Rebelde Way 1×078: Mail Drama

Hello everyone! My usual site for getting these episodes off of Youtube, Clipconverter, was being a butt (it was down for like three days straight?), so I had to use another site. As such, the screencaps are a little smaller than usual. Think of us as being on a diet!

Cold open of Luna overhearing that Manuel might only be with Mia for REVENGE. She’s shocked and appalled. Credits!

Opening monologue: Saying no to you might make me feel sad, but it’s important to do sometimes. Actually a good lesson, I think.

When we last left Marizza and Lujan, Marizza was embarrassing herself by calling Luca to thirst after him some more. Luckily Mia interrupts, by popping over the railing and asking them what they’re doing. She’s extra cute in this scene, but it’s so clearly a setup: why would Mia ever care what Marizza and Lujan are doing?

I choose to believe she’s developing a crush on Lujan and following her around the school. They’d be cute together!

Marizza pretends to have the wrong number, and Mia asks them where Luna is. Oh, that’s why she’s talking to them. I’m still not sure she would do that, since half the time they won’t even tell her anyway. Marizza and Lujan say they don’t know, and as Mia walks away, Marizza is reminded that her new crush is Mia’s uncle. Which is only another reason not to touch that with a 10-foot-pole, but instead it gives Marizza an idea.

In the basement, the Society votes on whether or not the watcher should be kicked out of school or not. They eventually vote for his innocence, but echo-voice at him not to make them regret it. Then the bell rings, and they’re like, “Time to go to class!” Heh. I wonder if they have study groups together. The camera lingers on the watcher as he takes off his hood, but conveniently blurs when his face comes into view.

Meanwhile, in the hallway, Marcos tries to ask Rodrigo to put him back in touch with the Society, but Rodrigo is pissed at him for fucking up in the laundry room. Marcos is on his own now! You’d think they’d be a little nicer to him, since his brother was Society royalty and all.

Nacho’s criminal older brother wants him to steal from some convenience store and Nacho’s all “But stealing is illegal 🙁 What would Pepa say :(” Criminal Older Brother is like, “Screw Pepa and the law!” Nacho distracts the guy at the store, and then lingers with his hand over the money for frickin’ EVER. I don’t support crime, but fucking grab it, Nacho! He finally commits to taking the money and runs. For some reason, though, he tells Criminal Older Brother that he didn’t manage to steal it. Correction, Nacho punks out like the lame excuse for a troubled youth that he is. CBO gets all abusive, and when Nacho cries that he wants to tell Pepa, CBO’s like, “No, we are meant to be thieves! REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE, SIMBA.” Nacho caves and says he knows somewhere else they can steal from.

Mia finds Luna and asks if she got anything out of Nico, re: Manuel and Luna’s like, “Nope, nothing, absolutely not.” I mean, in fairness, she only overheard them talking, so she’s not technically lying.

Tomás is all pissed that Guido is mad at him, and probably also that he punched him. He tries to jump Guido in the hallway, and Pablo has to break them up. He’s like, “You guys, don’t fight! We’re friends!” It’s a sad day when Pablo tries to use the power of friendship. Guido grudgingly apologizes and says he’s just stressed before hurrying off. Tomás and Pablo are suspicious.

Luca rocks into Papa C’s office to chat and Papa C’s like, “So when do you think you’re gonna be leaving? Tomorrow? Today, maybe?” Luca muses that he might be staying in Buenos Aires for a while: “I want to work and start a family!” Papa C’s like, WHAT. “You’ve never worked a day in your life!” Luca’s like, “How hard can business be? I mean, you do it.” Heeeee. He says he wants to settle down with Sonia, and Papa C points out that Luca met her like, yesterday. “This is just another one of your whims,” he says. Luca doesn’t like that AT ALL, and storms on out of there.

