Previously on Rebelde Way: Nico’s dad was dying for like the entire episode, and then he didn’t. I feel cheated tbh.
When we last left our heroes, Marizza was like, “You should do whatever the hell you want. What do you want to do right now?” and Pablo was like “Dang I hella wanna make out with you”, so they did. And we get to watch that all over again. Another cold open! This is crazy.
Blah blah theme song blah. Opening monologue: Sometimes we fight with our friends and find out that they’re different from us, but if we’re mature enough, we can make up with them. Fair enough.
Pablo and Marizza finish making out and Marizza’s like, “So THAT’s what you wanted to do?” Pablo’s like NO, I totally just like…heard someone coming, so I made out with you to keep up the ruse that we’re dating! IT WAS THE ONLY OPTION. Marizza pokes her head out into the hall and is like, “There’s no one out there.” Pablo’s like, “Stop saying words.” Marizza looks a little bummed that he’s giving her the brush-off, but then Mia storms in shrieking and Pablo has to run off after her.
Clinic. Mama Provenza’s all snippy with Nico for hiding his Judaism. She needles him about not having any Jewish friends, and I guess for lying to her all the way back in episode 3 about there being other Jews in the school. Nico tries to stick around and help her out all like, “It’s no big deal if I skip class, it’s not like any learning goes on at this school anyway” but Mama Provenza’s all like, “LEAVE ME, TRAITOR.” (Why is it Nico’s responsibility to vet his school for Jewish friends anyway? If it’s such a big deal, Mama Provenza should’ve sent him to another school or made him join a club or something.) Nico sadly heads back to school.
Marizza, Lujan, Luna, and for some reason Belen are walking down the hall together. Marizza isn’t worried that Mia will tattle on her to Dunoff, but then she runs into Mia and they get into an argument so loudly that it attracts his attention anyway. Good job, guys. He hauls them off to his office and Mia spills everything. Dunoff’s like, whoa, that is a pretty shitty thing to do to Mia, and Marizza’s like, “Well, she was eavesdropping on my phone conversation!” and Dunoff’s like, “Damn good point, this is Mia’s fault too!” Mia protests that Marizza was talking loudly (which she was) but Dunoff’s like, “Discipline is hard. Hug it out and we’ll call it even.” They do, but promise to have a rumble in the gym later. As they leave, Gloria asks Mia how Papa C’s doing, and is all twitterpated that “he” sent her a gift. She gives Mia a present to give Papa C in return. Oh, Gloria.
Mansilla tries to talk to Lulu about the dance competition thing again: the girls are as important as the boys, and Lulu should care about their feelings just as much as she cares about being validated by a bunch of teenage boys. Lulu’s like, “Dunoff supports me,” and Mansilla’s like, “Yeah, that’s not exactly a ringing endorsement.” Just kidding, but it’s true.
Classroom. Mansilla gives back everyone’s essays about their dads. Pablo’s all amazed that he got a 7 (which I think is like a B), despite not actually doing the assignment. I guess Mansilla gave him the grade solely based on their deep talks about Pablo’s issues. Then class is suddenly over, as usual. Mansilla asks Nico to stay behind so they can talk about Papa Provenza, but then he sees Lulu and the econ teacher walk by and is like, “Hold that thought, I gotta go cockblock them. Brb.” Lulu and the econ teacher stop in the hallway, and he hella creepily tries to get her to invite him to her house (he wants to have dinner at her place; she tells him she’d prefer to eat out; he says she can cook for him; she deflects and says she’s a bad cook; he smoothes that he’d eat a TV dinner if she made it. CREEPY). Mansilla does the exact thing Marizza did last episode, and rolls up talking loudly on his phone about how the econ teacher’s wife wants to talk to him. Oh, Mansilla.
Mercedes and Papa C meet to talk about Sonia’s lawsuit/uncomfortably hit on each other some more. Mercedes takes out her notes on the case and starts showing Papa C how it’s all BS and Sonia made all her injuries up. I mean, I get that that’s true and also that Mercedes is all up on Papa C’s dick, but isn’t that kind of unprofessional? Whatever. Meanwhile, Sonia, Pepa, and Nacho are jogging in the park. Why is Nacho still here? Haven’t I suffered enough? He whines that he’s hungry, and they send him off to a cafe. The very cafe that Mercedes and Papa C are at! (Mercedes bizarrely starts cooing over Nacho like, you don’t even know this kid.) It’s a good thing Buenos Aires is such a small town with only a few eating establishments, otherwise they couldn’t just conveniently run into each other like this.
Mansilla and the econ teacher run into each other in the office. “Bootylicious” starts playing in the background, so you know it’s on now. Nico pops in and says he’s ready to talk to Mansilla before the two of them can rumble though. In the teachers’ lounge, Nico tells Mansilla all his life problems and Mansilla tells him a story about a Jewish guy who said the most important thing in his life was hope, because it’s the only thing that can’t be taken from a person. Nico is all inspired and shit.
