Rebelde Way 2×044: Apparently 15 Year Olds are Adults

I ended up not getting this done last week because I had to wake up at 8 in the morning to go see Thor: Ragnorak with my friend. In hindsight? Would wake up at 8 AM to see my friend again, would not wake up for Thor. It was okay. I’m confused that people think it’s the best Thor movie so far. But whatever!

Luckily, this is actually a pretty short episode, story-wise. Erreway finally reunites and gets their charity gig together, so let’s see how that’s going, shall we?

Erreway rolls up to the Parque de la Costa, and are all shocked at the amount of screaming fans waiting for them. What? You guys sold out the Gran Rex! Your popularity should not shock you! The second they get out of the car, they’re absolutely mobbed, and they have to run to escape their fans. Where is all the money from their gigs going? Are they getting paid peanuts to perform at some of the biggest venues in the country? They really need security.

Pilar, meanwhile, is faking sick to distract Dunoff from Erreway’s escape. Pretty much all the other main characters snuck out with the band, too, which basically means that Pilar is left out yet again. This is why doing the right thing sucks. Mama D and Dunoff start fighting over how sick she is, exactly, and Mama D says she’s calling in a doctor for both of them, because her whole family is fucked up. Fair enough, Mama D. Dunoff is like, “Ha ha, I’m just worried about Pilar! Kids are crazy, right! Imagine having two kids! Imagine having one legit daughter and one out of wedlock! Like, hypothetically!” and Mama D’s like, “What the fuck?”

Aaand it’s suddenly nighttime(?) and the show is about to start. Marizza’s freaking out, for some reason, like she hasn’t performed in front of a shrieking audience a million times before. Sonia has to give her an inspirational speech about how she’s full of inner light and when she gets on stage, everyone will realize how awesome she is.

The concert begins, and Mia thanks all their sponsors and all the television stations for sending their cameras. Way to keep it a secret! Dunoff, Papa B, and Papa C will never find out after it’s been broadcasted on 10 TV shows! Anyway, then they perform “Tiempo” and OH MY GOD THEY ARE ACTUALLY PERFORMING LIVE. I guess it could be worse. I used to listen to Morning Musume, so I have a pretty high tolerance. Also, where the hell did they get a backing band from? The whole thing’s interspersed with shots of the other kids freaking out, and shots of the actual audience.

Over in some car, Papa B gets in, and hears some lady gushing on the radio about how awesome the Erreway concert is, and how talented Mia, Manuel, Pablo, and Marizza are. Papa B’s like, “Aw, hell no.”

Back at Sonia’s house, Hilda’s needling Andres: “I’m working,” he tells her. “What a surprise,” she deadpans. He’s looking up Martavio’s supposed brother, so Sonia can keep investigating him. Hilda’s like, “Great! I’ll look up the brother, and you can look for another apartment!” Hee.

Then the doorbell rings, and who should arrive but Papa C? Hilda’s like, “This is awkward” and skedaddles, and Andres and Papa C get into a pissing match over Sonia. Over Sonia? Love yourselves, guys. Well, maybe not Andres. Sonia’s so far out of his league it’s not even funny. Andres tells Papa C that he and Sonia are dating, which Papa C is not happy about. Oh, and Andres tells Papa C that Mia’s performing in the Erreway show. Nice going, Andres.

Erreway performs “Será de Dios,” while the whole audience waves lighters or cell phones or whatever. You’d think they would’ve saved that for later, what with all the drama over getting the song from Rocco.

Back at school, Diego’s all emo over leaving Marizza Motion. Pilar comes by to talk to him, and she asks why he isn’t at the show, given all the work he put into it. Diego scowls that all Marizza ever thinks about is Pablo. Duh, Diego, it’s taken you this long to figure out? Pilar tries to convince him to fight for his love, but Diego’s like, “Love is a lie!” and storms off.

(ETA: I just realized I spent this entire paragraph calling Diego Francisco. In my defense, they look the same.)

Piru Saez Rocco and Victoria Maurette Vico get to do solos. Good for them, I think they’re probably the most genuinely talented, music-wise, of the cast. Meanwhile, Papa B calls the city council and tells them to shut the concert at the Parque de la Costa down. And over at Vico’s house, her dad is flipping through channels and sees her performing. Who could have seen this coming?

Erreway is suddenly on their last song. How long is this concert? Like twenty minutes? They invite everyone to sing along to the song — which turns out to be “Para Cosas Buenas.” That song only has like five words, so I guess that makes sense. (Guido headbangs along. Ha!) After they’re done, Papa B finally shows up. Way to shut down the concert after it’s already over, Papa B. Marizza spies him from the stage and announce his presence to everyone there, and he has to smile and wave and pretend like he’s here to support Erreway. Thus, the show finishes without incident, and Papa B has to hold off on yelling at everyone until later.

