Rebelde Way 2×050: Curiouser and Curiouser

Episode 50! Only 129 episodes left! A HA HA HA please help me.

Previously on Rebelde Way: Sabrina and Manuel were about to make out! Manuel manages to get his dick under control at the last moment, and tells her that he just wants to be friends, and he’s sorry if she misunderstood. Sabrina’s like, “No, that’s the same thing I’m doing! I was hitting on you in a friendly way!” and Manuel’s like, “Oh, we cool then.” Oh, you guys are not cool.

Then Francisco rocks back up, and Sabrina calls him “Franci”, which really should be a dealbreaker. They go off together, and Manuel stares after them. Yikes.

Back in Dunoff’s office, Sonia is confronting Martavio over his multiple identities. Dunoff is also suddenly there, when he wasn’t before. Martavio BSes that it’s just a mix-up, as often happens with twins, and Sonia’s like, “Hmm, I don’t think so.” Martavio starts crying all over Dunoff about how Sonia’s always so mean to him, to which she snaps, “Whatever, Martin, Octavio, Luis, Juan, whatever your name is.” Hee! And isn’t it weird that nobody’s ever seen the brothers together? That makes even Dunoff suspicious, and Martavio has to bring out the big guns, i.e. start name-dropping Etchamendi and how he’ll just have to call him to get this all cleared up. Dunoff blusters that there’s no need to call Etchamendi, and if Martavio can just show up with his brother tomorrow, everything will be fine. Martavio’s like, “Fine, I will then!” even though he clearly can’t.

Hilda happily announces to Marizza that she’s moving back in. Marizza’s thrilled for about half a second, and then Hilda tells her that she gets to discipline Marizza now. Marizza’s like, “Actual consequences for my actions? Aw, hell no.” Lujan and Laura start to make fun of her, so Marizza changes the subject: what do they know about Pablo’s apartment? They’re like, “Nothing, and why do you care?” They all run off to do homework together, and Marcos stares after them, for some reason. What? Nothing in that conversation had anything to do with him. It’s not all about you, Marcos!

Martavio’s at his apartment with his friend/cousin/brother/uncle/hairdresser, trying to figure out what to do re: impersonating two people at once. Hairdresser Friend is like, “Yeah, you’re kinda fucked.” He points out that Marizza is doing perfectly well without Martavio, so maybe it’s time for him to just cut his losses and leave.

Marcos blows off class so he can do some of Lujan’s homework for her. He tells Fernanda it’s because he feels responsible for what happened to her, what with her shitty grades and all. Fernanda does not like this at all, and tries to needle Marcos that Lujan probably just blew off her homework because she’s so obsessed with her new boyfriend. Marcos is like, “Pfft, that was just a story. Lujan’s not capable of getting over me that fast.” Deflate that ego, Marcos.

Sonia finds out that Martavio’s canceled their meeting the next day, and she is not happy. Marizza runs up and tries to complain to her about Hilda making her clean her room, and Sonia’s like, “I’m literally incapable of saying no to you, so I had to make someone else do it.” Marizza is pissed and tries to go over to someone else’s house to escape doing chores, but everyone is busy. Marizza, just clean your room! You share it with like four other girls, you barely have any space to clean up!

Wait, is Marizza going to try to rent Pablo’s apartment just to avoid cleaning up her own room? Man, this show has a lot of flimsy plots, but that might be the flimsiest.

Sol runs up to Tomás in the cafeteria and tries to tell him about how she’s trying to be the cheer captain. Tomás blows her off and runs after Ana, which Sol is not happy about. Pilar sidles up and she’s like, “Gosh, it’s pretty weird how your boyfriend is always hanging around the cafeteria girl.” Oh, Pilar. Stirring shit again already? Sol blusters that Tomás probably just feels bad for Ana.

Two girls rock up to Pablo with a deposit for the apartment. They’re like, “We can’t wait to party in it!” and Pablo’s like, “Yeah, sure, whatever.” Pablo is going to have a rude awakening about what being a landlord is like. After they leave, Marizza runs up and asks about renting, but Pablo tells her he’s already rented it out. She offers to pay double, but Pablo says no, just to be a dick.