Vico’s brother Augusto shows up at school. Vico, as ever, erroneously assumes that he’s here for her instead of to hit on Feli. Feli’s all twitterpated and heads off with him, while Vico pouts to Mia. Mia’s like, “Yeah your brother’s a dick but let’s worry about me now.” She wails to Vico that she needs help putting together an outfit for her rumble with Marizza. HEE.
Cafeteria. Guido and Tomás are having fun jokes when Joaquin rolls up and is like, “Yo Tomás we gotta talk about drugs some more.” Guido watches them suspiciously.
Econ teacher and Mansilla rumble. Econ teacher is all yelling at Mansilla for messing in his personal life (fair, as much as I hate to admit it) and accuses him of liking Lulu. That’s really how it looks, doesn’t it? Which is kind of weird because according to Wikipedia, Mansilla doesn’t end up with her. Idk. Anyway, Dunoff hauls them off to the office to yell at them for fighting. He’s like, “Dang, try to act more mature than the 15-year-olds you teach.” Mansilla gets all huffy and stomps out, and the econ teacher warns Dunoff that Mansilla is DANGEROUS and Dunoff should watch his back. Dunoff’s like, “I would know if Mansilla is planning treachery! Nothing gets by me!” HA!
Augusto and Feli hang out. He tells her that he came to check on her since heard Mia reaming her out over the phone the other day. Feli hems and haws that she and Mia have fights but they’re still besties. “You’re very mature for your age,” Augusto smoothes. Ick. She’s so mature that he wants to take her to a party at his work (what) and she can hang out with his coworkers (WHAT)! Silly Feli thinks that’s exciting instead of incredibly weird.
Econ teacher tells Lulu that yes, he is technically still married, but his relationship with his wife isn’t great (which is like, Gross Married Man Pickup Line #1), and Lulu ~opened his eyes~ and made him realize he didn’t want to be with Mrs. Econ Teacher. Lulu rightfully is like, “You’re gross” and runs away. Econ teacher is all pissed off that his plan to cheat on his wife with the 20-year-old dance teacher has been foiled.
Mercedes rolls up to Sonia and tells her that she doesn’t feel comfortable representing Sonia against Papa C; the car accident was pretty much all Sonia’s fault and she barely had any injuries, so, Mercedes is backing out. She suggests Sonia drop the suit and just talk it out with Papa C, and Sonia’s all offended that she can’t sue Papa C for millions for bumping her car. After Mercedes leaves, frickin’ Nacho’s like, “Oooh, I bet she backed out because she’s friends with Papa C!” Sonia’s like, “That must be the only reason she dropped out, and my plan is in fact perfectly sane!” She gets all twitterpated at the idea of getting to fight even more people.
Gym. Mia and her gang of girls demand an explanation from Lulu about the dance competition. Lulu caves and snaps that it was a boys-only competition, and Mia is all offended that Lulu…didn’t find another competition for the girls, I guess? It’s not super clear. I mean, I think the whole boys-in-the-dance-class thing is super unfair to the girls because A) they didn’t want the boys in the club to begin with, B) the boys should’ve just made their own club instead of horning in on the girls’ work, and C) it kind of comes off like Lulu likes being validated by the boys perving on her (love yourself, Lulu) and so gives them preferential treatment. But I don’t know what Mia expects her to do now. ANYWAY, Lulu’s like, “Stop asking questions” and tells them that Dunoff is backing her up and they can just leave if they don’t like how she’s running the club. Is she a worse teacher than Alicia? She might be, but it’s hard to tell. She also tells them that this is a mandatory class, which…it is? First it was a club, then it was a class that the boys somehow didn’t have to take, and now it’s mandatory. I don’t know anymore.
After class, Mia shows up to rumble with Marizza, and…oh, Mia.
Marizza’s like, “Yeah, I’m not going to fight you while you’re wearing that outfit.” She tells Mia that she just wanted Mia to feel what Nico was feeling — as though that’s any of Marizza’s business, and even if it were, it’s still a dick move to make Mia believe her only parent is dead. Mia screeches and jumps her. While they’re fighting, Pilar tries to come in, and Feli blocks the door. Pilar’s like, “I just wanna do gym stuff!” Sadly for Pilar, the classrooms at this school are only available at the whims of the main characters.
Lockers. Guido asks Tomás why he’s been so emo, but Tomás evades him as usual. The next locker over, Nico tells Manuel he’s going to go to the clinic and check on his dad. Guido and Tomás decide to get their bullying on, Manuel defends Nico, and then Blas rocks up and tells them to go take it outside if they’re gonna fight. It’s kind of a pointless scene.
