Previously on Rebelde Way: Rocco was nearly beaten to death in an act of homophobic violence. Let’s stare at his body for like a minute and then move on.
We cut over to Pablo and Martavio at Javier’s house. They’re trying to wrangle Marizza’s whereabouts from him, but Javier insists that she ran off and he promised not to tell anyone where she went. Pablo’s all ready to break his face, but Martavio says that they won’t get anywhere with Javier and drags Pablo back to the car. Pablo insists on waiting and watching the house for a few more minutes, but Marizza doesn’t appear, and they drive off.
Back at school, Vico is fretting over Rocco. Feli mocks her for being in love with a gay dude. Vico’s like, “Actually, he asked me if I liked him, which TOTALLY means he’s straight.” All the girls squeal over this. I’m confused. It’s not like Rocco said he liked HER. Whatever. Feli wants to focus on her own boy problems, which is that the cafeteria boy had the NERVE to insult HER, a student of Elite Way. She huffs that she can’t believe he dared and she’s going to go join a convent now. Hee.
Laura is hanging out in the lounge looking at some of her old baby photos, as you do. Marcos finds her and comments that their babies will be just as blonde and cute as baby Laura was. Laura’s like, “LOL at you thinking we’re going to have kids.” I mean, not just because that’s a weirdly forward thing to say as a teenager — I would have freaked out if a guy brought up our potential children at the age of 16 (although I also went to school with girls who started planning their weddings in freshman year; different strokes) — but also because God and everyone can tell that Marcos still likes Lujan. Marcos is like, “Unpossible!” but Laura breaks up with him, accurately pointing out that they have no chemistry and are incredibly boring together, whereas Marcos and Lujan at least have all their familial drama to entertain us. Laura tells him to get Lujan back instead of wasting his time (and mine, tbh) dicking around with Laura.
In Manuel’s room, he and Sabrina are hanging out. Manuel has a headache again, which I’m sure will come up later. Sabrina asks what he knows about Lujan and Blas, and Manuel’s like, “Blas is a creep and they hate each other?” He gives her a bit of the lowdown on the whole Blas/Mia/him triangle of yore. Hearing about Manuel’s relationship with Mia makes Sabrina all salty, and she makes out with him to distract him. They’re rolling around a bit and Manuel starts fantasizing that Sabrina is Mia because of course he does and then Francisco walks in. They’re all actually kind of endearingly awkward about it, and Sabrina bails to keep Francisco from getting sexiled.
Over at Javier’s house, Marizza appears. SIGH. She and Javier exposit that she just knew someone would come looking for her, so she had Javier lie for her. No self-awareness on how Marizza is lying to everyone about her whereabouts even though she considers lying a cardinal sin. Javier muses that one day Marizza will get tired of being such a dick to everyone around her, and Marizza chirps that that will never happen, because she has the best and most amazing partner in crime ever! Javier FINALLY says that he doesn’t deserve her praise, because he’s been crazy in love with her from the minute they met and also he’s been lying to her. Marizza’s like, “Say what?” And the scene ends there and we don’t get to see Javier actually confess because why would this show ever show us anything important like that?
Francisco and Mia enter the cafeteria together, gushing that Francisco got that Erica girl’s number and she TOTALLY likes him. Then in both versions of the video that I watched, it weirdly cuts to the end of the theme song and back, and then we skip ahead to the next day. I don’t know if that was a mistake or what. Anyway, I guess at some point Manuel saw Francisco and Mia together because the next day he’s all bitter and nosy about what they could be up to. Francisco tells Manuel that he has a date with that Erika chick, who he met through Mia, and Manuel’s all, “OH, and was Mia WITH anyone when she introduced you two?” Francisco’s like, “No? Well, me, technically.” Manuel gets all mad that he would DARE hang out with Mia and LAUGH with her. Francisco snaps at him to back off and storms out in his pajamas. Marcos is also like, “Bro, you need to chill.” Manuel rants at Marcos that he’s sick of all the spoiled rich kids at Elite Way — they don’t know how hard life is for him, someone who is already like two years older than all of them and is enrolled at this school for no reason!
Marizza has come back to school and is reunited with Lujan. They’re all clinging to each other after the trauma of being parted for like two days, as they are also wont to do. Marizza tells Lujan that Javier has confessed all his lies to her, and she cries that people are always lying to her. I’m torn between feeling bad for her and thinking that maybe people wouldn’t feel the need to lie to Marizza to impress her if she wasn’t so judgmental all the time.
Feli and Mia discuss how Vico’s run off to find Rocco, and then Feli’s mom shows up with the stylist — and Michi — in tow. Bless. Michi basically sits in and makes everyone really uncomfortable with how much she doesn’t hate herself and it’s amazing.