From her table, Sol tells Marizza and her friends that she’s calling a cheerleader practice. Since when is Sol the captain? Did I mishear, and they voted her in earlier, despite everyone hating her? WHO IS EVEN VOTING FOR HER? Oh my God, I have so many questions, and I just know I won’t get any answers. Anyway, Lujan says she can’t go, and Fernanda starts snarking on her bad grades. Marizza tries to help Lujan save face by saying Lujan’s going to be out with her super hot new boyfriend, and Fernanda’s like, “Why the fuck you lying.” She says Marcos told her Lujan doesn’t have a new boyfriend. “Marcos might know a lot about chemistry, but he doesn’t know anything about girls,” Marizza snaps. Luciano is totally real, and she’ll prove it! They’ll all hang out together at Pablo’s apartment tonight, and Fernanda’s invited! Oh my God, Marizza, what are you doing?

Lujan and Laura are promptly like, “Dude, what the hell?” Marizza tells them that if they find a fake boyfriend for Lujan, she’ll work on getting Pablo’s apartment, and everything will be fine! In total fairness, these kids meet up with randos from the Internet all the time. Lujan could just go on AIM and find some guy, and with this show’s track record, he’ll also randomly be really hot. Lujan points out that Marizza has band rehearsal today, and Marizza’s like, “Whatever, Erreway, whatever.”

Meanwhile, back in the cafeteria: “Guys, I have an amazing idea!” Tomás says. Oh, sweet Jesus. Not from Tomás, guys. Not from Tomás. Guido: “You’re going to cut your hair?” Hee. No, Ana’s eavesdropping has given Tomás an idea: Pablo has another literature test with Carmen coming up, and naturally he hasn’t done the reading, so they should have him hide a cassette so he can listen for the answers. Or something. I don’t know, I kind of tune out when Tomás talks. Tomás is all, “Ana is such a genius!” Over on the other side of the cafeteria, Pilar tells Sol that it really looks like Tomás is cheating on her with Ana. Sol’s like, “As if!”, but it clearly gets under her skin. Oh, Pilar, you just can’t stop, can you?

Hilda and Gloria tell Sonia that Martavio isn’t coming to their meeting. Martavio told Gloria that he’s sick, and Sonia’s like, “You dumbass, he’s LYING, that’s why he can’t come to this stupid meeting, because he’s a LYING CHILD MOLESTER WHO LIES!” Hilda and Gloria are like, “Yikes.”

Meanwhile, in some office somewhere. Dig that iMac! One of my friends in grammar school had one of those in orange, and I was so jealous. My family’s Dell was not nearly as cool.

Sabrina comes in and greets her dad, and tells him that she’s given it some thought, and she’s not sure he’ll like Erreway. Maybe it would be better if they were a trio. That one girl, Mia, doesn’t really contribute that much, so maybe they should get rid of her. Oh, Sabrina, you so evil. All this trouble for Manuel, though? Really?

Marizza catches up with the girls who rented Pablo’s apartment, and tells them that she heard they were looking for a good place to study. Wait, they were? Why did they even rent Pablo’s apartment, then? It specifically says it’s a good place to party. Whatever. Marizza tells them as much, saying it’s not a great place for peace and quiet. She offers them free tickets to a spa, in exchange for the apartment keys. The girls fork the keys over. I mean…it’s not like they’re going to get much studying done at a spa, either, but whatever.

Feli confronts Vico about pawning her bracelet, but Vico blows her off. Later, Feli and Rocco meet, re: Vico. He gets pissed off that Feli keeps floundering around about Vico and doesn’t have the guts to confront her. Vico told Feli she was leaving to meet a friend today, and Rocco’s like, “Okay, A) it’s way too late to meet anyone, and B) does she have any friends outside this school? She’s lying, duh.” He wants to stalk her, but Feli insists that she’s no good at stalking. Rocco should do it alone! Sure, that’ll be less creepy. But then as they’re about to leave, Rocco’s dad shows up and starts yelling at Rocco, and Feli has to go alone.

Marizza’s got the keys, but Lujan and Laura have made zero progress on finding a fake Luciano. Laura’s like, “Where are we even gonna meet a guy?” to which Marizza shrieks, “On the street, duh!” Duh! That’s the best place to meet people!

Diego’s at some chick’s house. She tries to make out with him, but he’s all distant. She whines at him that she doesn’t know why they’re dating. Huh. I was about to be all, “Diego, you fiend,” but then I remembered that he and Marizza agreed to just be fuckbuddies, so I don’t know what’s meant to be happening.