Pilar finds Joaquin and is all like, “Dude, I totally just saw Mia and Marizza fighting, let’s gossip!” Joaquin’s like, “Yeah, we’re fake dating buddies, not gossip buddies.” Are these two dating for real or not? It’s so hard to tell. She’s like, “Didn’t you used to date them both?” and he’s like, “Yeah, good times.” Pilar scrams and then Tomás comes up to Joaquin and tries to back out of the drug trade. Joaquin’s like, “One does not simply stop selling drugs.” Tomás is sadface.
Gloria stops Nico from leaving school, and he has to call his mom to get permission. Over at the clinic, Tatiana is visiting the Provenzas, and Mama P is cooing over her. She picks up the phone and tells Nico not to bother visiting; everything is fine and they don’t need Nico there anymore. In fact, it’s BETTER if he doesn’t show up at all! Tatiana’s like, “Dude, was that your son?” “I HAVE NO SON,” Mama Provenza bitters. Yikes! Okay, Reb Tevye.
Mia’s room. Mia’s in hysterics because Marizza totally wrecked her hair. “Why did you even go there, that girl is a sumo wrestler,” Feli says. Heh. Let’s not exaggerate, Feli. Vico comes in with a new edition of Pilar’s newspaper. Dang, she writes those fast. Pilar writes that Mia and Marizza were fighting over Joaquin — but too bad for them, he’s dating Pilar! “Over JOAQUIN?” Mia shrieks. She’s all like, “AS IF!” They wonder who could have possibly found out that Mia and Marizza were fighting, as though there wasn’t only one person who walked in on them. Vico says that Mia’s going to get in trouble for fighting, and right on cue, Gloria comes in and tells Mia Dunoff wants to see her. Mia tries to get out of it all, “Ay yo Gloria can I come later, I gotta give my dad your gift ;)” and Gloria’s like, “Have you met me, making students miserable trumps hitting on rich businessmen ANY DAY.” She tells them that Dunoff wants to suspend them. Whoa! Actual consequences!
Dunoff’s called Pilar in to ask her about the newspaper. He’s like, “So is it true that you’re banging Joaquin? 😀 :D” He’s all twitterpated, and asks Pilar about the fight between Mia and Marizza. “I don’t like to gossip,” Pilar says. HA! Oh, Pilar. Dunoff assures her that it’ll be a secret between father and daughter, and she’s like, “Okay, so I TOTALLY saw them beating each other up in the gym! It was crazy!” Dunoff immediately turns around and tells Mansilla and Blas. Heh. Way to keep it a secret, Dunoff. Blas wants to kick Manuel and Marizza out of the school for being violent, and says the fight was all Marizza’s fault. Do I like Blas a little for hating Marizza, or do I hate him for being a perv? Maybe a little of both. Mansilla’s like, “Hold up, I’M the dean here,” and says he’ll talk to them. Blas is not pleased.
Teachers’ lounge. Econ teacher is on the phone, trying to talk to Lulu. “This is the third message I’ve left,” he says. Ha! That’s embarrassing. He starts going through Mansilla’s bag like a weirdo, and finds a piece of paper that makes the music go all scare chord-y. Way to bring incriminating information to work, Mansilla.
Cafeteria. Nico is emoing at the table all like, “Daring to be different sucks.” Luna comes in and starts ranting about how she’s in the middle of the whole Marizza and Mia mess, and Nico snaps at her all, “Some people have REAL problems, Luna!” Luna actually gets mildly snippy and starts to leave, but Nico apologizes to her and they hug it out. “I’m an animal!” he wails into her shoulder. Oh my God, Nico, chill out. He wails that he has to leave Elite Way. Gasp!
Bizarrely, “Resistiré” starts to play at this point, and I was like, “Damn, that was a short episode.” But no, they’re just playing the music video for some reason. I forgot how weird this video was, like Marizza is twirling around while wearing clown makeup, and Pablo and Manuel are dressed like they’re not old enough to enlist in World War I.
But no, the episode’s not over yet. Mansilla finds Hilda just hanging around the school, moping. That’s just sad. She stands up to go and drops some pills and Mansilla’s like, “Oh, you’re hella old, are you taking medication?” She BSes that she’s perfectly healthy, and she doesn’t need any help, and she has a son and three grandchildren who are always visiting her and she’s PERFECTLY FINE. O! Kay! Mansilla, as ever, is suspicious.
Mia and Marizza wait for their parents to pick them up. Sonia and Papa C show up and start fighting again, some more. Sonia’s like, “Marizza is never wrong!” and Papa C snips that Marizza is a bad influence on Mia. He tells Dunoff that he accepts Mia’s suspension, but when she returns to school, he wants Marizza to be kicked out and Sonia to stop hanging around shoving her boobs in Dunoff’s face. Oh snap! Sonia’s like, “OFFENSE!” and tries to jump Papa C, while Dunoff is ineffective in the backgaround. And THAT’S the end of the episode.
