Rebelde Way 1×058: Four Weeks is a Lifetime

Opening monologue: Our friendship can overcome anything, because we’ll always be in each other’s hearts. No matter whaaat theeeey sayyyy…from this day on, now and foreeeever~*~ Anyway.

Cold open: Marizza leaves for Italy this very instant! Tears, credits, opening monologue. Let’s get this started.

Marizza and Sonia are crying all over each other, as Marizza is leaving for sure, and they can’t do anything to stop it. Dunoff’s like, “Ooh, let me come in and step inappropriately all over your grieving! Don’t worry about exams, you’re guaranteed not to miss any actual learning!” Even Sonia’s like, dude, NOT THE TIME. He offers to give Marizza some time to say goodbye to everyone, but she wails that she can’t do it. Camila Bordonaba gets to show off her acting skills in this scene, too, which is nice since she’s one of the more genuinely talented cast members. Good stuff.

Meanwhile, Pablo’s cutely wandering the halls looking for Marizza, as he has a present for her. Aw! Pablo’s gotten pretty smooth in the span of two episodes. He asks Luna where she is, and Luna notes the present. He scoffs that it’s not like, a GIFT, and he doesn’t LIKE her, because that would just be UNCOOL. Oh, Pablo.

Also in the hallway, Manuel pulls Mia aside and tells her to stay away from Blas. Manuel can’t pinpoint exactly why Mia should, but he doesn’t like Blas. Mia snips that she doesn’t like Julieta, but she doesn’t make Manuel stay away from her (she just cries over them in corners a lot!). Manuel’s like hold up, what’s wrong with Julieta? Mia may not like her, but she’s hardly a creep who spends all her time hitting on underage students. Mia says that Julieta’s a liar; she said she’d love Manuel forever and stand by him through anything, and Manuel realizes that’s exactly what Julieta wrote to him in her letter. He cottons on that Mia read it and flips out on her. Mia says that Julieta pretends to be innocent and in love with Manuel, but she was hella banging some guy in her class two years ago — the entire school knew about the relationship, funny how Manuel doesn’t. Sorry, does Julieta have to disclose her entire relationship history to Manuel? Manuel looks like this has gotten to him, but before he can say anything else, Mercedes rocks up and hustles Mia off. Bizarrely, Mia calls her “Mercedes”, but hasn’t put together the connection between the name and her dad’s girlfriend.

Classroom. Dunoff comes in and gathers the entire class to tell them that Marizza’s gone on vacation, like that requires some big announcement. Everyone’s all in shock, for some reason. Pablo and Lujan are emo over the loss of their lady love, and everyone else is like, “I can’t believe she didn’t say goodbye!” Guys? GUYS. She’s coming back after a month, chill out. Meanwhile, outside the school, Marizza hugs Pepa and Nacho while “Perder un amigo” plays in the background. Everyone cries. IT’S FOUR WEEKS, YOU GUYS.

Dunoff calls Joaquin into his office and is like, we gotta have a man-to-man talk, about manly stuff, like bribing you to date my daughter again. “I almost see you as a future son,” he tells Joaquin. I mean, Dunoff cheated on Mama D, so I guess that’s appropriate. Joaquin, as always, gets uncomfortable as he does when Dunoff makes his crush on him too obvious. He skedaddles on out of there, and Gloria comes in with some forms to sign. Dunoff is like, “Of course I’ll sign them! I love doing my job!”

rebelde17701

“I’m being a good principal AND a good dad, I am KILLING it today!”

Manuel finds Lujan sitting in the hallway, surrounded by homework. He remarks that she’s really studying hard for finals, and she tells him that she has to write an essay on respecting her elders for Blas. And by “elders”, he means himself. Blas is such a penis. Manuel tells Lujan that he suspects Blas is involved with the Society, and she’s like, “He’s a total dick, so it’s a possibility.” They change the subject to Marizza, and Manuel tells Lujan that Marizza’s strong, and she can survive going to Italy. IT’S FOUR WEEKS. I wanna live in this bizarro universe where a month takes forever, because July is almost over and I haven’t gotten shit done. Anyway, Lujan wonders if she should tell Dunoff about Blas and Manuel’s like, “No, we should handle him ourselves with some wacky hijinks thrown in.”

