Previously on Rebelde Way: Marizza threw one (1) tantrum, and now Sonia is ready to give up custody of her forever. Let’s see how that works out for them, shall we?
Marizza jumps at the chance to live with Martavio — not because she really wants to, but just to spite Sonia. Martavio awkwardly lets Marizza hug him, and when she’s like, “Oooh, and I can move in with you, just to REALLY make you my official parent!”, he agrees. Sonia weeps like she didn’t see this coming.
Meanwhile, Marcos is apparently back on the Laura train — and doesn’t at all care that they have no chemistry anymore? — and is asking after the Lola situation. Laura tells him that they were almost in trouble because Pablo got his hands on Lola’s adoption papers — but everything’s fine, because Marizza totally confronted Pablo and got the papers back! There’s no way that Lola has them! Then Marizza rocks up and she’s like, “Bad news, I got dickmatized by Javier and Pablo made off with the adoption papers.” Laura has a meltdown right there in the hallway.
In the not-library, Sol is trying to put her plan to seduce Tomás over their homework assignment into motion, but he’s not biting. He’s so desperate to get away from her that he offers to do the whole assignment by himself. Aw! You guys, Tomás is willing to put in academic effort for Pilar! Their love is so real. Sol is not at all thrilled by this — partially because it throws a wrench in their plans, and partially because let’s be real, Tomás doing homework can’t possibly end well. Tomás tries to escape, but he walks right into Pilar, who pulls out a receipt and demands to know what it is. Ah, that must be the receipt for the chocolates Sol received. This is dumb. Tomás is clearly the kind of person who throws the receipt away immediately after buying something and then runs around frantically trying to calculate how much he’s spent on takeout when looking at his bank account later.
In the cafeteria, the rest of the class is plotting to get rid of Carmen after she…was generally sort of a dick earlier? She only punished Tomás, Sol, and Feli, but everyone’s acting like she offended them personally. I don’t know. Anyway, Javier is like, “You know what would definitely help? A strongly worded letter appealing to this school’s administration!” Pablo rightly thinks that’s dumb, but Marizza takes Javier’s side because of course she does. Bureaucracy it is! Pablo’s like, “Why do you even care? Carmen never bugs you.” “Well, she discriminates against attractive people, so you know, I’m going to be up eventually,” Javier says. All the kids laugh like he’s joking, but I’m sure he really thinks that.
Mia sees Francisco walk by, and she jumps up to follow him. She tries to get information out of him about whether or not he still likes Laura — he doesn’t — but mostly ends up giving him information about herself and Lucas. Oh, Mia, no. Outsmarted by Francisco? That’s embarrassing. She tells Francisco that nothing really happened between her and Lucas, and Francisco immediately runs off to tattle to Manuel.
Lujan tries to suggest to Marizza that she is maybe, possibly, being kind of impulsive with this whole “living with her dad who she’s known for like two months” thing. Marizza’s like, “Stop saying words.”
Martavio and Gloria discuss her embarrassing fuckup with Antonio. Inspirational music plays in the background as Martavio gives her an incredibly generic speech about how we all have problems, but we just have to buck up and talk them out!! Damn, Martavio, can you tailor that a little more to her situation? Like, we all have problems, but not all of us have gotten busted in a lie about having a kid that we just made up to impress our ex-boyfriends from twenty years ago. Anyway, Martavio gets distracted by the arrival of Papa C, whom he directs to Sonia so Papa C can calm her down.
Lola hides out in the cupboard under the stairs, bawling her eyes out over Pablo. She flashbacks to the good times — like, all three scenes that they actually had together — and angsts over whether or not to open the envelope. She takes so long to do it that for a minute I thought Laura was going to find her and drag this out even longer, but then she finally opens it. Praise Jesus! \o/
Papa C comforts Sonia over losing Marizza. He correctly calls her out for letting go of her responsibility for Marizza because she’s afraid of being rejected. An insightful comment from the man who somehow can’t tell that Manuel was emotionally abusing Mia! Nevertheless, he adds that he accepts Sonia as she is, and it’s pretty sweet. Still, he wasn’t wrong about how Sonia has never set any boundaries with Marizza and that’s why their relationship is a mess.
