Opening monologue: Sometimes giving up isn’t a bad thing; we need to grow up and find true love, or whatever.
So it looked like Blas was all about to bust Manuel’s cover and literally 128 episodes later, we might actually get to the whole point of the show. But no. Papa C blows Blas off and he and Manuel waltz away together. Blas is all, “Curses, foiled again!” He’s also weirdly supportive of Mia’s decision to move into Sonia’s house, probably because he can perv on her easier there.
The boys continue their plot to force Hilda together with a man she’s repeatedly said she doesn’t like. They trick her into crashing Hilario and Gloria’s date, and she’s hella snippy when she sees them together. “Just so you know, sweetie, he could have a heart attack at any moment,” she snipes at Gloria. Heh. Gloria excuses herself, and Hilario’s all like, “She makes me feel young again!” Hilda’s all bitter, and he’s like, “You’re jealous because you like me!” Whatever.
Sonia’s at Elite Way with Marizza and Nico when Papa B rolls up into their conversation. He’s all salty at her over Erreway, but she blows him off — she won’t tell him anything about the band, and she obviously won’t change the theater. Has Papa B ever considered just Googling Erreway? Pablo thanks Sonia for helping him, and she snipes that she did it for Erreway, and she still hates him. “By the way, my daughter feels nothing for you,” she adds. I wonder if Sonia will have matured even one iota by the time the show ends.
Luna and Vico talk about Feli. Luna’s actually pretty smart and has figured out a pattern to Feli’s vomiting; it usually happens after a boy rejects Feli or she fights with her friends, etc. They agree that they should keep an eye on her after the disaster with Camilo. Then Sandra rocks up and is like, “Luna, I’m so glad you’re going to Disneyland! I always wanted to go to Disneyland, but alas, I am too poor and my youthful dreams of going were crushed by the cold cruel world, but you can go for me! It’s my dying wish!” Way to lay it on, Sandra. Luna’s all upset because she has to tell Sandra she’s not going. Martyring yourself for two people at once is so hard!
Marizza throws enough of a fit about Mia staying in her house that Sonia agrees to back off of the plan. Aw, dammit, I was looking forward to Marizza and Papa C being wacky together 🙁 I think Marizza and Sonia can both be pretty unbearable, but Papa C and Mia really temper their respective issues — Mia usually has better intentions than Marizza (or at least is usually less sanctimonious about what she’s doing), so Sonia’s enabling of her is less irritating. Similarly, Papa C’s more rational in his targets of ire, so watching him and Marizza be sarcastic dicks is a lot more enjoyable when it’s directed at someone who actually deserves it. Anyway, Sonia changes the subject: what’s Simon like? Who are his parents? What do they do? What are Simon’s goals? Marizza’s like, “Pfft, none of that is important information to know!” She admits that she doesn’t know anything about Simon. Jesus. I bet he’s lowkey a serial killer or something. The one thing Marizza does know is that they both want to go to Machu Picchu, and Sonia’s like, “Alone? Aw, hell no.”
Pepa goes along with Nacho’s scheme to fire Peter, because at no point did it occur to her to not stoop to a 9-year-old’s level. They tell Peter that Sonia’s fired him, and he goes to give her a farewell letter. Naturally Sonia waits until Peter’s left to read it, then she flips out: “Why did you leave me, Peter?” she wails. Then: “COLUCCI!!!”
Over at Casa Colucci, Papa C gives Manuel two checks: one for Mia’s tuition next year, and one for Manuel’s, so Manuel won’t be a scholarship student anymore. Manuel tells him that he won’t be in Argentina next year, and Papa C’s like, “But we have 200 more episodes to go!”
Blas can’t find Mia, so he sits down to write her an email about Manuel. He tells her that Papa Aguirre invested money in a collection for Papa C, but Papa C ended up not selling it, and Papa Aguirre shot himself. Manuel blames Papa C for his dad’s death, and he’s been in Argentina, toiling away in high school this entire time, for REVENGE!
What I’ve really learned from this scene, though, is that Blas cannot type. Keep your fingers on the home keys, bro!
Night falls, and Marizza heads to the sad trailer for rehearsal. Pablo reminds her that she owes him a date, and she’s like, “Yeah, being reminded that you’re forcing me to date you again is not endearing you to me.” Manuel and Nico show up, but not Mia, so Manuel runs off to look for her. Vico tells him that Mia got a letter from Blas and now she doesn’t want to see anyone. Manuel’s like, “Oh crap.”