Dunoff has a nightmare that he’s confirmed as Marizza’s father. Apparently in Dunoff’s nightmare world, paternity tests are just slips of paper with “POSITIVE” written on them in Times New Roman. Then he imagines himself raising a baby with Sonia, with Sonia bossing him around while she watches TV. Uh, Dunoff? Marizza’s 15 years old now. Sonia’s not gonna make you change her diaper. Mama D finds him sleeping and tries to wake him up, and Dunoff sleeptalks, “No, Sonia, I can’t leave my family.” Mama D is not happy.

Papa B rocks up to Sonia after the show and compliments her on having such a wily daughter. He’s like, “My son could never pull off such an underhanded move, because he’s an idiot, and also I hate him.” Sonia’s like, “Dude, what the hell.” Pablo overhears his dad insulting him, and Papa B drags him off to fight with him further. Marizza’s all shocked that Papa B would treat his own son like that. Marizza, you’ve only seen him abuse Pablo like a million times. Then again, she does tend to forget about Pablo’s abusive home life whenever it’s convenient for her. Sonia’s like, “Whatever, let’s talk about the show!” and Marizza’s like, “It was so awesome! I was so nervous, I can’t believe it turned out so well!” YOU GUYS LITERALLY SOLD OUT THE ENTIRE GRAN REX!

Sonia tells Marizza that the most important part is still to come. And then we dramatically cut to a commercial. Oh, wait, was that supposed to be a cliffhanger? (Note from the future: No, no it was not. And we never find out what the most important part is.)

Pilar confesses to Mama D that Erreway and everyone snuck out, and she was covering for them. Mama D’s like, “Eh, whatever, that’s business as usual.” She’s too emotionally worn down to get upset over Erreway, and Pilar cottons on that something’s up. She sighs that she’s tired of her parents fighting, and Mama D says she won’t have to worry about that much longer. “What does that mean?” Pilar wonders, but then the rest of the kids return and distract her. Fernanda runs down and wants to know how it went, and Marcos is all, “OMG, let me tell you!” and they run off together. Lujan is all heartbroken.

Speaking of hearts and the shenanigans thereof, Rocco compliments Vico on her performance, and she compliments him on his. Then Guido runs up and snarks that Vico must be tired, and Rocco’s like, “She’s definitely not tired,” and Vico blows them both off. Hee. Guido and Rocco glare at each other.

Andres tells Sonia that Papa C came by with flowers for her, and Sonia’s all, “I am appalled! But also a little turned on.” I don’t know how Andres went from “Sonia and Papa C are clearly obsessed with each other” to “I can totally make Sonia love me” in the span of a few episodes. That’s what I get for taking a week off. Anyway, Hilda comes back in and chirps that Andres has found another place to live, isn’t that excellent? Andres is pissed at her.

Back at Pablo’s apartment, Papa B reads him the riot act, again, some more. Papa B slaps down the bills for the apartment and snaps that he’s been paying for everything, but from now on, Pablo is cut off! Wait, didn’t he already cut Pablo off? Wasn’t that the reason Pablo wanted to get paid for gigs? And what kind of shitty discipline was that in the first place? “Oh, you’re totally cut off, but I’ll keep paying for you to live by yourself in a nice apartment!” Pablo’s like, “Whatever, I don’t need you! I’m 15 years old and I’m completely independent!”

Mia and Vico come back to school all aflutter over their success at the concert. Papa C’s already there, waiting for Mia. He lectures her and she snaps back that she’s 15 years old and she can do whatever she wants. “When you’re 18, then you can do what you want,” Papa C snaps back. Oh thank God, these kids had me thinking for a second that 15 was the age of adulthood in Argentina.

“You mean I can’t vote?”

Tomás and Guido wonder for a second where Pablo is, then they’re like, “He’s probably hooking up with some girl, whatever.” Do these kids even know Pablo? He has like, no game, at all. Anyway, Tomás changes the subject and is like, “Sooo Rocco has a thing for Vico, huh?” and Guido’s like, “Impossible!” Then Rocco walks in, and Tomás congratulates him on a show well done. Aw, Tomás cares! Tomás brings up Vico, and Rocco says they’ve been going out for a while now. Sure, I bet this won’t blow up in his face at all. Guido’s all pissed: “Yeah, I broke up with her, but I didn’t say she could date anyone else!” Tomás is like, “Ugh, women, they just do what they want.” Yeah! How dare Vico, a fully autonomous human being, date someone else after Guido dumped her!

