Rebelde Way 2×024: In Vino Veritas

Man, how can this episode have so much drama, yet be so boring? I kept pausing it to watch ASMR videos.

Previously on Rebelde Way: Rocco seemed to be slowly getting over his edgier-than-thou attitude towards his classmates, and is becoming a pushy creep just like all the other boys in his class. Hooray for character development! He kissed Vico while she was sleeping, and she freaked out when she woke up, as you might if you saw someone with Rocco’s haircut leaning over you. So now she’s less than pleased, and Rocco’s like, “Yeah…well…I only kissed you for science, and I don’t even like you, so there!” Sure, Rocco. He yells that maybe she should just go back to Guido, and Vico’s like, “I don’t even like Guido, do you even listen?” No, Vico, no he does not.

Back at Pablo’s party — which I think is outside in the courtyard, but who the hell knows — Lola rants about Laura some more, about how she’s perfect and everyone likes her better than Lola. Then Francisco shows up and asks Lola to dance, per his agreement with Laura, and Lola is all twitterpated.

Andres tells Sonia that Papa C’s offered her a huge amount of money to leave the fashion campaign. Sonia’s like, “Hell no!” and rants to Andres about how this campaign will be her greatest revenge and how all the money in the world will never get rid of her, NEVER! She and Papa C are going to spend all their time together and work together and maybe even live together, and when they die, they’ll be buried side-by-side so she can annoy him in the afterlife. Andres is like, “So…you really have a huge crush on him, huh.” Heh.

Sonia gets all upset, and then Andres is like, “Whatever, he’ll never love you anyway.” He explains that Mama C was Papa C’s great love and Papa C will never get over her death. Sonia’s like, “Uh, but she’s not dead.” Andres is like, “What?” and Sonia’s like, “What?” She BSes that she just meant Mama C was still alive, like, spiritually, and Andres asks if Sonia’s ever been in love like that. Sonia’s like, “Well, there was this one guy, and actually we weren’t really dating, we just hooked up one night after he saved me from suicide in the desert somewhere.” Oh snap! Could she be talking about…Marizza’s real father? Dun dun dun!

For some reason, Vico decides to ask Mia’s advice about her imminent homelessness. I love Mia, but I would honestly not be surprised if she told Vico to just buy another house or something. Mia instead suggests that Vico go see her dad in person, which I’m sure won’t be in any way traumatic for Vico. They then change the subject to Feli and whatever her latest damage is. Neither of them know what they did to upset her, and they’re just kind of like, “Oh, well, bygones.”

Meanwhile, Manuel’s staring at Mia from across the room like the total weirdo that he is. “I’m staring at her angrily,” he tells Marcos. Marcos is like, “O…kay.” He suggests that Manuel might have misunderstood what he saw, and Manuel’s like, “Impossible! Misunderstandings never happen in telenovelas!”

By the way, why do they both suddenly have frosted tips this season? Did they make a pact together?

Sol finds Feli eating her feelings in the gym, and gives her another pep talk-cum-anti-Mia propaganda speech. Feli cries that she’s too fat to be pretty, and Sol’s like, “Look at the United States! There are tons of fat people there, and some of them are actors and models!” Damn, drag us, Sol. Then she tells Feli that a real friend wouldn’t let Feli’s self-esteem issues run rampant, but Mia does so because she wants to be the center of attention. I mean, is Sol actually on Feli’s side? Of course not. But I mean, she’s not wrong.

Pablo’s disappeared from the party. Marizza, newly re-dickmatized from their dance, freaks out about where he could possibly be. She blusters to Lujan and Laura that she needs to find Pablo RIGHT AWAY because he could be off kissing babies and winning votes at this very moment, in the middle of the night, so if they’ll excuse her she’ll be leaving now. “I don’t believe a word of that,” Lujan deadpans. Laura: “Me either.” Hee.

