Rebelde Way 2×064: Varying States of Undress

Blas tells Lujan she has a fax from her tutor. Say it with me: “NO PUEDE SER!” Lujan’s mysterious tutor doesn’t want Lujan to go out with Fake Luciano. Golly, I wonder who Lujan’s tutor is, and how he knows that Lujan’s dating Fake Luciano? Could he, perhaps, have seen them together? Lujan manages to partially cotton on, and insists that Blas must know who her tutor is. How else would her tutor have this information? So close, yet so far, Lujan.

Meanwhile, over at Pablo’s den of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll, Laura and Marizza bust in and find Lola hanging out with Pablo in a state of undress. Laura hustles Lola off to go put some pants on, while Marizza starts yelling at Pablo for corrupting the youth or whatever. Pablo insists that Lola’s not here under false pretenses: they’re dating for real! Lola’s all twitterpated and runs into his arms. Laura threatens to call their parents, and Lola’s like, “Whatever.”

Sonia and Papa C meet to discuss their plan to warm Marizza up to him. Sonia frets that Marizza won’t like the plan, and Papa C’s like, “Man, you gotta set some boundaries with your daughter.” He’s not wrong. Sonia’s like, “Boundaries? What are those?” Sweetly, he tells Sonia that she doesn’t have to do it alone. He’ll help her figure out what discipline and appropriate boundaries are!

Feli’s put up some flyers asking for donations for the children’s home. It’s in Comic Sans. Oh, Feli. I’ll let it slide because we did still legitimately think Comic Sans was cool in 2003. Then Feli starts freaking out that she’s seeing Leo tonight, and Mia makes her chant, “I’m going to conquer that boy, I’m going to conquer that boy.” HEE. Then Mia gives Feli one of her rings, for luck. She says it’s lucky because she was wearing it when she met Manuel. Wasn’t he trying to kill her and her dad when they met? Whatever, it’s the thought that counts.

Tomas and Guido confront Ana about fucking up their literature exams. Tomas confronts her only slightly jerkily; Guido is a full-on jerk about it, as is his wont. Ana finally stands up for herself and snaps that she won’t let anyone talk to her like that. After 64 episodes, she’s finally growing a spine! I’m so proud of her!

Marizza and Laura manage to drag Lola back to school. Lola is pissed at Laura, unsurprisingly, but Marizza is somehow convinced that they can talk it out, and makes Laura follow her to her room. Marizza’s about to run off to the Erreway meeting, but then Carmen pops up and says she spoke to the mayor. “And guess what?” “He died?” Marizza chirps. Hee. Nope, but he did say that there was no family emergency, thus busting Marizza’s lie wide open. Oops.

Manuel slithers his way over to Mia’s room, and I mean that almost literally. Dude, you could at least try not to look so creepy. He sees her changing, and creeps that she’s super pretty. Mia freaks out, and Manuel gets all douchebro about how she shouldn’t be embarrassed of her body, and he’s seen her wear less on the beach. I will say, as much as things aren’t perfect now, girls of 2018 would be able to see through those dumbass arguments right away. Sadly, Mia can only flounder and say that she doesn’t want to, and she has to leave soon, so she really doesn’t have time to be stroking Manuel’s boner. Manuel gets all pissy that she seems to have time for everyone but him. Because you’re the worst, Manuel. He pushes her until she agrees that they can make out tonight. This is so painfully realistic and yet I don’t think the show is attempting to paint it as fucked up at all.

Remember the like, five minutes at the end of season 1, when Manuel wasn’t a creep?

Carmen drags Marizza into the teachers’ lounge, and says she knows Marizza lied to save Pablo. “Why would I lie?” Marizza blusters. “It’s obvious,” Carmen says. “Because you’re in love with him.” Then she gets all crazy and rants that she graduated from Elite Way school, so she knows what kind of drama that goes down here. And she’s known boys like Pablo, who only exist to use girls then throw them away! “Like who?” derps Marizza. “Like you! LIKE ME!” Carmen bleats. “They only want to take advantage of your weakness! They’re predators!” Oh! Kay! Marizza says she’s NOT weak, and she WON’T let Pablo take advantage of her — oh, and now she’s gotta go. Heh. Before she leaves, Carmen warns her about that pretty girls like Mia, and fuckboys like Pablo and Tomas — they’re all trouble. Marizza is a little weirded out by this.

Lujan rants to Laura that it’s not fair that Marizza is in trouble for covering for Pablo. Plus, there’s that whole craziness that she saw at his apartment — “What’s this about Marizza going to Pablo’s place?” Diego asks.

Feli goes out to meet Leo, but runs into Sol instead. She makes up a lie about meeting her mom, and Sol’s like, “Really? ‘Cause you had a look on your face like a girl who was waiting for a boy who stood her up. I’m sure that’s not what happened, though!” Then Pilar runs up, and she and Sol gush about going shopping together. They swan off, leaving Feli crushed in their wake.