Papa C makes Mia go back to Casa Colucci with him, and then they’re off to France. Mia wants to wait to see Manuel, but Papa C is pissed and won’t let her. Mia tells Feli and Vico to keep an eye on Manuel for her. “Why? He’ll be fine,” derps Feli. Mia awkwards that she and Manuel haven’t…you know…they haven’t…like…done…haven’t…”They haven’t slept together,” Vico cuts in. Ha! Mia says she’s worried Manuel will meet another girl (an “easy” girl, as she puts it), and he’ll cheat on her. I feel like this isn’t quite healthy. Anyway, she also gives Feli a note to pass on to Manuel.

The next day, Guido bangs into Mia’s room at like 7 in the morning to ask Vico if she and Rocco are really going out. Calm the fuck down, Guido. Vico stares at him for a moment, then confirms: “It’s true.” Oh my God, are she and Rocco going to fake date? I would give my entire soul for that. Guido does not know when to drop it, though, so he goes back to threaten Rocco that if he hurts Vico, Guido will beat him up. Rocco’s like, “Okay, whatever.”

Over at Sonia’s house, Marizza’s getting woken up early, too. Hilda insists on feeding her breakfast, and Marizza’s not particularly happy that her history teacher has waltzed into her house and is suddenly babysitting her. It does sound pretty weird when you put it like that. Marizza and Andres groan that they can’t stand Hilda, and decide to team up to get rid of her. Aw, that’s just mean. It’s not like you even live at your house most of the time, Marizza.

Vico goes back to her house, too — why is everyone going home? Don’t they usually spend the weekend at school, creating drama for themselves? — and her dad gushes about how proud of her he is. Sadly, it’s all a ruse, and he starts hitting her up for money. He gets all emotionally abusive about how he pays for her to go school, and she needs to start pulling her weight. Vico insists she doesn’t have any money, as the concert was for charity, and he starts threatening that he’ll get it from her any way he has to. Creepy! Vico BSes that she has some money at school, so she’ll just go back and get it.

Blas catches Pilar coming back to school, and wants to know where she was. “At my house,” Pilar says. Blas is disbelieving: “At your house?” Ha! Not gonna lie, I was half-expecting him to be like, “What house? Don’t you live here at the school?” She wants to know why he’s asking, but he won’t tell her. Suspicious!

Andres and Marizza go over their plans to get rid of Hilda. Andres has got nothing; Marizza thinks they should just kill her. Heh. Eventually they decide to find a guy to squat in her apartment, and she’ll have to go over there to kick him out. Could they not just…tell her about a squatter, instead of letting an actual stranger into her home?

Feli’s getting ready to out with Alex when Blas pops up and cockblocks them. Man, I cannot get over how weird he looks without facial hair. Anyway, he’s decided that because Pilar went out without permission, that means…none of them can out? Like so many of this school’s rules, it’s unclear. Also, she’s in trouble for having a boy in her bedroom. Alex is like, “Say what?” Oh, now Blas is just fucking with them.

Hilda wants to know why Sonia’s so obsessed with finding Martin Andrade, and Sonia says nobody can know about her relationship with Dunoff, so if Spirito’s not Marizza’s dad, hopefully it’s “Octavio”, and Martin can give her information about him. What? Okay, that makes no sense, but whatever. Forget it Jake, it’s Rebelde Way.

Feli’s hanging out with Sol; Rocco’s trying to talk to Vico. Vico pulls Feli off to the side asks her for money. Sol snarks to Rocco that Vico uses people — just look at her hitting up Feli for money. Rocco, of course, won’t think ill of his lady love, and insists that Vico must be in some kind of serious mess for her do this. I mean, she is, but I like how Rocco’s jumping to unlikely conclusions to defend a girl he’s just started to know a few weeks ago.

Tomás and Guido go over to Pablo’s apartment, where Pablo is freaking out about how expensive his bills are. “Who’s talking so much on the phone?!” he shrieks. “You, dumbass,” Tomás and Guido say. Hee. Pablo blames Marizza for making Erreway take the charity gig, and Tomás and Guido are like, “Ugh, here we go again.” I mean…seriously, what was stopping them from just rescheduling the charity concert and doing both shows?

Adulting is hard, especially when you’re a sophomore in high school.

Manuel finally gets his butt back to school a million years later. Feli gives him the note from Mia, and it’s as sappy as you’d expect. Manuel is all twitterpated, but then someone comes to see him. Whoever it is, his buzz is pretty harshed. Until next time!