Sonia sits Pepa and Nacho down and chirps that since Pepa’s taking care of Nacho now, she needs more free time to be a mom. So Sonia’s letting her go! Pepa’s like, “You can’t do that, I won’t last more than a week at any other job!” Sonia chirps that Peter can help her, and Nacho blurts out that they got rid of him. Nice going. Pepa, amazingly, turns out not to have known anything about the plot at all — she legitimately thought Sonia fired Peter — because she’s so dumb she got played by Nacho. Jesus Christ. Then they all hug and make up instead of shipping Nacho off to somewhere where I don’t have to watch him.
Manuel goes back and tells everyone that Mia’s sleeping. They all freak out because, as you recall, THERE MUST ALWAYS BE FOUR. Nico suggests that the three of them go ahead and practice, and Manuel’s like, “What’s the point of ONLY THREE of us practicing?” Uh…so you can get the songs right, even if Mia’s not there? Do they not know how rehearsal works?
Vico’s doing a terrible job at stalking Feli, because Feli’s sitting on her bed, eating her feelings. Instead, Blas stalks Feli, following her into the bathroom. EW! EW! OH MY GOD!!! That’s like code fucking red of creepy shit. He overhears Feli vomiting and…maybe looks concerned? It’s hard to tell. If he’s being a decent person for once, might I suggest not framing him as coming out of the shadows and silently following her into the bathroom?
Papa C emos to Mercedes that Manuel’s going back to Mexico. He’s like, “I love him as if he were my own son, and not a rando who came to this country just to stab me!” As usual, Mercedes is all offended that Papa C cares about anyone besides her. She’s kinda like that lady from Audition, isn’t she? Just without the murder, presumably. Mercedes switches the topic to Mia living in Sonia Rey’s house, and then weirdly tells Papa C not to mention Sonia to her. Uh, you brought her up, Mercedes. Then Papa C says that Peter doesn’t work for Sonia anymore, so he can come back and work for him. Mercedes is all pissy about this.
Pablo tells Marizza he can’t deal with his dad anymore. Marizza’s like, “So do what you want,” and Pablo’s like, “But I can’t.” This must be the millionth time they’ve had this conversation. Apparently Pablo’s “date” involves them having a picnic on the pool table. Romantic! Pablo says the only time he stood up to Papa B was when he and Marizza were together, because Marizza makes him feel like anything’s possible. He apologizes to her for the bet again, but Marizza shoots him down. Don’t worry, Pablo. She’ll find those bodies in Simon’s garden any day now. He says he knows she wants to get back together, and she says she has to think about it and give him her answer tomorrow. Suspense! Pablo and Marizza lie in their separate rooms and flashback to all the good times. Aw, these two really were cute together.
Tomás interrupts Pablo’s flashbacking to ask how his date went, and Pablo says he thinks Marizza will get back together with him. I don’t know, man. We still have 11(!) episodes left, there’s still ample time to drag this shit out. Pablo says that everything will be different this time — he’ll be ~rebelde~ and confront Papa C about being in Erreway. Tomás is like, “What the fuck, are you trying to get yourself punched?” Still, he admires that Pablo knows what he wants; Tomás has no idea. Oh, Tomás. I’d wager there’s a lot of things he doesn’t know.
The next day, Luna has to break the news to Sandra that she’s not going to Disneyland. Sandra takes it hella personally, and is all mad that Luna wants to spend the summer with Nico instead. I mean, I’m kind of on Sandra’s side — it’s not like she can’t go to the beach with Nico next summer — but it’s just a theme park. It’s not like they’re going to New York and staying at the Plaza or some shit. Anyway, Luna emos that she doesn’t want to go to Disneyland without Flor. As usual, Sandra’s like, “I disagree with your life decisions and think that you have to stand on your own, and yet I will enable you anyway.”
Blas tells Vico that he heard Feli vomiting last night. Vico’s like, “No puede ser!” Man, she needs to step up her stalking game. Maybe she can get tips from Manuel. Blas says he won’t tell Dunoff, but he wants Mia to know since she’s Feli’s friend. Vico’s all confused by Blas not being a total douche. Vico goes to talk to Feli, and for once Feli doesn’t get mad and deny it; she starts crying that she doesn’t know how to control it. Aw, Feli 🙁
Marizza hides from Pablo to avoid giving him an answer about her feelings. She confesses her confusion to Lujan, and Lujan’s like, “I know what to do. Give me your phone.” For some reason, Marizza hands it over. To Lujan? Oh, this will end well. Lujan calls Simon to the school, and chirps that he’s the only one that can help Marizza. “I’m gonna kill you, Lujan,” Marizza says. Hee! But seriously, in what world did Lujan think she was being helpful? Simon takes the news pretty well, and says he’ll wait for Marizza to choose. Go back to college, Simon!
