Rebelde Way 1×095: Tell Me More (Like Does He Have a Car?)

Opening monologue: It’s easy for us to make mistakes, but we can also make things right again. It only takes a moment for our house of bizarre, Rebelde Way-themed cards to come tumbling down!

rebelde03501

We open with Marcos, who has just received a package from the Society. He is shocked and appalled! It’s a KKK outfit of his very own! “Why would they send you this?” Nico says. Marcos is like, “I’m not sure, but I think this means they want me to join!” Nico’s like, “Omg, maybe!” YOU GUYS. Manuel rocks in and is like, “Oh hey guys, I just got back from Franco’s, and no I haven’t been missing for an entire episode, what are you talking about?” Nico pulls a card out from the box, but Manuel snatches it away. The main character is back, and Nico’s days of being kind of important are over, son. The card tells Marcos that he’s meant to wear the outfit at his initiation ceremony. Manuel and Nico are all twitterpated that they’ll finally be able to ~attack~ the Society.

Pablo runs into Marizza, and she asks if he was with Paula. Pablo says he was, and Marizza bitters that everyone said he wouldn’t be stupid enough to get back together with her, but Marizza said he was, and Marizza was right, and she totally doesn’t still like him, SO THERE. You know, as missgoldielocks pointed out, it’s a little fucked up that Pablo slept with Paula only to tell her that he still doesn’t want to be with her. Personally, I read it as Paula knowing Pablo’s will of mind is not as strong as his will of penis and trying to pull him over that way, but it would have been less douchey for Pablo not to sleep with her again.

rebelde07401

Mia, meanwhile, is freaking out that Marizza revealed her absence to Papa C. Vico’s like, “Oh, and by the way, Feli wants to be a nun.” Mia’s like, “Hasn’t she thought about how this affects me? She’s COMPLETELY CRAZY! Oh, hi Feli.” Heh. Feli comes back and tells them about how she met a cute boy, and Mia and Vico are like, “So your hormones pulled you back from the brink of nunhood!” No, no, Francisco just made her want to be a nun even more. In fairness, he wasn’t that cute. Mia’s like, “But you would look so ugly in a habit.” Oh, Mia. I love that she thinks that’s helpful. She wants to know where Feli even got this idea in the first place, and Feli says Manuel put it in her head. When was that? Nevermind, I don’t care enough to go back and check. Mia storms off to go kick Manuel’s ass.

Back in Marizza’s room, she’s decided to spill about her boy problems to Lujan, of all people. Like, Lujan is a good friend when you need to beat someone up, but she’s still in the “I want to slap his hideous beautiful face” phase when it comes to boys. Although I should add that they’re clearly trying to make her more feminine as the show goes on. Exhibit A, this hair:

rebelde09801

Case in point, Lujan’s like, “Forget Pablo, tell me about the illegal car racing and the potential firey destruction of it all!” Just then, Pepa comes in shrieking that Marizza could have died from said illegal car racing, and she’s going to tell Sonia right now. Marizza convinces her not to with like, two seconds of feeble flattery. I’m assuming Pepa’s never had a genuine compliment in her life, because she falls for it. Some guy (“Damion”?) calls and asks to speak with Sonia, and Pepa tells him to leave a message. The guy is a total pushy jerk, but Pepa’s like, “Omg, his voice was so sexy.” Why doesn’t Pepa love herself?

On her way to go yell at Manuel, Mia runs into Marizza and they yell at each other for a bit, about how Mia should be grateful that Marizza saved her butt, except where she didn’t really, blah blah rivalry blah. Marizza needles Mia a bit about going out with Blas, and for some reason this upsets Mia enough to make her go back to her room? I don’t know. Anyway, at Casa Colucci, Papa C’s trying to lecture Luca on letting Marizza impersonate Mia, and Luca’s like, “This responsibility stuff is boring. I’m out.” Papa C frets over accusing Mia of underage drinking, and calls her to apologize. (Mercedes, as usual, is like, “Your teenage daughter is such a drag on our love life.”) He tells her that she’s not going to be punished this weekend, and maybe they and Mercedes can do something together. Mia chirps that she has other plans and hangs up on him.