Javier comes by to see Pablo because I guess he’s on some kind of truth-telling kick now. He confesses that Marizza was with him the entire time, and Pablo’s like, “Fucking duh.” Javier asks Pablo to take care of Marizza since she probably hates Javier now, but he’s still in love with her and wants her to be safe, blah blah blah, and he thinks Pablo can help her. “The only thing I’m asking is for you not to leave her alone,” he says. An excellent time for Consuelo to walk in! Javier turns to look at her, and the inflatable chair that he’s sitting in audibly squeaks. HEE! Early 2000s furniture!
Sabrina tells Sol that she’s nosed around about Lujan and Blas, and found out that they have zero onda — in fact, they hate each other. Sol is all twitterpated to hear it and runs off to go ask Blas out, ditching Fernanda. Fernanda asks if Sabrina wants to hang out, and Sabrina literally laughs in her face and says no. Heh.
Papa C comes to school and asks Mia to hang out. She’s snippy with him and blows him off. Then he asks Manuel to hang out, and Manuel is also snippy with him and blows him off. Maybe Mia and Manuel really are meant to be. Manuel says that he has a headache, but he’s sure it’s nothing. I don’t know, guys, I think Manuel has a case of impending telenovela-neosis. Papa C leaves, but not before giving Manuel a list of companies that he knows are hiring. Manuel flips out at the thought that Papa C is giving him charity, and Papa C’s like, “Okay, I’m leaving before you break something.” He runs into Sabrina on his way out, and she’s not pleased that A) Papa C is hanging around and B) that Manuel is sick again. Kind of weirdly, she yells at him for having a headache again like…it’s his fault somehow?
Vico goes looking for Rocco. She runs into a guy on the street and asks him if he knows of any shady places where a bunch of guys might go to beat someone up. The guy’s like, “Oh, yeah, your friend is probably in one of the houses in Abandoned Warehouse Row right over there.” I swear to God. Vico finds Rocco and starts bawling all over his prone body. He comes to and Vico starts stroking his face and being all romantic over him, although he’s a little too out of it to notice. He doesn’t want to go to the police, but Vico makes him at least go to the hospital.
Feli’s mom finally settles on a dress for her. She tells Feli to like, live on air and lettuce between now and the party. Michi convinces Feli’s mom that letting Feli have some fruit or whatever would be good for her health and then she compliments Feli’s mom but in a very sarcastic way and this whole scene is really weird tonally, idk what I’m meant to think about any of this.
Sabrina fusses over Manuel and rants to him that Papa C needs to leave him alone. She finds the lists of Papa C’s business friends who are hiring and gets all mad that Manuel would take charity from Papa C — especially when he isn’t willing to take it from Sabrina’s dad. They almost fight, so Sabrina tries to distract him by offering to take him out. Manuel gets all mad that she’s offering to pay for him and then they fight again. Manuel kicks her out of his room.
Mia’s out to lunch with Papa C and Sonia, and she’s being all passive-aggressive and pissy with them. She goes off to call Feli, and Papa C and Sonia argue over their total inability to raise or control their children. Mia comes back and Sonia and Papa C gently broach the subject of their relationship with her. Mia passive-aggressives that she’s TOTALLY FINE with it. Sonia sighs that she’s relieved that Mia is okay with it, and she can’t wait to tell her everything. Mia snipes that she doesn’t to hear about her dad’s sex life. When Papa C steps away, she gets in Sonia’s face about how Marizza was right, and Sonia’s a lying skanky liar who lies. Papa C comes back and Mia pretends that Sonia was worried that her dress was kind of sl*tty, but Mia thinks she looks just fine! Sonia narrows her eyes.
The Arreguis have dinner together and Laura brings up that her mom totally knows who Lola’s birth mother is. Their parents go off to fight about it (Papa Arregui is all, “I thought we agreed to just lie to our children about that forever!”) and Lola’s like, “Wow, Laura, you’ve really grown a spine ever since we started being on this show.” Semi-hilariously, she asks why Laura is sticking up for her, and Laura’s like, “I’m not just doing it for you; I’m doing it for myself.” Yeah, don’t do a nice thing for her just because she’s your sister. Eventually Mama Arregui wins the fight, and she brings out a photo and gives it to Lola, saying that it’s her birth mom. The camera lingers on the photo and the music gets all weird like we’re supposed to recognize who it is? But I don’t? It actually looks kind of like Mama Arregui herself, honestly.