Cut to an overly long and slightly weird scene of Luisana Lopilato putting on lipstick. Vico rocks up to lord it over Mia that she’s gotten Joaquin to commit to her — she gives back all the stuff Mia gave her, and snipes that she doesn’t need to ride Mia’s coattails anymore. She tells Mia that she’s sick of being told that she’s Mia’s best project and okay, I can see how that would be irritating. “You’re still a child, and I’m becoming a woman,” she says. Ick. Mia’s all like, “I loved you! You were my brother, Anakin!” Nevertheless, she tells Vico that being a trophy girlfriend is hardly coming out on top, especially since it’s not going to make Vico happy anyway. Vico snaps that Mia’s just jealous that Vico has a boyfriend and storms off. This whole scene was filmed with Vico in the mirror and Mia in the foreground, which I guess they thought was going to look cool but mostly looks awkward.

rebelde50801

Lujan does the homework and turns it in to Blas, but he’s still a jerk. Manuel’s like, “Unlike Lujan, I haven’t forgotten how much I like violence. I know you’re with the Society and I will totally fight you.” Blas doesn’t know what Manuel’s talking about, re: the Society, but he’s always up for transgressing his boundaries with students, and that totally includes mindless fighting. They rumble a while until Mia comes in and pulls Blas off Manuel. Blas snaps that if Manuel thinks Blas is going to leave Elite Way, he’s wrong. Sadly, knowing his job security with Etchamendi, this is probably true. When will I be free of having to watch his creeper ways?

Over in the secondary characters’ subplot, Guido leads all the boys in dumping flour (or whatever it is) into the toilets, which causes them to clog and leak. ~REBELDE~

Mia helps Manuel back to her room. He’s all leaning on her and limping and shit, and his face is covered in cuts and bruises. I don’t think rolling around on the floor with Blas for two minutes would have left him THAT injured. Mia says she’ll use her makeup to cover up all his unsightly injuries, and asks if Julieta knows he’s been fighting. Unless Julieta’s psychic and somehow found out in the time between Mia breaking up the fight and walking Manuel to her room, probably not. Anyway, she asks if Manuel wishes Julieta was the one tending his wounds, and Manuel says no. Mia’s all twitterpated.

rebelde59701

Joaquin and Vico stroll around the school grounds, and Joaquin tells her that they should keep their relationship on the DL, on account of the Society. Didn’t Vico just say that a few episodes ago? Whatever. Vico, despite being the one to bring it up first, is all pissed that Joaquin won’t go public with her. She’s like, “But you’re going to protect me with your money and connections and shit, right?” and he’s like, “…no? Have you met me?” He decides she’s too high maintenance and breaks up with her. Well, this is awkward.

Manuel goes looking for Julieta and can’t find her at school. He asks two guys from her class about her, and they’re like, “She’s off with some guy. Sorry bro.”

Lounge. Everyone’s like, “We have to STUDY for EXAMS? This is an outrage!” Lujan in particular is flipping out because she can’t concentrate on her exams while Marizza is SUFFERING in Italy! Chill, Lujan, she’s on vacation! She’ll be back in four weeks! C H I L L. Marcos comes up and cutely offers to help Lujan study, and she’s all aflutter. Aw!

rebelde64801

Random Amanda rolls up to the boys and remarks that something smells rank as fuck, and they’re all like, aw yis, our prank worked! All the boys’ toilets have successfully been clogged and are making the whole school smell nasty. Gross to be sure, but will it really get finals canceled? It would’ve taken some basilisk murders for finals to be canceled at my high school. But I guess it works, because after some wacky hijinks, the school has to be shut down, finals are postponed, and everyone gets to go home while the toilets are fixed.

rebelde78501

These hijinks involved Blas tripping and falling into a pool of crap, and it was pretty glorious. Also, note that he’s wearing jeans with his suit, like he needed something else to make me judge him.

Joaquin finds Pilar sitting on some bench, and he tries to sweet talk her into getting back together with him. “I don’t have the right to pressure you,” he says, acting all contrite. Ick. Don’t do it, Pilar. She sniffles that he really hurt her feelings, but falls for it and takes him back. OH, PILAR.

