she hates her parents. There’s no reaching her.

Meanwhile, though, Sonia’s wibbling to Hilda that Martavio has turned out to be a good dad after all, and she’s willing to let Marizza live with him if Marizza wants to. I don’t know how she got that impression. Like, at least one child nearly died under his supervision in Bariloche. Anyway, Sonia starts bawling her eyes out at the thought of losing Marizza, and Hilda’s like, “That’s rough, buddy.”

Manuel realizes that he has to learn how to drive — I guess the restaurant job is for a delivery boy? — and has no car to practice with. Oh, and he somehow has to learn all the rules of the road by tomorrow. Manuel says he knows whose car he can borrow, and runs off. I try to care.

The dude that Gloria met in the office is apparently some friend/love interest she had way back when, who’s been living in Spain and has just come back to enroll his daughter in school. Gloria’s all twitterpated at renewing her acquaintance with him. She has a head start on knowing him, so maybe this relationship won’t end as tragically as all her other ones! Which isn’t to say that it’s not still a little tragic, because this dude is uh…not cute.

Anyway, he asks if she’s married or seeing anyone, and Gloria hems and haws awkwardly until some kid tells her that she’s needed in the office. It turns out to just be a prank, and when she comes back, he’s all, “It’s so cute how trusting you are! But seriously, are you married?” For some reason, she says that she’s dating someone, and when Martavio walks in, she’s all, “MI AMOR!” Jesus, Gloria, raise your standards.

Francisco tells Marcos about Mia going out with Lucas. “Well, don’t say anything. Don’t be an idiot,” Marcos says. HA! Francisco’s like, “But I have to enable Manuel’s entitlement to Mia!” and Marcos tells him to quit getting involved in other people’s drama. Francisco wanders off to go get drinks from the cafeteria, and Laura rocks up. She wants to hang out when he’s done studying, and Marcos blows her off because now that he’s hanging out with Lujan again he’s going to start dicking Laura around. Case in point: Lujan shows up and asks what a newspaper library is called again (“hemeroteca,” by the way, which also unfortunately autocorrects sometimes to “homoerotica”), and says that she’s heading off. Blas catches her and Lujan blows up at him, and he gleefully grounds her. Lujan flips out, and Marcos offers to go in her stead. Laura is weirded out some more.

Feli helps Mia get ready for her date, while berating her that everyone knows that older boys only want ONE THING! I mean…from high school girls? She’s not wrong. Feli’s like, “I watch TV, I’ve seen the news! Older guys are raping and murdering young girls all the time!” Again, she’s not technically wrong, although “things that happen in real life” and “things that happen in telenovelas” is a Venn diagram that barely overlaps. She adds that when you die, your hair keeps growing, and what will Mia look like then? Heh. She has Mia’s number. Mia’s like, “Okay, so we’ll go together and you can be my chaperone!”

Tomás and Guido keep vigil at Pablo’s empty bedside, where they’ve laid out his guitar. HEE. They’re such dumbasses. Overlaid on this scene is a scene of Papa B telling Pablo that he’s not allowed to have visitors. Pablo’s like, “Not even my friends?” and Papa B’s like, “ESPECIALLY not your friends.” He lets Pablo call Guido to tell him that he’s doing fine — even though…they already knew that? — and Guido and Tomás want to know where he is. Pablo tells them to think about “Sol and Dunoff’s daughter.” Is this a logic puzzle? Oh, Pablo, Tomás and Guido aren’t good at those. Guido repeats “Sol and Dunoff’s daughter” like five times, before Tomás is like, “Oh, I’ve got it! Sol and Pilar!” and Guido’s like, “Okay, but what does that mean?” and Tomás is like, “IDK.” Poor dumb Tomás.

Lujan is Googling shit while Marizza navel gazes about Sonia to her. She never knew Sonia had a rough childhood! Lujan gets distracted by news on the computer that her tutor has died. Apparently she’s received an email from some lawyer telling her that he knew he was sick and going to die, and he’s set up a monthly trust for each of his students until they come of age. Marizza notes that it’s a little sus that he’s died just as Lujan was getting close to uncovering the truth — and besides them (and Vico and Marcos), the only other person who knew about their investigation is Blas. Ergo, he must have sent the email. Marizza says that they should play along and pretend to believe the email, to make HIM believe that they believe it. Lujan’s like, “What?” because she’s no good at subtlety.