Erreway arrives at their meeting. Marizza’s like, “What the hell is Francisco doing here?” and he chirps that he’s their manager. I thought Diego was — oh, my God, whatever. Marizza susses out that he just wants to hit on Sabrina some more, and grumbles that she doesn’t like her. Pablo tells Marizza not to ruin this opportunity for them, while Manuel’s all, “Sabrina is all that is good and pure in the world!” Sabrina shows up and leads Francisco away by the hand, which seems to just confirm Manuel’s point for him. Marizza is still unhappy.

Sonia tells Andres that she went to Martavio’s house, and he had a whole serial killer wall dedicated to her and Marizza. And now he’s skipping out on their meeting! “Maybe he really did have something to do,” derps Andres. Then Maria Jesus rocks up and tries to tell Sonia that she’s taken over the cheerleading squad, but Sonia blows her off.

Sabrina’s dad tries to tell Erreway that he wants them as a trio. Marizza, bless her, speaks up first: “We’re a quartet.” Yeah, Sabrina’s dad! THERE MUST ALWAYS BE FOUR. Manuel and Pablo concur, and they walk out.

Lujan and Laura walk down the street, looking for a guy to pass off as Lujan’s boyfriend. “It’s not as simple as just finding some guy,” Lujan whines…right as they come up on a random teenage runaway. They’re like, “He’ll do!” and hustle him off.

Pilar, Belen, and Fernanda all complain about Sol being a cheer-tator. Sol rocks up and notes that they all stopped talking when they saw her, but they BS that they were talking about Lujan instead. Sol’s like, “Who cares about Lujan?” and asks Ana if she’s seen Feli. Ana hasn’t, and Sol tries to needle her, but Ana’s like, “Whatever.” That was pointless.

Tomás and Guido are…still talking about finding that janitor job, from Mama Guido, so they can impress those working-class girls. What? I thought we forgot all about that. Whatever. Guido’s all salty that they didn’t find a girl for Guido — find your own girlfriend, Guido, Jesus Christ — and whatever, who even cares.

Erreway’s all emo that they lost their chance for a record deal. Honestly, do they even need one, at this point? They’re selling out the biggest venues in the country without even dropping an album. Manuel thanks Marizza for standing up for Mia. “I think, deep down, you love her, a little,” he says. Aw! Marizza’s like, “I love nothing!” and hops out of the car, even though they’re miles from school or her house. Heh. After she leaves, Manuel’s like, “So, Pablo, you and Marizza, huh.” Pablo’s all, “I feel nothing!” Manuel says that they’ll find another producer; Sabrina’s dad isn’t the end of the world. “Speaking of Sabrina…we forgot Francisco!” HA!

Lola is emo that her invisible friend still hasn’t picked up her letter. NOBODY CARES, LOLA. Bianca feels bad for her and suggests that they do their homework together — not like, as friends or anything, just as classmates. Lola agrees.

Feli follows Vico to her house, but then she gets a call from Sol. Sol demands that Feli come back to school, and Feli doormats for her. She walks away from the house, completely missing Vico’s dad starting to grab her and yell at her. Rocco would never slack off on his stalking duties like that!

Marizza waltzes into Pablo’s apartment, and Lujan and Laura come by with their random hobo kid. Marizza’s like, “Where the hell did you find him?” On the street, Marizza, like you told them to! Fake Luciano is all threateny about how they better not be playing a trick on him, or it’s going to end — dramatic knife flip open — quite badly for them. Lujan is cowed by this, for some reason. Boarding school life has made her soft.

Feli comes back to school, and Sol whines at her that her life sooo hard and everyone hates her. She wants Feli to find out what Pilar, Belen, and Fernanda are plotting. Feli’s like, “Uh, I’m kind of already busy stalking someone else,” but she agrees to do it anyway, because she has no spine.

Fake Luciano is off taking a shower, and Marizza and Laura are expressing regret over grabbing some rando off the street. No kidding, guys. They’re like, “He was kind of weird, and also what was with pulling a knife on us?” Lujan’s like, “People from the street try to stab you all the time! It’s normal!” Then Fake Luciano comes out of the shower, and shocker of shockers, he’s hot. Fernanda arrives, and she’s all ready to call Lujan out for lying, then she sees Fake Luciano. She’s like, “What the fuck, how did Lujan land this guy.”