Mia’s room. Mia and Feli sarcastically ask each other — in front of Vico — where Vico’s planning to go while the school’s closed, since her family hates her and everything. Oh, man. Vico’s awful in this episode, but they’re being so unnecessarily mean. Mia’s like, “Maybe she can stay with her boyfriend? OH WAIT, he got back together with Pilar! WHAT A SHOCKER.” They cackle while Vico storms out to save her dignity. Mia and Feli muse that they can use their day off to rehearse with the band. Just then, Augusto calls Feli and tells her he wants go out. Feli says she was planning to go to rehearsal, and he’s like, “No, your life revolves around me now.” Frickin’ Augusto.

Manuel’s still trying to find out where Julieta went. Finally some rando extra tells him that she went out with the ex-boyfriend Mia mentioned, named Rodrigo. Hey, I went to school with a guy named Rodrigo. He used to bring phones and iPods to school and sell them on the playground. He was kind of shady, in retrospect. But I digress. Manuel’s all pissed off and suspicious.

Pablo’s room. They’re all preparing to depart for their various homes, and Pablo sighs that he was thinking about Marizza. Guido immediately jumps on that: “OOOH, DO YOU LIKE HER?” Heh. Before Pablo can answer, though, Papa B comes in and is like, “Woo! Now you don’t have any excuse not to come to my shady club with me!” Not seeing any way out of it this time, Pablo goes.

Sonia’s all distraught over Marizza, so she goes to the doctor. He comes out of his office and tells Pepa that physically, Sonia’s completely fine. She’s just lost the will to live because her husband turned to the dark side and slaughtered younglings. Just kidding. Sonia just has to rest and try to chill out until Marizza comes back. In the background, some reporter guy perks his ears up.

rebelde93301

Shouldn’t he have a white coat or something? This doctor doesn’t seem entirely on the up-and-up.

Everyone departs school for their homes, even Manuel and Lujan. Blas gets all up in Lujan’s face about not having anywhere to go, and Marcos swoops in to rescue her. He says his Very Important Father has invited Lujan over to Casa Aguilar, and Blas is forced to let them go. Lujan is, once more, twitterpated.

Outside the school, Julieta’s waiting for Manuel. Mia runs into her and tries to throw her off, but Manuel finds Julieta anyway. She asks if he wants go grab a drink, and he’s like, “No! I don’t trust you anymore and I’m busy now and forever, BYE.” Julieta is confused by her boyfriend and his bizarre mood swings.

Mia and Feli head to the sad trailer for rehearsal, but Feli tells Mia that she can’t blow off Augusto. Marizza’s in Italy and Pablo’s off with his dad, and Mia is ALONE, so very alone. Manuel comes in and they very tensely tell each other that Blas and Julieta are looking for the other. Mia tells Manuel he can stay at Casa Colucci, since no one is there except Papa C and Peter. “And your dad’s girlfriend,” Manuel reminds her. Mia’s like, “UGH, don’t even MENTION her,” and their nice moment devolves into an argument over Mia’s pettiness about her dad’s relationship. Nico and Luna come in and break it up, and they tell Nico that Feli’s on a date with her controlling boyfriend and Pablo’s out with his controlling dad. Then Mercedes calls Mia and invites her to get their hair done together, and she’s like, “Well, no one’s here, so why not.” Nico is pissed, and oh good! Here’s Tatiana to make things even more awkward!

rebelde102601

She tells them that the club is going to be closed on Saturday, for reasons, so they’re all off the hook. She asks Nico out to the movies, since they have the day off now, and Luna’s like YIKES. Mia’s like, “Oh hey Luna, let’s go to the hairdresser’s together!” and everyone books it out of there to escape the awkward.