Mia reports to Feli that Francisco doesn’t like Laura anymore, but Feli is big mad because Michi told her that Francisco doesn’t like her either. Feli’s like, “I was a fool for thinking we could be like the couple in Amarte duele!” Feli, didn’t you see the end of that movie? I don’t even — whatever.
Anyway, class starts and Hilda asks them if they’ve ever seen a session of the Argentinian Chamber of Deputies on C-SPAN or whatever. All the kids are like “lol no”, except for Marcos, who’s all, “I love a good discussion of the issues facing our nation!” This whole thing is a segue into Hilda telling them about the assassination attempt on Lisandro de la Torre (which actually killed another senator instead). The concept of someone putting a hit out on a senator hits too close to home for Vico, who starts rethinking the whole “letting the mafia kill her dad” thing. She runs off to the bathroom, and Rocco follows her. Then Papa C comes in and says that he wants to talk to Marizza, which weirds Mia out.
After those interruptions, Hilda’s like, “Anyway, back to the English invasions of the Rio de la Plata.” All the kids are like, “What?” and Hilda insists that this is second-year history. Everyone is confused about the possibility of her going senile, but then it never gets brought up again in this episode.
Papa C takes Marizza to the art room, where he totally reams her out for being a disrespectful little shit, and it is amazing. He correctly tells her that she’s being rude to her mother, and the only reason Sonia hasn’t done anything about it is because she doesn’t know how to set boundaries with Marizza, and that’s why Marizza is such a brat. Tell it, Papa C! Marizza gets pissy and storms out because she can’t handle his truth.
Blas goes to have a meeting with Dunoff, and sucks up that he’s the earliest because he just cares so much about Dunoff’s administrative notes. Maybe you’re the earliest because your only competition is like two other teachers and also you don’t do anything, Blas. Anyway, Gloria comes in and tells Dunoff that the fourth-years have written a letter and are requesting a meeting with him. “Oh, well, I always appreciate a sternly worded letter,” Dunoff doesn’t say. He snaps at Gloria to stop wasting his time with silly things like students’ concerns and to go make him and Blas coffee. Wow, who could have seen this coming? I was so sure that Javier’s plan would work.
After class, Francisco tells Manuel that nothing happened between Mia and Lucas. Manuel huffs that Lucas is older than Mia, and older guys “won’t put up with everything I put up with.” EXCUSE ME?? You didn’t put up with SHIT, Manuel! You pressured Mia for like eighty episodes straight and then cheated on her when she wouldn’t put out! And then you assaulted her when she had the nerve to move on with her life! FLAMES, FLAMES ON THE SIDE OF MY FACE!!!
I’m running out of ways to say that I hate Manuel, you guys. He’s the worst!!! Francisco is also the worst for enabling him!!!
And after all that, Manuel leaves the room and crashes into some rando girl who very presciently is rocking quasi-emo hair circa 2007. He thinks she’s super cute and asks her to grab a drink with him. She accepts. Isn’t Manuel into Sabrina now? Isn’t getting his dick stroked by one tragic girl enough for him? UUUUUGGGH.
Rocco finds Vico in the bathroom, and she cries to him that maybe she shouldn’t let her dad get murdered by the mafia after all. Rocco is sympathetic and offers to help her out, again, some more.