Marizza tells Lujan and Laura about how Carmen finds Marizza’s love troubles totally #relatable, and she’s not in trouble anymore. Lujan praises Marizza for this, like Marizza actually DID anything besides make her dickmatization so obvious that even the literature teacher picked up on it. Marizza, though, feels uncomfortable that Carmen insulted Mia (aw!), as well as Pablo and Tomas. Laura gets all pissy at the mention of Pablo — she calls him a turd (“sorete”), which I think must be a stronger word in Spanish, because even Lujan thinks this is a step too far.  Lola still won’t talk to Laura, so they suggest getting Francisco so fix her emotional problems for her, as usual.

Mia frets over seeing Manuel tonight, and wonders if she can just stand him up. That definitely sounds like the thought processes of a girl who’s ready to have sex! Vico, who I like most days but definitely not today, is basically just like, “Suck it up and put out because your boyfriend wants you to.”

Lucky for Mia, she’s saved by Marizza, who comes in and hauls her off to Erreway’s meeting. On their way down the stairs, they run into Sonia, who chirps that she wants them to co-captain the cheerleading squad together. It’ll be super fun! Sonia suggests that they get together tonight and discuss the details. Maybe over dinner? A dinner that Papa C will also be attending? “Tonight?” Mia squeals. “That would be the great!” Heh. Poor Mia.

Meanwhile, Tomas is all emo because Ana doesn’t love him anymore. Poor dumb Tomas. Guido’s like, “Whatever, misogyny, whatever,” and Tomas storms off. Why are any of them even friends with Guido? He’s not even rich! They can’t even use him for monetary gain!

So Tomas goes running off to the cafeteria to look for Ana, because as we know, she is contractually obligated to never appear in a scene outside of there. But she’s gone, and a very stressed-out Gloria tells Tomas that Ana quit. “No puede ser,” Tomas bleats, with somewhat less credibility than Lujan up there. In the meantime, Gloria is the new cafeteria lady. HEE.

Marcos, meanwhile, is at some table writing a note for Sol. For some reason. I guess it’s meant to be mysterious, but my ability to care about Marcos has really taken a hit over these past 60 episodes. Belen sees him writing the note, and runs to tattle to Fernanda. Fernanda’s hidden boyfriend-immolating side comes out, and she goes to kick Sol’s ass. When Sol and Pilar come back from their shopping trip, Fernanda jumps Sol.

Erreway goes to meet with Sabrina’s dad. Like everyone in this series, he’s not thrilled with the idea of a three-member Erreway. He wanted an ABBA rip-off group, dammit! Sonia and Erreway try to plead with him — Marizza even tries to get her violence on — but he correctly points out that the band doesn’t have their shit together at all, and no one will sign them if they can’t manage to keep any of their members. Even Sonia is shocked silent by this righteous wave of truth. They’re saved, though, by Pablo showing up and being all, “BTW, I’m totally a member of the band!” Heh. Sabrina’s dad is like, “Yeah, that was kind of my point exactly.” Still, he agrees to listen to them.

Lujan writes an email to her tutor, demanding to know his relationship with Blas, and P.S. if she wants to date some random hobo she found on the streets, that’s her own business. She’s sixteen years old and she can do whatever the hell she wants!

Pilar confronts Marcos about the letter he sent to Sol. Marcos says he just wrote down some math notes for her, and Pilar wails that Sol and Fernanda are ripping each other’s hair out over him. He has to come help! Marcos whines that he doesn’t want to get in the middle of it. Well, damn, Marcos you could at least care a little that your girlfriend is getting the crap beaten out of her!

Erreway performs “Vas a salvarte” and of course Sabrina’s dad is won over, like all those who hear the siren song of Erreway. Sabrina comes in mid-performance and stares creepily at Manuel. It’s pretty weird. Anyway, Sabrina’s dad says that he’ll sign Erreway and they can record their first CD. I’m assuming it will be full of songs that mysteriously are already popular amongst all the youth of Buenos Aires.

Laura tries to ask Francisco for help, but he blows her off. I mean, yeah, it’s kinda selfish for her to always be asking him to intervene in her sister’s life — on the other hand, he only offers his help to her every five minutes, only to get pissed that she won’t trade sexual favors for it. Francisco is kind of a jerk.

Presumably after Sol and Fernanda finished beating each other up, and Marcos didn’t do anything about it, Marcos goes tells Fernanda that there’s NO WAY he would ever like Sol. She’s like, blonde, it’s disgusting!  Sol, who’s eavesdropping, is not happy to hear this at all. She tells Pilar that she’ll show him who likes who. Pilar’s like, “Okay…whatever that means…okay…”

Feli comes home after being stood up by Leo, and starts crying and stuffing her face with snacks. Oh, Feli. I’m sorry all your love interests are too dumb to see through Sol’s machinations.

Speaking of dumb people, as Erreway is getting signed, Sabrina is rolling up to see Francisco. She tells him the good news, and invites him out to celebrate with them. Francisco’s like, “This is my chance!”, for some reason. He plants a kiss on Sabrina instead, and she tells him that she’s not interested. He’s like, “But, but, the way you went on dates with me and led me on for like twenty episodes!” Sabrina pretends to be sorry over his heartbreak, but as soon as he leaves, she makes her trademark evil face.