Dante’s been demoted to errand boy, and he gives Mia a rude-ass note. We don’t get to hear what it says, but Mia is SHOCKED and APPALLED by it. She thinks Blas wrote it and goes off on him, but then is forced to forgive him when she realizes that Manuel wrote it. You can be mad at both of them, Mia! They’re both terrible people! Manuel’s like, “You made me write this note when you hugged Blas!” and Mia’s like, “I AM NOT DATING HIM, OH MY GOD.” She tells Manuel that if she didn’t sleep with him, then she’s definitely not sleeping with anyone else. “Oh, how nice, did you get that from a telenovela?” Manuel snaps. Of course she did! Pay attention, Manuel! Anyway, as ever, he refuses to believe anything Mia’s saying and is a total dick to her. Mia slaps him, as she should.

Pablo drowns his sorrows in the cafeteria, thinking about how his rise to power has cost him his friends, and…actually, no, just his friends. Just Tomás, specifically. But hey, that’s a crushing blow when all you’re left with is Guido. Also, I like how Pablo’s only an alcoholic when it suits the plot, and is totally normal and never drinks under stress in any other circumstances. Where does he even keep all this booze?

Marizza finds him and tries to haul him back to his room, but Pablo hangs all over her, sniffling that he misses his mom, and that he misses Marizza. Marizza’s like, “Say what now?” Could it be that she and Pablo still like each other? It totally could.

At the party, Lola and Augustina sit down with their boyfriends to have a pissing match. Francisco gets real pedantic that he only promised to be Lola’s boyfriend for one night, and this is that night, so he won’t go out on a double date with her. Seriously, Francisco? I feel like Laura’s getting ripped off here. Anyway, Guido snarks on Francisco for dating a second year because he has no self-awareness whatsoever, and Augustina is smug when Lola BSes that they can’t go out together on Saturday. Francisco’s ready to peace out, but Lola snaps at him that he agreed to be her boyfriend for the entire night.

Tomás is being all emo over Ana, not that he actually takes the opportunity to be nice to her. Fernanda starts yelling at Ana for not waitressing hard enough, and Tomás is like, “Hmm, should I defend my friend? Eh, maybe not. I’ll just stand here.” A+ love interesting! He’ll make as good a boyfriend as Manuel.

Feli goes back to the party and starts hanging out with Sol, to Mia and Vico’s displeasure. They try to confront her, but she parrots back Sol’s lines about Mia not letting Feli have different opinions from her — which, again, isn’t entirely wrong, even if Sol’s saying it for bad reasons. Mia’s all, “I can’t help it if my opinions are always right!” Sol, meanwhile, goes waltzing off the look for Pablo, and is not happy to see him and Marizza together.

Marcos tells Lujan that he’s going to enter the show jumping competition, and Fernanda overhears. Why is she even hanging out with them? She gushes to Marcos that she jumps horses, too, and they start bonding. Lujan is not happy about this, at all.

Blas gets his manipulation on again, some more. He sits down to Mia and he’s all, “Was Manuel mean to you again 🙁 Doesn’t he get that we’re just friends 🙁 And I would never do anything to manipulate you 🙁 Because I’m such a good friend 🙂 And I’ve never done anything wrong in my entire life :)” Mia’s like, “OMG, Blas, you’re the best friend ever.” Oh, Mia.

Sol tattles to Guido that Marizza and Pablo are hanging out, and Guido runs in to kick Marizza out of the cafeteria. In his drunken state, Pablo confronts Guido about his embezzling of the campaign funds. Guido’s all, “It was for the greater good!” but Pablo is too emo to listen.

Fernanda tells Tomás they should get back together. “I just have a lot of complications in my head,” Tomás says, trying to let her down. Heh. I mean, that sounds about right. Fernanda sticks her tongue down his throat, and Tomás is like, “Nevermind, let’s go out again.” Heh. Poor dumb Tomás. Fernanda gives Belen a thumbs-up from across the room.

Sol tells Marizza to stay away from Pablo, and Marizza’s all, “I don’t like him, we are just obsessed with one another.” She tells Sol that if she wants to fight, she can name a time and place (HEE!), and Sol backs off real fast.