In the hallway, Manuel eyes a gathering of Tomás and some of the random Diegos. “One of them must be the third year watcher,” he says to Nico. Well, they can rule Tomás right out; he’s not smart enough for that. The watcher guy also didn’t have his fluffy hair. Then Luna shows up and hustles Nico off to nail him down about Manuel’s revenge. As usual, Nico makes an attempt towards actually keeping a secret, then Luna says she’ll just ask Mia about it, and he caves. He tells Luna that Manuel blames Papa C for Papa Aguirre’s death; being the apple of his eye, destroying Mia will destroy Papa C. Luna’s like, “But what about Mia’s feelings? She’s a person, you know.” THANK YOU, LUNA. “Don’t try to reason about it; it’s revenge,” Nico advises. Heh. Well, at least they’re self-aware. He says that he supports all of Manuel’s questionable decisions and Luna should too, since Manuel is also her friend. Luna agrees to keep it a secret. DAMMIT, LUNA.

Meanwhile, Marizza’s writing a love letter to Luca. “Is ‘placer‘ spelled with a ‘C’?” she asks Lujan. Hee. Lujan notes that it’s kind of an inappropriately sexy letter, and Marizza says she wants to show Luca she’s not a baby. You kind of are, Marizza! She can’t even drive in my country! Anyway, she sneaks out of school to send it to Mia’s house. When she gets back, she finds that the Society has left their calling card on her desk. “But you’re not a scholarship student,” Lujan observes. Uh-oh.

Peter picks up Marizza’s letter and gives it to Papa C. Papa C sees that it’s from “Spirito” and immediately flips out that it’s from Sonia, and she has NO SHAME, and will she go to NO LENGTHS to ensnare Luca? Only gold-diggers write letters! Anyway, there’s a bunch of back and forth over whether Papa C is going to read it. Of course he’s going to, why is that even a question.

Guido comes into the office and bribes Gloria with some perfume to call his mom and ask her to come to school. He keeps needling her all, “And you’re going to call me as soon as she gets here, right? RIGHT? RIGHT?” until Gloria’s like, “Go away, I hate children.”

Mia and Manuel discuss the note from the Society in the cafeteria. Pilar comes in looking for Luna (everyone’s looking for Luna in this episode), but Marizza aggressively shoos her off. Even Manuel, who’s up Marizza’s ass 24/7, is like “That was unnecessary.” Anyway, Marizza tells him that the note from the Society asked her to meet with them during dinner. Manuel notes that he saw a bunch of Pablo’s friends acting suspicious in the hall earlier: it was Tomás, Diego (whichever one), Guido, Sebastian, and…Fede? I think that’s what he says. They hatch a plan to send a copy of the note to all of them, and see who shows up. I’m assuming whichever one doesn’t show up is the watcher, as they’ll be rolling with the Society instead. They congratulate themselves on such an unclear plan, and Marizza tries to teach Manuel her handshake. It’s still stupid. Your girlfriend’s is better, Manuel!

rebelde84101

As predicted, Papa C opens Marizza’s letter. Whatever she’s written, it makes his eyebrows go WAY up. Hee.

rebelde94001

He reseals it and gives it back to Luca when he comes in, but Luca immediately sees that it’s been opened. Heh. Subterfuge isn’t Papa C’s strong suit. Peter takes the blame, and Luca tries to get Papa C to fire him, but Papa C’s like, “Back off, my valet is like my only friend.” After Luca leaves, he tells Peter that now he really has to break up Sonia and Luca: that letter proves that she’s capable of anything! So…did Marizza not sign her name? How is this supposed to help her get into Luca’s pants?

Tomás finds Manuel and Marizza’s copy of the Society’s card. Ten to one Tomás fucks up their plan with his own dumbness. Then Fernanda rocks up and says that Dunoff and Blas are both off-duty tonight, so they’re planning to have a party in the lounge. Do they just not have any adults supervising tonight? Or maybe they know Mansilla lets them do whatever they want, bar hitting on Lulu. Tomás says he can’t go, and Fernanda snaps, “If you don’t want to date me, just say so.” Tomás is like, “Well, actually…” and then he hears flames crackling in the background. “No, I definitely still do,” he says. HA!