Pablo emos to Tomás and Guido about Sabrina’s dad wanting to turn Erreway into a trio. They’re like, “Uh, that’s too bad. Anyway, about getting those working-class girls to like us.” Before they can talk much, though, Carmen comes in and needles Pablo about finishing his reading. Naturally he hasn’t done it, so they go ahead with the plan to…hide a tape of the audiobook in his jacket? Oh no wait, I bet they got Ana to do the report for him and he’s just going to listen and repeat her essay. I got you, I got you. I’m picking up what they’re putting down!

Pilar and Belen meet up to complain about how annoying Sol is, and how she thinks she’s the queen of everything. They muse over going to Sonia or Maria Jesus about kicking her off the squad. Feli rolls up, and not at all subtly asks them what they think of Sol.

Laura and Marizza gush over how hot Fake Luciano is, and how Marcos is gonna plotz when he finds out. Lujan is less enthused. Anyway, they have to pay Fake Luciano twenty pesos for his acting, but can only come up with ten. They promise to pay him thirty pesos tomorrow, and he agrees, but takes Lujan’s “document” (her ID? I have no idea) as collateral.

Hours later, Rocco’s dad is finally done yelling at him. He chirps that he’d like to meet Rocco’s totally real girlfriend now. Rocco’s like, “Uh-oh.”

In the cafeteria, Fernanda tells Marcos that Lujan’s boyfriend is real. He was in Pablo’s apartment, and he was NAKED! Marcos is like, “IN PABLO’S APARTMENT?”, to which Pablo turns around and he’s like, “Say what?” Well, you did say your apartment was good for debauchery, Pablo. He’s not pleased to hear that Lujan’s in his apartment, and storms off to yell at Marizza.

Hairdresser Friend tells Martavio that he’s found him another job, so Martavio can just leave all these fake identity shenanigans behind. Martavio’s like, “But I love having a fake identity and stalking my daughter and freaking her mom out! Most fun I’ve had in years!” Hairdresser Friend is like, “You’re crazy,” and Martavio’s like, “Not at all!” except it is pretty crazy to go around stalking a daughter who doesn’t know you exist while pretending to be two people at once.

Sabrina comes by to apologize (“apologize”) to Manuel for her dad rejecting Erreway. Manuel’s like, “Whatever, it’s not a big deal,” but Sabrina’s like, “Noooo, it is such a big deal, and I’m SO SAD, you must hold me!” Oh, Sabrina. An excellent time for Mia to waltz in! She’s like, “I hope you can explain this!” and I bet Manuel’s dumb ass will find some way to make it worse than it is. God love him.

“A HA HA HA please help me.”

Hahahahaha thank you *so* much for sticking with this! I really enjoy reading your reviews.

Rewatching the show now years after it came out I see in a new light Mia really could do better. And Lujan. Honestly so could Marizza. I get there’s gotta be drama and it’s soapy and all but must all these guys be unfaithful all over the place to create it? Or act like such jerks? I’m sure something else could keep these couples apart. The show likes to portray Manuel as this deep caring guy (fights for the people!) but in a relationship he clearly shows repetitive douchey behavior — manhandling Mia, this I’m-superior-behavior as if she’s not caring to her buddies in her own way, pressuring her to have sex (but not breaking up if that’s what he really wants to do it with someone else).

Have you already watched the entire season 2 or are you watching it for first time?

Haha, thank you! I am committed to finishing this show, the schedule just absolutely sneaks up on me sometimes D:

You nailed everything wrong with Manuel! I try to keep in mind that this is a telenovela (and a relatively old one, at that — so much of this behavior would not fly now!), but oh my God. I feel like Pablo is less consistently dickish, but his low points are low. Yikes.

This is my first time watching! I’ve seen parts of it, and I know some things that are going to happen, but not everything.

“and Marcos stares after them, for some reason.”
I think he was looking at them because they talked about how Lujan had to do a lot of homeworks (I think it was biology and something else) and he wanted to help, since he´s a really sweet guy (aaaand he loveeeees her) when he´s not being a douchebag and a stalker, since, if I remember right, this isn´t going to be the last time he´s listening in on other people´s conversations (though Lujan did it too once)

Yeah, I write most of the recaps as I watch the episode, so sometimes I miss things that are cleared up later 🙂

Lol, everyone at this school is eavesdropping all the time. It’s to be expected!
