Previously on Rebelde Way: Lujan has been taken into the cold, cold arms of the CPS system, which surely only exists to inconvenience Marizza and no other reason.
Marizza flips out and storms off, accusing Sonia of not doing anything to help Lujan. Before Sonia can chase after her, though, Papa B shows up. He’s like, “I know you’ve been supporting Pablo financially, and if you don’t stop, I’m going to set you up with a pair of cement boots.” Sonia’s like, “I wasn’t giving him money in the first place, so..whatever.” She cackles that all of his plans — spreading rumors about Sonia’s reputation, shutting down Papa C’s factory — have all failed miserably, and she’s not afraid of whatever impotent revenge he’s going to try next. Hee.
Meanwhile, Manuel asks Pablo to help him escape from the hospital. Pablo’s like, “This hospital sucks, but I still don’t really feel comfortable taking you away from an on-call medical team while you’re recovering from brain surgery.” Manuel’s like, “Oh, WELL THEN, I guess you’re not a REAL FRIEND.” He kicks Pablo out and tells him not to come back.
Rocco asks Feli where Vico is. Feli is shifty about it and Rocco realizes that Vico went to go see her father. He’s pissed and snaps that he’s done helping her — if she wants to live under her dad’s heel forever, that’s fine with him. Yikes.
Naturally, we then cut to Vico, getting stamped down under her dad’s heel. She tries to leave again, and he yells at her to stay again. He sends her out to get him more alcohol, but tells her not to run away. Vico, being a victim of the cycle of abuse, agrees.
Pablo finds Marizza and comforts her over Lujan. She’s like, “How did you find out?” and Pablo’s like, “Oh, Marcos is basically crying all over the school, it’s kind of obvious.”
Marcos isn’t quite crying all over school, but he is lying on his bed (which he’s clearly now way too big for) wibbling over Lujan. Francisco’s like, “Why don’t you just like…email her?” Marcos whines that Lujan must have chosen to go with the foster family because she hates everyone at Elite Way, including him, and she never wants to speak with them again. Francisco’s like, “Or…she legally had to go with them? You’ll never know unless you talk to her.” I hate that I have to side with Francisco here. Anyway, Marcos is convinced that Lujan won’t answer him unless his email is about something really dire, so…what, there’s no point in trying? Can you put some effort in, Marcos? He remembers at the last minute that he still has a Folder Full of Evidence that he found at Blas’s house about a million episodes ago, and decides to use it as a pretext to email Lujan.
Tomás comes back to school after his (read: Pablo’s) interview. He tries to tell Guido about it, but Guido says he can’t hang, since he’s studying and trying to prove his worth to Laura and all. Tomás is like, “Studying? You disgust me.” Heh.
Pablo comes up and Tomás tells him that the interview went awesome — look, they even gave him a bunch of gifts! He got new sneakers out of it! Tomás derps that getting free stuff is awesome and there are definitely no strings attached to this, but Pablo is suspicious.
Over at Casa Bustamante, Ines tells Papa B that a reporter is on the phone, wanting to ask Papa B about corruption in Buenos Aires. Papa B’s like, “I refuse to talk to reporters, especially about corruption!” That will definitely throw them off your scent! Then Javier comes in and is like, “Hello father of mine to whom I am so close, what say we have a talk, man-to-man.” He’s so weird. He wants to know why Papa B is so emo, and Papa B rants to him about how Pablo is slipping away from his iron grasp, blah blah emotional abuse blah. Javier says that it’s all Marizza’s fault that Pablo is ~rebelde~ now, and seethes that no matter how many outlandish and overly complex schemes he tries, he hasn’t been able to break them up. He’s like, “They can’t keep getting away with it!”
Ines comes back and tells Papa B that the reporter is threatening to talk to Pablo instead, if Papa B won’t give him an interview. Papa B says he’ll have to go to Elite Way and intimidate Pablo into not giving the interview. Ines says that Pablo might not be at school; a little bird told her that he’s working in a factory now. So…those factory guys and Papa B’s secretary are spying for Ines? Sure, whatever.
Mia emails her uncle Luca, telling him that she wants to live with him in Italy for a while. Feli comes in and sees her writing the email, and she scurries off to tell Vico about it. When she calls Vico’s house, though, Vico’s dad knocks the phone from her hand and yells at her. He’s like, “I will NEVER let you leave this house or communicate with the outside world ever again!!!” He starts getting up in her face, and Vico shoves him away from her. Her dad looks like he’s about to retaliate, but then Miranda shows up. He says that he has to take Vico back to school and hustles her out of there.
The next morning, Marizza checks her email and is upset to see that Lujan still hasn’t answered her email. I mean…it’s only been like three days since she was taken into the foster care system; let her breathe, Marizza. Marcos rocks up with the Folder Full of Evidence, and tells Marizza that if they tell Lujan they have it, she’ll surely answer them then! I mean, will she? The Blas plot is over! He got hit by a car, Regina George-style!