Manuel walks into the hall and smacks right into Rodrigo. Rodrigo immediately leaps to threatening him. “I’ll break your face!” he says. Manuel somehow decides that it’s a good idea to ask Rodrigo for a favor, and asks if he can update him on Julieta. Rodrigo snaps that Julieta’s been home sick, on account of her ~broken heart. Jesus Christ, Julieta, it’s just Manuel. Manuel wants to go see her but Rodrigo’s like, “If you go near her, I’ll break your face! (Again, some more.)”

Papa Guido shows up to school, and tells Guido that Mama Guido didn’t want to see him. OOOH, Guido done fucked up real good. He doesn’t seem to realize it, though, because he tells his dad, “I don’t understand why Mom didn’t want to come.” Do you really not, Guido? Papa Guido asks why Guido called them there anyway, and Guido lies and says he just really wanted to see them. Papa Guido’s all pleased. Awwww 🙁

rebelde183501

Tomás forgets his note in the cafeteria, and Marcos stumbles across it. “Tomás is in the Society!” he gasps. HEE! I knew Tomás was gonna fuck it up! God love him and his predictability.

Nacho goes to see Pepa at the theater. She’s on the phone, shrieking, “No puede ser!” Oh, Pepa, on this show, it can always puede ser. She hangs up and snaps to Nacho that she was just talking to his school, where apparently he didn’t show up today! Man, Nacho didn’t know to forge a note? He’s going to be such a crap criminal. He can’t even play hooky properly. Anyway, Pepa tries to discipline Nacho for half a second, then he asks for more money and she forks it over. Jesus, Pepa.

Mia corners Luna and tells her that she saw Luna talking to Nico, ergo, she knows Luna has something. Luna’s like, “Yikes.” Time for a musical interlude! They play the video for “Amor de engaño,” which is supposed to be dramatic but mostly cracks me up every time they get to the “MY HEART IS BLEEDING” line. Back in the episode, Luna hedges that Manuel does love Mia, he just has…a thing…that’s getting in the way of his ability to be a good boyfriend. Mia starts crying that she’s not good enough and she must change herself to make Manuel love her more. Even Luna is like, “My God, love yourself.”

Mia tells Manuel about the party in the lounge, and he says he’ll be late. Luna overhears this and follows Manuel to the office, where he asks Gloria for Julieta’s address. Luna is suspicious.

We cut to the party, which has lots of loud music and what looks like underage drinking. There are no adults anywhere in the school to put a stop to this? Anyone? Mansilla?

rebelde191101

Feli and Vico come in, for I think the first time this episode. Hi, guys! Feli’s wondering where Augusto is, which…I mean, if you didn’t invite him, Feli, I don’t think he’s going to just roll up to a high school party. Then again, given his penchant for making sure Feli’s under his thumb at all times, he might. Vico rolls her eyes and they walk on. Bye, guys! Mia and Nico realize that Manuel and Luna, respectively, are both missing. Pablo whines that he could be having sex with Paula right now (we KNOW, Pablo), while Tomás tries to sneak out and follow the note. Marizza, too, pushes Lujan into dancing with some guy and runs off to meet with the Society.

Manuel goes to visit Julieta, and Luna follows him in a car that is definitely not hers. Where’d she get the ride from? Anyway, Julieta opens the door and immediately plants a kiss on Manuel. Even from a distance he doesn’t look too into it, but Luna’s shocked and appalled. Again.

Marizza waits in the laundry room. Not the laundry room! What kind of bizarre human sacrifice are they going to perform this time? Someone opens the door, and Marizza jumps out: “I caught you!…YOU?”

“I don’t support crime, but fucking grab it, Nacho! He finally commits to taking the money and runs. For some reason, though, he tells Criminal Older Brother that he didn’t manage to steal it.” He didn’t steal the money. There was no money in his hands.