Then, randomly, Erreway gets up on the stage and performs “Tiempo.” Why would Marizza and Manuel agree to perform at what’s basically Pablo’s campaign rally? Isn’t Pablo too off his face to perform? Whatever. They lip-sync one song, as is their wont, and then go back to being mad at each other.

Over breakfast the next morning, Lujan says that it’s weird that Pablo’s drinking again. Is it? It’s not like he ever got any help for his issues or anything. Marizza is all defensive over running off to see Pablo last night. Lujan, as always, sides with Marizza (even though she was totally judging her for it yesterday). Laura correctly points out that if Lujan saw anyone hanging off of Marcos the way Marizza was Pablo, the fists would be out, but whatever, it’s not her business. Marizza gets all judgmental that Laura never sides with anyone, but her lecture’s cut short when Pablo rocks up and tries to talk to her. Marizza tells him that Sol’s forbidden her to talk to him.

Mia and Feli make up, to Sol’s chagrin. Man. She’s not much of a mastermind, is she? It’s kind of embarrassing when even Mia “Blas is a Good Person” Colucci can see through you.

Vico rolls up to Rocco, who is wearing one of the most heinous shirts I’ve ever seen on this show. And I mean, it has a lot of competition. She tries to talk to him again about why, exactly, he kissed her, but he blows her off and runs away. Feli and Mia are like, “Ooooh, do you like Weird Emo Boy?”

Meanwhile, Sol is pissed at Pablo for his shenanigans last night. Pablo’s all shocked, and says he doesn’t even remember crawling all over Marizza last night. That’s a little weird, because he was acting real shady when he asked to talk to her earlier. Anyway, he tries to bluster that he totally hates Marizza, and Sol scoffs at him. Sol remains smarter than most of the people on this show. Nevertheless, she agrees not to break up, so as to make us of his sweet, sweet connections.

Over in Manuel’s room, Marcos and Francisco are trying to wake Manuel up. Marcos starts shrieking, “Omg, it’s THE SOCIETY!” because Manuel’s got a big handprint on his shirt, and I am shocked that this show is acknowledging any of its past plotlines. Once Manuel is awake, Marcos and Francisco start needling him over what exactly happened last night. “I saw you dancing with a girl from fifth year,” Francisco says, all overawed. Manuel dated a fifth year last year, so I don’t see what the big deal is. But Manuel’s all emo over Mia, and he stomps out.

Absolutely no one in this school is in a good mood today: Dunoff is all salty over Papa B running roughshod over him to get recess extended, and Etchamendi’s being a dick, oh, and he has to find a new art teacher. Gloria sticks her boobs out and says that she’s found some candidates for the art teacher position, and did he notice that she said position? One of those candidates happens to be Octavio-Not-Martin Andrade, aka Martin with a new haircut. He BSes that he has an interview with Dunoff, and Gloria runs off to check, leaving Martin free to run around the school. Ooh! Do you think he might just happen to run into Marizza again?

Ana comes over to Tomás to help him with homework and lowkey ask him on a date. She asks if he wants to ~study~ with her, but then Fernanda waltzes in and she’s all, “Servant! Bring me orange juice!” Tomás gets all nervous being alone with Fernanda and runs away from her. Hee. Poor dumb Tomás. Fernanda tells Ana that she and Tomás are dating, and princesses don’t marry kitchen boys, so Ana better back off.

Sonia goes to visit Papa C and talk about the campaign. He’s like, “I will literally pay you to stay away from me,” and she’s like, “Nope!” It occurs to me that if Sonia were a dude, this whole thing would be much, much creepier. Papa C BSes that he has a new model — a better model! That doesn’t seem so far-fetched to me — it’s not like Sonia’s good at any aspect of her job — but Sonia’s like, “Who could possibly be better than me?” Papa C’s like, “Well, she’s younger for one,” and that gets Sonia’s attention. Heh. He totally has her number.