Lujan’s foster mom has taken her shopping and is being pretty generous. She offers to buy Lujan a computer(!) when she sees her eyeing one in a shop window. Lujan declines, and her foster mom says that “Mauro” is crazy about computers. Lujan’s like, “Who?” and her foster mom’s like, “Glad you asked, because we’re about to introduce another character!” Mauro is another kid that the family is fostering, who is a few years older than Lujan. I know that he’s going to be yet another romantic false lead to keep Lujan and Marcos apart for the next 10 episodes because I used to watch those “Lujan y Marcos historia completa” videos, but even if you didn’t, it’s pretty obvious.
Anyway, the foster mom says that Mauro is like Lujan: “More alone than a dog in this world.” Lujan looks perturbed, although I’m not sure if it’s because Foster Mom just compared her to a dog.
In the cafeteria, Feli is in a bad mood for…some reason that they don’t really explain, because no one cares about Feli that much. Mia and Lalo are trying to entreat her to eat something, and Mia says she’ll stay with Feli all day. “Until you leave for Italy,” Feli snipes. Mia acts like she’s being unfair, but then she ditches Feli like two minutes later, because Pablo comes in and says there’s a problem with Manuel. Heh. She’s not loyal.
Miranda tries to talk to Vico about her dad, but Vico’s like, “Everything is fine and my home life is completely normal. Also I have to go back there today or my dad will come here and possibly kill me. Everything is fine!” Miranda refuses to let her leave, so she tries to get Dunoff to override Miranda. Miranda lies and tells Dunoff that Vico’s actually been leaving school to go to see a boy. Dunoff revokes Vico’s permission to leave.
Over at Casa Colucci, Papa C is throwing a fit over not wanting to go to work. He says he needs to put all of his focus on finding Mama C, which like…doesn’t he have a private investigator looking for her? Is he just going to be sitting around waiting for that guy to call? Whatever. Sonia thinks he should just suck it up and go to work until the PI finds Mama C again. Their fight is interrupted, though, when Sonia storms outside and Hilda gives her a present that a stranger brought by for Mia. The stranger is obviously Mama C, and Papa C and Sonia are shook that she’s still in the city. I’M shook that Hilda is apparently staying with them, but they couldn’t spare another bedroom for Lujan.
Pablo tries to convince Mia to go to the hospital and help Manuel recover his memory some more. Mia is all emo that he hasn’t remembered her so far and their love is dead, so clearly there is no point in even visiting him anymore. Pablo’s like, “Damn, am I the only one who’s not giving up on our amnesiac friend?” Aw, Pablo. You really have turned out to be the best of these kids, although admittedly, that is not saying much at all.
Feli tells Marizza that Mia is planning to go to Italy. Marizza’s like, “What’s the problem, I hear Italy’s beautiful this time of year.” Feli elaborates that Mia is planning to live there, and Marizza’s like, “Oh. That is a pickle.”
Sonia goes to see Manuel and babbles to him nonstop about everything that’s been happening recently, there’s all that stuff with Mia and mysterious presents and Papa C and Papa B, oh and also Hilda went missing for five minutes there. Manuel gets mad and says that he doesn’t know her or any of the people that she’s talking about, so why should he care? He just wants to go outside and get some fresh air and escape the annoying chatter of Sonia everyone who’s visiting him.
Sonia says the only person who can give permission for Manuel to leave the hospital is his mother. And if they call his mom, then…somehow…Manuel will have to go back to Mexico? Even though he’s a student and has been residing in Argentina for over a year? Also, shouldn’t his mom already know what’s going on? Didn’t Manuel call her before the surgery? She never followed up like, “Hey, so, what happened after my son underwent a brain operation?”
WHATEVER. As ever, asking questions will only make my head hurt. Manuel says that he’d rather go back to live with his real family. Huh. So I guess he remembers them, then, and he conveniently has just forgotten everything that’s happened since this telenovela began. Good to know the last 300 episodes were all pointless!
Lujan meets Mauro and he is an asshole. Their foster mom runs a convenience store, so they both work there, I guess…in lieu of going to school? Okay, maybe Marizza had a point about the foster system. Anyway, Mauro sees Lujan sweeping in front of the store, and immediately starts yelling at her to step off his turf, and if she doesn’t, he’s going to fight her. Lujan’s ready to throw hands, but then their foster mom comes up and introduces them.
Belen comes to Mia’s room to tell her that her dad is here. Mia argues that she doesn’t want to see him. Belen argues back for a minute or so, I guess because they needed to give her something to do. After a couple of lines of dialogue, she leaves, and Papa C comes in. He tells Mia he has a present for her, and Mia flings it across the room and snaps that he can’t buy her love back. Papa C’s like, “Oh, that was actually from your mom, not me.” I feel like he should’ve led with that. Mia opens it and sees a locket inside. “It’s awful,” she snaps, tossing it aside. Despite that reaction, she’s still apparently more mad at Papa C than at her mother: she takes the gift as proof that Mama C didn’t willingly skip town again, and that Papa C drove her away and lied to Mia about it again.