So despite saying he doesn’t want to get mixed up with her anymore, the person Manuel has called to teach him to drive is…Sabrina. Am I even surprised at his choices anymore? No, no I am not. Manuel wobbles his way through the streets of Buenos Aires, while the “Speed Racer” theme plays in the background. Don’t do Speed Racer like this! At the end of their lesson, Manuel manages not to kill the two of them (sadly), and he and Sabrina have a mutual ego-stroking session about how he’s a good learner and she’s a good teacher. You’re both terrible. Even worse, Manuel’s like, “OMG, Sabrina, I don’t understand how you can be so friendly and open, while SOME PEOPLE are closed off.” Mia is closed off because you cheated on her and assaulted her, you creep! God, I hate him.

Marizza and Lujan stage a scene of Lujan crying over her tutor’s death while Blas watches. After he leaves, Guido and Tomás run in and say that they need help finding Pablo. They tell Marizza about Pablo’s hint, and Marizza takes them down a twisty logic road that sends them to Santa Pilar. Except it turns out that Marizza was lying and she actually has no idea what Pablo’s hint means. She and Lujan start chanting “Sol and Pilar” trying to figure it out.

Speaking of Pilar, she’s helping Lola get revenge on Guido, while Augustina reluctantly tags along because she doesn’t love herself. Lola and Pilar have stolen Guido’s presents from his room and plan on hiding them. Then, when Guido has to give them back, he’ll have no idea where they are and it’ll send him into a meltdown. Augustina wibbles that maybe Guido should keep the presents, that way maybe she can buy his love back. Augustina is so tragic.

Marizza catches up with Javier outside. He tells her that he’s all emo that his parents are going to send him away — hitting Pablo has got them thinking that Javier one messed-up kid (they’re not wrong) so they want to send him to a different school. Javier wails that he didn’t MEAN to hit Pablo, and Marizza coos that she knows, and she doesn’t blame him. Everyone’s fists go astray now and then! RIP my respect for Marizza, episode 1 of season 2 to episode 95. How is she so consistently a terrible judge of character? Anyway, Marizza gets the idea that like, if Javier goes to the hospital and apologizes to Pablo, that will somehow make everything better. How? I have no idea. Also, apparently Marizza knows where the hospital is now.

Feli is eating her feelings over her distress at Mia going out with Lucas. Francisco’s radar for vulnerable girls goes off, and he swoops in to talk to her. Feli sighs and says, “You saw Mia? The blonde girl?” What? Feli, Francisco goes to school with you guys every day. He LIVES with you. He’s been stalking Mia for like thirty episodes now! He knows what she looks like! Anyway, Feli rants to Francisco that Mia’s dating a way older guy (Manuel is twenty!!! Let’s not forget!) and she’s worried about her. Francisco’s like, “Tell me more!”

Marizza and Javier show up to the hospital and ask after Pablo, and the receptionist just straight up confirms that Pablo is there and which room he’s in. Jesus, hotels have better security than this. She tells them that his father has banned him from having visitors, and Javier’s like, “Whatever, you already told us what room he was in, so we’ll just be sneaking in now.” They distract the nurse and sneak up  to Pablo’s room, but then Papa B and Ines bust them. Marizza quickly makes up a lie: “We’re here about the hole in Javier’s head!” and Ines is like, “What the hell are you talking about?”

“Tomás and Guido keep vigil at Pablo’s empty bedside, where they’ve laid out his guitar. HEE. They’re such dumbasses.”

I mean, they’re not the best example of friendship, but when Guido isn’t out there pushing rapey behavior or trying to break up Tomas’ relationship, those three can be cute together lol. Also coincidentally, I follow Benjamin Rojas on Instagram and he uploaded a picture with these two a couple of days ago. Diego and Coco also posted and I’m not gonna lie, I fangirled a little bit haha.

I refuse to believe Marizza is that stupid to believe someone could have a hole in their head and just walk about normally. Then again if her previous education has been anything like Elite Way…
Also they should’ve went full telenovela and revealed the real Manuel was kidnapped somewhere all along and this was just his evil clone or something. Would have made more sense imo lmao

Well Marizza does have bad track record in believing all kind of nonsense. Wasn’t there another guy about to have a heart attack if she doesn’t sleep with him? Lol

I forgot haha, but that sounds Rebelde Way alright