The kids ask Gloria how Hilda and Hilario’s date went, and she assures them that she did their part. So does she get to hook up with Hilario’s hot nephew now or later? “What nephew?” derps Tomás. Gloria says that if they lied to her, she’s going to punish them all. Nice going, guys.
Sonia calls Casa Colucci and Peter picks up, as he’s waiting to be reinstated by Papa C. Sonia’s like, “No, my bargaining chip!” and hustles off to Casa Colucci. She tries to win Peter back, she and Papa C fight, blah blah blah. Papa C wins by appealing to Sonia’s affection for Mia, and he asks if they can be friends. Sonia agrees, and they smile all twitterpated at each other. Then Papa C gets a call from the US embassy that Mia’s visa has been rejected, and Sonia’s like, “Whoops.” Then they fight again.
Pablo’s fretting over Marizza’s decision. When Tomás and Guido make fun of him, he’s like, “Our love is the greatest love to have ever loved!” “What, are you saying what me and Vico have isn’t important?” Guido asks. I mean, if Guido’s involved, it’s really not. Marizza knocks on the door and tells Pablo that she’s made her decision. Then it…bizarrely cuts to Simon. Marizza comes up to him, tells him that she’s decided, and makes out with him. So…not Pablo, then. She’s like, “Let’s go to Machu Picchu!” Uh…is Marizza just using Simon for the free vacation? Simon’s like, “So…do you think Pablo’s still going to play the Erreway show?” Marizza’s like, “Yeah, probably, whatever.”
Honestly, all I’ve really learned from this whole Simon/Marizza subplot is that I’m never gonna be able to spell Macchu Pichu Machu Picchu right on the first try. Every time I think I have it, I fuck up 🙁
In Pablo’s room, Guido and Tomás try to comfort him. They suggest that he ruin Simon’s life, potentially through some machinations of Papa B. Guido of all people is the voice of reason, and says that Pablo has to win Marizza back on his own, without his dad interfering.
Mansilla waltzes into the teachers’ lounge and kisses Renata on the cheek. Hee! She’s all salty that he made her think he was dating Mama D, because she wanted Mama D to convince him to stay. Mansilla’s like, “For real? :D” Renata asks what Mansilla’s planning to do, and Mansilla says he still doesn’t know how to tell the students.
Lujan and the tertiary girls plot to find a hot guy to pass off as Hilario’s nephew. Random Amanda suggests her uncle — he’s nice, funny; they just have to wait for him to get out of jail. HEE! Then she suggests that they pool their money and hire a “companion.” I’m pretty sure that’s just code for male escort. I love Random Amanda.
Manuel frets to Nico that Blas told Mia about his vengeance. Then some rando drops off an envelope from Papa C, and Manuel’s like, “This is his revenge on my revenge!” Nico’s like, “Open it!” and Manuel’s like, “No, I’ll do it later.” F YOU, MANUEL, DO NOT DRAG THIS SHIT OUT ANY LONGER THAN WE ALREADY HAVE. Nico, God love him, rips the envelope open for him. It’s not revenge at all — Papa C’s sent along the tuition check, and is ALSO frickin’ offering Manuel a house for his family to live in if they want to come to Argentina. Manuel’s like, the fuck am I gonna kill him now? Nico suggests that Manuel can leverage this against Blas, to show that Papa C won’t believe anything Blas says about him.
Vico brings Feli some books about bulimia. Feli’s like, “What for?” and Vico’s like, “Because you have it, duh.” She reads some information about bulimia out loud for all the impressionable children watching this — “In some extreme cases, it can end in death.” Feli’s like, “OMG, I didn’t know I could die from this!” The books says Feli probably needs therapy, but they decide to try the power of friendship first. Feli’s sure that Vico and Mia will help her. Man, that’s a lot of pressure to put on two teenagers.
The girls steal Dunoff’s newspaper to look through the classifieds for a male escort. Pilar comes in, and Marizza leads them in needling her for lying about Mansilla. Pilar swears it’s true, and Marizza’s like, “I am right and you are wrong, goodbye.” Mansilla comes in and they’re like, “What is the truth?” Mansilla’s like, “Yikes.” How’s that high horse about not lying to children working out for him now?