The next day dawns to…the opening strains of “Sk8er Boi.” OH MY GOD. I think this is it. This is the greatest use of music to ever occur on this show. Papa Aguilar calls Marcos and tells him that they’re having a memorial for his dead brother, conveniently at the same time Marcos is meant to meet with the Society. So…the Society is meeting in broad daylight, then? I was under the impression they meant 11 at night, for maximum subterfuge. But I know planning isn’t anyone on this show’s strong suit. Marcos starts freaking out, but then Mia busts in and says she has to talk to Manuel. She flips out when she sees him in his underwear, like she hasn’t seen that a million times before. He doesn’t believe her when she says Feli wants to be a nun, and tells her to leave him alone. Mia is not pleased at all.

rebelde25501

In Marizza’s room, she’s all twitterpated over the car racing, and wants to drive a car now. Lujan somehow is the one that has to tell her how the pedals work? When in her homeless orphan life has Lujan ever driven a car? Just wondering. Anyway, Marizza wants to drive a real car, and they decide to steal Sonia’s car keys from Pepa. Sure, driving without a license worked out so well when Pablo tried it.

Mia tries to yell at Manuel again, but he sends Marcos to block her. Marcos BSes that Manuel and Luz are in the room breaking some furniture, which sends Mia running into Blas’s creepy, predatory arms. Nice going, Marcos. Mia plays with Blas’s shirt buttons (ICK!) and asks if he would do anything for her. “Anything,” Blas promises. (ICK ICK ICK!) She asks him to punish Manuel for having a girl in his room, but only for the evening. For half a second, Blas is like, “Whoa, that’s actually against the rules, I might actually have to do my job,” but then Mia bats her eyelashes and he’s like, “Nvm, whatever you say.”

In the lounge, Luna frets to Pilar that she doesn’t know what to do about Tomás and Nico. She says this while…playing Mario? Since when did this school have an arcade? They can barely afford books for their not-library. Nico rocks up and needles Luna about dating Tomás, in that tactless way he’s so good at. Luna snaps that Nico doesn’t want her to hang around with anyone she likes, and maybe she doesn’t want to hang around Nico! So there! Nico’s like, “Well, I was gonna tell you something important, but now I don’t want to!” Also so there!

rebelde34501

Blas goes storming into Manuel’s room, but of course Luz isn’t actually there. He snips that he knows Manuel is hiding something and stalks out. Marcos runs in and wails that his dad’s here to take him to the memorial. How can he be in two places at once? Manuel’s like, “I could go to the Society meeting in your place!” Marcos is like, “Whoa, did not see that coming!” Manuel’s already planned it out (of course he has) — Marcos will record his answers to the Society’s initiation questions, and Manuel will play them so they won’t hear his voice. Nothing can go wrong!

In the not-library, Guido and Pablo lament their girl troubles. Tomás, meanwhile, is all twitterpated over Luna. Heh. In fairness, Luna’s not as smart as Fernanda or even Paula, so dating her is probably a lot easier. Just then, Papa B rocks up, and says he has a surprise for Pablo. It’s a car, which Pablo is understandably wary about accepting. (Tomás, meanwhile, wails that he loves the car and starts kissing it. HEE! Never change, Tomás.) And bonus, Papa B also has a drivers’ license for him! Golly, I wonder if this will overlap in any way with Marizza trying to steal a car. Also, do you not have to pass a drivers’ test in Argentina? (Not that passing one makes anyone here a better driver…) Anyway, Pablo is not thrilled, and tells Tomás they won’t be driving it. Tomás is all pissy, but Pablo drags him off. The second they leave the frame, Lujan and Marizza roll in. I don’t feel that smug about calling it, because that was really obvious.