In the cafeteria, Michi is ignoring her job duties in favor of telling Mia and Feli wacky stories about her ex-boyfriends. I love her. Feli brings up Francisco yet again, and she’s all like, “Why don’t you think we’ll work out? Why don’t you think we have a love like the kids from Amarte duele, minus the death?” Michi awkwards that she’s not SAYING Francisco and Feli won’t work out, she’s just saying that it’s very obvious that Francisco is using Feli to spy on Mia because he has no respect for women. Just kidding, not that last part. Just then, Francisco walks in, and Mia runs up to invite him on another double date with her and Lucas. Francisco enthusiastically accepts, and Mia and Feli rub it in Michi’s face that Francisco is TOTALLY into Feli.
Marizza rants to Javier about Papa C getting up in her business, and Javier’s like, “How very dare anyone get up in your business (besides me, of course).” Marizza coos to him that she loves when he strokes her ego. Javier brings up the issue of Marizza living with Martavio, and he makes the actually decent point that Martavio’s used to living alone, and he and Marizza will probably have completely different habits and lifestyles. Marizza’s like, “Stop saying words.” Then Lujan runs up and saves Marizza from having to actually think about her actions: she tells Marizza that Blas is in a meeting, so now is the time to go steal his book.
In the hallway, Pilar is crying to Belen and Fernanda that she thought Tomás was different. I don’t know why, because he was like halfway to cheating on her in Bariloche anyway, but whatever. Fernanda snipes that all boys are the same. Then Tomás rocks up and drags Pilar off. He takes her to the bakery/candy shop/whatever that the receipt was from, and asks the lady at the counter if she’s ever seen him. The cashier says that she never forgets a face, and she’s never seen Tomás before in her life. Pilar’s like, “Oh,” and Tomás breaks up with her because she doesn’t trust him. Pilar starts crying, and frankly, I’m a little hurt, too. My OTP!!! 🙁
Also, I mean…yeah, Pilar not trusting Tomás was gonna be a problem eventually, but also, he totally has gotten close to cheating on her in the past, so it’s not like it was THAT out there for her to presume. Let’s not get too self-righteous here, Tomás.
Back at school, Laura and Marcos ask Augustina where Lola is. Augustina refuses to tell, but that’s okay, because Lola suddenly shows up and launches herself at Laura. Marcos has to pull her off while Lola shrieks that Laura isn’t her sister. Dunoff hears all the yelling and shows up to drag Lola off to the office.
Rocco brings Vico’s dad to the school, and Vico tells him that the mafia is after him. Rocco offers to let Vico’s dad have that house they found in Bariloche, and he can hide out there for the rest of his life. Vico’s dad accepts and manages to stop emotionally abusing her long enough to have an emotional goodbye. After he leaves, Vico and Rocco hug and it’s honestly super cute. To cheer her up, Rocco busts out his guitar and they have a ~jam session. Vico understandably thinks that, what with him saving him from her abusive dad once and for all and with that hug that went on for like three minutes, this is a semi-romantic situation. She kisses him, but Rocco pushes her away and runs off.
Laura talks Dunoff into letting her into the office to talk to Lola. She tries to convince Lola that her adoption doesn’t mean anything, and Lola’s like, “Wtf, our parents have always hated me, this explains so much.” She says she’s going to go live with their grandmother instead, and yells at Laura that she never wants to see her again. It’s actually pretty affecting, or maybe I’m just a Lola apologist. I can’t help it, I find her really sympathetic and bratty in a realistic way. Anyway, Dunoff comes to kick Laura out. He wants to know what their fight was about, and Lola announces that Laura slept with her boyfriend. Dunoff’s like, “EXCUSE?” I’m sure he’ll say such a thing has never happened in the history of Elite Way school, even though it happens all the damn time here.
Marizza leaves Blas’s apartment with Ricardo Fara’s book in hand, which we did not get to see her steal at all. Oh, show, your pacing is so bad.
Antonio find Blas in the Elite Way parking lot and invites him out to grab coffee and talk about Gloria behind her back.