After the meeting, Sonia tells Marizza and Mia that they have to get going to meet Papa C. Marizza snarks that she’s not going; Manuel smoothes that Mia also can’t go, as she has other plans for tonight. Make it weirder, Manuel. Mia blusters that they should maybe put that off, and Manuel says, “Are you shitting me?” Lmaooo fuck off, Manuel. Anyway, he reluctantly agrees. Everyone leaves except Manuel, which makes it the perfect time for Sabrina to swan in. She asks some pointed questions about how he and Mia plan to celebrate, and Manuel whines that she had better things to do, apparently. Sabrina’s like, “OMG, so your girlfriend’s not celebrating with you? That’s soooo tragic! If it were anyone else, I would say she doesn’t really care about you! But I’m sure that’s not true with you guys! Hey, we should celebrate together!” Manuel’s boner decides to go with her.

You’d think he would know Sabrina is sus on account of all those ugly-ass hats she wears.

Francisco and Laura bump into each other, literally. She asks him how it went with Sabrina, and he’s like, “I’m alone, listening to music. How do you think it went?” Okay, heh. I feel you, Francisco. Now that he’s emo over Sabrina, I guess he wants back in Laura’s good graces, because he offers to hear her out, re: Lola. Okay, see, Francisco? You were whining at Laura not to bug you about her problems anymore, and now here you are offering to help her again. Quit mixing your messages!

Vico finds Feli crying, and Feli tells her that Leo stood her up. Vico goes off to get Feli some water, and on her way, she runs into Leo. Boys in this show are really fond of showing up in person, when they could resolve most of their issues in a phone call. But whatever. Vico chews him out (aw! I love when she’s a good friend to Feli!), and Leo’s dumb ass is all, “Uh, she stood ME up!” and Vico’s like, “What?” but then we cut away and we don’t get to see him explain himself. Dammit, show! I want to see him squirm! Anyway, Leo goes to see Feli, and he tells her that Mia said she was busy. Feli’s like, “Say what?”

Francisco tries to talk Lola out of dating Pablo, but she’s like, “Our love is real!” I don’t know what response he expected from a 15-year-old. Francisco tells her that Pablo is just trying to make Marizza jealous. Lola thinks he’s saying that nobody could like her for real, and she storms off.

Marizza, Mia, and Sonia wait for Papa C at Casa Colucci. Marizza snarks that she and Mia look like the before-and-after picture for a lobotomy, and Mia kind of proves her wrong by explaining to Sonia what a lobotomy is. I love when Mia gets to be smart. Sonia snarks that she doesn’t need to take it out on them just because she’s mad that Pablo has a new girlfriend. HA! Then Papa C waltzes in with hot dogs and fries for dinner, to appeal to Marizza’s palate. Marizza snaps that she’s a vegetarian, Sonia snaps that she’s not, and Mia snaps that she won’t eat hot dogs or fries. And then Papa C knocks the food over. So this is going well! Then they try to watch a movie and more craziness ensues. Marizza notices that Mia isn’t as into the shenanigans, and Mia sighs that she’s worried about Manuel. She didn’t give in to his every sexual whim, and now she’s afraid he’s upset.

Cut to: Manuel and Sabrina, drinking champagne in her dad’s office. Manuel’s like, “This is not what I thought you meant by celebrate, but sure, I’ll roll with it,” because he is dumb. Sabrina tells him she’s not into Francisco, and Manuel starts waxing on about what an amazing person she is and how much he admires her and blah blah he’s going to cheat on Mia blah. I hate him. Sabrina insists that she just wants to be Manuel’s friend and help him out. You know, in his pants.

Marizza and Mia go back to school so Mia can see Manuel. Sonia and Papa C are like, “The kids are gone, huh?” and then they start making out. Heh. I bet Marizza and Mia didn’t want to see that anyway. Back at school, Marizza gives Mia a pep talk, and says that if Mia wants to have sex with Manuel, she should do it. Mia says she does want to, and Marizza says she shouldn’t let fear or shame hold her back. Okay, that’s decent advice, and this is a very sweet moment — but at this point, I don’t feel like Manuel deserves to have sex ever again, just on principle. Anyway, Mia thanks Marizza and runs off.

Meanwhile, Sabrina’s stroking Manuel’s ego, telling him how kind and mature he is. Manuel? Mature? He’s twenty years old and all his friends are sixteen. “If I were your girlfriend, I’d give you everything,” Sabrina says, and then they make out.

I’m starting to think Erreway is actually some kind of undercover government operation to hypnotize people, tbh.

Manuel is such a stupid douche. Stop thinking with your penis, Manuel!

“Nothing can defeat the penis!” – I’m assuming this is going to be Manuel’s excuse when Mia finally finds out about Sabrina.

tbf manuel is not the old dude u are making him out to be , he should be like 18 by now , dont be confuse by felipe colombo real age

    1. Em Avatar

Yeah, I don’t think they outright say Manuel’s real age, so I figured he was in his late teens and started joking that he was 20, and somewhere over the course of 10 years I forgot it was a joke, oops. In my defense, 18 is still way too old to be repeating sophomore year of high school. You’re wasting your youth, Manuel!!