Meanwhile, Pablo’s walking down some street and reminiscing on the good times, i.e. making out with Marizza. His black-and-white montage set to “Dos segundos” (hee) is interrupted by Paula, who jaywalks right into him. She pretends to have hurt her ankle, and he helps her down the street. Don’t do it, Pablo! They end up at some tennis court — I guess this is Papa B’s country club? It’s not clear — and Paula starts putting the moves on him. She tells him that she’s studying law, and he says he’s still in high school, although he lies and says he’s in fifth year. Oh, Pablo. He’s not put off by their bizarre age gap, but he should be. She won’t tell him how old she is (“Don’t you know not to ask a lady that?”), but assures him that she’s younger than his mom. I guess that’s comforting? Wait, no it’s not. She smoothes that she likes younger men because they’re eager to please. In the background, Papa B’s like, “YESSS, GIVE IN TO THE DARK SIDE.”

rebelde121801

Marcos’s house. He and Lujan sit in his room, and she kinda disses him and tells him that his room is boring. Maybe he’s into the minimalist Ikea look, Lujan, did you ever think of that? I’m taking this a little personally because I can’t be fucked to paint my room, either. Anyway, she suggests that they paint his room together and then fall in love.

Having nowhere to go, and having shot down Mia’s invitation to Casa Colucci, Manuel is forced to return to school. Papa C finds him in the main hall, and invites him to dinner to meet Mercedes. Manuel’s like, “Your girlfriend’s name is Mercedes? Hmmm.” It’s a sad day when Manuel’s a better detective than Mia. He accepts, but is all embarrassed that he’ll be showing up without a date. Papa C’s like, “What happened with Julieta, last time I saw you guys you were mauling each other in the hallway. What’d you do wrong?” Heh. He so has Manuel’s number. Manuel says she went out with another guy, and Papa C’s like, “Did you even talk to her about it?” and Manuel’s like, “Well, no. Usually my fists do the talking.” Papa C’s like, “Well jeez why don’t you ASK her about it before breaking up with her, dingus.” Manuel’s like, omg, what a concept. He thanks Papa C and tells him that he doesn’t have to invite Manuel to dinner just because of Mia, and Papa C says he didn’t do it because of Mia. He did it because Manuel’s part of the family! Since when?

Office. Vico tries to get Gloria to let her leave, but Gloria snips that no one from Vico’s house has called to give permission, and Gloria’s already left them two messages. Way harsh! What is up with Vico’s family, anyway? Just then, Pilar rocks in and chirps to Vico that she and Joaquin are back together, and everything’s awesome! She notices Vico’s less than happy, and Vico quickly covers and says she’s upset that she has to stay at school. Pilar’s like, omg you can sleep over at my house! Joaquin will be there and this will no way end in disaster!

Manuel wanders through some park, and sees Mia and Luna waiting for the bus. I don’t believe Mia would ever take the bus anywhere, but whatever. Musical interlude time!

rebelde114601

To “Te soñé“, which imo is one of Erreway’s better songs, and the video is pretty cute.

When that’s over, Julieta’s somehow found Manuel in the park, because Buenos Aires is the smallest city ever. She wants to talk it out, and even though he literally JUST discussed this with Papa C, Manuel’s all like, “Get thee away from me, scarlet woman!” She says he should at least let her explain, and he grudgingly agrees to go with her.

Mercedes takes Mia and Luna to the hairdresser’s, but Luna’s all emo over Nico going out with Tatiana. Even though she told him multiple times that he could so as to not rock the boat with his family. And defended him to her friends when they pointed out that was a little fucked up. Come on, Luna. Anyway, she emos to Mia that Tatiana’s hair is so much nicer than hers. Mia takes that literally and decides all of Luna’s relationship problems will be fixed with hair extensions. Papa C texts Mia that they’re going to have dinner with Mercedes tonight, and Mia’s like, “And give me the most expensive extensions you have, and put it on my dad’s card!” Heh. Oh, Mia.

Manuel and Julieta go to some cafe. Not any of the cafes that they’ve been to before, though. Manuel’s all like, “I don’t care that you went out with your ex-boyfriend, I care that you didn’t tell me and get my approval. And also that you went out with him.” Julieta’s like, well first of all I don’t have to ASK you, and also how do you even know Rodrigo’s my ex? Manuel blows her question off, but I don’t think it’s wildly implausible that Manuel would’ve found out on his own. That’s just the nature of really small schools. But anyway, Manuel snipes that he doesn’t want her explanations. They can just break up and he can go back to having UST with Mia! Julieta tells him that she didn’t meet with Rodrigo because she wanted to get back with him, she saw him because of the Society. THAT gets Manuel’s attention. “I know a lot about them,” she tells Manuel. “YOU’RE ONE OF THEM,” Manuel says. Dun dun dun!