Oh, wait, maybe…the dark-haired girl in the picture is supposed to be Lola’s mom? Even though she looks like 12? I don’t know.
Guido comes back to school and is all trying to tell Tomás about how he and Andrea had gross inappropriate sex all weekend. Augustina comes up and interrupts them. She gushes that she wants to hang out with him today, and here’s her dad with a picnic basket! Guido’s all like, “OMG, I can’t believe my leeching off of my girlfriend and her rich dad has landed me in this situation.” I don’t care about any of this. Where is Pilar? 🙁
Martavio is on the office, ranting to Michi that he just doesn’t know what to do when he sees Marizza. She left school without his permission! Surely he should punish her! But should he? Would that be a bad parenting move? Do you punish children when they disobey you? How do man raise child? Michi’s like, “Just slap her.” Heh. Martavio clutches his pearls at the thought. Whatever. He doesn’t even know he’s in the same building as his daughter; that’s how shitty of a parent he is. Pablo comes in and tells Martavio that Marizza’s back and she’s in a bad mood. He says that he’ll talk to her, as he knows how to handle her better than Martavio. That’s probably true.
Sol sees Blas walk by and starts pretending to cry to get his attention. She wails that she’s just soooo bad at school and if she fails this class, her life will be OVER! Blas offers to help her with her homework and he’s being pretty nice to her. When they’re done studying, Sol kisses him in thanks. Blas is all, “No. Stop. Don’t” for like five seconds, then he gives in to his default setting of perving on teenage girls and starts kissing her back. Sol is going to need so much therapy when she gets older.
Lujan and Marizza are walking around outside. Lujan is bizarrely on Javier’s side now, and is trying to convince Marizza that sure, Javier lied, but he came clean eventually! Lujan, why you gotta do me like this? Lujan runs into get a jacket, and Pablo catches up to Marizza. He hustles her off to the art room for an impromptu rehearsal, and Marizza wibbles that she doesn’t feel like rehearsing because she’s so miserable. Pablo says that he knows that Javier lied to her about the hole in his head, and Marizza confesses that she feels betrayed and gullible. I mean…she definitely is insanely gullible, but Pablo at least has the tact not to say that (although he does sneak an “I told you so” in there). He sweetly tells her that he admires how she’s willing to believe in people even when it bites her, and they ~gaze~ at each other all twitterpated. Aw.
Sabrina comes back to school and makes up with Manuel — she hands him a VHS(!) and invites him to watch it together. I wonder what movie it is. Part 2 of the Titanic set, where all the interesting stuff happens? Anyway, they apologize to each other, and Manuel admits that he’s been weird and mildly psychotic lately. He should probably be giving this apology to Mia or Feli or like, any of the girls that he’s interacted with in the last 100 episodes, but it’s nice enough. They make out and Mia walks in. She stares at them all sadly, and they break apart to needle her. She points out that they’re in public, and needles them right back about getting a room — Manuel could hit up her father for more money to pay for a hotel! She flounces off and Manuel gets all mad and tries to chase after her to fight some more. Even Sabrina’s like, “Yikes.”
Michi makes Feli a salad and makes her eat it for the greater good of…not binge-eating her feelings anymore. I guess. I love Michi to death but she and Feli have this argument every episode and I’m bored.
At some point between the last scene and now, Lola has found out that her mom was a maid in the Arregui household. She abandoned Lola at a hospital, and since the Arreguis were the only point of contact for Lola’s birth mom, Lola was left with them. Lola cries that her mom was (horrors) working-class and she abandoned Lola, which means that Lola will probably grow up to be garbage just like her. I’m sorry, I didn’t realize we were suddenly transported back to the 1800s with the concept of good blood and the class system. Lola sniffles that she’ll never find out more about her birth mom, and Laura’s like, “Why, do you not want to keep looking? Because I’m really starting to have fun here.” Not in so many words, but it’s implied.
Vico finally comes back to school. She cries to Mia over Rocco’s condition, and Mia is really sweet and sympathetic because she is the best. She wants to get Dunoff involved, but Vico says she promised Rocco not to tell anyone. Mia, God bless, also remembers the events of season 1 and muses that this seems a lot like the work of the Society. They have to get to the bottom of this! Yessss, my kingdom for the return of Detective Mia.
Then Marizza rocks in. I forgot to mention this because it comes out of nowhere, but like at some point she got it in her head that Mia was trying to kick her out of the band for skipping rehearsal to run off with Javier. She confronts Mia over this, and Mia’s like, “The fuck are you talking about? You’re crazy just like your mom.” Marizza, of course, is like, “The only person who can talk shit about my mom is me!” and jumps Mia right there in the hallway.