Marcos and Francisco hover around the library, scoping out the girl that Manuel was dancing with yesterday. At least, I think that’s who she is. None of the extras on this show are very distinctive. They tell her that Manuel thinks she’s super hot, but he’s too shy to confess to her. The girl’s all like, “OMG, Manuel likes me?!” Oh, honey. Raise your standards.

Sonia goes to Elite Way for…reasons, and naturally runs straight into Martin. He pretends not to know her, but of course manages to flatter his way into her good graces by telling her that he knows of her, because she’s soooo famous. It’s amazing that Sonia hasn’t gotten scammed more often in her life. Then Marizza rolls up, and is weirded out by how familiar Martin looks, and also him refusing to let go of her hand. Having accomplished his goal of…staring at Sonia and Marizza? I guess?…Martin goes off to his interview.

Blas invites Mia to go sailing with him, but she tells him she has to think about it. Yeah, I wouldn’t get on a boat with Blas, either. The chances of being dumped into the water wearing a cement overcoat are just too high. Vico and Feli roll up, and Vico says she’s gotten permission to go out, so she’s going to see her dad. Mia tells them about Blas’s invitation, and Feli’s like, “So you’ve thought about it, and you’re going to say no, because he’s a creep, right?” Hee! Mia wibbles at them that Blas is such a good friend and nobody understands him. Dammit, Mia! Vico rightly asks where the hell Blas got a boat from, anyway, and Mia’s like, “Stop saying words.”

I feel that, Feli.

Ana angstily cleans the bar, all sad over Fernanda and Tomás. Aw, Ana! Don’t cry over Tomás! At least cry over someone slightly smarter! Then she sits down and does his homework for him anyway. That girl doesn’t love herself.

Sonia tells Marizza that she’s going to continue with the campaign, just to keep pissing Papa C off. Marizza’s like, “Yeah…this obsession is starting to seem weird, even to me.” It’s also ringing far too uncomfortable a bell, and Marizza asks Sonia if she’s ever been in love. Sonia cottons that Marizza’s in love, possibly with her rich conflicted alcoholic classmate, but Marizza forces her to stay on topic. Sonia admits that she’s never really been in love, but there was this one guy once who saved her from committing suicide. I like how Sonia’s never once mentioned him before this season. Almost like they just made him up!

Vico goes to see her dad and his family. She calls him out for not calling her back, and Vico’s stepmom is forced to admit that she didn’t pass on the message. Not that it helps at all, because Vico’s dad is still like, “My wife has never done anything wrong ever!” They all fight, and Vico’s dad calls her a “classless pendeja” (dude! Who says that to their own kid!), and Vico storms off without telling him about her impending homelessness. Fair enough, as this exchange has not made me think he would be willing to help her out anyway.

Pablo rocks up to talk to Marizza, and tells her that he doesn’t care if Sol wants him to stay away from her. Marizza’s twitterpated for about half a second, but then Pablo starts blathering on about how last night was a mistake and he didn’t know what he was doing. So like, he definitely still doesn’t like Marizza, and they are never ever getting back together. Marizza’s like, “Well, that’s not what you said last night.” Pablo’s like, “What did I say?!” and Marizza realizes that he really doesn’t remember. Damn, Marizza, he went through like three bottles, of course he doesn’t remember. She tells him that he said he missed his mom. She’s about to tell him that he said he missed her, too, but then Sol busts in. She tells Pablo to choose right now: Sol or Marizza?

Mia and Feli comfort Vico over her garbage family. They’re like, “There, there, our parents are terrible, too.” They’re very well-meaning, telling her that she has them and the three of them can overcome anything, but they don’t quite grasp how Vico’s feeling. They try to hustle her off and force her to have fun, but on the way, Mia spies Manuel and that random fifth year girl by the vending machines. Not the vending machines!

The fifth year girl is trying to flirt with Manuel, saying there’s something she wants to do, but she just doesn’t know if she should do it. Manuel takes this as an opening for an inspirational speech, about how it’s not good to bottle things up inside, and you have to go for your dreams, man, and eventually the girl is like, “Oh my God, I mean I want to make out.” She grabs him and kisses him, and Mia is SHOCKED and APPALLED.