rebelde48101

Blas is all pissy with Mia for being wrong about Manuel and Luz, and he’s doubly suspicious that she only wanted Manuel’s punishment to last until tonight. “You’re still in love with him, aren’t you?” he asks. Duh, Blas. I don’t see you anywhere in the main credits. Mia tries to flirt with him until his penis forgives her, but then Nico runs up and drags her off. He tells her about breaking up with Tatiana (“Seriously?” Mia gasps. Aw! I love how invested she is!), and how Papa Tatiana probably won’t let them play at the club anymore. Maybe Papa Tatiana should have a talk with his daughter about hanging her hopes on boys she dated when she was 12. Mia suggests that Tatiana hasn’t told her dad yet, and they should go to the club anyway. Nico likes this idea and runs off to find Pablo and convince him to play. “Good luck!” Mia chirps after him. Aw! I must say, I really love watching her interact with the less popular characters.

rebelde50701

Papa C and Mercedes fight again, some more, and she suggests they move in together. It’s only a slightly better idea than getting married to fix a relationship problem.

Lujan’s like, “So we’re gonna steal Pablo’s car, huh?” Marizza’s like, “Duh, are you new?” It goes badly, as expected, and they end up stuck on the side of the road. They have no idea how to get out of this, so they just…run away and leave the car there. Smooth.

Mia and Vico are bemoaning Feli’s life decisions some more, when Luna comes in and tells them that she saw Feli with a modiste. Mia and Vico are all excited that Feli’s abandoning her nun dreams in favor of fashion, but no, the modiste is here to outfit her with a habit. Yikes, Mia was right: it’s not a good look for Feli. Also, “Boys” by Britney Spears is playing in the background. I can’t think of a less appropriate song for this moment. Is this show attempting dramatic irony?

rebelde55601

Manuel goes to the Society meeting and uses the recorder to play Marcos’s answers. It all goes swimmingly until the recorder fails, like we all knew it was going to. I dunno why Marcos didn’t just ditch his brother’s memorial. Who organizes a dead person’s memorial on a one day notice anyway? Anyway, they try to beat up Manuel, and he escapes through some hatch in the wall, which leads…outside? That’s convenient. Anyway, he runs into Mia, who’s gearing up to yell at him about Feli some more. Manuel sees some students (including Fernanda) walking around the courtyard, and what does he do to deflect suspicion? Honestly, at this point, no points for guessing “grabs Mia and makes out with her.”

rebelde56501

Vico sees Luna being emo in the cafeteria, and for some reason decides to sit down and rant about boys with her. Since when did they like each other? Blas comes in and glares at him, and Luna mutters that he creeps her out. Vico’s like, “Yeah, I don’t know why Mia lets him make out with her.” Luna’s like, “What?” and Vico’s like, “What?” Then Fernanda comes in and tells them she just saw Mia macking it with Manuel. Vico and Luna are understandably confused. You need a flowchart for all the relationships on this show. In the background, Blas seethes. And crushes his juice box in his hands. HEE!

rebelde58301

“How DARE Mia kiss someone appropriate for her age?”

Marizza and Lujan return to school. Luna wants to know where they were, and Marizza’s like, “We were walking! Totally walking, that is our preferred mode of transportation.” Pablo and Marizza exchange jabs, then Nico runs up and tells Pablo that he has to come back to the band. Pablo refuses, which is weird, because didn’t he leave because of Paula? She’s out of the picture now, so what is the deal? Anyway, Papa Tatiana rolls up, and Nico calls him “Mauricio.” Oh, so phone-Mauricio and Papa Tatiana are the same person! It would’ve been helpful if they had ever bothered to mention that before. Mauricio tells Nico they have to talk alone. Uh-oh.

Papa B calls Pablo and reams him out for crashing the car like five seconds after he got it. Pablo has no idea what he’s talking about, of course, and Lujan and Marizza skedaddle.

Meanwhile, Marcos comes back to school, and the Society jumps him and drags him off. Honestly, never send Manuel to do a job you could do yourself.