Lalo tells Feli that they have go to their new house to pick up the key. Feli wants to wait until the weekend, but Lalo says that they have to go tomorrow. Feli is a little bothered by this, but she agrees. I am not convinced that anyone, anywhere cares about this subplot at all.
Marizza catches Papa C on his way out of the school and tells him that Mia is thinking of moving to Italy. “So like…you should probably do something about that. But not what you’re doing now, because clearly that’s not working.” Hee. Papa C sighs and says that he will, but right now, he has to go visit Manuel. “Can I come with you?” Marizza asks. “I mean, if you’re okay with that.” Aw! The series mostly focuses on Sonia’s relationship with Mia, but Marizza and Papa C’s father-daughter relationship is really sweet and underrated.
Marizza goes into the office to tell Michi that she’s leaving, and she sees a folder with Lujan’s name on it on the desk.
She then goes to the cafeteria, where Pablo is trying to convince Marcos to visit Manuel. Marcos is like, “I visited him once and he didn’t immediately recognize me, what more do you want me to do?” Man, for a show that’s all about being rebelde and fighting for what you believe in, these kids sure do give up on their friends easily. Anyway, Marizza chirps that she’s going to go visit Manuel, and if he gets all snippy and mean with her, she’ll just hit him. Pablo’s like, “Maybe don’t do that.” Marizza turns her attention to Marcos and says that she has a job for him.
Meanwhile, Pilar has shaved her armpits and is ready to be Tomás’s girlfriend again. Even though…they did not in any way resolve the issue of Tomás’s libido? Whatever. She tells him they can hook up later, and Tomás wails that he has to go to work.
Miranda tells Rocco that he agrees that something bad is going on at Vico’s house, and they should get her out of there. Rocco’s like, “Thank you! I’ve been saying!”
Vico rocks up and yells at Miranda for banning her from leaving the school. She says that when her father the inventor of the Toaster Strudel finds out about this, he’s going to come looking for her. “I hope so,” Miranda says calmly. Damn. I love him so much. Vico shrieks that he and Rocco are just making things worse, then storms off.
Marcos intercepts the courier who’s meant to deliver the envelope with Lujan’s name on it. He tells the guy that he’ll give him whatever he wants, if he lets Marcos borrow his clothes and do his job. The courier’s like, “Weird offer, but okay.” Then he takes Marcos’s sunglasses, headphones, and shoes. Hee. You really gotta learn to negotiate better, Marcos.
Marizza goes to the hospital and is once again offended that adults might, like, make decisions on behalf of children. She’s like, “How dare you consider sending Manuel back to live with his family!” She storms in to yell at Manuel to get his shit together. She recaps the first couple of episodes of the show for him, telling him that his father committed suicide and Manuel came all the way to Argentina, by himself, for revenge. He didn’t just lie around in a hospital bed crying! He was ready to orphan a 15-year-old girl for great justice! “THAT was my friend,” Marizza says.
Marcos delivers the envelope to the judge’s office, then stands around, apparently…hoping the secretary will leave so that he can look at it? Why didn’t he just open it on the way there? Jesus Christ, Marcos. Anyway, he literally stands over the secretary’s shoulder, trying to read it — subtle! — but she stands up and knocks her chair directly into him. Marcos starts having an asthma attack over getting caught. I’m mostly just impressed that they remembered that Marcos is supposed to have asthma.
Lalo tells Feli that something came up, so she has to go to pick up the house key alone. Feli asks Mia to come with her, since she doesn’t want to go “that shack” alone. Oh, so I see we actually haven’t resolved the whole “Feli isn’t ready to be poor” thing yet. Great. Mia reminds her that the shack is her new home. Feli wibbles until Mia gives in and agrees to go with her.
Rocco tries to talk to Vico, but she yells at him for not backing off about her relationship with her dad. “You have to get away from him,” Rocco tells her, and Vico snaps, “Actually, I have to get away from you.” Rocco: “Are you breaking up with me?” Vico snarks that he’s very observant and storms off.
Over at the Convenience Store Foster Home, Mauro and Lujan are running the shop together. Lujan gives a customer a free piece of candy, and Mauro flips his shit on her for giving away their product. They’re about to fight again, some more, when a little kid comes in. Mauro is suspicious that the kid is going to steal something, and Lujan tells him not to be so uptight. Aaaand then the kid steals something. Mauro hates Lujan even more for not confronting him when they had the chance. Fuck them kids, as Michael Jordan would say.
Back at the clinic, Papa C says that he called Manuel’s mom. “Why would you do that?” Marizza yells. Papa C’s like, “Because…that’s…her child?” Marizza’s like, “Stop saying words.” Then the doctor and Angeles come in and say that Manuel’s vitals are all wonky, like he’s had a shock or something. Marizza’s like, “Well, gosh, I don’t know what could have caused THAT.”
Tomás is having a grand old time at work, packing(?) shoes and patting himself on the back for a job well done. Heh. One of his coworkers comes over and says that someone is waiting for Tomás outside. Tomás goes to see who it is, and promptly gets stuffed into the back of a black car. Sucks to be Tomás!