Speaking of Gloria, she notes that Hilda gave her a form, but forgot to sign it. Are you getting that Hilda’s going senile? Are you picking up what they’re putting down? (Hilariously, the actress that actually plays Hilda is still alive — she’s 98 now! — and was perfectly cognizant as of 2015.) Then Javier comes in to throw his weight around and yell at Gloria that HOW VERY DARE Dunoff ignore their strongly worded letter!! He was so sure it would work!! Dunoff comes in and tells him to back off, and Javier’s like, “I don’t think my father, the inventor of corruption in Argentina and also the toaster strudel, would be very happy to hear about this.” Dunoff actually calls his bluff, and he’s like, “Fine, I’ll call your not-father and tell him that you think you’re close enough to be throwing his name around.” Javier sweatdrops and backs down. Hee. Foiled by Dunoff, that’s pretty embarrassing. Papa B calls and Dunoff doesn’t tattle on Javier to him, and Javier so grateful that he…kisses Dunoff on the cheek. What? After he leaves, Dunoff and Gloria muses over how dumb Javier is. HA! Nobody likes you, Javier!
He goes back to tell Pablo and Marizza about the failure of his plan. He’s like, “We should all just go talk to Dunoff instead!” Pablo also thinks that’s dumb, but Marizza takes Javier’s side again, some more. Then she sees Laura walking by in tears and runs off after her. Laura tells her about the Lola situation, and Marizza offers to talk to Lola. She’s all, “I also have family issues, so I know exactly what she’s going through!” I mean…kind of, but I want to disagree just on the principle of Marizza making it all about herself.
Vico finds Rocco being all emo on a bench. He acts really cagey and won’t tell her why he wouldn’t kiss her. She’s like, “Clearly you’re interested enough to be stalking me for the better part of 100 episodes, but you don’t want to make out?” She asks if it’s because he’s gay, and Rocco gets all mad at her for bringing it up again. Vico rightly calls him out for nosing his way into her life but refusing to tell her anything about his. She tells him that he has to talk sometime, and Rocco looks like he might be considering it.
Sol brags to Fernanda that Tomás is all hers now. Pilar comes in to the cafeteria, and Sol decides that it would be an excellent idea to mock her about her breakup. She’s all, “Wow, it’s so sad about you and Tomás. But it’s good you realized it was never going to work out sooner than later!” Pilar jumps her and starts trying to tear her hair out. Then Blas tries to stop them but not really, then Fernanda jumps in, then Michi and Mama D have to try to pull them all off each other. Mia and Feli walk in and cackle that Sol’s group is over. I mean…hasn’t it been? Hasn’t Pilar hated them for a while now? Whatever, I don’t even know anymore.
Martavio and Antonia come back from their coffee date, and they go to see Gloria. Antonio asks her, with his chin literally in the air the entire time, why she lied to him. Martavio’s like, “Yeah…I’m just gonna be leaving this room now.”
Marizza sneaks in through the office window to see Lola. She’s all like, “Yeah bro, I just found out that my dad’s not really my dad, so I feel you on this whole family thing.” It’s actually a long-ass speech that I’m not going to write out because nobody has time for that, but anyway, Marizza tells Lola that it’s rough, but Lola has people who cares about her — like Marizza and Laura. And Lola can either cut herself off from the world and become an angry bitter person, or she can open herself up and let people help her. I vote for becoming angry and bitter! It’s been working well for me so far! Anyway, I don’t know if Marizza realizes the total irony in what she’s saying to Lola, but after she’s done speechifying, she’s like, “Awkward,” and runs away.
Lujan FINALLY reads through Ricardo Fara’s book. She gets to a part and says, “No puede ser!” Hell yeah! Love a good “No puede ser”!
Marizza heads back into school after breaking into Dunoff’s office, and runs into Martavio. She’s all, “So when can I move in?” and Martavio’s like, “Uh…about that.” “You didn’t change your mind, did you?” Marizza asks. Wow, are you telling me that with a little more thought, he realized that having Marizza’s primary parent for the past 15 years give her up to live with him, a weirdo stalker with a one-room apartment, was a bad idea?
